Ok don't you just love the snap judgement based on appearances??? ARGH! Went into faculty room to eat lunch. ( preface this by saying I am wearing jeans, a black shirt that's modestly scoop necked with lattice high up on the back, though still quite modest, black loafers, silver hoop earrings, a few silver rings, my wedding ring, and dark red nail polish/lipstick)
I'm happily eating lunch and discussing with Lauren how I went to the greek festival this weekend. One of the older teachers says " well that's because you're greek" ( ok I really do not look greek) I mention I'm not. we continue talking and I ask Lauren how the set up for picture day is going. Then I bemoan my forever forgetting picture day and not looking good. And the same older gent says" Well all you'd need is to wear that outfit with your black lipstick and you'll be fine , right." Kinda annoyed that this guy has already determined my ethnicity ( incorrectly)and decided I'm a goth ( which I am not) without ever even having a conversation with me.

First, this type of book is not a story - it's a Religious Education text.

Second, would you expect the Koran to be banned from the school libraries? Or the teachings of Buddha? Or the Egyptian Book of the Dead? The Morman Texts? How about the Old Testament? Of course not!

So why would anyone want to ban a book on Wicca? It is just another belief system, and just as valid as any of the others I've listed above. If you ban one, you will have to ban them all.

Guess I gave off the wrong impression and I apologise for that PP. What I meant to say was that they are banning books for really stupid reasons. So I was surprised that this one did not make their list. While I realize and fully accept Wicca as a religion alot of people do not. I have a few Wiccan friends who tolerate my Agnostic views.

I think this still comes off as wrong but it is the only way I can think to explain it.

Kelkhil, I didn't mean to pick on you or make you think I had taken offense, it's just that I find this issue to be a personal pet-peeve.

There's a group of "Antiquers" in my area that says a prayer at each of their meetings, but voted NOT to allow any type of prayer other than christian. This was a 25 to 24 vote taken almost exactly 5 years ago right after 9/11, and the other 24 members have been trying to change this ever since.

I believe that if someone is going to allow one religious group to express themselves, then they should allow ALL other groups as well.

This is also my thinking about teaching "creation theory" in schools. Great, go ahead and teach the christian creation story, but don't forget to include the Chineese one, the Iroquois story, the ancient Egyptian mythos, the Norse Gods vs Frost Giants, etc. Anything less is just one group bullying everyone else who is not a member.

Sorry if you thought that my ire was directed at you personally - it was not meant to be.

*sigh* How come my teachers never looked like that? I'm picturing how you must look in my mind, but I'm still at work so I'll have to stop before I need to go to my bunk!

Seriously, I would have just given him an icy look, and then explained that Greeks like you rarely dress up all Gothified unless it's the weekend, and he should mind his own fing business.

I've come to the conclusion that most people will, unfortunately, continue to make snap judgments based on all sorts of things, and that there is not a lot that can be done about it.

People still often assume that "Pagan" means sacrificing small animals and participating in depraved sexual escapades with unwilling virgins. The only way I've figured out to dispel that belief is to reassure them that the virgins are not unwilling, and then just walk away.

I agree with you whole-heartedly here. Being in Georgia, I know that this will come up when my kids are in school, and I am almost looking forward to it. I plan to give someone (or several someones) as hard a time as I can until people realize that freedom of religion does not mean being able to choose your own denomination of Christianity. (for reference, I am an athiest, but was brought up Methodist for 20ish years).

'Morning, Forsaken!

Yeah, Paul is one of my personal heroes too He's a lot nicer about the animal sacrifice thing; I would always point out how much sacrifice was in Christian mythos. They didn't like me much for that.
As for teaching Creation in school, what about the seemingly on-going campaign to have the ten commandments installed in classrooms? I always said if they succeeded, I would start my own campaign to have the three poisons and the four noble truths posted. Then there's the rule of three. There's a lot of things, really! The whole classroom could just be plastered with religious lessons.
Ok, feeling a bit discombobulated. Gonna go catch up on some stuff.

PaganPaul- thanks I emphasized modest because I've made the mistake ( once ) of wearing a slightly tight red v neck sweater that showed a shadow of clevage( clarify here that I'm a DD cup) and I couldn't get a single boy to pay attention all day, so I've learned my lesson.
PR-LOL your ten commandments comment made me think of a bit on John Stewart where the politician sponsoring the bill to place the "big ten" in courtrooms was on and John asked him to list the 10 commandments and he couldn't even name one...I almost choked laughing. Especially seeing as MisterG ( who is an atheist) could name 3.

