Oh thank God. I thought I was one among a bunch of children. You are not alone, I think at least a group of us are in our thirties or above. I've never been a "fan" of anything in my life 'till Firefly. Not because I never looked -I did like a good little nerd- but because all the dream/fantasies like LOTR and the like never lived up to their billing. The promises never panned out.

Now I am learning about scary.

Me, too. Hate to admit it, try to act like I'm about 30, but I am a bit over 40. I've been a rabid fan of many things in my life, but I think that since I'm now at an age where I really understand life (ha, ha, I wish), this time it's for real. I mean, it's not because I'm young and stupid anymore, it's because I'm old and have good taste. Right?

Right?

ok, I did the math and now I have a headache. So either your in your sixties or I'm worse at math than I previously suspected. Why not just come right out and say your age or is "vagueness" an admirable trait when you get to that age bracket? :-) I'll admit I like to generalize a bit. When some people ask me how old I am I just reply, "I remember when Eisenhower was President" and alot of the younger folk go, "Who?" and I just say, "Ike, Gen. Eisenhower of WWII or depending on your point of view, the last honest Republican to serve in the Oval Office."

In my experience, I have trouble even identifying 32 year old's from 42 year olds, especially with medical technology etching into our faces nowadays. You know, if you're going to lie about your age, make it fun- imply you're 20.

Me personally, I like both sides. Anyone under-35: young whippersnapper doesn't know a GODdamn thing about the universe. Anyone 36 and over: you're too old too even fart dust, quit trying to outthink this younger and nimbler feller. Oddly enough, those two ages go up every year on my birthday (for instance, next year old people will be 37 and over).

I will say one thing completely off topic; I enjoy being around people my age now in social settings.
I like them and value them more than I used to. Because my Gen X age bracket never had any generational loyalty like the Boomers did, we never had that sad loyalty (someone once said "generational loyalty is the most debased form of all loyalty and patriotism"). But it also means when we finally want to be around our own kind, it's nice and fresh. At least it is for me. Growing up, I didn't think I would like my generation as adults. I thought we'd be wrecks. I was wrong, I'm happy to say. We're cleverer than other generations, and not nearly as immoral or sad as I thought we'd be. Nice to see some of my tribe.

Ok, tangent ends now!

"The truth is that neither sex, without some fertilization by the complementary characters of the other, is capable of the highest reaches of human endeavor. Man, without a saving touch of woman in him, is too doltish, too naive and romantic, too easily deluded and lulled to sleep by his imagination to be anything above a cavalryman, a theologian or a stock-broker. And woman, without some trace of that divine innocence which is masculine, is too harshly the realist for those vast projections of the fancy which lie at the heart of what we call genius. Here, as elsewhere in the universe, the best effects are obtained by a mingling of elements" -HL Mencken

JayTee said,

"Why not just come right out and say your age -- or is "vagueness" an admirable trait when you get to that age bracket?"

It ain't admirable, it's essential, especially when a) I don't look it, and b) my taste in women runs to those a third my age. Don't want to scare anyone off needlessly. And yes, your math is correct. Doctors commonly refer to folks in a certain age bracket by referring to their "decade." The second decade, i.e., the second ten-year period of life, is from 10 to 20.

BTW, I've seen good evidence that Ike was perhaps not totally honest.

This is fantastic, I am about in the middle, just turned 49 and hope to look as good as Sigorney Weaver when I turn 50. (may have grow my hair, and displace a few kilos).

On the Australian Serenity Movie board there was a sort of survey done and there were quite a few 'Jayne-aged' and above and even better, a significant number of those surveyed had'woman-parts'.
Leads off to little thought - who are the publicity people surveying when it comes to the demographic break down? Lots of women getting into 'scifi-action', reasonable disposable income - ie plenty to spare for Firefly/Serenity goodies. Maybe they need to have another look at who is doing the buying these days.

Ok, back to the age thing - the best thing about the 'chatty rooms' is it is your inner self that comes out in the posts, not the look but the thoughts so maybe it is how old we 'really' are that makes us all feel so cohesive. Or it could be that we love this verse.

OldFogey a PM can be
a) the afternoon
b) pre menstrual
or
c) a Personal Message
I like c but you can choose which ever you like.
