MIKEYMO

So, here's the thing. I'm about two seconds away from throwing my poor computer into the ground at a velocity that I'm sure would spell the end for this infernal machine. I'm smoking a cig and trying to calm down, and need some help with this thing. I ask (naturally) my fellow Browncoats.

I've been catching up on episodes of LOST (which, if you haven't seen it, is brilliant), and I have them as avi files on my hard drive. Things are getting a little cramped, so I was hoping to burn them onto DVDs and free up a little space.

Trouble is, the software I'm trying to use is bunk. It's ULead DVD Moviefactory 2, and though it seems able to get the episodes onto disc, it's reformatting them into standard TV frame, as opposed to widescreen (which the .avi file are). Does anyone either
a) know how to get this gorram program to burn widescreen videos (it has an aspect ratio function, but I can't access it)
b) know of a program that works?

My computer's health is dependent upon someone helping out here - I've got a short temper which can only be supplemented by cigs for so long.

Go out and get yourself Nero Ultra Edition with Nero Express. The Nero Express will make DVDs out of anything. If all else fails, you can always make a data DVD. You would have to play that in your computer but it would free up space.

Who's flying this thing....Oh right, that would be me.

I agree. MovieFactory is good for making playable disks out of movie files, but for storage Nero is the way to go. You can burn the files onto DVD to store them, then copy them back onto your hard drive to burn a disk that's playable in standard DVD players. Plus, they have a limited-time free trial download. You can use the program for a limited time, then download it again a while later (go to the website nero.com - they explain it better).

Thanks to both of you for your help.. I'm taking a look at Nero Express, and it's telling me that I need NeroVision to burn DVDs.

Obviously, this isn't something I have a lot of experience with, so any additional information would be appreciated.

Hey again MikeyMo

The best advice I can give you is to buy a few re-writable disks and play around. I don't use Nero for burning playable disks, I use MovieFactory, so I can't offer any advice. But now you've got me curious. I use my burner for home movies, which come off the camera at 4:3, so that's how they play. Is there a way to burn widescreen files so that they play widescreen? Any advice, anyone?
