Coptic Christians slaughtered in Egypt as the world looks away

TWELVE Christian were murdered in Egypt. Two hundred and thirty-two people wounded. The death toll will surely rise as victims succumb to their injuries. And that's just in the past few days. In the same time period, more Christians were killed in Egypt at the hands of Muslims than people killed in Syria or in Libya as a result of protests, riots and resistance.

Two churches in Cairo were burned in recent days. Over the past few months church property has being gutted, vandalised and violated with graffiti. Churches have been blown up.

An entire community - the Christian community in the new Egypt - is under attack. And the world remains relatively silent. There has been no significant religious outcry, political redress or diplomatic pressure to stop the attacks. There has been almost no media coverage as Egypt's Muslims systematically, over the past few months, set about massacring Egypt's Christians.

The world is not only standing idly by, it is enabling the massacre. The US naively expects that a new era, begun in new Egypt, will ripple to the rest of the Islamic world. So in the midst of these monstrous mass murders in Egypt, the US has decided to send an extra $US1 billion to help the Egyptians ease the economic crisis that emerged as a result of the ousting of Hosni Mubarak on February 11. Muslims in Egypt are on the warpath - on the religious warpath - and the US is feeding them money.

DREAMTROVE

Suleiman is not a great friend to the US, he has been making overtures to Iran, but aside from that, this just isn't the kind of govt. that you want. You're stuck throwing more candy at the dictator to keep him on your side, and when you stop, or can't top the counter offer, he's your enemy. This happens time and again, and it seems we never learn. Meanwhile, all the while we have no say in local policy for whatever it is that we are bound to offer to try to win him back to our side.

That's what a ship is, you know - it's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs.

RIONAEIRE

Beir bua agus beannacht

Hi Raptor. Yeah this sounds like a really bad situation. People in America often don't understand that Christians in other countries are persecuted, its not just something from back in Niro's day, it still happens in some places today.

I agree DT that we can't force them to see things our way and behave in the new Egyptian government, all we can do is try to get them to stop that because it is absolutely not acceptable, just like killing a group of any people for their religeous beliefs is unacceptable. Sometimes when The People choose something new it is something that is undesirable. On one hand I believe that the Egyptian people should decide how their government runs, but on the other hand it is horrible when they choose to do this stuff. Isn't killing groups of people in large numbers because they believe differently classed as genocide? They may not have killed enough for it to count under UN rules, but still its scary stuff, especially for me since I'm a Christian so its scary to see it. But that doesn't mean I want to bury my head in the sand either, we have to see things and know the truth in this world.
