But entire franchises are being torn down and rebuilt and in not a flattering manner either. Of course, there is the reeducation of our own history going on here in the US as well in Europe. That could probably be it’s own thread. But in pop culture, we have everything from Star Wars, Star Trek. Doctor Who, and most if not all TV shows or movies. Add the Banana Splits to the list of bastardized shows. No longer are the four musical instrument playing animal characters a dopey offbeat parity of the Beatles, they have been turned into maniacal bloodthirsty monsters on a Syfy channel movie. I suppose some director or executive thought that was clever and comedic, but instead it just came off as extremely cringe. There’s probably two generations now removed from the original show who have no idea who these characters are, but now this is how they first get introduced to them? What the hell is going on here? Across-the-board familiar characters and storylines are being repackaged and crafted to almost universally negative and unrecognizable versions of their former selves. I can’t imagine that this is being driven by they need or desire from fans to see this. It’s just lazy riding where people take establish characters and then tear them down or turn them into cartoons of them selves. Furthermore, Disney has decided to lock up virtually every old movie it has the rights to so that they can never be shown in a theatre.. That means Alien , for example, cannot be shown in the theater anymore. And the list of movies is very long. Why would Disney want to do that? Oh sure, you can go out and buy those and play them on your home device, but that’s about the only way you’ll ever see them. They will no longer appear on any streaming service or on-demand.

It was tied up in rights by Weinstein, he wanted to make it a comedy, with Jim Carrey. Thankfully I have not seen anything come of that horrible idea.
