Special Branch Living Dead Summary

I thought Id repost this as were in a new thread...

At the start of the thread Wisp and Safe had just busted out of the medical facility with little ghost and met the underground guy called Huxley. SR appeared doing some theft. Vixen gets busted out of Jail by the resistance. Soul and Needy escaped with friends and met up with Needy’s old friend Kyra who shot him but of course its needy.

Citizen infiltrates the underground and meets somebody he knows. The underground are transporting Needy’s Other friend Milton. The medical escapees hide in a warehouse for a while.

Sykes (the doctor looking after the deadish Seryn) blows up his computers. Transport arrives in warehouse complete with Vixen, Citizen, Jack, and Fletchette oh and Milton.
The people in the transport pull off a very exciting car-chase/gun fight.

That bloke Roberts who is somehow helping Needy went Professor Xavier on some guys ass and made him shoot himself.

We final find out Seryn is still alive!! Yay!! Safe punched Sykes and everyone had A jolly nice reunion. SR appeared at our door so we Let him join our band of merry men women & children.

Milton appears to have jolly rogered the resistance but now regrets his actions upon finding Needy alive. Some snipers appeared and Wisp had a dream.

Seryn bonds with ghost and wonders how she’s the same ghost she knows just not. The evil Carsons re-enter our story. And Seryn convinces the motley crew to play social services.

A branch of the resistance got arrested.

Aprilise posted a FANTASTIC and intresting background into the carsons history. Safe shows his paternal side and we meet the Girl Spider (cool name a cant imagine the christening) and after much debate she joins our party.

Clayton and Robert Wu discuss Needy’s dark new powers and motovations.

Rosie (after much anticipation) has shedded her woody exterior and become a proper Humanoid plant girl!! Even if she does ramble on a bit.

SR Seryn and Safe (too many characters with S’s) arrive at the Carson’s farm and through a process of blackmail threats and violence locate Shadow and Truth.

The appearance of the characters is decided upon and follows as
Wisp - Tom Welling (Smallville)
Vixen - Selma Blair (Hellboy)
Jack - John C McGinley (Scrubs)
Safe - Kurt Russell (Stargate)
Bear - Michael Clark Duncan (Green Mile)
Jennings - Ryan Reynolds (Blade Trinity)
Grunt: Patrick Warburton (Seinfeld/Scream 3)
Flechette: Melina KaraKaredes (CSI:NY)
Versa: Anna Belknap (CSI:NY/The Handler)
Amy: Mira Sorvino (Mimic)
Needy - Ian Somerhalder (Lost)
Kyra - Evangeline Lily (Lost)
Milton - Sam Huntington (Superman Returns)
Robert Wu - Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica)
Janus - Robert Patrick (Terminator 2)
Phelps - Peter Weller (Robocop/24)
Seryn-Claudia Black (farscape)
Sykes- Malcom McDowel
Jack-Dr Cox (scrubs)
Spider---AnnaSophia Robb(Charlie and chocolate Factory)
SR- Cant decide so a strange genetic cross breed ofClive Owen (King Arthur, I'll sleep when I'm Dead), Tcheky Karyo (Wing commander, The original La Femme Nikita) or maybe Ralph Fienness (Strange Days). Remember Pierce Brosnan as James Bond in Die another Day? When he gets out of the prision camp, that's the look, hair long, beard, lot's of scruff. A bit of faded flash living on the edge like Antonio Banderas in Desperado. What did the Rangers look like in Middle Earth, regal bearing, shabby clothes, muddy boots, bright swords. Sean Bean as Richard Sharpe: a bloody killing officer, a real veteran soldier hardened from years of battle, promoted up from the ranks, not some foppish dandy who bought his commision with his parents money. Dirty Uniform, clean rifle. A survivor, like Christian Bale in Reign of Fire
Soul-Jensen Ackles(supernatural)

Then we all reappear at the Epsilon and set off for wacky space born adventures.

(inbetween theres been many flashbacks that were too numerous and indepth to write about)

NEEDY

The road to Hel is paved with good intentions

OOC: Its not much, just my first attempt at creating a poster. And since I still have to get pictures of all the characters, the only one included is Seryn (Claudia Black)

I'll just update the summary of the last thread

The crew set off in the Epsilon to pick up the brother and sister of young Ghost with the help of Spider's direction. Upon arriving at the location however, they discover that the oldest, the boy Truth, is in a bad way and suffering from hypothermia.
As he is taken in and seen to by Sykes, the resident surgeon, the crew witnesses something even more disturbing... Seryn's water breaking! A month or so early too!
Typically, everybody crowds around her trying to help, when really they're not helping at all. Seryn swiftly orders them to get busy elsewhere. She can handle this... right?
Elsewhere on the Epsilon, Needy finally does something other than mope about. He accepts Milton's apology and tells him that he only did what he thought was best. Then, he approaches Kyra - the woman who stabbed him in the back (figuratively speaking) and later shot him in the head (quite literally) - in an attempt to put the past behind him.
Meanwhile, Wisp notices a gunship is heading straight for them, and promptly flies their ship the hell out of there.
SR runs to find out what's going on.

SCORPIONREGENT

SR walks into the cock pit and looks over Wisp's shoulder.

"Is that what I think it is?"
"That would depend, what do you think it is?"
"Do you really want to know?"
"You don't know all ready?"
"Do you answer every question with a question?"
"Oh do I now?"
"Is there any way we can convince them that this is some sort impromptu hospital ship run by a low budget NGO aid agency? We have orphans, a boy in serious difficulty and a woman in labor, What more do we need?"

SOULOFSERENITY

The Man They Call Soul...

OOC: So Wisp, you wanna be the Sam to my Dean? Jared Padalecki plays Sam on Supernatural, and the guy I picked as Soul, Jensen Ackles, plays Sam's older brother Dean on the same show. I think Jared would be a good choice for Wisp.

Soul walks into the cockpit behind SR and Wisp and glances at the screen.

"Well, that doesn't look too good. Have they broadcast anything yet?"

Mantichorus: "So is there a reason they call you 'Soul'?"
Soul (after a long pause): "Yeah. Because I have one."

"Not as yet. I hightailed it pretty quick when I saw 'em. They may have got a fix on us im not sure as of yet" Just as the words left his mouth a tone blurted announcing that the gunship had layed in an intercept course on them.

"Huh choo-shung tza-jiao duh tzang-huo!"

"Dont swear there are children around" Soul said behind his ear.

"I am sorry" Wisp said dripping with sarcasm. He pressed a button on the console and began speaking over the intercom.

" Ladies and Gentlemen this is your captain speaking. We will shortly be experiencing some turbulance and it is reccomended you return to your seats and fasten safety belts. We thankyou for your assistance"

"What about Seryn??" SR asked in a concerned tone "You cant go all TOP GUN on us when shes in labour!"

