This really pisses me off, been watching this a while, in case the situation wasn't what it seemed - or wishing it wasn't, mostly.

Cleveland police-chase shooting: As more information emerges, so do the questions
http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2012/12/east_cleveland_police
_shooting.html

Long and short of it, the cops supposedly heard a shot, or shots, fired.. somewhere.
And then chose to immediately assume they were fired from a nearby car and gave chase, eventually firing over 137 rounds, pressing the chase when ordered to back off, and killing two people who's only crime was DWB.

I say this cause no shell casings, no gun to be found and I think we all know they tested the stiffs for gunpowder residue and if they'd found so much as a speck the blue mafia propaganda machine would be shouting it from the mountain cause it's SOP to demonize even innocent victims if they can.

Now yeah, sure, some people might say running from the cops is suspicious, but the thought that occurs to ME is that they might have heard the same shot, or shots, and thought the cops were firing at THEM - it's not an unreasonable fear when it's become obvious most police departments are so far off the leash it's not even funny, and even the Supreme Court has acknowledged in official statements that the conduct of police has become such that it is no longer an unreasonable response to flee from the police.

Frankly, IF they cops thought they'd been shot at by these people, and they had surrended, I do not think the end result (i.e. getting dead) would be any goddamn different save that it would not have involved a hundred plus shots and a car chase - as I believe due to their gang mentality the cops had murderous intentions (aka Mens Rea) going into this.

If anything, the fact that they ran, and "made a fight of it" insomuch as their actions exposed the unforgiveable conduct of a bunch of badge bearing goons who belong on the wrong end of a noose, accomplished the only thing which could have been accomplished here, although I doubt their intention was anything but getting away from the crazy blue mob.

I've long said that meek surrender in some cases might well be a bad idea, between the old "excited delirium" bolus (which you notice completely EVAPORATED once they started installing tamper proof counters in them tasers, ehe ?) to a recent rash of so-called-suicides I don't buy for a moment.

Once you're in their custody, in their power, you are at their mercy.
And they don't have any.

In an act of karmic justice which would have been entertaining but for the openly displayed malice towards the people they supposedly protect, and the waste of tax money, the police in Mongomery County down in Texas managed to crash their new drone into their own SWAT team...
http://gizmodo.com/5890507/police-drone-crashes-into-police
Fer the love of cryin mercy do they put STUPID in the water down there or something ?
(no offense Mikey)

I figure it this way, if the boys in blue are going to ACT like a hostile occupation force, we should start treating them like one, don't speak to them, trade with them, socialize with them, cut them off from any form of social or human contact on or off duty, exile and ostracise them.
And no, I don't buy into any excuse that such is a provocation since it's the same "logic" behind why-do-you-make-me-hit-you used by interfamilial abusers, which a VERY disproportionate amount of cops are, and this conduct more or less is, just on a wider social scale.

This sort of thing happens so often, it barely registers anymore. I agree with you that most police have serious mental issues (seems a prerequisite just to want to be one,) and are best avoided any way you can.

They are gangs unto themselves, and the militarized training used now makes them vicious. Lapdogs, protectors, and revenue generators of the ruling class.

SLAVE OWNERS MANUAL

The following pamphlet was obtained by my father during his visit to the National Civil Rights Museum.

The Willie Lynch Address

Gentlemen,

I greet you here on the bank of the James River in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Twelve. First I shall thank you, the Gentlemen of the Colony of Virgina, for bringing me here. I am here to help you solve some of your problems with slaves. Your invitation reached me on my modest plantation in the West Indies where I have experienced with some of the newest and still the oldest methods for control of slaves. Ancient Rome would envy us is my program is implemented. As our boat sailed south on the James River, named for our illustrious ing, whose version of the Bible we cherish, I saw enough to know that your problem is not unique. While Rome used cords of wood as crosses for standing Human bodies along its old highways in great numbers you are here using the tree and rope on occasion.

I caught the whiff of a dead slave hanging from a tree a couple miles back. You are not only losing valuable stock by hanging, you are having uprisings, slaves are running away, your crops are sometimes left in the fields too long for maximum profit. You suffer occasional fires, your animals are killed. Gentlemen you know what your problems are; I do not need to elaborate. I am not here to enumerate your problems, I am here to introduce you to a method of solving them. In my bag here, I have a fool proof method for controlling your black slaves. I guarantee everyone of you that if installed correctly it will control the slaves for at least 300 years1. My method is simple. Any member of your family can use it.

