Which is why I always drink water with my pints. Well, now , anyways. Hangovers suck when you're older.

It's the reason I drink GatoRitas instead of regular margaritas. Keep hydrated, and you can drink 'em all summer long! :)

To be honest, I've been moving in that direction for quite some time. Per the video, 2 drinks ? Ha. That use to be the warm up act. Now ? Total light weight.

I'm a big moderation fan myself. I do have things to drink sometimes but I know my body very well and know how much is apropriate for me to have. I've never had a hangover but they sound miserable.

Well, I have a couple Coronas in my fridge from a 6-pack I bought in Spring of 2010, so I'm not exactly a heavy drinker.

After a certain age, you start REALLY feeling every drink. Last time I had a decent buzz, I still felt it two days later. No real need or desire to do that again!

Kinda makes me wish I liked pot, but I just never cared for it.

Biology is funny, isn't it? I never could handle beer. Never liked the taste, too much volume per ounce of alcohol. If I did manage to choke enough down to get a buzz I usually wound up throwing it up and inevitably had a hangover the next day. Now distilled beverages? Easy peasy. I have drunk a whole quart of 80 proof in an evening, the most recent time being last year at the one year anniversary party/reunion for my niece's passing. Other than forgetting to drink a big glass of water upon laying down it went flawlessly. I only had a mild headache in the morning. I attribute that to not drinking water at bedtime and being an old fart.

Rum, whiskey, bourbon, scotch. different tastes, but it's all the same to me and I have to drink a lot of it to get beyond buzzed. I still maintain that tequila is Spanish for turpentine. Vodka may as well pure grain for the taste it adds. Gin is very nice, but never straight up. Any sort of brandy is a nice bracer against the cold. Port is very soothing after a long day of talking, presentations or just gabbing with friends. Not a huge fan of wine, but that may be one part exposure and one part taste.

Tools and alcohol don't ever mix.

Imma Rum fella myself, and too cheap for Bacardi, which I think is pisswater anyway, not that Castillo is all that to write home about, and that Malibu shit in the white bottle lacks ANYTHING resembling potency, bleh.

Of course, with my work hours and dumbass RELIGIOUS rules, sometimes I have a hard time obtaining any - although the conversation between me and the clerk that one night was damn funny - if it was you manning the counter at 2:35am in the morning and some guy with a peg leg and an eye patch comes in demanding rum, wouldn't YOU make pirate jokes ?
Arrrrr!

For the record, apple juice works even better than water, just so ya know.

Good tip about the apple juice. Next time I tie one on I'll try it.

And if you like rum, try Cruzan black strap rum. It is STRONG mojo, but very good. Slightly more alcohol and tons more flavor than Bacardi. I also like Kraken, another black strap rum, but spiced.

There was a rum I picked up in Mexico some years ago that was the best I've ever had, bar none. It was over 100 proof (but not Bacardi 151), and damned if I can remember the name of it. It was a dark rum, I paid $4 for a liter of it, and it was so smooth you could sip it straight, even at room temp.

And that's coming from someone who really isn't a rum drinker.

Tequila is definitely an acquired taste, and it largely depends on the quality of the tequila. Jose Cuervo is straight tourist crap, Cuervo Gold is even worse. You want a silver tequila, to be sure. 1800 is passable if you're mixing it, but that's about as bottom-of the-barrel as I'll go - and that's just if I'm using it for margaritas or Mexican martinis. Patron is better, but I've had some $80-100 bottles of tequila that were exquisite.

And again, I'm not really much of a tequila drinker, since the mere SMELL of it generally makes me puke.

Last decent drunk I went on involved tequila and NO hangover. I was working on perfecting what I call GatoRitas as a "summer drink" - instead of margarita mix, I use Lemon-Lime-flavored Gatorade powdered mix, and mix it around 2.5-3 times stronger than it recommends on the Gatorade label. Mix in tequila and lime juice (fresh limes are best) and have it on the rocks or mix it with ice in the blender, have a little salt on the rim of the glass, and voila! I drank a fifth of tequila this way (I was using 1800 Silver), and had absolutely no hangover the next day. I was shocked. I felt fine.