Thanks PaganPaul:)and yes I did mean pay attention to the lesson...I am so never wearing that sweater to school again ( course the short black skirt might have had something to do with it too so I never wear it either. ) I was going out with friends that night and didn't want to be bothered changing so I wore the outfit to school...never doing that again. This is also why I now make my husband or others vet all items prior to wearing them at school. Since they're guys they can identify distracting outfits and all:)

Okay, I am having major issues with this animation thing. It keep running very slowly and turning the background black for no reason. Not that it's bad, since it's all black background and all, but I can't get it to run at a decent speed, even editing a little emote, it's all stilted. Runs fine if I'm advancing the frames myself, but then it gets all wonky if it just plays on its own.
*edit* 'K, I figured that part out. Sheesh, editing frame-by-frame in photoshop and then trying to get it all to look right again is a huge pain! Is there an easier way? I didn't see a way to edit within the program itself.

I'm using Movie Gear, which Paul posted a downlaod to. I haven't been able to find any gif editor in photoshop (I don't have Elements, that might be why), but Movie Gear doesn't have a way to edit within the program; you have to make the animation frame by frame and then insert it, so I had to edit it in photoshop. I was just practicing on one you had already fixed: I liked the bigger eyes of the original and wanted to see if I could fix it. Huge, huge pain. Is yours easier?
On a slightly related note, here is my first project out of my new photoshop book:

I am very proud. Especially because I did a few things to expand on their instructions and I think it looks better than theirs!

G'morning, FORSAKEN!

PR, nope, there is no editor built into MovieGear. You have to edit the frames in a different program (PhotoShop, PaintShop Pro, etc.) and then put them together in MovieGear.

Penguine, if you can upload a copy of the software you use, that would be shiny and people can compare the two.

And now for some FORSAKENey goodness, I just got some pictures back from the Hogwarts School we did at the church a few weeks back. Here's a shot of me corrupting... I mean educating the next generation of Pagans.

I still like the idea that you freaked out a wedding...

I went to Uni with a bloke who was raised in a pagan household, and he used to grumble about going to Beltane etc the way other kids moan about going to church with their parents.

A good thing; I have finally got folks at work to realise that 'witch' should not be used as a term of abuse, particularly if I am in earshot.

Howdy Tristan. Guess you could use a grenade about now with work and all. Here's the procedure. have fun!

A classic hand grenade has a handle (called a spoon) and a removable safety pin that prevents the handle from being released. To use the grenade, the user pulls the pin out of the grenade and throws it, releasing the spoon. Pulling the pin on a grenade requires a large amount of force, so the pin is removed by pulling with a finger rather than with the teeth as is shown in popular motion pictures. Before removing the pin, the soldier grips the grenade to prevent the handle being released at the same time. With the pin removed, the grenade is thrown, the handle is released, and a spring-loaded striker ignites a pyrotechnic delay element in the fuse. The delay burns for two to five seconds, and then activates the detonator, exploding the grenade.

Or if that ain't acceptable right now, maybe this is:
New Orleans Hand Grenade recipe
Scale ingredients to servings
1 1/2 oz gin
1 1/2 oz grain alcohol
1 1/2 oz melon liqueur
1 1/2 oz rum
1 1/2 oz vodka
Stir ingredients together in a collins glass filled with ice cubes. Add water and sugar if desired, to taste, and serve.

Okay, so maybe that ain't allowed at work either. But it sure sounds good.

No problema. Must report your findings to the Forsaken. Like to have an official Forsaken cocktail.

So there is no spoon Pagan Paul? I'm looking at it this way: If there is no spoon then therefore the grenade does not exist. The hand in which I held the grenade is in the past therefore it does not exist. The here and now is all there is. But since I have typed this message and it takes time to reach you, it no longer exists for me. Thank you for sharing my non-existence. Though my thanks no longer exist on the Earth, they still exists in my heart.

Now let's burn something. Could really go for blackened marshmellows right about now.

*starts burning marshmallows for NVG*

I don't know if you watch(ed) Buffy, but in one episode a character called Dawn put a marshmallow in the microwave to see what would happen. It went all melty and squishy.

Yes, I've done it since. It was all gooey and yummy. And I'm still not as obsessed as my friend, who bought the outfit she wore in that episode!

oh great followers of the giant spaghetti monster...am I to be penalized for the many heaping plates of spaghetti I have eaten, and if so, what is the path to redemption?

Well, considering I got his NAME wrong, I think you're in the clear. It's the flying spaghetti monster, not the giant spaghetti monster. I always get that wrong!

You can visit the church of the flying spaghetti monster website at http://www.venganza.org. They'll point you on the true path to redemption

See, now there really is no spoon!
