Quote:A man charged Tuesday with attacking a Circle K clerk and attempting to sexually assault her was accused of a similar crime by Sanford police in June, The Rant has learned. Jeffrey Lynn Miller Jr., 28, of Maple Avenue in Sanford faces charges of first degree kidnapping, attempted first degree forcible rape, assault inflicting serious injury and interfering with emergency communications after police said he walked into the Circle K at 809 Carthage St. around 4:39 a.m. on Tuesday and began attacking the clerk and attempting to sexually assault her. Miller was reportedly trying to drag the victim, who was hospitalized with severe head trauma, into the store’s office when officers arrived and arrested him. Public records show Miller was also charged by Sanford police with second degree forcible sex offense on June 13. An arrest report is scarce on details, but indicates he was arrested at 139 N. Moore St. around 2:30 p.m. that day. He was jailed on $50,000 secured bond in connection with the June 13 charge. The outcome of that case is unclear, but a person answering the phone at the Lee County Clerk of Court’s Office said there was no record on file in that office of Miller’s June 13 arrest, indicating it was possible the charge was dismissed and expunged. Miller was jailed on $500,000 secured bond in connection with his Tuesday arrest. He remained in custody as of Thursday afternoon.