From what I've see/read, most hangovers are caused by dehydration.

My solution is to drink as I wish, then before I go to bed, have an equal amount of water.

I may be up half the night using the bathroom, but I havn't had a hangover in 10 years.

Hmmm, that media is not available in my territory. I wonder why? They don't want Australians to know, maybe?

Seriously, I've always assumed that it was aboutn dehydration. I try to drink water imbetween drinks, but like kwicko, can't handle much these days without feeling it for days. I do enjoy a nice glass of shiraz in the evening, but no more benders for me.

Copious amounts of B6, prior to drinking, have shown to lessen the hangover effect.

Anecdotal story - A local brewer , trying to introduce his beer ( Marthasville Pale Ale ) to local area bars, would go out and pitch his brand to the managers. This stuff was pretty darn good, especially in comparison to the watered down mop squeeze which normally passes for 'beer' in most bars in the area. The "problem", was that for every establishment the brewer went, he'd end up having to sample a beer or two w/ the owner / manager, etc... After a night of sales calls to multiple establishments, most folks would be wiped out. But he figured that if he could shovel in enough b vitamin into his brew, he'd have far less of a hang over.

And as I personally sampled the stuff, I can honestly testify, it worked like a charm. Of course, as the beer got more and more in demand, corners were cut, and pretty soon, the kick ass beverage which started out, ended up a far inferior brew.

Pity

Oh I don't have any - but thing is, most if not all of our alcohol prohibitions (pun certainly intended!) are based in RELIGIOUS objections which date back to the fucking Temperance Movement, a vocal minority which at one time visited the disaster of prohibition on the masses, and in a social sense haven't learned a goddamn thing since...
(The "War on(some)Drugs" et.al.)

And I work overnights, mostly, so my shopping schedule isn't the same as your typical nine-to-fiver, which at times makes things that HAVE to be done "during normal business hours" a hassle, when YOUR "normal business hours" are the wee hours of the night/morning - but I digress.

And so, I can't buy my Rum from 2am to 7am WHATSOEVER, ANYWHERE, nor could, till very recently (and you bet your ASS some of the push behind this was me) I buy ANY alcohol, WHATSOEVER, on Sunday.
We recently managed to wrangle a license extension for some businesses allowing them to sell alcohol on sunday, which I still feel is offensive cause having to pay for the permit is IMHO still paying tribute to someone elses fucking RELIGIOUS objections, which I do not share.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_law#Michigan
See, it falls under Blue Laws, which are government laws enforcing the observation of specific moral or religious tenets upon the people as a whole, a form of religious intolerance I find in direct contravention to the First Amendment, and it's a reeaaaallly hot button issue with me, this is.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BerserkButton
Generationally so, in fact - as my ancestors were radically and extremely anti-prohibition, and anti-blue law as well, some of em STILL make moonshine, and STILL run it to "dry" counties, primarily for profit and entertainment yeah, but there's still that shadow of the bitter, bitter hatred of having "The Government" come down on you and ram someone elses moral and religious tenets, which you do not share, and in fact find downright offensive, down your throat on a pike of law.

Also, since you expressed interest, the concept of dealing with human weaknesses and vices in my theological beliefs is rather different than most - humans will be human, and attempting to deny or suppress that is a recipe for disaster, so in order to cope with a vice such as bloodlust or boozing, the concept is to, at times and in manners that it is safe to do so (off duty drinking, taking the sadism out via violent video games, etc) to overfeed the beast within, to take it beyond satisfaction in much the same fashion you would over-feed a dangerous animal to make it fat, lazy and easy to control.
The notion is to do pretty much that, and then shove it back down and cage it in ones consciousness where it's too weak and apathetic to affect ones decision making process, see ?

I am not sure which ones, but there's a few Hindi beliefs - those which follow the Asuras instead of the Devas, usually, which make use of similar concepts and practices, both those beliefs are uncommon even in India these days.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asura
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asura_%28Buddhism%29
The Asuras generally echo human vices and frailties, not the least of which is violence, yet are generally not themselves considered evil, or were not, till the black/white, dualistic thinking of other theologies began to influence them.

