Seriously. The mentality of some of these people:
Quote:

Maine GOP Chair contends mysterious black people voted in rural towns

Out-going Maine Republican Party Chairman Charlie Webster said Thursday "In several rural Maine towns, there were dozens, dozens of black people who came in and voted on Election Day. Everybody has the right to vote, but nobody in town knows anybody that's black -- how did that happen? I don't know. We're going to find out."

Webster stood by the claim in an interview with the Portland Press Herald. "I'm not talking about 15 or 20. I'm talking hundreds," he said. "I'm not politically correct and maybe I shouldn't have said these voters were black, but anyone who suggests I have a bias toward any race or group, frankly, that's sleazy."

The idea that they wouldn't have been allowed to vote if they weren't registered, with their names on the registration rolls, apparently never occurred to him. He and his buddies just "didn't know" them, so apparently...what, exactly?
Quote:

A state senator who served as co-chair of Mitt Romney’s Wisconsin campaign suggested this week that the Republican presidential nominee would have carried the state if a voter ID law had been in place.

Voter ID “absolutely” would have made a difference in the outcome of the election, state Sen. Alberta Darling (R) told Mike Gousha of WISN on Sunday.

Obama won more than 52 percent of the vote in Wisconsin. His margin of victory over Romney was more than 200,000 votes. http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/11/romney_wisconsin_vot
er_id.php

Ooops...kinda of one of those things they all believe but it's stupid to say. Voter ID would have stopped, what, 200,000 cases of "voter fraud"???
Quote:

Note that she does not identify any cases of fraud by Democrats while we have news reports of Republicans who were arrested for attempting voter fraud and filling in ballots.

Alberta Darling (who was a state co-chair for Romney’s campaign) is not citing examples of voter fraud, she’s advocating voter suppression as the only way for Republicans to win. http://wisconsinforward.tumblr.com/post/35739764300/wisconsin-republic

As to those mentions of Republicans arrested for voter fraud:
Quote:

Tuesday, 13 November 2012 A Republican voter attempted to vote twice in Nevada during Early Voting in the state. Appropriately enough, she was quickly arrested and taking into custody by the FBI. Nevada's system of preventing double-voting at the polls worked well and efficiently. (and) On Election Day, another Republican, this one a party-trained poll watcher, was detained in New Mexico after claiming to have been "testing" the system by obtaining a second ballot.

There is no word yet if the detained Republican poll challenger in New Mexico was working with the pretend "non-partisan" group calling themselves "True the Vote", a Republican-funded "voter fraud" fraudster outfit that had promised to deploy one million challengers to the polls on Tuesday in order to ferret out "Democratic voter fraud".

To date, we've not heard of any of those "million" GOP poll watchers catching even a single instance of "voter fraud", though on Tuesday, as we noted at the time, Franklin County, OH officials had rejected their applications to be poll watchers in that county after it was discovered that they had forged the signatures of volunteers on their poll watcher applications. We also noted that day that the Houston NAACP had announced their own volunteers were being "attacked" by True the Vote poll watchers for having given bottles of water to voters who had been forced to stand in line for hours to vote. http://truth-out.org/news/item/12724-two-republicans-arrested-for-atte

and as of this past election:
Quote:

Tuesday, November 6, 2012...An election worker in Oregon is facing a criminal investigation for allegedly altering multiple ballots to benefit Republican candidates.

Swenson, who was registered as a Republican, was accused of filling in a Republican straight ticket on ballots where voters did not specify a choice.

The Oregon Department of Justice began an investigation last week after an elections official reportedly observed ballots being altered.

“At this point, it is unclear how many ballots the employee at issue had access to, or what will be done with those ballots,” the sheriff’s office said on Monday.

At a Monday emergency meeting, officials in Clackamas County announced that the altered ballots would not be counted. Since ballots were anonymous, disenfranchised voters would not be given a chance to re-cast their votes. http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/11/06/oregon-election-worker-fired-for

Then there's this, in Wisconsin itself:
Quote:

Looks like the telephone number used in the election fraud robocall from this morning that told people to stay home is a GOP party number.

