This looks great! I can't wait!

I may just have to re-read the book. The sad thing is the many people we'll have to listen to this summer who'll scream, "IT'S NOTHING LIKE THE ORIGINAL MOVIE!"

I loved the original movie and it appears to be nothing like it. There, said it first.

But, like Battlestar Galactica and some other good remakes, new does not mean bad or evil. I saw the trailor, am faithful to the original, and still am looking foreward to the new movie.

I'm just glad Hollywood is making a serious effort the last couple of years, we went for a while with little to cheer out of the movie market.

I have really been looking forward to this movie. It's too bad that was such a weird promo clip. The music reminded me of an evil dream I had at the circus. I hope that they don't plan to use that soundtrack. Horrid. This didn't look to be a whimsical willy wonka. He looked to be a demented sick wonka. I may not see this movie after all due to this clip.

If they do then they've obviously never read the original story. I love Willy Wonka - and Gene, but I'm really looking forward to seeing something that I hope is more like Dahl's book.

Of course IIRC, neither Wilder nor Depp really fit the description of Dahl's Wonka - but both can bring that "not safe" vibe that makes the story so squirmily good.

It'd be really cool if it were more like the books, I agree. I'd like to see them go into space too, and battle some vermicious knids.

The point I was making is that it's a more faithful adaptation of Roald Dahl's book, not a remake of the original film.

You can't go wrong with Tim Burton and Johnny Depp...

I've really been looking forward to this movie but the teaser trailer doesn't quite do it for me. We'll see how a real trailer does. And then the movie, because I trust trailers about as much as I trust Fox TV to keep good shows on the air.

Aww...I don't go off teasers. Though some of them ROCK beyond belief (Serenity, Hitchiker's Guide), I like waiting for official trailers, and even then I wait for the movie, especially if it's something I really want to see.

'Demented sick Wonka'

...I always thought he was demented and sick...um, is that bad? I haven't read the book, but when I was little, Gene as Wonka scared me beyond belief. Even at 13 he creeps me out, but now it's in a fun way.

Johnny as Wonka, though, makes me want to laugh. He looks so odd, yet for him, it fits.

He didn't freak me out when I was little or anything, but as an adult, in retrospect, my question is how was Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka
not creepy?
Whimsical, yes...but still creepy.
And the Oompa Loompas made me run out of the room anytime they came on the screen! They
still give me the wiggins, and all my friends mock me for it.
I think Tim Burton would be pleased that it reminded you of an evil circus dream. I think that was the point.
But that trailer looks GREAT! Veruca, what I saw of her, looks perfect! Hee heee....can't wait!

I will give in on the point that I over-reacted. I am sure regardless of ads that I will go see this movie. I loved the books and the original and johnny depp too much not to. But it still gave me the heebies. It was the music mostly though... and the purpleness

Is it just me or does the movie poster look like Willy Wonka in the Clockwork Chocolate Orange Factory?

I know, it could be just me.

The main thing that stuck with me was the music. All I heard in my head for the next hour was "Willy Wonka....Willy Wonka". Creepifying, I tell you.

But all in all, the movie itself looks pretty interesting.

yeah, the music was disturbing and the visuals overwhelming. I got a creepifying feel again watching it, but not as much as the first time. I think it's Johnny Depp's face that is making me lose my perspective on reality. He looked so plastic.

I honestly don't think that any version can top the orginal..I mean there is just something speical about the orginal movie, I only think a remake should be done if it can be done better and I don't think it can be..whats up with Tim Burton and all the remakes can't he come up with something orginal

What's up with so many remakes? Filthy lucre, that's what. A proven plot and easy financing based on the previous version's success.

And audiences who don't remember what's come before deserve a large share of the blame. Just try convincing some people that George Clooney wasn't in "Ocean's Eleven" when it first was in theaters....

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was the first movie I saw in a theater, when it first came out. Yes, I am that old. My aunt took me (this was while I was visiting her in Auckland, NZ - my family was living in Tauranga at the time), and I totally closed my eyes as soon as I saw the Oompah Loompahs, and then pretty much kept them shut through the entire movie, only peeking to be freaked out again.

Watching it again as an adult, I can understand why I was creeped, but the movie has dated. Very much so....most especially the music (and I hated, hated, hated, the kid who played Charlie, from the beginning). Gene Wilder's performance, of course, still stands the test of time, but I look forward to seeing what Johnny Depp has done.

Tim Burton has done marvelous things with his movies, and I always look forward to seeing something he's directed and/or produced. I was disappointed in Planet of the Apes, but not visually (the crappy plot and egregiously bad acting by some stuck in my craw, but it was a pretty thing).

I thought the music on the teaser was entirely appropriate - ear-wormy and annoying. That's part of the appeal, for me, to be dragged back to that dystopic childhood fantasy, over-the-top and too much input.

Again, this is NOT a remake. It's a more faithful adaptation of Roald Dahl's novel "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". Roald Dahl hated the original movie as his script was vastly rewritten.

The trailer made Johnny Depp look more like a girl. And now that goram song is stuck in my head.
