According to KCTV5, an 87-year-old woman defended her home from two cat burglars by scaring them off with her pistol.

Christopher Lewis, Left, and Lance Staton were linked to a string of robberies in the area. The incident happened last Thursday morning near Hendersonville, North Carolina. She apparently witnessed the two burglars break in, then quickly retrieved her 9mm handgun.

The woman, whose name was not provided, then called 911 saying she had been burglarized but that she thought she had scared her assailants off with her gun because “she didn’t see anything but heard one person leave.”

Reportedly, when the dispatcher asked her to call 911 back if the burglars returned, the woman replied, “No I’m going to shoot them…well you know, I will stay armed until the police get here.” The dispatcher then asked her to secure her gun while officers arrived, to which she agreed.

Fortunately, the two suspects were captured later that day. The woman is somewhat of a hero as the two were linked to a string of robberies that have occurred in the area. Twenty-four-year-old Christopher Lewis and Lance Staton, 24, are both under $60,000 bonds on charges of first degree burglary and are detained at the local county detention center.

One of the woman’s alleged assailants Lewis is a registered sex offender. Potentially, the 87-year-old may have saved herself from being raped in addition to being burglarized.

By the looks of the Henderson County Sheriff’s FAQ page, criminals would be foolish to attempt burglaries anywhere in that county. They list: “How do I apply for a permit to purchase a gun?” in their top ten frequently asked questions, followed by “How do I apply for a Carry Concealed Weapon Permit?”

It’s apparent the citizens of Henderson County, NC deeply value their right to bear arms, as did this Florida man, 71-year-old Samuel Williams, who last month defended himself, his wife and a group of people by use of his own concealed handgun against an armed holdup in an internet cafe. That story didn’t make major headlines either, but it deserves revisiting.

Hell, PN - I can top that, and better, this is a classic example of reality versus public perception of CCW holders, happened this Monday in fact.

It was the best kind of neighborhood watch.

An Ypsilanti Township man who heard glass breaking Saturday night discovered two people who appeared to be in the process of burglarizing his neighbor’s home and held them in the back yard until police arrived, Washtenaw County sheriff’s deputies said.

The man was at his home in the 1400 block of Harry Street when he heard what sounded like glass breaking about 8:30 p.m., Washtenaw County sheriff’s deputies said in a press release. He went to his neighbor’s house across the street to check it out and found a man leaving the home through a window and another man standing by the patio door. He ordered them to sit, and they complied.

“He used his powers of persuasion to make sure they didn’t go anywhere,” said Sgt. Geoffrey Fox of the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office.

Nothing appeared to have been taken and the men did not have any weapons, Fox said. The rear window had been broken with a brick, police said.

The suspects, Dezman Makowski-Smith, 18, and Donte Smith, 17, both of Ypsilanti, were arraigned Sunday on charges of home invasion and malicious destruction of property.

Now, here's the kicker - Mike, the dude who confronted and intimidated these two creeps, is in fact a CCW holder and was armed, in fact he had begun to draw as he approached unseen by them - but upon realizing the potentive perps were unarmed teens, he left his piece in the holster and used force of personality instead.

Still armed, still ABLE to defend himself with lethal force if needs be, but no damn need to go waving it around like some kinda mechanical penis extension, contrary to the deliberately fostered misperception of CCW holders as raving maniacs.
In fact, the putative perps here never realized he was armed at all.

Good job all around, since having Mike on the scene also discouraged the local police from indulging in any brutality, weren't no need for it, and they have as of late been mostly disposing of that habit, thankfully.

I won't miss Donte Smith, that's for sure, I've chased him outta here at least once, as I recall.

Yes, that was the correct repsonse, to keep it holstered, out of sight. That requires confidence and knowledge of law.

He's lucky they didn't run, or he'd have to tackle one and perhaps fight two. Which probably would have required shooting them in self defense.

I assume he had a cellphone to call 911 while making a citizen's arrest.

I have a friend recently convicted of felony reckless endangerment for drawing his gun in self defense, even after he called 911 to report his side of the incident. Case is on appeal. He'd never have been arrested if he'd kept it holstered, but put his hand on the handle for quick draw if required, as all police do during routine traffic stops with little old ladies.
