Not going to hear much about this in the MSM, maybe Al Sharpton farted and cleaned out the room.

Hello,

An empty room before a speaker is scheduled to speak.

One wonders at the content of the room while the speaker was actually speaking.

All I know is, that when folks are excited to hear a speaker, they usually get there early , to get a good seat.

With Biden as VP ? Not so much.

Yup; the same photo appears all over the internet, on right-wing blogs. No photos or figures given for when he actually SPOKE, at least that I can find.

Aside from which, I can easily imagine that not as many people attended the Vice President's presentation as those curious to hear what Romney had to say to African Americans, given his stances.
Quote:

Just like Mitt Romney the day before, Vice President Joe Biden was booed at the NAACP convention. Unlike Romney, however, he wasn't booed because the crowd was upset but because they didn't want Biden to stop talking.

Biden, whose presence was met with a response so enthusiastic it resulted in boos when he said he'd be wrapping up his remarks, emphasized his belief that the presumptive Republican nominee is a "fine family man." But his vision for America's future, he argued, is "so fundamentally different" than "how we view the future of America.Sorry to quote Drudge, but I've heard it elswhere and am not about to spend much time seeking another site... http://www.drudge.com/news/158859/biden-booed-naacpfor-ending-his

Not really. There are a more people sitting further from the edges. Crowds tend to fill in the 'easy' seats first - along the aisles, in the front and in the back. If I can guess anything by looking at the event photograph rather than the pre-event one, it's that the room is pretty full since the crowd is filled-in all the way into the hard-to-access middle-of-the-row seats.

And here's the REAL photo of the actual event (and let me just state this photo took less than a minute to find. So Geezer for all his self-proclaimed fairness and pretended smarts apparently couldn't find something factual. Or maybe he did, and simply decided not to post it, b/c, well, the truth didn't make the point he wanted to make. But then that's Geezer for 'ya. As for ZIT, he's just a stupid fuck.):

Still shows much less of the room than the first picture.

Notice that in the first, longer distance, picture there are six blocks of seats across with aisles between them. There are a good number of folks in the middle two blocks, and a few more in the adjoining ones(in front of the video screen to the right of the stage, for example), and almost no one in the outer two. The second picture shows only the center two blocks of seats (not even out to the video screen), and yours the center two blocks and parts of the next two (and just the edge of the video screen). So the two pictures that you claim show more folks really just show the same folks with the empty chairs cropped out.

Provide a picture that shows the entire hall with more folks in it than the first picture, and you have a case.

Nope.

Look at the first picture.

See the big video screen to the right of the stage (your right).

See the entire block of chairs that is to the right of that screen.

Now see your picture you posted.

It only shows about 1/3 of that video screen, so there's no way it's showing wall to wall, or any of the chairs in the block nearest the wall.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Not only that, but the guy's got a serious double standard:

"Provide a picture that shows THE ENTIRE HALL WITH MORE FOLKS IN IT THAN THE FIRST PICTURE, and you have a case."

THE ENTIRE HALL
You mean the photo has to be of the ENTIRE hall to have a case? Well then that lets out ZIT's photo, since it was seriously cropped to show only a small portion of the room leaving out nearly all the the middle and left-hand sections. Unless he means anyone but ZIT b/c he doesn't apply his requirements to right-wing propaganda.

WITH MORE FOLKS IN IT THAN THE FIRST PICTURE
Or maybe he means that even if the photos of any portion of the room show more people than the first picture they still don't count? B/c my photo clearly shows more people than the first photo. And in my book more people is more people, no matter where you take the photo. So does a photo of more people not count with Geezer when it comes from a non-right wing source?

Additionally, that indicates to me that the first photo was deliberately cropped to exclude people, or taken at a time when the room was emptier, or both, and specifically posted in right-wing-nut-world to support a specious claim. Which, to refresh everyone's memory looks like this:
Gaffe Master speaks to empty room

A photo and selection Geezer doesn’t seem to object to either as an egregious (if right-wing) propaganda piece.

In either case, given easily obtained discrediting photos, most normal cough not Geezer cough people realize that there's a credibility problem with the both claim the room was empty and the photo used to support the claim; and would grasp that other photos clearly show not only that it wasn’t the case but also that the first claim and photo were biased.

