Hey browncoats! I know most of you are not into the metal scene, but I wanted to give props (and raise awareness) of a local Richmond, VA band called Hypokalypse. They are a great bunch of guys and their lead guitarist, Ramzi, is only 16 years old and already a super talented axe player. Ramzi writes all of the music and lyrics for their songs. I have been following these guys for months since first catching them opening for Megadeth back in April. They went through a lineup change, dropping their lead singer and parting ways with one of their guitarists, but their new lineup is killer! Their sounds, the lyrics, and the energy they put off on stage is amazing.

The vids shown are from their show at The National in Richmond on 8/11/12. Video was shot by an friend of the band and while the quality is not pro level you can still hear the band well.

Thanks for the interest.

There are some better quality recordings on the ReverbNation link above, but those are with the original singer who they had to let go. They are working on getting into the studio now to record a cd. I am eagerly awaiting that cd and they will be posting the tracks on ReverbNation for people to listen to.

I'll keep you posted.

Hypokalypse won the Slamuary Battle of the Bands at KC's Music Alley in Fredericksburg, VA winning the slot to open for Straight Line Stitch on Sat, Feb 2nd.

The band also moved to #1 on the metal chart on ReverbNation / RVA.

There are a couple new vids up on their YouTube channel with better quality sound from their gig at Cullen's Cove if you are interested. The earlier vids from The National and Kingdom don't have the best quality sound due to the devices used to record.

They have an EP on the way that should be available in the next week or two. Once it is out I will post a link for those that are interested in checking it out.

"Texas Funeral" and "Scavenger's Daughter" are the first two tracks released for people to check out and are listed as the first two songs on the ReverbNation play list for the band's page.

The band is traveling to Norfolk, VA on Saturday 4/13 to compete in a Battle of the Bands to compete to open for Mastodon at an upcoming show in VA. Details as I get them on the Mastodon show, but if you are interested in attending the BotB this Saturday tickets are $10 at the door and the show starts at 7pm. I will be there along with a couple of other browncoats who are fans of the band. Come on out and support local music!

Hypokalypse won the Battle of the Bands at the NorVA in Norfolk, VA on Sat, 4/13, winning the slot to open for Mastodon in August. The concert will be held in the NorVA venue on Tue, Aug 13th at 8pm. If you are local or will be in the area, stop in and support a great local band.

The guys are also lined up in another Battle of the Bands on Sat, June 22nd in VA Beach to fight for a spot to play Mayhem Fest in Bristow, VA. Wish them luck!
