A major donor to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was convicted in federal court Wednesday of making illegal campaign contributions in 2007, but Reid was not implicated in the case.

A federal jury in Reno, Nev., found developer Harvey Whittemore guilty on three counts of making campaign contributions in the name of someone else and causing a false statement to be made to the Federal Election Commission, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday. The jury was unable to reach a verdict on a fourth charge of lying to the FBI.

The case involved the illegal funneling of $150,000 to Reid's 2007 re-election campaign through Whittemore family members and employees at a real-estate development company where he worked. According to testimony in the case, employees were asked to contribute to the majority leader's re-election effort and then Whittemore reimbursed them for their contributions.

Whittemore remains free on his own personal recognizance until his sentencing Sept. 23, when he could face up to 15 years in prison and as much as $750,000 in fines.

The Journal reported that Reid's office did not respond to a request for comment

Of course the esteemed Senator didn't know anything about it, and has no comment beyond that. $150,000 from one family company....nah, nothing to notice there. Besides, he's a busy guy, what with all that Cowboy Poetry funding legislation to write.

One good thing about him he called out the Koch Brothers? as "un-American" and "rigging the political system in their favor". He is the first member of the Mormon Church of Latter-day Saints to become Senate Majority Leader, Reid converted to Mormonism while attending the frat brotherhood parties at Utah State University? He also had a long-time pirate news style interest in UFOs, then in 2005, Reid earmarked a corrupt spending bill to provide for building a bridge between Nevada and Arizona that would make land that only he owned more valuable. Reid called funding for the construction of a bridge over the Colorado River, among other projects, "incredibly good news for Nevada" but even better for Harry Reid's bank accounts? Whittemore served a two-year prison sentence after being found guilty in 2013 of funneling $133,400 in illegal contributions to Reid's reelection campaign.
