Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Again with these politicians who don't seem to understand how Congress works, have a sense of perspective OR of common decency!
Quote:

Florida Rep. Allen West said Thursday he had apologized to Florida Rep. and Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz,

Speaking Thursday, Mr. West said, “I just apologized,” when asked by a Huffington Post reporter, according to a tape of the conversation. The apology comes as Mr. West went after his neighbor Wednesday, slamming Ms. Wasserman-Schultz in a email.

Saying Ms. Wasserman-Schultz is the “most vile, unprofessional, and despicable member” of the House, Mr. West wrote, “Look, Debbie, I understand that after I departed the House floor you directed your floor speech comments directly towards me. Let me make myself perfectly clear, you want a personal fight, I am happy to oblige.”

In his email, Mr. West said Ms. Wasserman-Schultz has proven “that you are not a Lady” and “shall not be afforded due respect from me!” He said he was alerting House leaders to her “heinous characterless behavior.”

“You are the most vile, unprofessional, and despicable member of the US House of Representatives,” the Florida Republican added.

The verbal assault comes as Ms. Wasserman-Schutlz went after Mr. West during a House floor debate, questioning whether the Republican congressman supports reducing spending in Medicare and Medicaid.

“Incredulously, the gentleman from Florida. who represents thousands of Medicare beneficiaries, as do I, is supportive of this plan that would increase costs for Medicare beneficiaries,” Ms. Wasserman-Schultz said.

The comment did not play well with Mr. West, who shot off an email to Ms. Wasserman-Schutlz, telling to “shut the heck up.”

“If you have something to say to me, stop being a coward and say it to my face, otherwise, shut the heck up. Focus on your own congressional district!” Mr. West wrote.

Ms. Wasserman-Schutlz’s office fired off a response, saying the Florida Democrat was simply pointing out Mr. West’s support for reducing Social Security spending.

“I don’t think that Congressman West is upset at the Congresswoman, but rather with the fact that she highlighted that he and other Republicans are once again trying to balance the budget on the backs of seniors, children and the middle class,” Ms. Wasserman-Schultz’s office said in a statement. “The truth hurts.”

As of last night, by the way, Wasserman-Schultz said she had received no apology in e-mail, phone or any other manner, nor had her office. Now he is saying he didn't apologize, wouldn't apologize, and is awaiting an apology from HER...?!?!
Quote:

Rep. Allen West dug in his heels after congressional Democrats called on him to apologize for a heated email he sent to the Democratic Party chairwoman, adamantly denying reports that he had already done so.

West claims he was in his right to send fellow Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz an email Tuesday calling her "vile" and "not a lady," in response to her criticism of him on the House floor.

"Don't poke me in the chest, that's the bottom line," he told Fox Business Network on Thursday, adding that an apology is "not happening."

His aides underscored that response following reports and audio tape that seemingly showed him backing off his original comments. In the tape, West could be heard telling a Huffington Post reporter: "I just apologized."

It's unclear what he was referring to -- a West aide immediately shot down claims that he had apologized, calling them "absolutely false." Wasserman Schultz likewise said she had not heard from West.

Both lawmakers claim they are now waiting for an apology from the other. West also tweeted Thursday: "U.S is in crisis & everyone wants to talk about congressional members not getting along,it's insulting to Americans to waste airtime on this."

West and Democratic groups are, meanwhile, trying to raise money off the incident, as the spat escalates.

Several female House Democrats penned a letter Wednesday to House Republican leaders calling on them to "disavow" West's comments. One lawmaker suggested the leadership take West out to the "woodshed" to set him straight.

"By any objective viewing of her floor speech, (Wasserman Schultz) was well within the rules of decorum for our chamber," they wrote. "Yet, Mr. West's response was completely out of order and an offensive personal attack with a clearly sexist tone."

The Congressional Black Caucus is expected to discuss the matter at an upcoming meeting. CBC Chairman Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, D-Mo., told Fox News he's going to have a talk with West -- the caucus' only Republican member.

But West stood by the email.

"I think it's important to stake my ground," West told Fox News on Tuesday. "It was about enough is enough, and it's my right to say that. She is the one elevating this."

The dispute started Tuesday on the House floor, where Schultz had said: "The gentleman from Florida, who represents thousands of Medicare beneficiaries, as do I, is supportive of this plan that would increase costs for Medicare beneficiaries. Unbelievable from a member from south Florida."

She was referring to a House bill to cut and cap spending in exchange for a debt-ceiling increase.

Taking offense, West afterward sent out his email, which said: "Look, Debbie, I understand that after I departed the House floor you directed your floor speech comments directly towards me. Let me make myself perfectly clear, you want a personal fight, I am happy to oblige. You are the most vile, unprofessional and despicable member of the US House of Representatives. If you have something to say to me, stop being a coward and say it to my face, otherwise, shut the heck up."

West also said her actions proved she is "not a Lady."

From her disagreeing with him on a matter of policy he gets all THIS? I would ask "what is this country coming to?", but we already know. This is just the most recent illustration of it.

