Quote:

In a wooded ravine tucked away from the water parks, restaurants and mega-resorts that dominate this tourist town, a piece of history is quietly dying.

After more than half a century of wowing tourists (and causing probably more than a few cases of nausea), the Wonder Spot, a mysterious cabin where people can't stand up straight, water runs uphill and chairs balance on two legs, is no more.

Owner Bill Carney has sold the iconic attraction to the village of Lake Delton for $300,000. The village wants to build a road through the crevice where the Wonder Spot has stood since the 1950s.

Now, the Wonder Spot, one of more than a dozen sites around the nation dubbed "gravity vortexes" and a throwback to postwar, family-oriented tourist attractions, has a date with a bulldozer.

I always wanted to go here, now it looks like I won't get the chance.

Well, damn. That does suck. I saw a few articles on that spot, and even a documentary that mentioned it.
Here's hoping it wreaks havoc on the builders, though! That'd teach them.

If that is getting tourists to come to your town, then why would do something as stupid and tearing that place down? It makes no sense. I have never heard of that and it sounded interesting. I might have wanted to see it.

There's a similar place in. . . the Maritime provinces. I forget where, but it's called Magnetic Hill.

It's not as impressive though; you put your car in neutral and you seem to roll uphill. Just a basic trick of perspective, though, nothing actually Fortean like gravity going wonky.

You can always go for the biggest ball of yarn. That always attracts people. Or you can kick everyone out of town and claim your a ghost town. There is one in South Dakota where I got gas. The ghost was very pleasant who took my cash at the service station.

I'm not crying. That is a really, really stoopid tourist attraction. I've been there.

Hello Griswald:

Are you talking about the Wonder Spot or the largest ball of yarn?

The Dells is synonymous with tacky. But what can you expect from people who where blocks of cheese on their heads at Packers games.

Gotta love Wisconsin, My home sweet home.