I have outlined a number of differneces amount the slaves and I take theses differences and make them bigger. I use fear, distrust, and envy for control purposes. These methods have worked on my modest plantation in the West Indies and it will work throughout the South. Take this simple list of differences, and think about them. On top of my list is "Age" but it is there only because it starts with an "A", the second is "color" or shade, there is intelligence, size, sex, size of plantations, status on plantation, attitude of owners, whether the slaves live in the valley, on a hill, east, west, north, south, have fine hair, course hair, or is tall or short. Now that you have a list of differences, I shall give you an outline of action-but before that I shall assure you that distrust is stronger than trust and envy is stronger than adulation, respect, or admiration.

The black slave after receiving this indoctrination shall carry on and will become self-refueling a self generating for hundreds, maybe thousands.

Don't forget you must pitch the old black male vs the young black male2, and the young black male against the old black male. You must use the dark skin slaves vs the light skin slaves and the light skin slaves vs the the dark skin slaves. You must use the female slave vs the male slave, and the male slave vs the female slave. You must also have your white servants and overseers distrust all blacks, but it is necessary that your slaves trust and depend on us but they must love, respect, and trust only us. Gentlemen, these kits are your keys to control, use them. Have your wives and children use thme. Never miss an opportunity. If used correctly for one year, the slaves themselves will remain perpetually distrustful.

Thank you Gentlemen

In 2012 these public executions serve the purpose of reminding the Amerikan slaves who's da boss.

Cardinal Principles For Making A Negro
For fear that our future generations may not understand the principles of breaking both horses and men, we lay down the art. For, if we are to sustain our basic economy we must break and tie both of the beasts togher, the nigger and the horse. We understand that short range planning in economics results in preiodic economic choas; so that, to avoid turmoil in the economy, it requires us to have breadth and depth in long rang comprehensive planning, articulating both skill and sharp perception.
We lay down the following principles for long range comprehensive economic planning:

Both the horse and nigger are no good to the economy in the wild or natural state.
Both must be broken and tied together for orderly production.
For orderly futures, special and particular attention must be paid to the female and young offspring.
Both must be crossbred to produce a variety a division of labor.
Both must be taught to respond to peculiar new language.
Psychological and physical institutions of containment must be created for both.
We hold the above six cardinal principles as truths to be self-evident3, based on the following discourses concerning the economics of breaking and tying the horse and nigger together-all inclusive of the six prinicples laid down above.

NOTE: Neither principle alone will suffice for good economics. All principles must be employed for the orderly good of the nation...

...both the horse and the nigger must be broken; that is, break them from one form of mental life to another-keep the body and take the mind. In other words, break the will to resist. Now the breaking process is the same for both the horse and the nigger, only slightly varying in degrees. But as we said before, there is an art in long range economic planning. You must keep your eye and thoughts on the female and the offspring of the horse and the nigger...

Take the meanest and most restless nigger, strip him of his clothes in front of the [other] male nigger, the female, and the nigger infant, tar and feather him, tie each leg to a different horse faced in opposite directions, set him afire and beat both horses to pull him apart in front of the remaining nigger. The next step is to take a bull whip and beat the remaining nigger male to the point of death in front of the female and the infant. Don't kill him, but put the fear of God in him, for he can be useful for future breeding.

The Breaking Process of the African Woman
...In her natural uncivilized state she would have a strong dependency on the uncivilized nigger male, and she would have a limited protective tendency toward her independent male offspring and would raise the female offspring like her...We had reversed nature by burning and pulling one uncivilized nigger apart and bull whipping the other to the point of death-all in her presence. By her being left alone unrpotected, with the male image destroyed, the ordeal caused her to move from her psychological dependency state to a frozen independent state. In this frozenpsychological state of independence, she will raise her male and female offspring in reversed roles. For fear of the young male's life, she will psychologically train him to be mentally weak and dependent but physically strong...You've got the nigger woman out from and the nigger man behind and scared. This is a perfect situation for sound sleep and good economics...

(I've ommited some lines, paragraphs, and pages from the pamphlet, but I think you get the picture. I'd originally planned on typing the whole thing, but I began to get nauseous.)

Guaranteed until 2012. Then what?

It's also important that we follow your example and ignore those questions and leap to the conclusion that puts people we don't know but who are part of a group you don't like in the worst possible light.

I'm glad it was not my city or police involved. If they'd come a little more south I'd have a first hand interest. I'm wondering why the cruiser videos are not out yet, most of these questions could be answered by video.