Realizing that, they wouldn't then be posting twisted efforts at propaganda to support that claim. Unless of course they support biased right-wing propaganda.

Once more, since you can't seem to comprehend.

I said the first picture, which Auraptor posted, and the second picture, which Niki posted, both seemed to show about the same crowd.

Rap's picture is wide-angle, and shows a lot of empty seats.

Niki's picture is closer in, and shows only the occupied seats.

Your picture is also closer in and shows only occupied seats.

So let's go back to that first picture. It shows blocks of seats that are about 15 rows deep and 10 seats wide, for about 150 seats per block. If both sides of the auditorium are set up the same, there would be 12 such blocks (six in the front and six in the back, separated by clearly visible aisles), for total seating of around 1800. The first picture shows the two blocks in the center front pretty well filled, with some folks in the two adjoining front blocks. That'd be, say, 4 or 5 hundred.

Niki's picture shows only the two front center blocks, so you really can't see more than 300 or so, although you may assume there's more on the side, as the first picture shows.

Your picture also appears to show the front center blocks, and part of the adjoining blocks. Pretty much the same seats that are occupied in the first picture. So assume 4 or 5 hundred again.

How you figure that noting that 4 or 5 hundred seats are probably filled in all three photos turns into me stating there was an empty hall is something you'll have to take up with whatever you use for a brain.

Can we dispense with "the entire hall" requirement? After all, the first photo you're whoring after was not "the entire hall".

Second, no one here is making the claim that the room was packed full, only that it wasn't empty - or at least not as empty as the first picture. So your attempts to shift the argument by innuendo are now available for all to see.

So, does my photo show more people than the first photo?

Yes, or no.

Oh, man, this is truly sad! Not only is Geezer going over and over, with math and minutae, to support...what argument exactly? You claim you never stated the room was empty, Geezer, but you were agreeing with the original photo, which was connected to the title of the thread. You're either agreeing that there were VERY FEW PEOPLE there, or you're accepting the last, fuller shot of many people being there. Twisting and turning yourself into a knot doesn't count in a debate. No, you didn't say it was "empty", but from your choice of "sides" and your wording, you were quite obviously arguing on the side of there having been very few people there and that the first photo was accurate. It wasn't, and it was obviously taken from the angle and positioning it was so as to supposedly "show" that Biden's crowd was very, very small. That you can't admit that is amazing.

Let's put them side by side:

Is your argument ACTUALLY that all three photos show the same number of people? You did write:
Quote:

Rap's picture is wide-angle, and shows a lot of empty seats.

Niki's picture is closer in, and shows only the occupied seats.

Your picture is also closer in and shows only occupied seats.

You don't say so, but all throughout you APPEAR to be saying believe there are the same number of people in the audience in all three photos.

This is a prime example of you not being non-partisan. If you truly were, you'd have judged all three photos as objectively as possible, rather than insert yourself into a thread in such a way as to be agreeing with the title and initial statement, AND the link posted in the very first thread, which reads "Biden Speaks To Empty House At NAACP Convention…". You've essentially been arguing all along that the first photo is an accurate depiction of the crowd; is that your stance?

By the way, the original site has an addendum: "Talked to NAACP representative who tells me the rain is to blame... People are slowly coming in", which would explain why the hall was so empty at first and was more filled in later on, which is what I see. Not that it's of any importance whatsoever, I just find your continued attempts to dodge and weave hysterical...but only slightly more so than all the efforts others have made in this ridiculous argument.

On to another, more interesting thread...

And Geezer could end it with a one-word reply - YES (my photo has more people in it than his).

But I'm in it just to hound after him, so I hope he doesn't. B/c so far, this is fun for me. I really do enjoy hounding after him, thread to thread, day to day.

Oh YOO HOO ... Geezer ...

Bingo, Mal4. I came in a couple of times and yeah, I have fun too...in my case by making as explicit and cohesive argument as I (THINK) I can, but to spend more time on it than that? No way; once I've done my bit and it was fun to do, I'm outta here. Just popped back in because it rising to the top meant there'd been posts, so curiousity is my worst enemy. But I'm never blind as to how silly the entire thread is, it's truly absurd!

