I found the album thread quite interesting and was wondering what your first real concert was. I'm not talking about concerts that were part of a sporting event or a state fair--though those are fine if that's what you remember. I'm referring to your first freakin out about getting tickets and rockin' the night away waiting for the headliner to take the stage and lovin' every minute of it.

Mine was Leon Russell. Man that night was awesome. Wow. Amphitheater, sitting on the grass with all sorts of crazy folks, relaxin and learning about what those folks were smokin. I went with my dad.

Share if you'd like.

My first real concert was Tori Amos in Philly. Strangely enough, when I went to see Depeche Mode at the same venue...I had the exact same seat.

*Insert Twilight Zone music here*

Best concert? DEFINITELY Dropkick Murphys!!!

COSMICFUGITIVE

I've been to a lot of gigs over the years.

One of the best concerts I've attended was last year. It was during the MTV Europe Music Awards in the capital of Scotland.

During the awards ceremony, there was a small concert called MTV in the Gardens, which was held in Princes Street Gardens below the castle.

It featured bands like Jane's Addiction, The Chemical Brothers and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.
I was roughly three or four rows back and it was an unbelievable experience! The Chemical Brothers never fail to deliver..

One of the highlights was seeing Vin Diesel appear on stage in front of the crowd too.

The best (smallest) gig I've attended so far was this year. Kelis was playing at the Liquid Rooms during the Edinburgh Festival.

It was the sweatiest gig I've attended! (The crowd were gathered in a small, dark basement room.)

Her performance was REALLY memorable. The crowd were wild! She also signed posters and t-shirts after the gig which was cool.

My mom took me to Tom Petty when I was three. It was the 'Long After Dark' tour. I still remember it.

Fall of '81, my college roommate got me tickets to see Genesis two days after my 18th birthday, and even lined up a date for me, a girl I'd not-so-secretly had a crush on. I found out enough about her that night to kinda ruin the crush, but the concert was GREAT. Only wish I could have seen them with Peter Gabriel....

BIKISDAD

Mine was Frank Zappa and the Mothers with Captain Beefheart in 1974 at the Music Hall in Boston. That was the same tour that they recorded the "Bongo Fury" album from. Unfortunately, that was also the best concert I ever went to (other than classical). Nobody I ever saw after Zappa was as good.

I've heard that was an incredible show. My aunt and my dad are always playing that stuff for the younger kids. I'm jealous.

DINGOACTION

My parents got me Faith Hill/Tim Mcgraw tickets for my birthday (spontaneous combustion). I was so excited when Faith came out, I just couldn't figure out why everyone was sitting.

Most recent great show? The Corrs in cleveland. Fan-freakin-tastic; I wouldn't shut up about going for months ahead of time, and drove four hours to get there.

First concert I went to was the Police Synchronicity tour in Dallas. I went with my friend who got tickets because her mother was a polo instructor. Stewart Copeland played polo at their club, ate dinner with her family, and gave her tickets to the concert. SO, no I didn't get to meet SC. oh well.
I can't think of a concert that I got to go to that I really was dying to get to. :/

First concert when I was 11--The Monkees 1986 reunion tour(even though Mike Nesmith wasnt there--hmmm?) the next concert wasnt until 5 years later that concert?---Nine Inch Nails--so my music changed a bit,but my best concert---gosh as much as I love every show that I have seen of Joseph Arthur(7 shows--8 is coming up in mid dec in nyc)i gotta go with the man who really changed how I listened to music(kevin before--pop stations owned by clear channel---kevin after--i listen to everything!--except country, sorry) anyhoo that mans name---PETER GABRIEL,the show was his last tour Growing UP 2002 tour at the MCI center in Washington DC---I had shitty seats(damn you ticketmaster and your idiotic ways of selling tix!)but I didnt care because here I was seeing the MAIN artist other than Joss Whedon(and 2 comedians-Brian Regan and Bill Hicks)that really changed my life---in other words his music wanted me to explore not only other types of music but other parts of life,I honestly do not know if I would have given a show entitled Buffy a chance if it wasn't for PG's music.Hey call me overdramatic but it's how I feel. JADEHAND

Well, I started going to concerts when I was young, not that I've been to a lot. I think my first was Billy Joel back around "Innocent Man" if not earlier. however, the best shows I've seen were Marillion in '89 "Season's End" and Marillion last month '04 "Marbles" which I drove 7 hours for. I got all their autographs after the show both times. they're great people.
Other shows of note: The Cure "Wish", and Pink Floyd "Division Bell".

CONNORFLYNN

No laughing now!!! I listen to all kinds of music, but prefer comfort to mosh pits hehe.

My first concert was a Peter, Paul and Mary Concert at the Chautauqua Institution in NY. It was awesome!!

I'm more of a "Buy the CD" and enjoy it in comfort type of person. Especially nowadays when lipsynching and bad live performances don't make the cost of a ticket worth it. Although I saw Sting and Tracey Chapman (she actually sounds better live..whoulda thunk it :) ) a couple years ago and they were unbelieveable.

Although I would pay to see U2 live.