Oojie, on a local level there's one leash left, and in this county we managed to really improve police behavior by yanking on it.
The BUDGET.

Now, in Detroit, one of the problems is that the police, fire and EMT budgets are consolidated into a single "Public Safety" budget, which the police pick clean for high living and stuff like their posh casino HQ, leaving firefighters and EMTs without sufficient staff or even working vehicles and equipment - and when attempts are made to fix that by putting more $$ in, the police just loot it more and the cycle begins anew.

Not so, over here, they're seperate things - when I first moved out here the local police were not well behaved and the night shift in particular was so offensively racist they would randomly beat up minorities on a whim, which had gone on till they prettymuch outright murdered one that way and stuck us with a seven figure lawsuit - which came out of OUR hide, not theirs, and so we'd had enough.

We decided THEY were gonna feel the sting too, cause we were gonna cut their budget, and they responded with the usual fear and intimidation attempts, up to and including vaguely threatening editorials in the local paper, which backfired cause it was their attitude which tipped over enough support at the polls for that cut to pass.
They went BERSERK over this, upping traffic "enforcement" (cause, yanno, revenue) till it bordered on shakedown and harrassment, and started to badly negatively impact local business owners, and enraged the community enough that they retaliated with a second, harder cut, this one worded with specific options for potential further cuts in response to misbehavior without needing a full on vote, and passed it by a sound margin.

The cops then raided a very large charity poker game under flimsy pretenses and not only took the venues money, they even made everyone in the building turn out their pockets and kept THAT (asset forfeiture) and this time there was no vote, the cut came down IMMEDIATELY thereafter, and finally it got through their thick damn heads that if they went down this road they were going to find themselves in the unemployment line, since it *is* possible for us to dissolve them and hire it out to a PMC or contract security, who'd be even more accountable than them for their behavior.

And suddenly it all turned around, they took those assholes who could not behave off the streets and put them to guarding the courthouse, under the watchful eye of Internal Affairs, and filled the ranks with younger, more idealistic folk right out of the academy who hadn't yet been corrupted completely, refined their use of force policy and changed their priorities a little bit - not cause they wanted to, but because they HAD to...

See, when you have all the tech and the war toys and all that rot, when you have the big hammer, every problem starts lookin like a nail, but take that away, and they HAVE to fall back on old school policing, and this also FORCED them to communicate and work with the communities, which some of those officers found to be an uplifting rather than depressing experience given that these people AREN'T all just perps waiting to happen, sure there's plenty, but there's also retired autoworkers, single mothers, blue collar grunts just trying to get by, people who will work WITH you, who care about their community - provided they do not see the man behind that badge as an enemy looking to harm them, and the two officers who went round the "bad" neighborhood talking, and more importantly LISTENING, to these people, did a world of good on that front.

They know how to "buy" cred with me too - the folks they've set to catch the extremely dumbass burglars we get round here are damn good at it, and flushing them out means less hassle for me, as the podunk little community me and mine protect is right across the street from the "bad" neighborhood and has a white-line-truce with the long established neighborhood crooks - there's NOTHING here worth crossing the street for, the folks who rent here make around 30K max, and crossing that white line on this side of the road will result in me getting bitterly territorial about it, so...
Funny that one police patrol contingency plan involves deliberately chasing a perp over here and letting that happen while they wait for backup, jerks.

We have a kind of on-off relationship with em, less cooperative than it should be cause I've chased them out of here a couple times for coming on our property on quota day looking for stuff like out of date license plates or whatnot, a general fishing expedition kinda thing they got no right to, as this is private property and my job is to ENFORCE those rights, even against the boys in blue, up to and including full "engagement" if necessary.
(The latter is me personally, rather than the crew, for legal reasons, but if the cops push the matter, it's my job to push back as hard as legally possible, regardless of personal risk - which is WHY I get paid substantially more)

While it could work better, it does work well, since my job is to stomp on a problem BEFORE it becomes a crisis, whereas their job is to come clean up the mess when it's all over, more or less - suits me well enough cause hell if I wanna pat down a perp or haul them down to central booking, right ?

Of course, they do strain at the leash - last time around they got a measure on the ballot attempting to consolidate the police, fire and EMT budgets for some contrived reason of efficiency, thinking that we'd be less quick with the axe if fire and ambulance service was under it too.
NOT happening.

