“They’re just wrapping up a job when they get a call from an old friend who is in desperate need of their help, and things get complicated pretty quickly.”

Hmmm. Who can this "old friend" be? I'm gonna guess Amnon. Some people think Saffron. Hmmm.

Con Man cast teases a potential Firefly reunion for season 2

The cast of Con Man hit the Entertainment Weekly Lounge at Comic-Con on Thursday, following the successful debut of the show’s first trailer at Comic-Con (and here on EW.com). But there’s even more good news coming for fans of stars Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion: a possibly Firefly cast reunion in season 2.

During an interview with EW’s Marc Snetiker, Tudyk — who also wrote and directed Con Man — revealed that he had potential roles in mind for his erstwhile co-stars Adam Baldwin, Ron Glass and Morena Baccarin.

That article is from a year ago. I think season 2 is in post production right now, I wonder if they were able to get everyone back together for it.

Kinda figure that would be a bit hard to keep quiet if they did.

Not in the usual sense. Of course not.

But remember Khan to Kirk?

"Kirk? Kirk, you're still alive, my old friend?"

All depends on how you look at it.

Okay. Judging from this article, probably not Saffron. But it does say that it's a female friend that needs help:

Serenity: No Power in the ’Verse finds Malcolm Reynolds and his crew struggling through some difficult times. Tensions are at an all-time high when the crew receives a call to help find a missing friend. The crew must come together to discover the answers to her mysterious disappearance. Will they find her in time?

I think you're right!

TV Tropes called Bea a “canon foreigner”. The comic needs a Jayne/Bea relationship for the next 6 issue miniseries because what else but sex would keep Jayne on Serenity when Mal cannot pay anybody? Jayne/River or Jayne/Zoe are unbelievable since River and Zoe aren’t stupid or desperate while Bea was crazy enough to go looking for Mal and all the problems that search caused.

The cover art is always superior to the interior art. I've often wondered if the actors have to be paid if their likeness is used, and making the interior art less identifiable is a way of limiting how much they are compensated.

"The fact is, a guest star on a TV show can [get] around $10,000, whereas you can work two days at a convention and pull in the same amount — and sometimes double and triple that," says Firefly actress Jewel Staite, who did 12 conventions last year while pregnant with her son and, as she says, "pretty much not hireable." She'll do the same when she has a second child. "Have I turned down smaller jobs that won't pay as much? Absolutely. It would be silly of me to say yes to the job that pays $10,000 for a week of work and bow out of a big convention where I could potentially walk away with $40,000 in two days."

Adds Staite, "My actor friends are always saying how much they're dying for a genre show just to break into the convention world."

When you wrote “I've often wondered if the actors have to be paid if their likeness is used, and making the interior art less identifiable is a way of limiting how much they are compensated,” I thought it best to treat it as if you were making a joke about the quality of the art. But you’re serious. OK. My serious answer:

Dark Horse Comics pays FOX for Serenity. I believe FOX pays none of the money to Firefly actors.

Jewel Staite was forthright about her pay from comic book conventions. It somebody tweeted her about her pay from FOX for comic books, I bet she would tweet back something humorous and sarcastic about FOX’s stingy contract terms: “FOX paid me $0.00 times two hundred fifty thousand comics sold since 2005. I’ve already gone to the trouble of multiplying and then converting between currencies. That’s $0.00 in Canadian or US dollars.” https://twitter.com/JewelStaite

Nathan Fillion probably makes the same rate per comic book as Jewel.
https://twitter.com/NathanFillion

No need to ask Alan Tudyk or Ron Glass. They’re dead in comics. But maybe their ghosts get paid? The ghosts made guest star appearances in the Free Comic Book Day 2016 “Serenity-The Warrior and the Wind (2016).cbr” at www.mediafire.com/folder/1uwh75oa407q8/Firefly

Why didn't you just say "I don't know"?

But I do know. I don’t have to read the Firefly contracts to know what is in them because I know what a bastard Rupert Murdoch of FOX is. This guy is Scrooge.

The Firefly actors signed a release giving their rights to FOX or else they would not have been hired:

AUTHORIZATION TO REPRODUCE PHYSICAL LIKENESS AND/OR VOICE

I hereby irrevocably grant to __________________ (herein “Producer”) and any parent, subsidiary and affiliated corporations and their respective successors, assigns, licensees, employees and agents, the right in perpetuity thoughout the universe, and in all now known and hereafter existing media, and in any language, to use my name (including any fictitious names heretofore or hereafter used by me), physical likeness and/or voice in and in connection with the production, exhibition, exploitation, merchandising, advertising and promotion of the motion picture tentatively entitled ___________ (the “Picture”).

I represent to the best of my knowledge that the consent of no other persons, firm corporation or labor organization is required to enable Producer to use my name, likeness and/or voice as described herein and that such use will not violate the rights of any third parties.

I acknowledge that nothing herein requires Producer to use my likeness and/or voice as described herein or in connection with the Picture.

The rights granted herein include the right to use the Picture or excerpts or stills form the Picture (include excerpts or stills containing my likeness and/or voice) in any other motion picture, publication, recording, or other medium and includes the right to edit, delete, and/or juxtapose (with any other part of the Picture), any part of the Picture in which I appear, and/or change the sequence of events in the Picture.

