I feel that the best individual singer in the last decade, is Rihanna. She is always on the new trends, sometimes starting them, and produces the best songs and the most pwerful, and emotion filled voice, and songs in the world. Now when i say individual i mean, no bands, as far as bands go this award is bestowed to the Nine, A.K.A. SLIPKNOT. Just look her songs up, and buy the albums, please give support to our girl, RIRI.

Ok, since you want a reply, I'll give it to you :)

just a warning though, you won't like it.
We've already had the discussion about how different our music tastes are :P

Personally, although Rihanna's songs, I will admit, are better than some of the rubbish that people listen to these days (I still can't understand the love for techno or trance or whatever the devil it's called), I wouldn't say she's the best individual singer. She has a great voice, yes, but she's not that distinctive, her voice is very similar to a lot of other female artists in similar genres. I don't see her 'changing and starting trends' although I don't follow her closely, so I wouldn't know the little minute details.
THAT SAID.
You clearly love her, and if you feel that her songs are the best, are powerful, and filled with emotion, then good! Glad you've found something to connect with. Just don't expect everyone to have something to say on the topic. Good luck finding other people who love Rihanna as much as you, so you can talk about the beautiful work and lyrics that she's given you.

Personally, one of the best singers in my opinion, is Jason Mraz. Even if you don't like his music, listen to some of his songs, that guy has an amazing voice, and a fairly distinctive style. His works range from slow, melodic and emotional, to upbeat, sing-along style fare. Love it.

Also, he is part of a band, but the lead singer from Muse has an amazing voice too. Very talented guy. I don't love all of Muse's stuff, but I'll admit that guy is fantastic.

Although I'm not as in love with Rihanna as you are, I do appreciate her style and her voice.

In regards to her style; she's trying to find a niche within the market to cut a wide and indelible swath within the music business. And, although she's made an impression that way, I still say (as I did with Christina Aguilera) to ler her voice do the job.

To me it is distinctive and stylish enough to hold it's own. Christina's breakout recording was 'Beautiful' and Rihanna has yet to have that one true recording that sets her apart from the rest. When that does happen she will blow up like Christina did a few years back.

'Umbrella' just put her on the map and now she needs that one song that will blow the other s away. It will happen, and soon.

And i feel that one song that will do that for Rihanna, is "Russian Roulette". And the thing about the top mudicians, i think Rihanna's becoming one through the outside. She's almost dead on on the new styles, and her voice, while needs the work only an experienced artist, some one of the caliber of a Bon Scott, or Ozzy Osbourne, or a Cory Taylor, and she can dominate for years to come.

If "Russian Roulette" is the song where she sings 'pull the trigger' then I agree. The way she sings that song is very haunting (in a good way). Usually a well-sung ballad is what does the trick for recording artist, which Ri has definitely become.

Her future is bright, no doubt.

Yes see this is what i'm looking for, someone who recognizes Rihanna's work for what it is, good music. She puts so much emotion into the song, you can feel it coming into you in waves.
