BRINGITBACK

Hi guys

Its that time of year again...my Firefy-itis is flaring up.
Symptoms include frustration, sorrow and uncontrollable weeping.

It occured to me lately that the franchise has been injected with some new life in the form of short stories and comics.

To me, this means one of two things.

Joss has given up...swung open the doors and let all his secrets out of the basket..

Or

Joss is testing the waters to see if people still care.

My guess is, a bit of both.

So where to from here? What are our realistic options, expectations and hopes?

Here is a list below of what I believe is capable with some effort from Joss.

- Animated series... The budget goes down and the affordability goes up...the actors would all love to be involved.. and Joss has even greater control than before on how the show visually comes across. The DVD's would literally fly off the shelves, the scifi channel would be all over it like stink on a monkey..

- Regular comics... Can we expect one or two comics a year for the next 10 years? I sure hope not. I dont mind the comics at all...but I crave story telling that doesnt come in box form.

- Novels... This would be an interesting step and a great way to expand on the story post Serenity. Not many people know that after his original movies, George Lucas almost completely funded his Skywalker Ranch and second trilogy from Star Wars novels.

-Sequel... Unlikely. Hard to get funding. Hard to get the actors all under the one roof (not through desire...but through timing) and I think Joss has soured on the idea of it.

-TV series return...Even more unlikely...near-on impossible. All of the reasons above and more.

What do we all think? Can we get a consistent string of post-serenity stories?

Lets work with the facts...We know Serenity was suppose to be the finale of season 1...and that Joss had planned seven more seasons...so there is a bigger picture to be painted.

What I want is for someone to get in the same room as Joss Whedon and ask him a couple of very simple questions.

1. Joss, who have hundreds of thousands of fans around the world wondering what lies ahead for the firefly franchise. Have you given up on it? Does it Have a future?

2. Through what medium would you continue to deliver the franchise in?

What do we all think???

BIB,

I feel your pain. At this moment I don’t see a big thrust in FF hope happening. Now that’s not to say I’ve given up hope. It’s just to say that I am remaining patient and hoping that new information will circle about that Joss has new plans in the works.

I have targeted some new victims, I mean recruits to bring into the FF fold I hope. When working with new employees at my jobsite I always ask them what kind of movies or tv they like. If they answer SW or ST then my sinister little mind gets to work ( < insert evil chuckle) There are many browncoats out there that don’t even know that they’re browncoats yet. Who am I to deny them the opportunity to journey into the black?

I would really like to see the Sic/Fi channel put moneys away for future episodes of FF. I understand that many of our BDHs are working other projects now and many of those are successful, but wouldn’t it be wonderful if the ol’ gang got together for a mini-series or something? I do believe the ratings on that channel would hit the roof at that time.

Anyway, just some personal thoughts and opinions.

Z, out

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I've been saying for years that a mini-series on the Sci-Fi Channel (I still refuse to type that new name) would be the perfect fit for the cast, fans and Universal. However, the direction that channel has taken in the past couple of years does not foster much hope in that regard. They had the chance to pick up the show when it was canceled, and either they weren't interested or Joss didn't like the budget limitations they would have imposed.

I was never into comics like a lot of other geeks were, mainly because I came into science fiction at a fairly late age, seventeen as opposed to some of my friends who started in on comics and more juvenile SF in their pre-teen years. I have bought all the comics, along with the companion volumes and most everything else 'Verse related, but I would much rather have my BDHs in a live-action setting, whether for the big or small screen doesn't matter.

I still haven't given up hope either. I'm still holding.
