Acrush is China's all-girl boy band.

Acrush's androgynous look is bucking centuries-old norms in a society where girls strive to look feminine and act demurely.

Marketed by sports brand Fantasy Football Confederation (FFC), the five women - aged 18 to 24 - held their first news conference in Beijing on Friday as their first single "Action" was released.

The letter 'A' in the band's name is a reference to the god Adonis - the archetype of youthful male beauty in Greek mythology.

It's not the first time Chinese music agents have had the idea of forming a gender-neutral act. Acrush is one of several bands under the FFC brand, which aims to be a pioneer in sports entertainment by mixing sports with music and dance.

I think it could be interesting if girls developed a crush on one of the band members only to find out that they were ... ah ... women. Or developed a crush on them even AFTER knowing they were women. Because they represent what "boys" are supposed to represent in that society.

Did I say that it would be a BAD thing if a girl developed a crush on a woman who represented boldness, energy, and social authority?

OR IS THAT YOUR OWN BIASES TALKING?

Actually, I said it would be ... what was that word I used, again? ... interesting. In fact, I can't think of a better way to get girls to aspire to something more than by being inspired by women who behave independently. Or at least who SEEM to behave independently, although this may be nothing more than good old-fashioned capitalism at work.

One of the things I always thought was stupid in the "integration" movement here in the USA is taking "underprivileged" students from one school and plonking them into an "overpriviledged" student body. If you REALLY want white children to accept blacks, what you do is staff your white schools with black TEACHERS and black PRINCIPALS. Yanno, black people in authority. Black people that the white students have to place in some sort of category other than "inferior". And, you have to start young.

If you want girls to see that they can be more, you have to give THEM examples of women who are "more", or at least seem "more".

Wow, you ARE a douche, KRAPO! (And that is an insult to douches everywhere, which- unlike you- actually perform a useful function.)
