Yeah Based on 1980 series which was based on the 1975 novel drama of the same name by James Clavell which is based on historical events.

I've read the book too. A number of years later and it was interesting. Not sure if I remember there was a someone narrating the show. It's been years as I said since I have seen the original.

This thing came on tv when I was in high school. I even watched "Centennial"

It was a great show. Very interesting with it's setting and filming around old castles and such that are still there.