Oops.
Quote:

Wisconsin Republicans are saying they are not behind a voter fraud allegation tied to a phone number registered to the party...

In her letter to the GAB, Taylor said that the calls regarding the petition signatures came from a Madison-area phone number. A call placed to that number came back with a voicemail saying the caller had reached the Wisconsin Republican Party...

The phone number is not the main listed number of the state GOP. The phone is used by the GOP for phone-bank purposes.

Seems to me the only ones actually COMMITTING voter fraud are the Republicans...and if they were "testing" the system as those two claimed, well, gosh, they just showed the system WORKS! Will that shut them up, y'think?

Hello,

"Where did all these black people come from? I never even knew they existed!"

"Maybe that's why they voted against you, Sir."

Good one, Anthony!

Tit for tat got us where we are today. If we want to be grownups, we need to resist the ugliness. If we each did, this would be a better reflection on Firefly and a more welcome place. I will try.

Hello,

I guess the man needs to read the census figures, because he seemed to be shocked that hundreds were voting.

ETA: Correction. First it was dozens. Then it was hundreds.

Yeah, I caught that. Man seems to have some problems...first "In some parts of rural Maine, there were dozens, dozens of black people who came in and voted on Election Day”, then the same day, "I'm not talking about 15 or 20. I'm talking hundreds," he said Wednesday." Shees...

Thankfully, also have been catching the push-back by the Republicans themselves:
Quote:

Lance Dutson, a well-known Republican operative who worked for U.S. Sen. Susan Collins and Maine House Speaker Robert Nutting and ran this year's U.S. Senate campaign of Charlie Summers, said Thursday that Webster should resign immediately.

"Webster's statements should be cause for immediate resignation," Dutson wrote on Twitter. "Any GOP who values future of party should demand same."

Matt Jacobson, a Republican who ran for governor in the 2010 primary, tweeted "In Navy, when ship runs aground, Captain is relieved. Charlie Webster needs to stop talking. Now."

"Any time you identify specific groups in general terms, that's hurtful," Rep. Kenneth Fredette of Newport, who was elected Wednesday as the new House minority leader, said. "If there are specific complaints, they should be investigated, but these general statements and claims don't help anyone."

"Any comments that turn people off, even if they energize the base, can hurt the party as a whole," Fredette said.

Good to hear them speak up, whatever they may believe privately. Dunno if it was that or something else that caused him to backtrack...verbally anyway, later:
Quote:

After enduring two days of criticism -- much of it from members of his own party -- Maine Republican Party Chairman Charlie Webster apologized late Thursday for suggesting that groups of unknown black voters showed up at rural polling places on Election Day.

"It was my intention to talk not about race, but about perceived voting irregularities," Webster said in a written statement. "However, my comments were made without proof of wrongdoing and they had the unintended consequence of casting aspersions on an entire group of Americans. For that, I am truly sorry."

In his apology, Webster made it clear that his claim did not express the views of the party.

By the time he sent his apology, though, his comments had offended many, including people in the party. The story also was appearing on national websites, including Drudge Report, Gawker and Politico.
http://www.kjonline.com/news/webster_issues-apology_2012-11-15.html

None of which initially stopped this paranoid racist:
Quote:

Webster said he has identified five “pockets” of the state where he has concerns about voting irregularities. He would not identify those areas, but said he plans to mail “Thank You” cards to all of the newly registered voters. If a large number of cards are returned because the addresses are invalid, Webster said, he will know he is on to something.

He did say when he apologized that he didn't plan to send any cards. But Webster said he still believes that there were voting irregularities on Election Day and he will continue looking into it on his own time. Nonetheless, he's not seeking re-election. That's one down...

It's not his first time, either:
Quote:

Last year, Webster alleged that 200 college students engaged in voter fraud. The Secretary of State’s office reviewed the claim, which was found to be unsubstantiated.

Man has some problem with voters he of which he doesn't approve, apparently...

Tit for tat got us where we are today. If we want to be grownups, we need to resist the ugliness. If we each did, this would be a better reflection on Firefly and a more welcome place. I will try.

Given the census records, I should hope that _thousands of people of African descent voted in Maine in the election.