"I'll try and make it quick but we all know what will happen if that ship catches up with us. I mean were fugitives, The Carsons have no doubt portrayed us as kidnappers, and weve been helped by the resistance. We cannot allow that ship to reach us, Go and ask the Doctor how long I have before I hear crying"

SAFEAT2ND

Safe runs his hand over his face, “Oh brother. Don’t they ever give up?”

Pushing his hat back, he scratches his head “C’mon Safe, think.”

“Wisp!! Take us down. Close to the water as possible and punch it.” Safe sprints to the back of the ISSCV.

“SR, Needy, Soul…. Rosie too, I’ll need you help back here. I’ve got a little parting gift for our ‘friends’.”

The small group braces themselves at the back hatch of the ISSCV as Wisp banks sharply and drops towards the river, skipping once off the water before leveling off. The ISSCV’s passage creates a wake as it weaves along the river.

“Wisp, let them gain on us.”

“What?? Need I remind you that’s a fully armed gunship? We don’t have the firepower to go nose to…”

“Just do it. Trust me.”

“You’re the boss.”

“Rosie,” Safe turns to the still puzzled plant woman. “This may seem like an odd request, but seeing as how I know very little about your abilities, I have to ask. Do you have any control over other foliage? We could use to have the trees along this river close over. Make our friends come down to our level.”

“In the meantime, lets tie together these flak canisters.”

"Yes," Rosie agrees. "It is a very odd request. I have an empathic feel for plants, but control? Well, I'll give it a try! First, I have to get closer to the plant world."

Rosie runs off to the tub of dirt and hops in. Tendrils break out from around her ankles and dig into the dirt. She reaches her arms up. A few leaves sprout from her arms and hands.

"Uh, okay. What do you want them to do, Safe? Oh, and could someone please water me?"

Finished tying the canisters together, the group looks expectantly at Rosie.

Rosie slowly shakes her head. “I am sorry. They cannot hear me. I fear I have to be in contact with the source.”

When she is met with a confused silence, Rosie struggles for a better answer.

“The source… the umm… earthground.” She smiles at finally finding the right word.

Safe turns to Soul and SR, “Ok then… see if you two can get their attention.”

He hits the button lowering the back hatch. “Citizen. Have you got any more “little surprises” left?”

Citizen flips open his jacket. “It’s the last one. You owe me for two things now…”

With the hatch now fully open, the wind whistles around them. SR kneels on the deck and unslings his rifle while Soul carefully chooses his arrows.

When Safe finishes attaching Citizen’s last explosive to the canisters, Jack starts wrapping life jackets around it.

“What are you doing?” Safe and Flechette ask in unison.

“Way I see it, when that thing hits the water it’s gonna sink. To be effective, it should at least be on top of the water.”

Flechette smiles and looks at Safe. “See? He’s not dumb as a stump; he’s dumb as a well schooled stump.” Jack beams proudly.

SERYN

At Wisps announcement Seryn grunted. She'd decided that words were just too much like making an effort, and at the moment, all of that was concentrated elsewhere.

Syke's returned to her side, a cool cloth covering the large lump on his forehead.
She managed to throw him a small glance of apology before another contraction seized her and he rushed back, careless of his own safety around her feet, to check on her.
"Ok I think its happening... Now you have to do everything exactly as I say! Can you do that?"

She swore at him, at length, and he grinned and got to work.

Isn't sanity really a one trick pony, anyway? I mean all you get is one trick, rational thinking! But when you're good and crazy...ooh hoo hoo hoo... the skys the limit!

Standing over in her tub of dirt, Rosie's face twists in distaste.

"A stump is a tree that has been chopped down. Of course it is stupid. It's dead. You might as well say, 'As dumb as a thoroughly dismembered human,' but that would be just as lacking in tact."

Flechette offers Rosie a wry smile, “That’s a fair comparison, plant girl.”

Jack adopts a pained expression. “Hey!! I resemble that remark.”

“Jack! Focus!” Safe snaps, and then looks at SR and Soul. “Ready?”

SR’s only answer is the sharp retort of his gun as three bullets strike the pursuing crafts canopy within centimeters of each other. As powerful as SR’s rifle is, the gunship’s armor proves to be stronger, if only marginally. The bullets spiderweb the glass but fail to penetrate. “If nothing else, at least their visibility is reduced.”

Soul takes his time before lofting an arrow airborne.

“You missed.” SR says, never lift his eye from his rifle scope.

“Meant to…” Soul says calmly. Soul’s arrow soars over the gunship and detonates.

The combination of the explosion and the reduced visibility forced the gunship down close to the water.

“Now!” Safe says as he and Jack lean into the canisters pushing them into the water. True to Jacks plan the canisters submerge briefly before popping back to the surface of the river. Safe slaps the close button and SR pops of a few parting shots as the rear hatch slowly closes.

As the gunship passes over the bobbing canisters, Citizen grins and presses the remote detonator button. The resulting explosion from the canisters rocks the gunship, littering it with flak, and it careens to the side slamming into the river bank.

Safe hits the com button, “Wisp, get us out of here. I don’t know about you, but I’ve had quite enough of this gorram planet.”

NEEDY

The road to Hel is paved with good intentions

"Mice!"

Clayton snapped out of his daydream and looked up at his boss, trying to work out the meaning behind this seemingly random comment

"Sorry sir?"

"Its these damn mice", Carl Perry explained "I swear, you'd think we were in a cheap motel room"

Clayton looked at the piece of paper his editor held in his hand. True enough, there were bite marks in the file extract, no doubt caused by the rodents in question.

"Maybe if you filed it away..." Clayton started to suggest, before realising he'd perhaps stepped over the line.

Carl looked up at him over his glasses.
"Excuse me?"

"Sorry... nothing." Clayton backtracked.

"And since when do you have to be sorry over nothing?"

Clayton tried to think of a suitable reply, before Carl continued

"Oh, you mean since the reason I've got so many files on my desk is because you've so many unfinished stories sitting on your own. And the only ones I do get are unprintable tabloid fodder. Aliens, ghosts and government conspiracies..."

"Yeah, that reminds me boss."

Carl sighed. "What is it now?"

"There's a story I'd like to..."

"Look, you can stop right there, cos I don't need to hear you talking about another wacko story you want to check into."

"Boss..."

"The answer is no. I mean, what the hell are you doing checking into other stories. I figured you'd be out there looking for Kyra. I mean she packs up and leaves you without a word, and you wanna track down some urban legend instead"

"No. It's not like that."

"Then what is it like then" Carl uttered, exasperated.

"It's about Kyra... kinda."

"Kinda?"

"Its what she was working on, and it should give us a clue as to where she is now"

Carl thought for a moment. Something smelt wrong.
"That the truth?"

Clayton nodded. It really wasn't, well not unless you go through the six degrees of seperation, but it was connected someway.

Carl breathed a long sigh.
"What is it you need?"