In short, drink yourself stupid in order to REMIND yourself why you don't DO that anymore.
As you get to be my age, one needs far fewer reminders, being that particular beast is fat, lazy, stupid and OLD... heheh.
Mostly I drink to take the edge off the pain, and that's at most a shot to shot and a half, mixed with whatever I have handy even if all I got is tapwater - which makes it grog in point of fact.

PS. You do *NOT* want to hear some of the alternative lyrics to that I might sing when drunk enough - got me busted for disorderly conduct/public lewdness one night, that did.

I kinda thought I was the only one using violent videogames for that kind of therapy!

Yes, it can be fun to play stuff like Grand Theft Auto and the like. I'm playing Red Dead Redemption right now, from the same company, and it feels like Grand Theft Cattle or some such. I have a tendency to show up on a "rescue" mission and end up just melee-killing EVERYONE, and thus no rescue, but it's still fun. Kinda creeps my wife out when I play these games, though...

Picked up their latest, L.A. Noire, but haven't started it yet. Still diddling around with "Undead Nightmare" at the moment.

I also vent by going shooting, working on longer distances just to try to work out my old eyes a bit. My buddies get a little weirded out because I usually whistle "Strangers in the Night" while I'm working a target, but it's all harmless fun.

I'll have to look for that vodka. I default to Stoli, just because I've been so disappointed by so many other vodkas, and Stoli is one that I can actually drink straight up. I had high hopes for Tito's Handmade Vodka, which is made here and supposed distilled something like 6 times, but it was a disappointment to me. I used to print their shirts for promotions and such, and they'd always drop a bottle on me when they picked up and paid - and I'd turn around and give it to my production crew.

I see what you mean Frem about finding ways to take care of your desires without it interfering with others.

And it does seem odd to not be allowed to sell liquer on Sun. after all one could just go to the grocery store and get beer on a Sun. And Taco House has half priced margueritas on Sun. :) I think that an adult who runs a liquor store is capable enough to decide whether to be open on Sun.

I think there is only one dry town in my state and it was made that way by the people voting on it, so if people want that they can. But I find alcohol prohabition in general to be foolish because what is the 20s known for? Drinking of course, plus bootlegging and speakeasies. In regard to other drugs I haven't come to the same view yet. But it is possible that I will get there, I'm open minded to the idea that someday I could feel that illegality is a waste of time. I'm not there yet though.

GTA: San Andreas - for preference, I wasn't that entertained by GTA IV, whoever thought it would be "fun" to be endlessly annoyed *in a game* by repeated cell-phone harrassment oughta be dragged out and shot.
That, and the person I *MOST* wanted to kill, from the first ten minutes, was Roman, which kind of put a damper on the whole storyline, it did.

Some days, I just go downtown and KILL EVERYBODY, it's amazingly cathartic - what, you got a PROBLEM with my driving ? (Cue: Minigun)
WHO WANTS SOME ?!
Yeeeeaaah.

As for bizarre musical dissonance, the one you don't wanna hear is Come Softly Darling - generally used as the theme for my Caldari Navy-Issue Raven class battleship, it's slow as hell and it's handling is best described as "fluffy", but with tremendous range and the ability to lob eight cruise missles a second at you, not like it matters much.

Unless you've actually faced one, though, pictures don't do justice to the bowel-clenching terror of THAT thing rolling up on you in the quiet depths of space.

Nope, and nope - I said anywhere, and meant it.
Till just very very recently, it was flat out ILLEGAL to sell ANY ALCOHOL, whatsoever, at any venue, whatsoever, on Sunday - and even now it requires a lot of expense and jumping through hoops to get the permit extension, so it's still all but impossible as most retailers don't bother.
You quite literally *couldn't* buy it, period, no one would sell it to you for fear of prosecution.

Another annoyance was when one of my friends had a car that finally gave up and died on Sunday, and the dealer WOULD NOT SELL one - he'd show it to us, set up the paperwork, but would not under any circumstances, even including downright bribery, actually conclude the sale.

Imagine if you had to set your alarm, get up at 3:30am, go to the store to buy something, and come back, because of someone elses religious objections - you wouldn't be too amused by that, would you ?
That's what it's like for me.