Oh, and the Sheriff was *pissed*, he's a jackass with the notion that cannabis should never, ever be legal for any purpose, and has gone on record threatening to continue arresting people even if it was fully legalized... well, we made possession of an ounce or less OFFICIALLY the "lowest priority of law enforcement" on the ballot, which passed by 75-80%...
He them IMMEDIATELY sent every cop he had to bust everyone they could for possession, trying to make himself a statement, to which WE handed him our own statement, that we could recall his ass by exactly that margin if he didn't sit down and STFU - which he did.

So really, it's all about the leash, and if you've no OTHER way to bring them to heel, follow the money, and start strangling THAT pipeline.
They will sit up, beg, roll over like good little puppys, all quick-like, believe it.

Horse shit, Zero.

I ain't ignoring the questions at all, I am pressing them like a stake to the heart, cause they OWE the public answers on this one, and should be held accountable for their actions be the problem negligence or intent.
I can see calling the chase as negligence, but a hundred plus shots fired in the vicinity of residential neighborhoods is INEXCUSABLE, and the friendly fire problem indicates a serious training problem besides.

I didn't put them in the worst possible light, they did, with their own conduct - and now they must face the consequences of not only their own actions, but of further demeaning a profession that desperately needs a thorough auditing of training, procedure, and conduct, which frankly serves YOU as well as the community, so don't shine me about this.

As for the cruiser cam, while of course I am suspicious of a little creative editing going on (and for the record I am against police having acccess whatever to those, preferring an independant review board) there's also that I am all too well aware how bloody hard it is to reconstruct what the hell happened from 10+ cruiser cams in a confused situation which may also involve technical issues of varying formats and potential equipment failure - plus we BOTH know damn well if there is anything incriminating in them they WILL sit on it for as long as possible, throw the lightest possible discipline at those involved and then try to present it as a fait accompli to the public.

Nor should either of us try and pretend there's no bias, I have one and damn good reasons for it, not to mention personal/financial interest, and so too do you - on top of an obligatory personal animosity caused by the conflict of Harmony versus Order as a means of social adaptation.
Also, don't you know when to cut and run ?

I mean, you as a prosecutor tend to only push cases you know you have in the bag, and you HAVE to know there's no "win" for you here, no amount of innocence or stupidity is going to buy them off of this one with the public, they WILL want their pound of flesh, and in stepping forward trying to defend the indefensible (and isn't that the public defenders job, neh?) here you are offering yours, allowing someone like me to tear a long bloody strip off you about it despite this being OBVIOUS shmuck bait for you.
Tsk, you should know better.

I swear, it's like clubbing baby seals...

Zero, you don't have a lot of room to talk about lynch mentality when you work for a justice and legal system proven to have failed the Constitutional Standard in just about every way possible, and specifically one so twisted and corrupt it could give Detroit a run for its money.

As for your amusing offer to volunteer to sabotage the prosecution of your buddies, wellll...
That'd require a level of credibility and trust neither you nor your local legal system have.

Nope, USDOJ is coming back to settle up on this one, and there's a lot of HISTORY there, regarding them and the department in question... ain't there, Zero ?
Was I in your shoes I'd be distancing myself, cause you know it rolls downhill and you don't wanna get caught in the splash, do you now - that'd be kinda tragic in an ironic sorta way.

As for "innocence", there's a DIFFERENCE between being LEGALLY "innocent" and MORALLY so.
Case in point that prick Zimmerman, who may well be LEGALLY "innocent" of second degree murder, but has utterly no MORAL ground to stand on from the moment he pursued a matter after being told to stand down.

With this situation, every single officer who fired so much as a single round in this is grossly, criminally negligent at the VERY least, from a moral perspective - and *IF* one held them to the same standard as an ordinary CCW holder, legally as well, right on that alone.
When you pull a trigger and send a chunk of lead screaming through the air at lethal speed, you have a moral duty to make very fucking SURE that you've proper cause and a damn good viable reason to do so, as well as a duty to make sure you're not recklessly endangering other people not involved.
And that is mind you, a minimum standard for a CCW holder - Police should be held to a HIGHER, not lower, standard than that.

Those who did not fire also had a responsibility to rein in their overzealous coworkers, but that's so rare it's almost mythological, and the force in general tends to "make an example" of them when it happens.

So from a moral/ethical perspective, there's no wiggle room in this - that there is within our legal system is a necessary check and balance due to a presumption of innocence which is rarely applied to us citizens yet always applied to cops, exposing at every time both the crucial flaws and blatant hypocrisy within the system you chose to work for.

If a private citizen chased another in this fashion, guns-a-blazing, we wouldn't even be having this conversation about it, would we now ?

