Yeah, exploring moving production to China. Like I said.

Sure, the local lines will stay open cause they're committed to US operations till they build factories in China and hire thousands of low wage non-union workers. After that, all bets are off.

"The Bloomberg story, however, sparked the confusion in the first paragraph of the story, saying Chrysler planned to return Jeep output to China "and may eventually make all of its models in that country."

But the reporter included Mike Manley, chief operating officer of Fiat and Chrysler in Asia, later in the story referring to adding Jeep production sites rather than shifting output from North America to China."

Actually, Jeep is looking to ADD production capability, not MOVE production. They're looking to open lines in China, yes, but that's so that they can sell to the world's largest emerging car market IN ADDITION TO selling here in the U.S. at the same time.

Mitt's got it totally wrong, as usual - they aren't trying to move all their production to China; they're looking to EXPAND production, which includes adding factories in China.

For the record, no car company has ever survived longterm owning of the Jeep brand, so this could be the downfall of FIAT.

Do you think "Hero" will ever admit how completely wrong he is here? Or does he already know he's wrong, meaning that he was lying when he posted this?

I like my Jeep. Not as much as I liked my old 300Z, which may be unpatriotic, but the Z was just nice. If I ever move to warmer climates and don't need the 4WD, I may go back to sportscar mode.

After owning a Dodge Durango, I can't imagine anyone owning any Jeep or Chrysler vehicle on purpose. That Dodge is the biggest POS I've ever encountered, and I've owned a Vega, a couple Opels, an Audi and a couple Volvos!

The Durango currently has an issue where you have to run it with the lights on, horn fuse pulled, and you have to disconnect the battery when you shut it off, because for some reason it seems to think the security system is malfunctioning, so it randomly honks the horn and flashes the lights while you're driving. Or when it's parked. Or at 3am. Or noon.

Shops say it's a fault in the security system, until I point out that it doesn't have one. "Oh," they say, "Then it's the keyless entry system." Except I don't have one of those, either. "Hmmmmm... Must be the alternator, then." Except it's been checked by three shops, and is fine. At that case they invite me to go try another shop.

The day I put the match to this pig of a beast will be a good day for me.

And I never knew when I'd be stranded. I wanted to take it to a remote wooded corner of a parking lot I knew, and put a bullet through the engine block. Some cars are a pos and just drive one nuts ...

Keep the Shiny side up

The story.

Quote:

Fiat SpA (F), majority owner of Chrysler Group LLC, plans to return Jeep output to China and may eventually make all of its models in that country, according to the head of both automakers’ operations in the region.

Fiat is in “very detailed conversations” with its Chinese partner, Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. (2238), about making Jeeps in the world’s largest auto market, said Mike Manley, chief operating officer of Fiat and Chrysler in Asia. Chrysler hasn’t built Jeeps there since before Fiat took control in 2009.

Looks like the take-away here is to be sure to read deeper than the first couple of paragraphs.

So you read "make all of its models" as "move all of its production"?

Is that the takeaway?

Also, note for the record that in a post saying people should probably read more than the first couple paragraphs... you quoted only the first couple paragraphs.

Here's the fifth paragraph, which you apparently didn't read, or didn't bother to quote since it doesn't comport with Romney's untrue statements:

Quote:

Chrysler currently builds all Jeep SUV models at plants in Michigan, Illinois and Ohio. Manley referred to adding Jeep production sites rather than shifting output from North America to China.

Since right-wingers typically can't read very well (Mitt seems as guilty of this as you and Rappy do), I can see why y'all got so confused. And clearly an American company growing in its exports and overseas markets is a bad thing for Mitt to acknowledge, so instead he just makes something up which isn't true in the least.

Oh, I don't mind schooling these fools on the facts. I don't do it for them, since they've clearly left the fact-based world of reality and are now living in the FauxNews™ post-factual world; I do it for any innocent passers-by who might stumble across their idiocy and mistake it for a valid point.

Also, it helps me sharpen my own arguments, since this isn't the only place I run across their particular breed of insanity and inanity. I have people I grew up with who actually believe this same kind of crap - Obama's a Kenyan "Muslin" Marxist-Stalinist-Maoist-Nazi-anti-colonialist - and I have to keep trying to get them to adhere to actual FACTS in a discussion, lest they veer off into PN-land or RappyLand.