I have a strong suspicion you won't see much (if anything) more of Geezer; I've noticed a few times that once his "arguments" are shown not to hold water, we don't see him again. Or not.

I guess it's coming in here and reading all this at once, all the back-and-forth on something that was pretty darned stupid to start with (It IS a whozit thread, after all). It could be settled with hard facts if someone would just break open the M&M jars and do the counting.

It reminds me of an interaction I'm not proud of. At summer camp when I was maybe in 5th grade I had an extended argument with a frenemy about whether the earth is the 2nd or 3rd planet from the sun. (I was arguing 3rd. Yes, I was right, and yes, we were both HUGE dorks.)

That was a loooong time ago, but it has stuck in my mind because of how upset it made me (but I'm RIGHT and I KNOW it because I memorized this stuff! Why won't she believe me?) and also because of how very stupid it was. I was aware of the pointlessness even while I was doing it. We had no internet, but we could have found some kind of reference and looked it up. Problem solved. Back-and-forth not needed.

Back to this thread, I look at these pictures and I can imagine constructing a map of the auditorium, drawing lines showing EXACTLY what can and cannot be seen from each camera, and then filling in which seats are full and which aren't in each shot. Viola. I am quite capable of doing that. (Dork here, remember?) but WHY the hell would I waste the time? Who the fuck really cares?

But unless someone's going to do that, what is the point of carrying on?

Just to stress what a dork I am, and being on vacation so I have time to do silly things like this, I actually started looking for more pictures of the space so I could imagine mapping out the seating area. (Not saying I was actually going to do it...)

Here's what I found:

Yeah. That face is Romney on the screen. This is a near empty room during Mitt's actual appearance. And need I remind folks: this "crowd" includes at least a busload (more?) of "VIPs" that Romney bussed in, people who aren't active in NAACP. (This according to event organizers, as I've posted elsewhere in RWED recently.)

Hey whozit, who farted this time? Maybe no one needed to. Maybe it was just the stench of **smug** coming of the Romster that scared everyone away.

ETA: I guess I've joined the stupidity of this thread. Go me.

I think Geezer will agree with me when I say that a more accurate headline for this picture would be "Romney speaks to almost excusively empty room."

Yes, or no.

Your answer is in what I've already written. Apparently you, Story and Mike are just plain too stupid (or just too blinded by your bias) to see it, so let's try again.

First picture, I estimate 400 or 500 people.

Second picture, can only see around 300 due to tight shot. May be more off-camera but have no evidence of that.

Third picture, again about 400 to 500 people, and again may be more off camera but no proof.

Now take off your blinders, read the previous three sentences WITHOUT thinking about who wrote them, and you'll have your answer. I bet you can't do it.

Almost "excusively"? A room almost empty of excuses? Romney need make no excuses? Didn't know you were a Freudian Slip Conservative, Mike.

Damn, Mal, you started to do exactly what I started to do. I hung it up early on myself, not being able to find pictures from enough of a common angle that I could make a comparison. Never thought to look for a pic of Romney and the hall- it looks almost like a mirror image of the Biden "empty hall' pic.

I tried searching for "Biden NAACP" and all I got was close-ups of Old Joe. Figured SOMEBODY besides the Rusho-Clones would pick up the story on the "empty" hall, one way or the other, and print/post some crowd pics, but I guess not.

Objectively, it looks like the organizers figured there would be a way larger turnout for both speakers, and way smaller crowds turned out for both.

Well, that doesn't surprise me. I imagine the number of African-Americans who wanted to hear what Romney had to say wasn't that many; maybe more like a "crash-on-the-side-of-the-road" curiosity.

And how many people would want to hear Biden speak rather than Obama? Wouldn't draw nearly the crowd, I would assume. Especially as it was raining. The article said more trickled in, but I really wouldn't have expected a big turnout for either of them.

And yeah, Mal4, you about nailed it...anything put up by Whatzit...well, the one thing you can expect is that the title will have little or nothing to do with the actual subject (among other things).