KYRA

Who we are depends on the outcome of the struggle between who we were and who we want to be

Minutes Earlier:

Needy had returned to his seat after checking on his headstrong friend, who had just gone into labour
Kyra looked at him for a minute, studying him with her eyes.
He was the same guy. His concern for his friend... it was genuine, he really wanted to help, as always.
Bernie seemed to have a penchant for helping women in trouble, though usually the women he offers to help can handle themselves. Still, she admired his altruism. Too few people out there would show the same selflessness.
It was what Kyra loved most about him, and sadly, it was the very same thing she had used against him.
She was ready, she was ready to tell him she was sorry. Beg him for forgiveness. To ask that he please would just talk to her, no, merely acknowledge her presence would be enough.
The thing was, it wouldn't be. She needed forgiveness, absolutely. She needed him to be able to talk to her, to open his arms to her again, to confide in her.
But she knew this was just a mere wish. No, no mere wish. This was something huge. As great and forgiving a guy Bernie was, could he really forgive her?
Whatever the answer, she needed to try.
But her legs would not move.
Her voice felt as if it had been silenced.
Was it normal to be paralysed with fear this way? Or was it not meant to be?
"Mind over matter" Kyra told herself "You can do this. Just get up there, and tell him how you feel. Tell him you're sorry. You need to. You can do this. You can do this"
But she couldn't.
Or rather, she was beaten to it.

"I'll be right back" Milton muttered to her, before quickly standing up and walking over to Needy. Evidently he too had been thinking about doing the same thing.

Milton seemed to be talking to Bernie for ages. Or maybe it just felt longer because Kyra felt that it was her turn next, it was inevitable. Her legs began to shake and her heart pounded in her chest. Then, her stomach became queasy and she felt the need to throw up.
It was all in her head though. The nerves were finally getting to her.

Then, something she didn't think would happen did. As Milton was walking away he was called back.

Quote:

"It's alright." Needy consoled, "You did what you thought was best, with the information you had. You couldn't have known."

As if by a miracle, Kyra's spirit was calmed. Her heart no longer pounded violently, and her legs stopped shaking.
Her stomach felt ill at ease still, but then it changed and started to feel warm, and as that warmth rose up towards her chest, she realised it was no longer fear that she felt, but love. Never before had she felt love in her heart so literally. In fact, had she been the cynical type, she might have just thrown up there and then at thinking such a thing.

Before long, Milton had returned and sat down beside her, only he was not alone.

As Bernie stood over her, those feelings she had just conquered came rushing back to her.
There was no turning back now. The moment was upon her.
There was nobody to lean on now, Milton had left, and the seat was now occupied by him

How could there be a guy like him? Who could be so big as to come up to me? After what I've done?
Kyra's love welled up in her heart once more, rising up even further until it pushed out some tears from her eyes.
She tried to cover them but realised it would be of no use. Soon, she wouldn't be able to hild them back

"Hey" he whispered softly, then after a lifetime seemed to have passed "Are you okay?"

His voice reminded her of her father, back when times were really good. When he would tuck her into bed and read her a story. Or later on in life, when she was in her teens crying over yet another bad boyfriend, he was there for her, proving to be a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on. Her protector. When she was a girl, her father was the love of her life, the one person she could rely on and turn to.
Now he was gone, Bernie was the only one who ever came close to filling that role.
And now it seemed she had him back again.

Kyra remained with her head down, daring not to meet his gaze. She wanted to. She wanted to so badly.
Then Needy repeated "hey", and slowly reached for her right hand as it sat in her lap.
Gently grasping it and holding it in his own, he drew it towards him, urging her to look at him

It was more than enough to break her.
She gave in, following her hand with her eyes, raising her head until she met his own gaze.
Then the tears dropped. Pouring from her eyes as she gasped "Bernie"
Quickly he pulls her in close, embracing her.
"I'm sorry" she sobs into his shoulder "I'm sorry"
Needy strokes her hair as he replies "Its ok, it's ok"
She breaks down completely, holding onto his arm tightly, desperate to not let him go, as she repeatedly apologises.
"It's alright" Needy attempts to consol her, as he holds her just as tightly.

They sat that was for a couple of minutes before they were interrupted as Safe burst in

Quote:

“SR, Needy, Soul…. Rosie too, I’ll need you help back here. I’ve got a little parting gift for our ‘friends’.”

Kyra pulled her tear-soaked face from Needy's shoulder and sat back down properly in her chair.

Needy looked at her, then at Safe, then back at Kyra again.

As he contemplated whether or not to leave her, back up came in the form of Jack.

"Don't worry, I got this one" he said matter-of-factly, walking past the seated couple towards Safe. "What do you need?"

Kyra looked at Needy. "Don't they need you?"

Needy smiled "No, they can handle this."

"But..."

"I need you" Needy confessed

Kyra smiled slightly, before Needy pulled her in close to him again. Holding her tightly

Versa watched Needy intentely, as he talked with the people from his past.

Amy poked Versa in the side, breaking her concentration. "Hey, don't be rude."

"Hunh, wha...?" Versa looks at Amy, confused.

Amy nods her head to where Needy was comforting the woman, Kyra. "You were starin'."

"I wasn't... I didn't mean no..." Versa blushes and shakes her head. She leans in close to Amy. "You remember that firefight we got caught in, where Needy got shot? When I had the idea to use the sonic mine to try and sabilize his condition. My foolish, foolish idea..."

"Ya, I 'member. You saved his life." Amy says placing a hand on her friends shoulder.

"Apparently, but at what cost? He's different, changed, and I can't quite put my finger on how."

"Versa, you have more book smarts than anyone I've ever known. If you say somethin' might work, then I know it's gonna." Amy smiles reassuringly at Versa. "Besides, there's your livin' breathin' huggin' proof over there."

Amy's funny finally brings a smile to Versa'a face. "Still... I wish I had my books here. Something ain't right."

Amy stands, pulling Versa up with her. "Let's give them some privacy. Let's see if you can lend some of your book smarts to the handsome doctor. And I can try and distract miss Seryn with talk of baby clothes."

"Fine" Versa mumbles as she gets to her feet,

"C'mon" Amy smiles and turns, completely oblivious to the man that had walked up behind her

"Excuse..." Milton starts but it's too late

Amy walks straight into him, stepping on his feet in the process

"Oh sorry..." she apologises, whilst Milton refrains from bursting out profanities.

Versa cringes with embarassment for her friend, but can't help but snigger a little

"Sorry, I wasn't paying attention" Amy repeats

"No, its alright" Milton replies, gritting his teeth slightly. Surprising how much pain one can be in considering the young lady didn't look that heavy.

"You'll have to pardon Amy," Versa butts in. "She can be a bit clumsy".

Amy turns her head back quickly, her eyes telling her friend to "shut up!" Versa got a little bit of satisfaction from her statement after having being told off only minutes before for being nosy, but now she was begininng to realise that her friend just might have a thing for their new passenger. And that just made it funnier.