All rights, title and interest in and to the results and proceeds of the services and performances rendered by me in connection with the production of the Picture or any portion therefor shall, from its inception, be the sole property of Producer, free from any claim whatsoever by me or any other person.

This agreement contains the full and complete understanding between the parties and supersedes all prior agreements and understandings pertaining hereto and cannot be modified except by writing signed by each party.

I hereby certify and represent that I am of legal age and have every right to contract in my own name in connection with this Release, and that I have read the foregoing and fully understand the meaning and effect thereof, and intending to be legally bound I have signed this Authorization this ________ day of ____________________, 2001.

Haven't bought any comics in quite a while, since the last Serenity one or when I gave up on Buffy, whichever of those events came last. So I don't have a regular pull at the comic store, and they were already sold out when I stopped by about 2:30. They took my name and said they should get some more next Wednesday. Went to the only other comic store in town and the guy there looked at me like he didn't know what I was talking about. They are mainly a used book store, and might only order specific titles requested by their regulars.

For a price you can read it on-line at

The price is $3.99, but I got a $2 store credit for some unknown reason, reducing the price to $1.99. Maybe everybody gets a store credit?

You can also pre-order the paper versions to be mailed to your house at
www.darkhorse.com/Search/Serenity

Or wait many months for the hardcover book (HC) collecting all the issues.

I've been thinking about the best reading order too. Here are my thoughts, but I'm very open to suggestions. Spoiler warning! You can infer some comic book spoilers, if you haven't read them.

Firefly, the original TV show (2002)
Natural starting place. In DVD order, of course.

Dead or Alive, writer's draft of unfilmed episode (2002)
Who knows how much of this would have made it, but if you're going to read this, this is where that story would have gone.

Better Days, 3 issue comic series (2008) & Downtime, single issue comic (2010)
I’ve seen a chronology suggest these could even be before the series ends, but I like them after. At the very least, to me, Wash’s relaxed/supportive attitude about Zoe & Mal makes it feel like they should happen after War Stories. The significant Simon & Inara interaction in Better Days is most interesting to me if it happens partially in response to Mal in Heart of Gold. Book having an idea of what River was up to in Downtime is most believable after Objects in Space. I don’t see why it would matter which of the two you read first.

Those Left Behind, 3 issue comic series (2005)
Starting to leave the series behind and set up the movie.

The Other Half, single issue comic (2008)
Other chronologies I’ve read put this before Those Left Behind, but I think it must be after. For one, Inara and Book are absent. Also, River isn’t part of the heist in Those Left Behind, which I think doesn’t make sense after this.

River Tam Sessions, movie teasers (2005)
Chronologically this would go before the series, but I like it here. Mostly to get me jazzed for the movie.

Serenity, the movie (2005)
Next logical step.

The Shepherd's Tale, graphic novel (2010) & Float Out, single issue comic (2010)
Since these are both separate narratives, for the most part not impacting the main story, I'd put them right after the movie, where I think they have the greatest emotional impact. I think this is the right spot for Float Out chronologically anyhow.

It’s Never Easy, Free Comic Book day comic (2012)
I guess this could technically be after the movie and before Float Out, but I like it better here, leaving Zoe’s reveal in Float Out, as intended.

Leaves on the Wind, six issue comic series (2014)
Clearly written in a post Serenity movie world. Has to be after Float Out and It’s Never Easy too. Because of Emma.

The Warrior and the Wind, Free Comic Book day comic (2016)
Needs to happen after Leaves on the Wind. Again, because of Emma.

No Power in the ‘Verse, six issue comic series (first issue just came out yesterday)
Deals with events post Leaves on the Wind

Yeah. I liked this issue. Only thing is the last series the first issue was better paced than the rest of the series too, and escalated much too fast to operative psychic ambushes and shooting off the pursuit of 40 prison guards during a high security jail break.

Last series was okay, but the pacing issue kinda killed it for me. Lets see if they can reign in the impulse to go over the top this time. It's comic books, so that's not likely, but better days didn't go too bad.

MOOSE

That's one of the reasons I wait until they release the hardcover compilations, if I buy the regular comics I feel compelled to collect all of the variant covers.

Just read issue #2. Won't give anything away, but glad my favorite eating place is still around 500 years from now! (Love those golden arches)

Sooo, knowing River the way we do, should she have sensed something was amiss right now? And why did Ophelia take the chance, knowing what River was capable of? And why is it I'm so full of questions??

I need ask no questions other than "Does River get to kick heads and punch throats?" Yes, she does. That can't be a spoiler, can it? Because that is even on the cover painting by Dan Dos Santos for issue #2.

This was probably my favorite issue so far. I have two observations. One, is Zoe being a bit too harsh with Jayne these days? Jayne's just trying to do right by Emma, but Zoe keeps knocking him down for no obvious reason.
Two, was Iris about to hit on Kaylee on this page? Or am I missing something?

What do you think she was gonna say before the doorbell rang?

Also, anyone thinking what I'm thinking about this red-haired 'companion'. Is someone up to their old tricks?
