My dad's birthday is tomorrow and I have yet to buy him anything He's a big science fiction fan, but we don't have cable, so I would like to buy him a season of show that he doesn't get to see but is still good. Since we don't have cable I have no idea what shows are good and which are bad. I was just wondering if there are any suggestions of a decent science fiction show out there that I could get for him. I appreciate any ideas. The other day I was looking at a show called the 4400, anyone know if it's any good? Thanks muchly

The 4400 is good. Deadwood(not scifi) is Awesome.
He may also like "Brisco county Jr." very 'verse like stuff.

Thanks Kaneman, any and all suggestions are great. Being the great procrastinator I am I waited until last minute and now am regretting it.

If you want to go for something a little older may I suggest Alien Nation (a forgotten gem in my opinion!) which I was addicted to about 10 years ago! (But not as acute an addiction as Firefly!)

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

If I had the money right now, my choice would be Space: Above and Beyond.

The new Battlestar Galactica. The best sci-fi show I've seen since Firefly.

Farscape!

but theres four seasons of that. so if you don't want to be buying him farscape for the next two years (birthdays and christmas!) I wouldn't start.

Likewise Stargate, theres hundreds of those.

I'm told the new Battle Star Galactica is excellent, but i can't tell you myself because my family always talked loudly over it. It looked good.

The New Dr Who's are fab, with both Eccleston and Tennant.

Theres a brilliant show called Life on Mars - a cop gets knocked back into 1973 (flares, hair, dodgy policing methods) its dramatic and funny really well done, just finished watching it and its the next thing i'll be buying.

Carnivale - fantasy but brilliant, epic in scale, brilliantly written, frustrating ending though!

Really good show from a few years back, Ultraviloet - about vampires, but they never actually say as much, but really good.

Most of these are British, are you in britain? you may not have heard of them other wise.

Um, Wonderfalls is very good, but possibly not your dads thing, what other stuff does he like?

Good luck anyway, you'll need it, i know what its like trying to buy for my dad.

Thanks so much for the suggestions. I'm going to go out shopping in the morning to look for some of these. We have a few Farscapes videotaped from when we used to have cable (those were the days), so I got to know first hand how great those are. I'll look into the others, I live in America but my dad watches a lot of british shows, but most of them are somewhat old (Red Dwarf, Fawlty Towers, Black Adder), he rents them on Netflix, and a few he's bought. I'm going to look for this stuff at Circuit City and FYE since I don't know any better place to look. I hope to find some of these. Thanks again!
