This topic of Innocence is contentious between Political Parties.

The GOP was founded upon fighting the inherent unfairness of Slavery. And has consistently supported that the Innocent be Free, whether newborn Innocent children, or those Innocent of Crime.
But a Cadre of Good Old Boys have worked to steer the mantra of Law and Order to mean railroading some Innocent, like a complicated Injustice version of Democrat Lynchings.

Some Liberals have made inroads into Hearts of the Public with pursuits such as the Innocence Project. And Old Boys of both Parties have resisted.

Now Trump has reportedly been exonerated, or not found to be guilty following a Witch Hunt. But now the Fake News have pivoted to other avenues of Fake Guilt, without pause or reflection.
As if there is no such thing as Presumption of Innocence. And the spoon-fed public seems content to follow along.

It is as if the concept of Innocence has evaporated from the public mindset.

Like Freedom of Speech, I had long assumed Presumption of Innocence was not solely the purview of America. I have known that Presumption of Guilt is the norm in many places in the world, where there are no Freedoms, and no Speech is ever truly Free. In many places the Police really are the Bad Guys - always, without exception.
I only relatively recently understood that Freedom of Speech is almost exclusively American, present only in These United States.

One facet I had issue with, regarding Gov Walker of WI, was his move to disband the Pardon Board.
The only positive facet I have heard, so far, of the new Gov Evers reign, is his consideration of granting Pardons.
One such potential Pardon at the forefront is that of Lawrencia Bembenek.
Although she passed in 2010, the fact that she remains on the list of Convicted continues to be a Black Stain upon the fabric of Justice in the State of Wisconsin. I know full well there is rampant Injustice and railroading in many Counties throughout the State, continuing unabated.
But this particular case allows that Black Stain to also taint the Legacy of Scott Walker.

I am certain that Gov Evers will endeavor to Pardon an Army of his Drug Dealing Buddies.
But I can hope that he will also entertain the possibility of correcting the Convictions of the Innocent, those who did not commit the crimes they were Convicted of.

Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey are others who might fall under this umbrella.

Demonstrated inability to comprehend the topic of the thread. Big surprise, but it's not about her anal stretching exploration adventures, so she gets confused.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Most people on this board have no idea about "presumption of innocence". They confuse allegation with evidence, and facts merely get in the way of their righteousness. The justice system is far too slow for them, what they want is mob rule.

I blame the media for this. The LAST thing that advertisers want is a rational
audience, people who set their feelings aside and weigh argumments. Politicians also don't want a rational audience; in fact demagogues and salespeople of all stripes hate the rational person; what they want is someone who is ruled by their emotions so that they can manipulate those desires and fears to sell them ... a loan, a beer, a politican, a war ... slavery ...

I hope that your governor will consider justice as part of his duties and pardon those who deserve to be pardoned.

In the early 90s I learned that kids were already being taught that the words Prejudice and Discrimination were the same word, they had the same meaning, there was no difference between them.

Redefining words was the beginning of that slippery slope.