Amy smiled nervously before repeating "sorry."

"It's alright" Milton confirmed. It was. In fact, he imagined if she had accidentally stabbed him, he would have been ok with that. Everything seemed ok now. It was as if talking with Needy had lifted all his anxieties, and that now, for the first time in a long time, the future seemed bright. That everything was gonna be ok.

"How you doing anyway?" Amy asked "You settling in ok?" It was a stupid question, she realised that straight away, he'd hardly been there long enough to make any sort of assessment. But it would seem even dumber if she tried to take the question back.

"Yeah, I guess" Milton replied, smiling.

Versa looked at the pair of them, feeling slightly sick. Again she butted in to save them, and herself, from making it more uncomfortable. "We're off to see how Seryn's coming. You wanna come?"
Then thinking to herself "Wait, why did I just ask him to come along with us? Am I crazy"

"Sure" he replied

"Dammit" Versa thought, then feigning a smile she exclaimed "Great"

As they walked towards the room Seryn was being kept, Versa broke the silence with "So, what's the story with Needy and his friend?"

Amy shot Versa a glance for her directness, then looked at Milton, hoping he would divulge the answer. Might have been nosy, but she couldn't help her curiosity.

Milton sighed for a second.

"Well you don't have to tell us if you don't want to" Amy jumped in. "It's just that, well we've known Needy for a while now, and well, he's been acting a bit strange lately. It might help to explain a few things"

"Quick thinking girl!" Versa silently congratualted her friend.

"Is that right?" Milton asked "How has he been acting?"

Amy looked at Versa, then back at Milton. "Where do we begin?"
---

OOC: Hope that's ok Safe, and doesn't sound so out of character for Versa and Amy. You did at one point suggest Sarah Chalke for Amy (before changing it to Mira Sorvino I believe), and since I've been watching a lot of Scrubs lately, writing an awkward pairing seemed to just come natural. Let me know if its off, and I can alter it.
I've left the story a bit open at this point, I just figured it was about time Needy's friends understand exactly what he's been through, before I move on with his story (Yes, I've got things planned)

SERYN

Amy, still talking awkwardly with Milton approached the room Sykes had appropriated as an infirmary and pushed the button to open the door. Her back turned, all her attention focused on Milton, she didn't see the bed pan hurtling towards her.

Milton did however, and pulled her out of the way, swinging her round and pulling her closer into him, shielding her with his body. The bedpan hit him just above his ear, and from behind them Versa wondered how fate always managed these things in such ridiculous ways.

She grinned as both of them, almost floored, fussed over each other with much gazing into eyes and overt worrying.
Then she turned round and gasped at the scene that confronted her.

Seryn sat on the floor, still dishevelled and bloody, she'd obvious tried to walk towards where Sykes was working with rapid movements over a blanket on the sideboard, but hadn't been able to makes it.
It was absolutely soundless. other than the brush of Sykes' hands accross the blankets and the other soft sounds of his movements, then was no noise, not until it was broken by Seryns cracked whisper.

"Is he dead?"

Versa gasped, and Serynd hand tightened on the edge of a tray that had fallen to the floor, but didn't throw it. Sykes voice stopped her "No, he's alive... he's strong, his breathing, everything, his heart is fine now... can you not see it? He turned the monitor near him to face Seryn and Versa cought a view of healthy looking vital signs so what was wrong?

"So why isn't he making any noise? whats wrong with him?"

Sykes bundled up the tiny little baby and brought him over to see his mother - she looked down at him and saw that it was true - he was a perfectly healthy looking child, dark ringlets dusted his head, and bright green eyes gazed unwaveringly up at her. "Isn't that unusual? "
"Yes, i think... you need to meet him, you're ok for now, hold him a while" Sykes cought sight of Versa and beckoned her over, and both of them helped the limp Seryn onto the bed again "Sit for a while, i'm going to go find stuff i need... stay with her?" Versa nodded, and he swiftly left the room.

"He perfect - beautiful eyes!" Versa grinned down at the other woman, but got only a sad smile in return.

"Yes, he's beautiful, but... i think i've damaged him. Why isn't he crying?" Versa bit her lips and stared at the door, willing the doctor to come back.

Gagh! Doom and Gloom! It ok, no big drama - i just figured you couldn't mess with a pregnancy like she did and not have something go wrong... but no horrible deaths, in fact i think the outcome may be very interesting... but i'm still toying with that idea, so you'll all have to wait and see.

OOC: Excellent characterisations! Both you and Seryn!
I had forgotten what a good story this was. Even the bit players like Sykes, Kyra, Milton, Vixen, Jack, Amy, Versa and Flechette are well fleshed out.
I just need to figure out the layout of the ISSCV to fit our story. I'll get back to you on that...

NEEDY

The road to Hel is paved with good intentions

OOC: Seryn! I was expecting something "non-gloomy" from you! My post is just going to make it even more depressing
No talkiness done for Milton and Amy, but here's Clayton's part, which may be a pre-cursor to future events

---

There was one story that stood out of the rest. One that had peaked Clayton's interest when it first hit the news a little over a year ago, and admittedly one that he'd forgotten about until now.
It's a tale of a girl...

"What can you tell us about Claire?" Clayton asked, getting straight down to business.
Opposite him sat Alex Tamworth, a former bartender in his late twenties whose stubble and large bags under his eyes indicated he hadn't had much sleep

"What do you wanna know?" Tamworth asked the reporter and his silent colleague. Truth be told, he had had enough of reporters last year when they first started interviewing him but I guess thats the price you pay when your girlfriend goes nuts and starts killing people.
Even so, spilling the deep dark secrets of a lover still sat uneasy with Alex.

"Listen." Clayton said, dropping the straight reporter act and leaned forward. "I know you're probably wondering where the hell I get off, dragging up the past like this, but I need to know about Claire. I've read the news, I know how everything all ended, but that's not what I'm interested in. I wanna know how it started. I wanna find out what happened to her."

Alex paused for a second, still not quite understanding what their agenda was, or what they were going to do with the information.
"Why? You writing a biography?"

Clayton shook his head and confessed, "No. Please, we're not here to cause trouble, or to sully her name. If anything, we might be able to put your mind at rest, to help you understand the reason why she did what she did."

Alex stood up. He couldn't believe their nerve. They came here to get infomation out of him, and now they were doing it under the guise of helping him! "You know what, I think you're full of fei hua." It had taken him over a year to get over the tragedy, and now here two men were trying to make sure he never forgot it. "Get out"

Clayton began to rise, holding his hands up in a defensive apologetic gesture "Wait..."

"Get out. I don't wanna hear it"

"Sit down." The second man ordered politely

"Sorry?" Alex asked, not quite believing what he just heard.

