America loves a winner!

Some tall buildings sway in Seattle, no reported damage.

* Toned down, it seems.

I just hope none of those mountains, especially Rainier , gets all giggy, and decides to mimic St. Helen's.

I didn't feel anything here, first I heard of it was on the news, apparently I'm too far south for it to have reached me here. My cousin's family lives up there.

Riona, partly, it depens on where you are in relation to the fault. You can be ten miles South, or West, of a 'quake and not feel a thing. You can be ten miles North (or East) and get shook all to hell. And it depends on the depth of the quake, which KIND of quake it is, etc. Sometimes people in a direct line on the fault don't feel a thing, while people who live further away on the same line get shook up. Depends on the geology, too, what's softer and what's harder. And of course depends a LOT on whether you're on fill or not, as we discovered in the Marina! Complex stuff, 'quakes.

Oh damn. It's like the wave, coming around a sports stadium. I was hoping I'd be wrong, but I figured I was right.

I was just in both Vancouver and Alaska. Also hoping people are doing okay.

Y'all on the west coast might want to brace yourselves. And me too, if we get one on the west coast it could mess up the fault systems in the Basin and Range interior.

Byte has a point about coming around the circle, Chile, NZ, Japan, Alaska, BC, looks like I'm next. Fortunately the ones in Alaska and Vancouver weren't too big or out of control. We'll just have to see what happens, we have one once a decade or so. 1992, 2001, we're do for one.

I don't look for stuff like that to happen, in my opinion Nature is too complex for us to understand or seriously predict, and will do what it will do. Maybe that's fatalism from living in CA my whole life, but it's how I see it. Kind of like all the "fruit loops" threat-level graphic; something might happen to SF, or it might not. It's not within my power to do anything about, so I'm not going to start worrying. I freely admit, however, that I wish Jim would quit working entirely, as his office is at the bottom of a five-or-so-story parking garage! I'm glad he's back to working only 3 days a week, hard as that is on us financially, maybe the odds of him being at home when something big enough to actually impact us are better now!