Is it mean? Not at all - I laugh at that piece of shit every day! I need to find the letter "Y" in the same size/font style as the "D O D G E" logo on the tailgate of the beast, so I can replace the "E" and make it spell "DODGY", because that best describes the build quality of this pig.

Did I mention it has less than 41,000 miles on it? Things began falling off it pretty much the day I inherited it. Probably before that, even, but my dad was a big Mopar believer.

It carries no spare tire, because that fell off. Seriously. While I was driving, the spare fell off from its mount underneath the car. It was held up by a winch-n-cable setup, and the cable snapped one day. Full-size, 75-pound spare bounding down the road at 45mph, it's a wonder nobody was killed. Then the front wheel bearings failed about a week after that. Whole interior door panels have come off in people's hands as they try to pull the rear doors closed.

I had a shop tell me they thought they could fix the electrical issues, maybe, for "around $1600". I told the guy, and I quote: "That piece of shit has a street value of about fifty bucks, and that's only IF I fill the gas tank first. Before I'll pay you or anyone else sixteen hundred to 'maybe' fix it, I'll put a rag in the gas tank, a brick on the accelerator, and aim it off a cliff before lighting the rag and dropping it in Drive!"

He said he completely understood. Must've been a Dodge man himself...

I have been accused of being a sockpuppet on several occassions. A few of our more right leaning members have as well. Like several different real life people could not all possibly be "for this" or "against that".

I was just wondering if perhaps it goes both ways. Perhaps some of the more vocal left leaning members were doing exactly what they were chiding others for supposedly doing. Adding more consenting voices to support their side or some such.

If yours isn't, I'm happy for you. My previous Dodge, a '95 Ram 1500, was fabulous, right up until it was hit by a drunk driver while parked in my driveway.

This one? Not so much. It will be the last Mopar I ever own, I'm sure.

Rappy's response? "You're lying, gullible ( believing in some BS you heard on msnbc ) or hard of hearing."

None whatsoever. I just try not to generalize too much.

So I guess you were lying when you slagged Chrysler. You made statements about the overall quality of all Chrysler products when you yourself knew that to be untrue.

Which, of course, is your perrogative. Although finding a car manufacturer without any issues with their product will be pretty near impossible IMHO.

Did I?

Did I make statements about the overall quality of ALL Chrysler products? And did I KNOW those statements to be untrue?

According to Geezer, if I didn't know they were untrue, or even if I did, but BELIEVED them to be true, I couldn't be lying.

I'm not looking for a car manufacturer "without any issues"; I'm looking for a car that doesn't shed parts like my dog sheds fur. But nice strawman.

Meanwhile, GOP Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) claims that Obama's policies are hurting a carmaker that Romney's father once ran, and which hasn't existed since 1988.

Quote:

CHRIS JENSING (HOST): Let me ask you about some of the things going on on the campaign trail, and there’s a controversy about Mitt Romney telling voters that Jeep is going to move production to China. According to the company that’s entirely false. Is he lying about that?
BLACKBURN: Oh, well, I don’t know. I haven’t talked with with the campaign staff about that. I will say this. For workers in the auto industry, across the board, whether it is GM, whether it’s Nissan, whether it’s American Motors, individuals are very concerned about the impact of regulation that the EPA and OSHA and other federal agencies are heaping on our manufacturers.

For the record, the Dakota ain't no better - good LUCK getting the heater to work for more than a month, part of the blame for that is on Johnson Controls as well, which makes the crummy climate control system in a LOT of cars alas.

As for Jeep, our maintanence guy bought one and has hated ever since, the whole engine went kablooie recently (still under warranty thankfully) and they stuck him with an Avenger? this halfass mini-wannabe SUV that he hated even WORSE... I've all but got him sold on doing a Duramax conversion the day the warranty runs out.

I love my bitty beamer E30-type, you couldn't PAY me to drive american made these days cause it's all (North) "american" made, which means slammed together in mexico out of cheap chinese parts cast from metal I consider inadequate to make pots and pans with....