"Take a seat Mr Tamworth"

Strangely enough, Alex complied without so much as a hesitation. He didn't quite understand it, other than it seemed like a perfectly logical thing to do

"My name is Robert" he said calmly "We don't mean to cause you any stress. We just need for you to tell us about Claire."

"Yes. Of course" Alex replied, his spirit instantly calmed. Then, after thinking for a moment, he started relating to them the story.

"She was a great girl. Beautiful. Bit timid at first, but when you got to know her, she was... She was just amazing, through and through. But then, one crazy random night a guy comes up to demanding cash and... she was killed."

Robert and Clayton listened intently to the story, waiting for him to continue

"Then, the craziest thing happened. She was fine. Everything was fine."

Suddenly the story began to sound oddly familiar

NEEDY

The road to Hel is paved with good intentions

"That night at the hospital was one I'll never forget" Alex continued. "Her brother had been with her and brought her in. He was the one that told me - that the doctor's couldn't resuscitate her, that there was too much blood loss. But I had to see it for myself.
"I can't get that image out of my head. She laid there still as anything. Her body had been covered, but the blood seeped through the covers from where he had stabbed her. I looked at her for ages and... it didn't seem like her. It was like a mannequin of her. Just a shell. But she was gone, there was no doubt of it."

Tears rolled down the face of Alex as he relived it.

"About a half hour later, her parents arrived and I went to meet them, to see them. But, when I brought them back with me to see her... it was like, something out of a dream. She was fine. Everything was fine. The wounds which were once gaping cuts, now seemed so small, as if they had already begun to heal. And she was breathing. Shallow breaths, but breathing nonetheless. She opened her eyes and... I couldn't believe it. It was like a dream. An incredbily wonderful dream, and one that I didn't want to wake up from.
"The doctor's couldn't believe it either. It made the papers that a woman had miraculously come back to life, but soon that went away. It seems the doctors didn't want to seem like idiots who couldn't tell if someone was alive or dead, and so naturally told the reporters that the news had merely been embellished upon and was nothing more than the result of the hard work of surgeons.
"But it wasn't. I know. I was there. It was a miracle. It had to have been"

"What happened next?" Robert asked

"Oh, afterwards, it was great. I had her back. Only, things seemed different. She seemed different."

"How?"

"Distant, I guess. And there were things she would just come out with. Strange sayings as if, I dunno, she was talking to someone else.
"Maria, her mum, she just said that it was her just learning to cope with what she had been through, that she'd been through a lot and I should probably just give her some space."

"So?" Robert prompted

"So I did. I gave her her space. Let her do her thing. But things just got worse."

"How do you mean?"

"She would say things, I mean to me, crazy things about how things "should be", and how she was gonna "make things right", that it was her "destiny". I tell ya, that was when I felt I should do something."

"So what did you do?"

"I talked to her. Told her how it sounded, and that maybe she should talk to someone about what she was going through."

"You mean like a shrink?" Clayton asked

Alex looked at him with piercing eyes, as if he had just been disturbed from his sleep. But then, Robert stepped in and put him back on course

"Please, continue"

Alex took a deep breath and carried on. "I just knew that someone had to get through to her. But she wouldn't hear it. She cut me off, wouldn't talk to me anymore. Even got her parents to stop talking to me too. I'm sure she told them some story that they would believe, that would urge them not to talk to me. I mean, before, I was like a son to her parents, then they didn't want to know me."

"She changed." Robert summed up

"Like you wouldn't believe."

Alex sat back in his chair, defeated. "I didn't hear from her for months. Then one night, I just... I don't know how to explain it, I just felt I needed to see her, that it was really important. But when I called at her place she wasn't there. So I went to her brother's..."

He leaned forward as he contemplated what he was going to say. The truth he hadn't spoken about since the news died down.

"The door was open, and there he was. Dead. The room was a bloody mess. I... I should have called the police then I guess, but I wasn't thinking. I just went straight to her parents. And them too... cut up. The neighbours they were friend's with didn't report it cos, well she got them too. I called the authorities then. I knew she was the one who had done it, but I didn't dare tell them that. I didn't stick around either. I knew how things looked, I would have been first on the list of suspects. But I didn't know where to go. I called a couple of her friends but didn't get an answer. Later I found out she got them too. So I went home. I couldn't think straight, so I just went home. And there she was."

Clayton's face was white as he imagined the horror of the situation

Alex's face too was devoid of colour, and his expression was cold and blank. That was the only way he could get through telling the story, if he was merely a narrator, not a participant in it.

"Her hands had been scrubbed clean, as if she had done it instinctively after each murder. But her shirt was stained with blood, and her shoes too. She just stood there, in the dark of my room. A knife in her hand at the ready. I guess she knew I was expecting it, so didn't even bother to hide her weapon. Or... I don't know. I can't even guess at what she was thinking. She didn't say anything, not for ages. I stared at her, and she stared right back. Then quite simply I blurted out "Claire, what have you done?" She didn't respond at first, then she just said in that sweet innocent voice, "I had to do it. It was destiny."
"I mean, what do you say to that?"

"What did you say?" Robert asked

"I said "No. It was you." And I-I started to break down then and there. She was the love of my life and then there she was, standing before me, and she was nothing like the person I knew. She wasn't. She was just a shell. I guess the person I knew died in that hospital."

"And she tried to kill you?" Robert probed.

"No. She dropped the knife. And she said-she said..."

Alex started to break down

"What? What did she say?"

"She said "It wasn't me. Sarah told me to do it. Said I had to."

"Who's Sarah?"

"Sarah? Sarah was her sister. She died when Claire was ten."

Robert paused. "You think Claire was following guidance from ghosts?"

"Will you listen to yourself?" Alex snapped. "This wasn't ghosts, or destiny. This was one person losing her mind and k... And killing everyone she held so dear."

"Time's up" The guard interrupts.

Clayton and Robert look up at him, as does Alex sitting at the other side of the table, his wrists still handcuffed together.

As they began to rise, Clayton asks "Just one more thing. Why didn't you plead your case? Why take the fall for her? You didn't kill those people"

"No, but I killed her."

"Out of self-defense..."

"No. Out of anger. Out of frustration. I killed her because I couldn't bear to see her like that. She had stopped being the person I loved a long time ago."

"Still, you shouldn't be here" Clayton admonished

Alex looked up at him as the guard began to take him away. "I've nowhere else to be. Everything I've ever loved is gone"

Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges

With just enough haste Wisp pulled the ship into a steep climb and broke atmo. The sky darkened and Stars burst into the canopy as the clouds disapated. He took a quick glance over the sensors and pointed the ship in a direction towards Jiangyin, It was close enough to get there in a day or so yet far enough from the Core to avoid some hastle.

It had dirt, fuel, and doctoring for the bairn. With any luck they could get five minutes peace before the next adventure, and with a few key members of the resistance with them adventure could come at any time.

