Yes, Happy Canada Day to all our neighbors to the north. And this is coming from an American who actually knows things about Canada. Like the name of your Prime Minister (Paul Martin) and that it's not Newfoundland but Newfoundland-Labrador. And the names of your Provinces and Territories and some of their capitals. And that you recently had this big vote about something that if this one woman who is usually Conservative hadn't switched her vote at the last minute and sided with Labor, then you would have had to call for a new government. Do I have that right?

If you admire England, you're an Anglophile, France, a Francophile. Is there such a word as Canadaphile? 'Cause if there is, then I am one! And every Canadian I've told that to has always screwed up their faces and said: "Why?!" Well stop doing that! Canada is great country (I'm pretty sure--I haven't actually been there)! So go celebrate what's great about your country and your culture you crazy Canucks, you! Happy Canada Day!

I may be wrong, but, I was under the impression (from watching the movie CANADIAN BACON)that in Canada everything has to be printed in English and French?

So, here you go.....

REGINAROADIE

In Quebec, that's part of the deal. But in Saskatchewan, it's no big deal. I think the only people here who speak french are all in Gravelbourg (small town half an hour away from my old hometown of Mossbank).

I just got back from Regina's biggest Canada Day celebration ever. We werealso celebrating Saskatchewan's centennial. Pretty much the entire city gathered in Wascana Park and saw K-OS and GREAT BIG SEA perform live and for free in an outdoor concert. Some fireworks followed afterwards, but GREAT BIG SEA was the true highlight.

If you've never heard of them, I demand that you go to Canada just to get some of their albums. If you can see them live, it's a hundred times better. They're a band from Newfoundland that can be described as "maritime rock". This is some of the best stuff you'll ever hear. They're HUGE in Canada and their stuff is just gold. I havn't listened to them in years, but their stuff really brings back memories. And I actually got a good view of the band, despite being in a crowd that must've numbered in the hundreds of thousands. They actually said that this is the biggest attendance for any outdoor concert in the history of the city. So I was definitly hyped. Mind you, jumping up and down, pumping your fists in the air and singing along to these songs will definitly make you lose 5 pounds overnight.

This has been the best Canada Day I've experienced.

And wow! Hey! What's this thing suddenly coming towards me very fast? Very very fast. So big and flat and round, it needs a big wide sounding name like ... ow ... ound ... round ... ground! That's it! That's a good name - ground! I wonder if it will be friends with me?

Thank you for the correction.

I'll hang my head in shame as long as you promise not to invade our capital city; Toronto

And yes, Great Big Sea ROCKS!!!

LOL I think you are safe from invasion! Unless that talentless fool Micheal Moore :disapointed: decides to do a film about Toronto's conspiracy to take over the world !

Are you going to see them at the Calgary Stampede?

I'm late, but Happy Canada Day! I've been spreading politeness and friendliness (*snicker*) to our US visitors at Westercon this weekend. The highlight of the day had to be the cake shaped like the Serenity movie logo. And taking pictures of a girl (who will remain nameless for the time) dressed as Kaylee enjoying a strawberry.

How was Westercon, Saint Jayne? I totally couldn't make it because it was like $40 to get in for the one night plus my sister is getting married tomorrow so I had family in town. Please tell me it rocked and you met tons of Browncoats, both local and out of town. Did you take pictures? I must see!

Great Big Sea is going to be at the Stampede this year? Wow, I'm out of the loop. What day are they going to be there? Maybe we can make a shindig out of it or something.

Anyway, I've totally hijacked the Canada Day thread so I'm going to shut up now.

Day's over now (I carefully stayed in, avoiding the heat and the drunken lunatics prowling the street), but thanks for the wishes.

That it is. Even if it's possibly the second-worst place on the planet (after Australia) to be a fan of animé. And everything costs twice as much as the US equivalent (gorram Canadian pesos).

I went out around the supper hour but stayed in during the night. Finally got to see Memento and from our appartment we (actually, my wife) could readily see the fireworks.

Really? I've found it easly to get amime (it's even at my local HMV) but difficult to find others that enjoy it.

And what do you mean that it costs twice as much as what's in the US? I've compared .com's to .ca's/localstores and found no difference aside from the exchange rate (read: equivalent).

YMMV, of course. I'm speaking from experience in Ottawa, the land where everything is overpriced and never goes on sale ('cause, of course, "everyone" in Ottawa is rich ).
