Weekly World News' butchery of Serenity
Sunday, October 24, 2004

Here now is the Serenity photograph in WWN November 1 issue). Perhaps it's time for some sort of action against Weekly World News for their hijacking of a production picture for their own gain... BTW, webmasters, If I have violated rules in posting this pic, I am sorry and will accept whatever punishment required of me.

This? From the reputable news organization that brought us bat boy? And broke the news about the Osma bin Laden/Saddamn Husein/Camel love triangle?

I can't beleve it!

Maybe this is how the Compainion's Guild began?

If this is a real pic from a real Weekly World News, then they are even dumber than I thought. Thousands- no millions know what the serenity looks like, so why would they even try to pass something off this incredibly cheesy? Oh well, good work Ackerdackerly in finding this. So were these the extenders that Shepard was talking about? Actually, these engines look pretty cool.

LMGAO.. oh my... hahahaha Serenity in the tabloids LMAO

What disturbs me is the thought that people read those things - and possibly believe them. Ah well, people believe anything.

At first I was wondering what Serenity had to do with breast implants ;)

Since iRiver seems a bit skeptical about the picture being in the Weekly World News, pick up a copy at the grocery's checkout stand, turn to the bottom of Page three and there it is! Remember to put the tabloid back in the rack and go wash your hands...

I want this on a t-shirt, with the flying to pluto blurb! LOL! :P
Love the extra engines they added, looks spiffy... er shiny!
Is this a bizare form of guerilla marketing by a browncoat who works for the WWN?

LOL!!!

This is hi-larious. Guess they figured no one would recognize the pic of our beloved Serenity, regardless of how bad they butchered her.

What a crappy job. The stuff that we "amateurs" slap together is way better than this from a "professional" publication.

Updates and Factoids:

AnguaLupin:
These guys are pretty cheezy -- that is a pic of the now-deceased MIR space station overlaying the four-engined "Firefly".

Somebody at alt.tv.firefly has pointed out that the Weekly World News is actually a comedy send-up of the 'Bloids in general. The "Mad Magazine" or "Cracked" of the "National Enquirer" genre.

Me, being in the journalism biz (and apparently very much out of touch with the hi-larious side of the print media, I guess), was not aware of the true nature of WWN. Live and learn, I guess.

That's hilarious. I wonder if they can sue. I know it's a joke, but still...

I agree with the anonymous poster that said there is no such thing as bad publicity.

i posted a thread about this this morning, here is what folks need ot know about WWN(which i LOVE, other tabloids try to at least make their stories somewhat believable, NOT WWN).

From inside the front cover:
"Weekly World News articles are drawn from different sources and some are fictitious of satirical. Weekly World News uses invented namesin some stories, except where public figuresare being satirized. Any other use of real names is accidental and coincidental. The reader should suspend belief for the sake of enjoyment."

Okay, obviously the crew has fallen on hard times, and like we've heard said, you get offered a job, you might not ask too many questions about it...

So, they rented Serenity out for some moonlighting work... gotta keep her in repair, no matter what menial job it requires...

Joss' Universe desktop & argument stopper
First, my apologies for pinching this off Page 12 of "Serenity, The Official Visual Companion". Save my soul from that special place in hell for Copyright violators and people who talk in the theatre by rushing out in a buying frenzy and get this book (Beware, High spoiler content!).

That said, a cool, if not busy, desktop image of the planets of the Firefly 'verse guaranteed to settle all manner of arguments!
