If you buy tickets now, the 4 day pass is $50. As far as hotels/food/etc. I have no idea. I've never been to D*C.

Just a couple more shapes to consider:

My personal votes are for either the hexagon, circle, or square (in that order) for what it's worth.

I can come up with a design for you if you give me elements and a color scheme.

BWTP is right on the money with how much the weekend pass is (for the moment). As far as hotels go, if you stay in a host hotel, they're usually between $150 & $170/night (at the D*C group rate). There are other hotels within walking distance (overflow hotels) that are cheaper. You can get all of the "official" names at http://www.dragoncon.org. They haven't updated the price for the host hotels yet, as I don't believe anyone in their office will be back until January.

Bear in mind, you'll need money for food, booze, lots of neato Browncoat gear, valet parking (if you're staying in a host hotel, and driving, this is a requirement, not a choice), and incidentals (snacks, tips, etc.). You can also check out http://www.livejournal.com/dragoncon for more tips, adverts for roommates (to help cut down on hotel costs), people posting space in their cars, etc.

You know, it's occurred to me that us "experienced" Browncoat D*Cers should work up a comprehensive list of possible expenses for those who've never been before. I know it would have helped us out tremendously before we went the first time!

I'm taking a very basic class on it now and I want to make some, but I don't know if it's going to cover sleeves or not. If your husband has any instructions/suggestions on sleeves it would be greatly appreciated.

Sure thing! He'd be happy to share any tricks and tips he's come up with. You can reach him at ben at legendaryleatherworks dot com.

..I am so humbled by the creativity of the 'coats!...Tristan: LOVE the vest!! Must have one...(soooo much better than the ones I've been 'scopin' at the thrift store! I'd be happy to be a 'two-stripe' grunt for the parade!
BWTP!!..WOW I must have one of those patches; I vote for the square or hexagon shape as I think the simpler the better and more close to what the Independence Army was all about..does that make sense? I'd be happy to contribute to the fund to have the patches made as well. Boomer: Put me in for a lanyard! I got to D*C 2006 and couldn't find where they were being sold..to offer to do a 'special' one just for the '76th... that's great and thank you! I'm getting more excited about D*C 2007....jeeze.. will it EVER get here?!

274 days Sister. Better get to saving

Boomer: I am good for a lanyard too, if we do indeed do them.

As for DragonCon prices, I have the following to contribute:

We paid $190 a night (after taxes and the like) at the Marriot, and 4 of us in the room for 4 nights made it $190 apiece, and there was ample room for all of us (we had planned on a 5th, but she had to cancel, and that would have been a decent bit more crowded as well). There wasn't a day that I ate all three meals, at least, not paid for them. We brought all sorts of food for the room, and sodas too, so we could save a little (instant oatmeal, granola bars, etc). I didn't go in the dealer rooms much, so I can't tell you about them, but it was $20 each for the BDH signatures/photo op (you could take a pic of them for free, just not a pic with them). I also took my own booze, which made it considerably cheaper. The consumables can actually be bought once you get there, as there is a store nearby. I only ate in the food court a couple of times, but it is probably the cheapest option.

Well, enough whinging for me.

:)

Xie Xie folks, I'm not quite happy with it,

Also its on the large side for my lil arms, on the bright side, this same sleeve is large enough for my best friend who is a 6'3" 300 lb guy, so apparently my sleeve pattern is a one size fits all, I kinda like the looser baggy over my hands kinda look which is not how you would wear chainmail but oh well :)

Oh and folks may want to wear a long sleeved black shirt or at least sleeves under the chainmail, I will post a pic of that this evening, it makes the chainmail look a bit more believable.

Another thought on the patches which look very nifty, Have yall approached the browncoat running http://mysite.verizon.net/resp06h7 chances are he can get a better deal as he is an existing customer for wherever he gets his patches from, his patches by the way are wonderful I have a set of them :)

Browncoats are the shiniest folks in the 'verse

Morning, all!

BoomerGoodHeart, that sounds like a great idea! Thank you for offering. Not sure if we're taking a vote yet, but I like the "We Will Hold The Line" phrase myself.
I have been building mail for over 15 years, and while fun and great-looking, it's also very time consuming (as you know)...I am going to use the limited time I have (limited?!?) before D*C trying to build costumes. I don't have a problem with people making mail sleeves; I think it would be kinda shiny, actually!

BWTP, I had thought the same thing until seeing the deleted scene from the pilot episode. Zoe just has the three horizontal stripes, rather than the horizontal and vertical. It confused me a bit . I went frame-by-frame in some sections of The Message last night, and it seems the basic vest design has three horizontal stripes. If I remember, I'll capture them tonight and post them. Even Tracey's vest had the three.
My vote is still for the hexagonal patch.

Sister, thank you for that! There's still a lot of work to do on it...that is just the shell so far. But, the good news is they do not take a lot of time, and they do not use a lot of cloth, so they will not be that expensive at all. I just have to come up with some sort of closures for the front, and the screencaps were no help at all!

Legendary Leatherworks, I can't believe I didn't put 2 and 2 together when you mentioned the lanyards. ( I was you first PayPal customer )

I'm taking the final class tonight, so I'll see what deficiencies there are in what I need to know and hit him up. I thank him in advance for everything and you for making the offer.

I'm glad you like them. I'll let everyone know what kind of deal I can work out with the patch place. At worst, I'm thinking $2 a patch. Once I send chunks of them to the contributors, you can charge whatever you want for them, but once we decide on a quantity and what everybody's going to help offset for me, than just tell me how much you can/want to contribute and you'll get the equivalent amount of patches.

Please tell me that if you pay the $20 you can get the signature AND take a picture with them. It would kinda suck to have an either/or situation.

Well for one thing, modern military doesn't wear a Brigade patch: They were a Division patch. Not sure how/if this will matter to anyone, because unless the word "Brigade" was used specifically we could easily assume that all references to the 76th was a reference to a Division number.

However, if we're dead set on Brigade, I would suggest to Babywiththepower that you look up the word "Regiment", the Chinese Military equivalent of Brigade.

I'll put forth for my own vote that we stick with having the patch represent our Division, and that we choose a Company of a Battalion of a Brigade of the 76th Division to represent. If this is cool with you Tristan, I could write up all of the nomenclature on it, give us a real identity. I think it's pretty much decided that you'd be the Company Commander, most likely making you a Captain (imagine that?). You could assign a First Sargeant and an XO of Lieutenant rank.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

BWTP, those are some shiny patches. I prefer the oval or circular design to the hexagon one, but that is just me. The triangular one is nice, but may be too much since the Independent patch is already a triangle. Don't much care for the square. I'll gladly buy several when they are made (or in advance if need be) to insure I can get them in time to sew on & get the numbers needed to place the patch order.

I don't know how your unit worked, but I wore my Battalion patch in my sleeve (for awhile) and my Batallion crest on my beret. We changed to wearing the Group patch (for those that don't know Group is equvalent to Brigade). The only people that wore a Division patch were the ones assigned to the Division. I know it was different in units like the 1st AD, but it wasn't a blanket rule across the board. Pleanty of Battalions and Brigades had patches.

What MOS were you? Until I got to Bragg, it was Battalion crest on beret, and Brigade patches on the sleeve only if you'd been deployed with them.

Sorry, updated the thread with the correct info. I got it ass backwards. Been up for 24 hours. No caffiene. Sorry.

And in answer, I was DISE Platoon, A. Co, 2d Bn, 66th MI GP.

I was a 96B, Tactical Intel Analyst. But while I was in I was also an 97B, Counter Intel, and SatCom (not sure the MOS designator).