Hands appeared on each of Wisps shoulders bringing a reassuring squeeze.

"Your tense as a Father on date night, relax for god sakes" Vixens words were warm yet slightly out of character: empathy used to be a swear word to her.

"Whats got into you all of a sudden??" Wisp shot back in a humoured tone without turning around. Vixens hands clamped down causing Wisp to wince and turn his head to her.

"Need??" He spoke in a high pitched exagerated whine

"Gosa and giggles" she then turned and returned to her seat.

"Thats more like it"

OOC:
SO I've decided to cast Marc Blucas as Needy. Been rewatching Buffy episodes lately and he seems like the perfect candidate - he's got that sweet goody-two-shoes look most of the time, but as you can see from my user pic, he also can look quite a dark character. Which just fits perfectly.

I'm working on getting pics for all the characters so that I can post them all in a seperate Character thread (along with character desriptions and history)

Evangeline Lilly is still Kyra though

APRILISE

When the screaming had started, the brats had run straight to her, fear evident in their young faces. They had heard a lot of screaming in their young lives, by themselves, by other kids, by strangers. The only time they heard adults screaming though it usually meant they were going to be hurt soon.

It was another reminder of why she was going to kill Truth when he woke up. He was the one who should be dealing with the hysterical brats.

Looking over to see what was going on Spider paled. No way, dealing with the brats was one thing, she was not going to be explaining the birds and the bees to the brats, and newborns newborns were the worst type of brat.

Ok so her only real experience with newborns were her stepfathers children, and children of other street rats, but still.

Leading the two girls away she stumbled as the ship lurched, loosing her balance, and unconsiousness as her head hit the wall.

Shadow and Ghost watched thir guardian fall as the screams still echoed around them. Then they hid.

OOC: sorry this isn't so great. I kinda lost track of what was going on. I'll be better though.

Safe dropped heavily into the co-pilots chair next to Wisp. "Nice flyin' back there."

Wisp nodded absently, still trying to figue out how far he could trust Vixen or better yet what he was going to do about her or, for that matter, with her.

"For what it's worth, you'd have gone far if you had've stayed with the program." Safe said looking over the star charts and scanning for anyone following.

Wisp looked up abruptly, his eyes narrowing with suspicion, How did he know? "Learn't all I needed...."

Safe smiles wearily at Wisp. "Relax. I went through the same program. The skills were an obvious giveaway." Safe returns to looking over the charts. "I followed the program all the way through like a good soldier, commendations, my own command, and look what I got out of it... more scars than I can count, inside and out, no family and a price on my head. I got no place to judge you or your actions."

OOC: still working on the ISSCV layout.

Edit: Ok here it is including a rough floorplan. Let me know if it fits. i can make adjustments.

ooc - it's great! sorry for having to add in a separate room - i just wasn't doing it all with an audince, even in makebelieveland!

but yes - its what i thought, theres basically one larger area where everyone is and a few other spaces, but now that you've added in a shower room..."

Seryn returned from the wash room, keeping her eyes down as she walked through the main area, still a little awkward, extremely tired and very sore. She entered the lab and went over to the makesift bed that had been made up for the baby. He was sleeping, soft little breaths sounding regularly - he looked adorable, absolutely perfect, and she grinned - any other baby and she would have been recoiling in horror from his squished and reddened looks - wizened old features better suited to an octegenarian.
He opened his eyes and looked up at her - she was no expert but she would have sworn that was unusual, especially as he seemed to have no trouble at all focusing on her. He still hadn't made any noise - no cry's, nothing. She'd fed him, put him down and he'd been perfectly calm - it was crazy.
But he was absolutley healthy, Sykes had tried every test he could under their conditions, and apart from some elevated brain activity, he was perfectly normal. She smiled at him and trying to remember all of the things female relatives had yelled at her when she'd been introduced to various cousins, she carried him over to her bench and settled down, playing with his tiny hands, until the others came back.

Satisfied that no one was following them, Safe stood and stretched. “I gonna grab some shut-eye. I spell you at the controls in about two hours, and then Jack and Soul. If you need me before then, just holler.”

Exiting the cockpit, Safe enters the med-lab.

Seryn sits silently watching her newborn as Safe approaches, not fully trusting herself to look up.

“Have you decided on a name yet?” Safe asks tickling the baby’s foot. The intelligence and alertness behind the eyes of the newborn Safe found a little disconcerting.

“ummm… not… well, not quite yet.” Seryn says softly, still not making eye contact.

“I’ve always liked the name Kurt…” Safe let the sentence trail off as ghosts from the past briefly haunted him. “I’m sure you’ll find a name that fits. He’ll do just fine.”

Seryn finally meets Safe eyes, “How do you know? How can you be so sure??”

“I know his mom.” Safe smiles and squeezes Seryns shoulder.

Walking over to the other bed, Safe drops onto it. He crosses his feet, pulls his hat down over his eyes and folds his hands behind his head.

NEEDY

The road to Hel is paved with good intentions

"He'd lost a lot of blood, we didn't think he was going to make it" Versa told the story.

Milton listened intently to her from across the small table, occasionally stealing moments to look at Amy who sat beside him.

"So I, well its a bit complicated, but basically I came up with the idea of using one of the sonic mines to slow down his deterioration."

"You could do that?" Milton was astonished

"Well, thats the thing. We weren't sure, but we were out of options. I guess you could say we were successful, I mean he's here now..."

"I can feel a but", Milton said

Amy looked down to the space between them, checking out her own backside. "It's not mine"

Milton looked at her confused, until he finally got the joke and a small smile appeared on his face.

Versa rolled her eyes and glared at Amy. "Have you finished?"

Amy's face dropped and then, when Milton wasn't looking, pulled a face at her friend

"As I was saying, it seemed ok, but..." She paused, making sure Amy wasn't going to slip in with another joke. "I think, no, I know, the experience changed him."

"How?"

"It was as if his body had, for want of a better word, mutated. Not disfigured or anything, but that it had been altered somehow by the effects of the mine. Not long after, as the crew were attempting to escape, he was able to take out numerous soldier and... well it appeared as if his body had become indestructable. Or at least, was able to withstand remarkable injuries, and recover in no time."

"You mean... Kyra's gunshot. I heard he... he survived her shooting him, when he couldn't possibly."

"The thing is," Amy butted in, "That's not even half the story. There's so much that has happened to Needy that we can't explain, that he can't explain. For a time he stayed on a vessel known as the SereniTree. Only when he arrived, people say he had already been there months before. There was footage of him having been on the ship, though he claims he had never previously set foot on the ship before. I don't really know what came of that. Its almost as mysterious with how the crew arrived here."

"What do you mean?" Milton asked, apparently getting more and more confused.

"Don't confuse him with more details" Versa told her

"No, I wanna know" Milton encouraged her

"Well, we weren't here, but apparently, none of the crew really know how they arrived together. It was as if the gods had grabbed them all and spat them out at the other side of the 'verse. They don't really seem to remember."

