We need to Strike. We need to form up out side of SciFi Head courters and disallow them to work. Or absolutly refuse to watch the Sci Fi channel untill it comes back on. The have Replace One of the Best shows that has ever shown itself on SciFi. If we all stop Watching SciFi There Rates will go down. And they will make less money.

Take me out to the Black tell them all i aint coming Back.

Hey, I'm on board - I don't watch the Sci-Fi channel as is (because I don't have it )!

EDIT: I'm still on board, but I thought we were talking about Stargate for a while. Heehee.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I think you are working under a mistaken notion. SciFi Channel is not the one who originally ran Firefly then canceled it, that was FOX network back in 2002. Sci-Fi didn't get the repeat rights until June of 2005, and they ran it to promote the upcoming release of Serenity, because the movie was produced by Universal, which owns Sci-Fi.

And I will continue to watch Sci-Fi as long as they continue to produce Battlestar Galactica.

I think it's safe to say that everyone on this site feels the same way (albeit toward F*X, but...).

Obviously you heard wrong, and also you are new to Firefly fandom. It's a long, long story, but if you chekc out all the thread here you will get the full story eventually.

Firefly premiered on FOX on September 20, 2002, and if you have listend to the commentaries and extras on the dvds you know that FOX turned down the originaly two-hour pilot entitled "Serenity" because they thought it did not have enough action and comedy. Joss and Tim Minear were forced to write a new pilot script over a weekend, and that is what became "The Train Job," which was the first episode FOX ran. They did not run "Serenity" until the very end, December 20, 2002, but they had already canceled it by that point, even though they were only calling it a hiatus at that point.

Joss was able to interest Universal in a movie deal, and thus we got the movie Serenity in 2005. They were able to negotiate repeat rights for Firefly from FOX, and Sci-Fi Channel ran it during the summer and early fall leading up to the movie's premiere. That is why most of our effort are now geared towards Universal, in hopes they will see there is an audience for a movie sequel or a continuation of the series.

But don't expect anything to happen overnight. Joss is busy writing the new Wonder Woman movie, and he will probably direct it too, so more than likely it will be at least a couple of year before he could once again turn his attention to another Firefly/Serenity project.

But it will happen, of that I am sure. The main thing to do is tell everyone you know about the show and movie, get them to watch it and buy the dvds themselves. That way they can do the same for other people that they know. The more fans of the 'verse, the better our chances of more story.

Oh, and to add on to ecgordon's post: there's also a lovely graphic novel ("Serenity: Those Left Behind"). I thought that might be helpful.

EDIT: P.S. Wouldn't it be great if there was a thread section titled "For Those Folks New to the 'Verse" or some such? Not that repeating the information to every newcomer isn't fun (helps us keep up on our facts, after all), but...

::shrugs::

As has been said, Sci-Fi didn't cancel FireFly, F*X did..

But "being confrontational" with Bonnie Hammer is the WAY wrong way to handle Sci-fi.. She's an "I WILL WIN" Type, and you'll just end up fighting a losing battle... that way works on some networks, but it just doesn't work with Bonnie, and she gets her way because she personally is responsible for over a third of Universal's income (USA and Sci-Fi).

If you want to get Bonnie's attention, Bring more females to Sci-fi.

Several Reasons.. One is that out of protest many of us won't say the name...

As another, it's a legal side-step. I might be talking about "FIX" or "Fire Fight Xtreme" ;)

But it's Mostly protest I guess.

They see it right here.. they hit ALL the fansites on the first few pages of Google on a regular basis... they have a whole department for it.. their Other IT people do it also while they aren't doing anything else.

...yeah, looks like they are holding fast to the rights to FireFly.. they rent them out from time to time, but it's just free money to them, and they don't seem to be getting any serious offers from anyone to pick up the rights right now.

They have to include their costs of advertising (Even though they bungled it), production and marketing costs, etc, into any sale, so until it starts costing them money to own the rights, then they aren't motived to sell at a lower price.

MooseRamshackel:

You're new here and there's a lot of background info on Firefly and Serenity you'll need to catch up on. The more you understand about the studios and how things work, the better you'll be able to know how to direct your energies to bringing back Firefly/Serenity.

FYI: I'm using both words together, "Firefly/Serenity", as an overall reference. Legalilties being what they are, 20th Century Fox may not allow the name "Firefly" to be used, if the show takes the form of a series, or mini-series, should Universal be the one to continue the 'Verse on TV. But we can't be sure, so referring to both "Firefly/Serenity" together covers the bases.

Dealing with studios in such an aggressive, annoying, and possibly subject to police intervention, way is most definitely NOT the way to go. It puts our fandom in a bad, scary, light and makes Firefly look like it appeals to off-mainstream, cult like fanatics. Studios are not motivated to get involved in a production associated with that kind of negativity.

Experienced fans have already posted to you about how ill-advised a protest idea is, yet you persist. Take the advice of experienced fans and use it to guide your ideas in a better, more positive direction.