Quite unprofessional behavior. I'm so glad, and my position is affirmed daily, that I'm not going into a fancy career like politics, because if I did then I'd have to be quite careful what I did and said, because they are supposed to behave. I hope that nothing I write, here or elsewhere, would ever be used against me when I open my establishment someday.

MINCINGBEAST

What I like about America is that all disagreements are inevitably moral crusades; rigid, ideological inflexibility is one of our strengths as a nation. For example, the Republican's willingness to shit upon the full faith and credit clause in order to maintain their purity is admirable.

America must return to its founding principles: we must have senators who get into fist fights in the senate, congressman and judges who challenge each other to duels. And everyone ought to yell more.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Allen West knows nothing about "honor".

Quote:

While serving in Taji, Iraq, West received information from an intelligence specialist about a reported plot to ambush him and his men. The alleged plot reportedly involved Yahya Jhodri Hamoodi, a civilian Iraqi police officer. West, who was not responsible for conducting interrogations in Iraq and had never conducted or witnessed one, had his men detain Hamoodi. In the process of detaining Mr. Hamoodi, soldiers testified that Mr. Hamoodi appeared to reach for his weapon and needed to be subdued. Hamoodi was beaten by four soldiers from the 220th Field Artillery Battalion on the head and body. West then fired his pistol near Hamoodi's head, after which Hamoodi provided West with names and information, which Hamoodi later described as "meaningless information induced by fear and pain." At least one of these suspects was arrested as a result, but no plans for attacks or weapons were found. West said "At the time I had to base my decision on the intelligence I received. It's possible that I was wrong about Mr. Hamoodi."

West was charged with violating articles 128 (assault) and 134 (general article) of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. During a hearing held as part of an Article 32 investigation in November 2003, West stated, "I know the method I used was not right, but I wanted to take care of my soldiers." The charges were ultimately referred to an Article 15 proceeding rather than court-martial, at which West was fined $5,000.

He's a thug and a scumbag. He should have gone to prison and been dishonorably discharged. Instead, he became a Republican tea-bagger and a hero to other scumbags like Rappy here.

Now he's blaming the military for his actions and attitude:

Quote:

Facing a barrage of criticism, Rep. Allen West (R-FL) remains defiant and says he won’t apologize to DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) for a disparaging email in which he called her “vile, unprofessional, and despicable” and “not a lady.” On Fox Business Network this morning, West said an apology is “not happening,” and then tried to blame his poor etiquette on the military. West, a veteran who was discharged from the Army for abusing an Iraqi, said “there are certain ways we talk in the military. I guess I haven’t learned the DC-insider talk.” As if basic civility is something only practiced inside the Beltway.

And now it turns out that West doesn't even live in the congressional district he represents; he in fact lives in Ms. Wasserman-Schultz's district!

thug and scumbag and not an officer and a gentleman. Is he a product of West Point?

No gentleman should ever do or say anything to a woman that he should have to apologize for later. If a gentleman should be accused of offending a woman, he should apologize immediately and sincerely, and not repeat that behavior.

Gawd, Mincing, I love having you around. Perspective is always helpful, and humorous perspective doubly so. What you wrote could easily have come out of Stephen Colbert's mouth, and that's one of the things I enjoy about his show.

Newold: Now in this case, I don't know if you're serious or playing Mincing's game. What you say is right on, but I don't know if, in THIS world, it's valid, y'know?

What everyone who's going after Wasserman-Shultz is missing in this is what PROMPTED his vile remarks. She spoke for 14 seconds, and here are the facts:
Quote:

She expressed astonishment that the "gentleman from South Florida" – she didn't mention his name – was supporting something that would hurt his constituents on Medicare. "Unbelievable for a member from South Florida."
That this simple sentence should bring about the vicious tirade he aimed at her is beyond comprehension to me. They probably have long-standing differences, but her saying she was astonished that "the gentleman" was supporting something that would hurt his constituents and she found it unbelievable IS a perfect example of how people speak in Congress, just as in Parliament and IN NO WAY justifies his assininity. Period.

It has nothing to do with Dems or Repubs, it has to do with the inability to utilize even the slightest bit of common decency.

In essence; she made a perfectly reasonable statement, he went off the deep end. He has no excuse whatsoever, and his ations were unconscionable. His refusal to apologize and having the gaul to expect HER to apologize is equally so. I don't care if he's a firebrand, he acted like a complete asshole.

Dead serious , hon. That is my opinion of him-- if he's a West Point grad, the school should hang its head in shame.

And that is how I feel about women, as people and individuals-- it's an idealized, naive attitude to take, I suppose; and needs a LITTLE modification in regards women as public individuals or officials; and I don't always live up to it, but it sure as Hell is what I aim for, every time, all the time.

It should be easy to determine if West is telling the turth, regarding Debbie Wasserman-Schultz's status as a "lady."

Does she wear a dress? Lady.

Does she wear make up? Not a lady.

Does she wear make up, and a dress? Absolutely not a lady.

I don't see what the controversy is about.