"Okaaaay" Milton responded uneasily.

"That's beside the point though," Versa jumped in again "its ancient history." Then addressing Milton directly "What can you tell us? About Needy, and his girl. About his life."

Milton looked at her, then at Amy, willing things to slow down. "Wait, hold on a second, I thought you said there was more to it. What happened to Needy. What's wrong with him?"

Versa remained silent. Perhaps she had said too much. So Amy enlightened him instead

"Well, the way I hear it, is after what happened to him, he had some sort of religious epiphany."

Milton scrunched his face, it didn't sound much like the Needy he knew. He never had been very religious.

"He started talking about fate and destiny... and something about an angel."

"An angel?" Milton really couldn't believe what he was hearing now. Were they talking about the same guy he knew?

"Yeah, apparently. He believed an angel was leading him to his destiny... or something." Amy shrugged

"Wait, how do you know all this?"

Versa leaned in and whispered "I think most of it is down to what he said to some of them on a drunken night when they first arrived here."

Milton sat back.

"Well you know what they say, a drunk man is an honest man" Amy said

"No they don't" Versa replied

"Alright, alright" Milton stopped them from arguing. "I think, maybe... well I don't know." He wanted to say it all sounded crazy, but he didn't want to offend Amy. "I guess anything is possible right"

"Right." Amy said, concealing a smile as she stared at him.

"So. What's the story on him and his girl?"

Milton sighed. I guess he had to hold up his end of the bargain. They had told him what he wanted to know. Now I suppose it wouldn't harm anyone for them to know Needy's history with Kyra.

NEEDY

The road to Hel is paved with good intentions

A beacon called out in the vastness of space.

S.O.S.

A ship, dead in the water

A small private vessel meant for holding less than a dozen souls.
The vessel was named Dwarf, but it's original name had been lost for generations

It's occupants were innocent, now trapped in a ship that had no longer had means to fly.
It was a miracle Reavers had not yet found them and raped and pillaged everything inside.
Though, if they had, they would have discovered much more than they could have ever imagined in their murderous minds.
A dark secret
A weapon that could destroy the alliance.

But they had not been found.

No, not yet.

But necessities were sparse - food, oxygen - and so the message beeped.

S.O.S.

Someone surely would find them.
Would provide assistance

Someone smart.
And hopefully someone who despised the alliance as much as the occupants of the ship did.

A yellow blip Jumped onto Wisp's display on the upper left hand corner. It wasnt a Friend or a foe and they werent gonna run across it so really it was just useless information. If Wisp had been doing something he would have just ignored it but as all he was doing was counting the stars he decided to throw out a scan.

Pressing a few buttons the map zoomed into the yellow blip and a rough EM image popped up with statistical details beside it. The vessel was only small but something was wrong on the details. Speed was reading N/A. No vessel should be a drift at this distance from everywhere.

"Thats odd..." Wisp mumbled to himself " I wonder" pressing a few more buttons he did a diagnostic on incoming signals and sure enough burried in a low Wavelength signal was an SOS signal. The band was much lower than would have usally been picked out.

The message was garbled but the SOS digital code came through clear.

"Why The hell is that burried so far down??" As Wisp spoke SR appeared over his shoulder.

"Thats an independance frequency whos broadcasting on that??" He said in a ponderous tone. "Hit a signal back to them same carrier wave see whats shaking"

APRILISE

Ghost wandered around aimlessly. She wasn't scared anymore, the loud noises and shaking had stopped. She wasn't scared cause she was an explorer. Explorers had lots of fun.

Hearing a strange noise, she tiptoed into another room and got closer to inspect what was making it. There were no adults around that she could see, exploring was safer when there were no adults around.

A small thing was laying wrapped in a blanket. It looked like a kid, but she had never seen a kid that small before. She wondered where it came from.

"Hi" she said quietly slowly reaching a hand out to touch the mysterious thing.

In another part of the ship Shadow stood watching Safe and Wisp, from the doorway, as they piloted. If she stayed near the door she could hide if the adults noticed her, but the lights and switches were alluring to the young girl. Seeing the adults were distracted she snuck in silently peering curiously at the lights and switches, her gaze flickering between them, the adults, and the view outside.

In two other parts of the ship, two pairs of eyes opened slowly. *Why am I laying here?* the owners' of the eyes thought unknowingly echoing each other as they slowly regained consiousness.

NEEDY

The road to Hel is paved with good intentions

OOC: Intriguing stuff! Can't wait for the next part Aprilise.

---

Aboard the sleeping vessel, a scruffy looking woman slept in the pilot's chair. Her dark dishevelled hair was short in length, and apparently needed a good wash. Her lip twitched as she dreamt about what to say to her no good parents-long gone but still remembered. The femlae pilot was in her late twenties, though her worn out appearance made her look a decade older at least.

Beep.

A yellow light flickered on the dash board.

Beep beep.

A slight smile appeared on the pilot's face. Her name was Maxine, and right now she was dreaming of telling her lousy parents where to shove their expectations.

Beep beep beep.

The beacon alert would beep once. Then twice. Three times. Finally four times. After that, it would reset to one beep. Normally the one beep would be enough to make the pilot aware of an incoming hail. But this pilot was tired. And right now, the only pleasure in life she got was in her dreams.

Beep beep beep beep.

Maxine's eyelids fluttered, and she began to stir.

Yawning she opened one eye

"Did I hear something?" she pondered, before deciding that she must have just been dreaming.
Then, she was proven wrong.

Beep.

She sat up straight, removing her feet from the dashboard and setting them on the floor

Beep beep.

A signal.

"We're being hailed!" she realised. "Help. It's gotta be"

Maxine punched a few keys in front of her, which brought up the diagnostic.

A cargo ship, large enough to hold a dozen or so people, and it was heading for them.

Finally, help had arrived... hopefully

Maxine got to her feet and, without even responding to the message, ran to the doorway.

The ship was quiet, but not for long. Undoubtedly, the rest of the crew had also took this chance to get some sleep - what little they could at least - but now was not the time. Help had arrived. Or at the very least, visitors had.

Maxine pressed hard on the large red pad situated near the door causing a loud alarm to sound throughout the ship.

Not staying still for one second, the frazzled female ran for the quarters, in particular the shared room that belonged to Liam and his wife.

Before she had the chance to intrude, Liam had opened the door and met the pilot halfway.

"What is it?" he asked, his voice husky.

"We've been hailed. Cargo ship, real close" Maxine rattled off quickly

"Alliance?" he asked

"Don't think so. I'd say they were independents"

"How can you be sure?"

"Hey." She paused and gave him a stare. "It's me"

"Yeah, okay". Liam should have known better than to question the instincts of his pilot. She'd not been wrong yet.

"Still... it wouldn't hurt us to take precautions" She added

"Right. I'll take care of it."

