I suppose this isn't too bad, considering that I'm 37 and have never had this problem before.

The game: City of Heroes.

Why I'm addicted: It's Superheroes! I can make big, wall-like heroes that stand there and hit things. Go ahead, hit me. I'll hit you back.

If anyone else is playing CoH, look for me, okay? I'm on the Triumph server as the Fuscia Femme and I have 2 characters on the Champion server. The Sinistr Sidekik and my newly created "Hero of Canton." (you have to have the period on the end of that one or you'll never find me) :-)

Okay, have to run. The Fifth Collumn is taking over Steel Canyon....My city needs me.

My fiance and i play City of Heroes. We both have a ton of characters spead out on all the servers. Mostly we play on Freedom though. Can't remember which characters we have on Triumph at the moment. Next time i play i'll let you know. We've been taking a little time off from playing it due to not getting much else done, heh

I want to get City of Heroes too! I think walking around town dressed as a superhero and using my special powers would be soooo fun. I loved the glimpse I got of the game on XPlay. however, I have an addictive personality and could ruin my life by spending all my time out there.

Last year I was addicted to KOTR.

Here's what I'm gonna do: Once you're at 10th level you can form a "Super Group". It may be a while, but I want to get the Hero of Canton. up to 10 and then I'll set up an SG for us Firefly fans. Was thinking of Browncoats or better yet The Big Damn Heroes. Hmmmm...Actually, I'd probably have to call it the Big Darn Heroes. They're pretty strict about language use on the servers.

It'll be a while anyway. I don't play that character very often right now. Anyone interested in that Super Group, though, it'll be on the Champion server.

I haven't bought Heroes because I've been engaged with Everquest for years now, and I can only handle one online RPG at a time. I was wondering, though, how the game plays-- in EQ there are a lot of wandering monsters, some quests, and special group "missions" (if you've purchased the proper upgrade). I can't imagine that model working too well for a super-hero game, except the group missions, which in EQ are highly structured. How does Heroes play (not that I need more distractions from my writing at the moment)?

Oh, bugger! Now I have to wait for someone to wake up!

I have nothing to compare it to, actually. Never played Everquest or anything remotely close to it. My husband had a trial version of Everquest and was so frustrated with its user-unfriendliness that he didn't buy it and bought CoH instead.

CoH is a very easy game to use. If it was complicated, there is no way I'd be even remotely interested. The extent of my pc gaming before this was Bejeweled, Poppit, and Rocket Mania. So for those who love complex pc games, it may not be the way to go. You may very well want to find a friend who has it and try it out before forking out the cash for it.

As someone who's favorite role-playing genre is super heroes, however, I can tell you that it's awesome. I love the character creation process and it's just really fun to hit things.

Let me try to focus my question.

1. Is the environment dynamic-- does it change according to events that occur or player actions? Most EQ servers are not-- the same monsters wander an area (no matter how many you kill), and each city/zone remains in the control of one faction (humans, orcs, etc). I recall there is one server for EQ that is dynamic, but its a premium service.

2. Are there super-villains? Can't be a decent super-hero game without villains worthy of your fist in their face. More generally, what sort of obstacles do you have to overcome as a hero? That leads to question 3--

3. Is there a discernible plot? EQ alledgedly has one, but you can only see it in bits and pieces over a long span of time, usually whenever they make some major change to the servers (a painful process).

Sorry to bombard you, but I was looking longingly at Heroes the other day and wondering if it might not be my next addiction....

My hubby had played EQ since it first came out - he cancelled his subscription because he likes CoH so much better! It is a pretty awesome game - very fun to just sit back and watch, too. I always HATED EQ, but CoH - that I don't mind.

And the character development part of it is truely crazy! If you're not careful, you'll waste all day just creating a character! That's all I've ever done, though, is create characters. Haven't actually played, 'cause I'm just too much of a loner for that .

I love CoH- Someone (I think Deloria?) started this thread before though- It's going to be awesome when they expand it, and get the capes in-

I'm on the Protector server. I've got two characters: The Arm Of The Law, a level 21 scrapper, and Prof. Membrane, a level 20 controller. Yes, I'm addicted, and yes my hours of play are up near 200.
