Basically it'll direct a high-pitched sound to attempt to disable rowdy crowds and the like. Something like this could cause permanent hearing loss/damage.

I wonder if it'll ever turn to domestic police use as a means of another non-lethal weapon.

Also, I wonder when they will develop those Alliance sonic rifles. Heh.