Probably not. Then again if a private citizen put a light on their car and drove too fast in response to an emergency...that'd be illegal too.

If a private citizen put on a police uniform and went around telling people they were police and trying to enforce the law...that'd be illegal.

Police and fire do a lot of things private citizens don't do.

That's like saying we'd never eat hamburgers if a cow was a bird. A cow is not a bird, a private citizen is not a police officer.

Have I prosecuted police before? Yes. More then once? Yes. Traffic offense? Yes. OVI? Yes. Domestic Violence? Yes. Have I ever lost a case against a police officer? No. Cops are people first they break the law I go after them, same as anybody.

Hell, sent a policeman to jail for DV once...after he got out union forced us to rehire him (even though his DV conviction precluded him from being a police officer or carrying a gun, dude got office duty till he retired a couple years ago). You want to clean up govt, start with the unions.

Annnnd, he walks right into it, again.

Constitutionally, they ARE private citizens - it is only through deliberate abuse and misinterpretation of the law to create what more or less amounts to a Caste System that allows them to engage in conduct what should, ultimately, be illegal for everyone.

See, that's the funny thing with rights, they're universal - either they apply to EVERYONE, or they apply to NO ONE.
Anything other than that is Tyranny.

Your attempt to dance around that little fact does your cause no favors.

All police are, is private citizens given extra training and equipment, and that by itself isn't too much to be concerned about with proper oversight - it's when extra "RIGHTS" come into play that you exponentially feed a potential for corruption till it becomes an all consuming fire and you wind up with a Mafia on your hands, which is an accurate assessment by their conduct on a greater scale.

And is isn't Government, per se, which needs cleaning up as much as the morons who carry out their orders, because without anyone to carry out corrupt orders, politicians can't do very much harm.
If someone ordered to engage in immoral conduct has the moral decency to stand there and refuse, or even stand up to it, that's a check and balance too - and it's one folks like YOU helped remove.

The cases of Regina Tasca, and Ramon Perez indicate quite clearly what *happens* when an officer stands up for their duty to a community over and above the blue brotherhood, and those are far from the only examples.
http://freedominourtime.blogspot.com/2012/04/officer-regina-tasca-goes
-rogue.html

There's also the unresolved, in my opinion, question of the Constitionality of police themselves.
ARE COPS CONSTITUTIONAL?
http://constitution.org/lrev/roots/cops.htm
Section 722 is a particular sore spot with me.

Might be worth remembering that initially, back before the county police cleaned up their act, I was hired in part to protect this place FROM the police, including protecting our property rights and/or acting as an official witness to misconduct, as they had a nasty habit of trolling this place in "fishing expeditions" for excuses to write tickets and whatnot.

They did learn to leave well the hell enough alone unless called, since there's other, easier prey which is less well defended, and THAT type of conduct doesn't do any favors for my opinion of em either.

You wanna square that circle, you put a goddamn LEASH on the badge bearing chain dogs and get them to ACT like professionals instead of a greedy, vicious, bloodthirsty mob - cause as I told one plainclothes officer I ran out of here cause he was acting suspicious...
If you LOOK like a crook, ACT like a crook, imma *TREAT* you like a damn crook.

Hello,

I'm pretty sure that chasing cars with guns blazing is against the procedure of virtually all police departments outside of Hollywood films.

In this particular case, the sheer volume of fire directed at the vehicle is staggering and difficult to defend.

So I'm not sure the question is whether these officers were wrong, but rather how wrong were they?

What's been handed down so far barely amounts to a slap on the wrist for the 63 officers being punished. The maximum suspension is only 10 days. Their supervisors appear to have fared worse, with one firing and two demotions.

Care to take bets whether that single firing even sticks, when the wagon circling mafia of the police unions, FOP, and whatnot get involved, that they won't likely wait till the flap blows over and quietly reinstate em ?

I'd have fired the whole goddamn department on the spot, cause an incident like this is clear proof the rot is systemic, institutional and thorough.

In an act of karmic justice which would have been entertaining but for the openly displayed malice towards the people they supposedly protect, and the waste of tax money, the police in Mongomery County down in Texas managed to crash their new drone into their own SWAT team...

It's actually still pretty funny.

As usual, slap on wrist, no real consequences, nothing to see, move along, move along...
And without accountability, the behavior of the badges just becomes ever more monstrous with every passing day.

Still not the worst thing I've heard of the police doing and getting off scott free lately... Which is a sad sign of the times.
