Yes. You. Anywhere from now to 120 years from this moment... you will no longer be alive.

Did you matter? Even a little?

Perspective is my bitch, and I love to make her howl.

It is a matter of your bitch, perspective that is.

I do not fear God, I fear the ignorance of man.

HKCAVALIER

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

--Nelson Mandela

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Of course I'm going to die. I've been living in bonus rounds for more than 30 years already; I've made my peace with mortality, and I've touched a thousand lives, each of which has touched a thousand more. I'm connected to everyone and everything, so although I'll go, I'll never be all the way gone.

My first response was to wonder - is he trying to shake us up by awakening in us a sense of fleeting time and impending mortality? Are we then supposed to wake up and ... buy a red Corvette, get a young lover and wear gold jewelry? Waaassssuuup dooood?

But I am really curious where he's coming from. There's a story there. Maybe he's on an up-cycle.

DEVERSE

Hey, Ive been in a firefight before! Well, I was in a fire. Actually, I was fired from a fry-cook opportunity.

How do you know who will and who will not be alive?

Are you the all seeing and all knowing, the sayer of all things and the voice of all that can or will be?

For all you know I have been alive since the beginning of time and will still be here when time ends.
A secret and silent watcher with no purpose but to mark the passing.
The only one to get the joke of life's meaning and guffaw at the pitiful aspirations so desperately sought.

Life.
A speck, a mote of dust that floats past ones eye.
A nothing of nothing.
Here and gone as quickly with nothing to mark its passing.

And yet, the hopeful hope that one's life has some meaning to anyone anywhere at any time but, in reality, an irritation and an aggravation one comes into contact with, so much like the dust mote that falls within one's eye and those so inhabited with frantic and vigorous effort try and remove it.

Mortals.
The past and the future concepts they can neither assimilate nor comprehend.
Barely able to grasp the present.
And yet, so unimaginatively worried about what has happened and what will happen.
Believing that time passes.

Silly mortals, time does not pass, it stands still forever.

What passes then you ask?

Why, you do.

In the most unremarkable way.

Oh let the sun beat down upon my face
With stars to fill my dream
I am a traveler of both time and space
To be where I have been

FREMDFIRMA

*points to the wreckage of WWASPS*
Not to sound arrogant, but I didn't start small even when I was a young teen - I took on an impossible task, one I never expected to even accomplish in my lifetime at all, so anything beyond that is just bonus points.
But more than that, I wanted, still want, to leave something more than a monument to arrogance, something more for upcoming generations than a future of our failures...
I am not the first Fremdfirma, I will not be the last.
There will ALWAYS *BE* a Fremdfirma, one or another, or another.
Whether I matter as an individual or not means nothing.

In perspective though, we're all just little flecks of dust on an insignificant little blue speck of dirt in some back corner of the universe, which cares about us not at all.
See that little dot there ?
That's us, ALL of us.
How important do you think we really are ?

Quote:

"We succeeded in taking that picture, and, if you look at it, you see a dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever lived, lived out their lives. The aggregate of all our joys and sufferings, thousands of confident religions, ideologies and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilizations, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every hopeful child, every mother and father, every inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every superstar, every supreme leader, every saint and sinner in the history of our species, lived there on a mote of dust, suspended in a sunbeam.

The earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and in triumph they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of the dot on scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner of the dot. How frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity -- in all this vastness -- there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. It is up to us. It's been said that astronomy is a humbling, and I might add, a character-building experience. To my mind, there is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly and compassionately with one another and to preserve and cherish that pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known."

-Carl Sagan

The only thing that really MATTERS, in the end - is how we treat one another.
Whether that means condemnation, or celebration, is up to you.
Force and Fear and Hate, or Compassion, Empathy and Respect, it's all a choice, one we make every day.
And that is what defines us, that is what makes us who we are, what we are.
To be human, is inevitable - to be HUMANE, now that is a step forward in the scheme of all things.
Just so, every step backward on that road dooms us all, so kindly take the roadblock of your purile and disgusting malice somewhere it might be more welcome, Wulfenwhiner.

Dear gawd, Kiki, don't encourage him! We'll be treated to a lengthy post about how wonderful he is and how many great things he's done!

Kiki, personally I'm betting "he feels that he the only one" who MATTERS, from what we've heard from him! Quite possibly that's the purpose of the thread, to blather at us about how great he is and none of us measure up or something.

As for me, I've done my bit. I've helped wildlife, I've helped a goodly number of people with mental illnesses, I've given a home to two people who didn't have one; I've rescued and given a full life to a number of cats, dogs, rabbits, I've loved and been loved. As Frem said:

A big "amen"...but a) I think the message will be lost on the questioner, and b) that last sentence kinda negates the feeling of the others, don't it?

Nah, that was to make very extremely sure it's abundantly clear I don't count him in with the Humane, otherwise his own ego and arrogance would allow him to assume it, which I refuse to let him do.

It was just a reminder, as some here tend to forget.

You are not, nor will you ever be, immortal. So, get out and make a positive difference.

As to Frem and Niks.. well, hell. To them, I am all that they hate. This is actually a good thing.

If the ugliest and worst of all humanity hate you... you are doing pretty well.

In any case. Yes, you are going to die. Most likely, noone is going to remember you. So whats the point?

Continuing the species? Living comfortably? Doing small good deeds that maybe make things slightly better?

Or is it something more?

As has been pointed out, the entire planet is a dot in an infinite number of dots.

Pathetic. Who is Wulf, to tell us to get out and make a difference? Again, the arrogance is mind blowing!

Wulf, little man, I don't hate you, you're not sufficiently interesting or important enough to hate. That you see me as the ugliest and worst of all humanity speaks volumes about you and not a damned thing about me--that you think my somehow "hating" you means you're doing pretty well is...well, there are no words. Except, as you most excellently illustrate time and time again, pathetic.

The world you live in is filled with fantasy, heroes and fiction, and is both incapable of seeing things other than in black and white, as well as self-aggrandizing, self-centered, and obviously filled with ACTUAL hate; from what you've shown yourself to be here, you'll be one of the ones who dies without ever having actually LIVED, sadly. That you give yourself so much importance as to think anyone here "hates" you is, yeah, well, again, pathetic.

You spend far more time hating others than anyone here ever bothered hating you, and you are quite content to spew that hatred when you feel like it. Remember
Quote:

] "Actually, Niki. You, and yours, are a dying breed. Feel that? Its age creeping up on you. Hurts a little more getting up in the morning, doesn't it? Thank GOD, you and your kind are finally starting to die off. Its just a matter of time. "Getting old, but still a hippie at heart..."

And considering that you and your kind are so spoiled and selfish that you couldn't even conceive of having children (THANK GOD), your philosophy is finally fucking dying.

Its up to those of us who suffered through your generations assclownery to rule the world. And many of us, have figured out that your life-style, belief-system, idiocy were false.

You die, your sick beliefs die with you. And the world is better for it.

Hurry up already.

None of you are spectacular enough to be the worst of humanity. But many of you are spectacular enough to have done good things for the world in various capacities, to make a difference, Wulf included. I think most of us work in our corners and coridors to make things better around us. If everyone does this then things can improve bit by bit. Some people have bigger spheres of influence than others.
