Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

All week we've been demonstrating on the corners of the freeway exit to downtown between 4 and 6 pm. I missed Monday because my back was wrecked after the Saturday demonstration, but have been there every day since. The response has been amazing. All toll, I've seen two thumbs down, one finger, and an expensively-dressed middle-aged lady in a big fancy car trying to open her window (unsuccessfully) to holler "get a job".

On the other side, the honking, thumbs up, waving, V sign and fists in the air have been incredible. Just yesterday we had FOUR eighteen-wheelers, two Greyhound trucks, a Ryder truck, a school bus and an AMBULANCE honk and wave as they went by. It's very encouraging.

Yesterday I took a camp chair out--my back just can't handle two hours of standing. I'm wearing my back brace and taking my cane, but I'm still in a lot of pain by the time I get home. Damned if I'll give up tho'.

Apparently the demonstrations and general assemblies will continue every Saturday for the foreseeable future. Attendance at both has increased each week. As far as I can tell (and definitely at the daily commuter demonstrations), the majority are middle-class, above and below middle aged people. Most of them have jobs or are retired. So much for "hippies", "bums" and "felons".