Liam got to work whilst his wife got changed and Maxine headed back to the bridge.

They had all made sacrifices to get to where they were. To get the job done. They couldn't risk it all being for nought. Whether the other ship was friendly or not was beside the point. There are always loose cannons, and this mission was too important to screw up.

Maxine reached her station and typed a message back - evidently both the audio and visual transmitters were not working as well as they could.

"OUT OF GAS. REQUIRE ASSISTANCE"

Liam reached the room at the end of the corridor, and rushed in.
In front of him was the greatest weapon they had.
Finally, a chance to defeat the alliance.
It couldn't fall into the wrong hands
It needed to be hid.

---

OOC:
Ok, so I've got the ball rolling for now, see what you can do with it. I know what the weapon is, which I'll keep back for now, but nows the chance to have the crew's meet.
The ship is friendly. A private vessel, actually one mainly occupied by a family - Liam being the father. Maxine is a hired pilot though. Among the other crew are three women, Liam's wife, as well as a mature and worldly-wise 17yr old, and a 3 yr old (possibly belonging to the same family)
The rest I haven't decided on, so feel free to make it up as you go along. Can't be too many on the ship though, since its only a small vessel. So I'd guess there's less on board than on our ship.

That is all

NEEDY

The road to Hel is paved with good intentions

OOC: It seems we're having a bit of a dry spell... so I'll try and shake things up a little

"Tah mah de" Versa uttered, the strong words taking Milton by surprise.
Perhaps he hadn't painted the best picture of Kyra, in his recounting of the story between her and Needy. But he had simply stated the facts as best he could.

Needy was a good guy.
He did what he could to make people's lives easier. Crazily enough, for the most part, he put them ahead of himself. Didn't ask for much.
So when a woman entered his life, one that seemed to be the one he'd been searching for since he was a young boy, well he felt he'd hit the jackpot.
She didn't frown upon his work, like his family and friends back home had; she didn't try to change him, like the wives of those same friends, no she seemed to accept him as he was.
He fell in love with her. Absolutely.
He wanted to start a fresh. He got her to call him Bernie, a name he hadn't gone by since he was a child.
He would have given up his job for her, hell he would have given his life for her.
Then the truth came out.
He found out it had been a lie.
That the woman he called Grace was actually a reporter named Kyra, and that she had been gone to him for the sole purpose of gathering information on him and his clientele. An expose on the life of a companion.
She wasn't interested in him, only in what she could get out of him, to boost her own career.

Versa turned back to look in the direction of the girl in question, who remained now in Needy's caring arms.
"What a bitch"

But there was more to the story that Milton hadn't revealed.
Kyra had apparently fallen for Needy. She never wanted to do the story to begin with, it was a cold and heartless assignment. But she had to. For the sake of her own job, she had to do this one thing. Only, the more she got to know him, the harder it became to tell him the truth. Until it all fell apart.
She didn't turn in the story. She couldn't. But it was printed nevertheless. Her boss thought he was doing the right thing, and maybe he was, for her sake. But not for his, not for Needy's.
It almost cost him his license.
The report never included his name, but the list of clients that did get out lead to him.
He played it lowkey for a while, and he never talked to Kyra again. At least, not until after she put a bullet in his head.

"No, listen..." Milton started, trying to balance the story out a bit. "She never wanted it to happen. It just got out of hand I guess. Out of her control"

Milton had never stuck up for Kyra before. Back on Boros, whenever the subject of her came up, he would always be the first to tear her down.
Now, it seemed that he was the only one that could stick up for her. To tell her side of the story, other than the woman herself. But after what he'd told Versa and Amy, he doubted they would listen to her tell her own version of events.

Milton carried on, trying to defend her, but he was for the most part only guessing. "Supposing" what Kyra must have felt.
And it didn't seem to be working.
Versa's eyes seemed to indicate nothing but contempt for the woman that had recently taken up space on their ship.
Amy's face was softer, perhaps feeling sorry for the reporter... or maybe she was just putting it on for Milton's face, who now was trying to make amends for all the things he had ever said about her.
"If Needy can forgive her, perhaps I should give her the benefit of the doubt"

"Look sharp folks" Safe said, walking onto the scene.

The three of them turned their heads to face him.

"Wisp's picked up a distress signal. There's a dead duck out there, we're gonna see if we can lend some assistance."

"Independents?" Amy asked, almost hopeful.

"Not sure yet. Seems that way. Still, don't want any surprises, so I'm telling you like just as I told the others, look sharp"

Milton looked at Amy and Versa who seemed to be taking it all in. "Look sharp? You want us to dress up?"

Versa sniggered a little, breaking the pensive look she had displayed only moments earlier.

"He means, look alert" Amy offered

"Oh right... I knew that" Milton replied, somewhat embarrassed. How was he to know what he meant? Different communities, different meanings.

Safe walked off to pass the message onto the others, as Wisp alligned the ship ready to dock.

"Here goes nothing"

NEEDY

The road to Hel is paved with good intentions

On the Dwarf, Liam shut the door to the storage closet and padlocked it. The weapon will be safe in there. So long as these rescuers aren't the nosy type.

In another room, Linda stared into the eyes of her doll. The blonde naked figurine was worn and scratched, but Linda loved it nevertheless. It was the only one she had ever seen, let alone owned. She treasured it and carried it with her wherever she went. She was never alone as long as she held onto it tight. And Linda had a mighty fine grip for a three year old.

"Hey girl" a voice called from the doorway.
Walking into the room, Julie hugged Linda and lifted her onto the bed.
Julie was an attractive seventeen year old with chestnut coloured hair, but unlike most girls her own age, she was responsible and mature beyond her years. And even though many men had said she was beautiful, she never thought anything of it. She only cared about one thing.
Taking care of Linda.

"I'm here now. We're just going to wait until father says it's ok. Wait until we know its safe."

Julie held Linda in her arms

"Julie. Are other children coming?" Linda asked innocently.

"Maybe baby, maybe. We'll just wait and see."

--

Soul stood by the airlock waiting for the "all clear" from Wisp.
Beside him stood Safe loyally.

"What you thinking?" Safe asked.

"I'm... hoping, that this is gonna be worth our trouble. After what we've been through, we really don't need any more surprises."

--

Liam walked past his room as he headed for the docking bay. The visitors would soon be ready to come on board, if they weren't already.

"Hey" his wife called, coming out of their room.

"Hey, what you doing?" he asked concerned

"I'm coming to meet the people that are giving us a helping hand" she replied

"It might not be safe"

"Now, if it wasn't safe, you wouldn't be opening the door to them, ain't that right?"

Liam couldn't help but smile. She was right on the money. Still, it was in his nature to be protective. He also knew though, that he couldn't talk her out of it, unless danger was apparent... and even then, his arguments might not be effective.
She was a strong woman, and had been through a lot in her time.

"C'mon" she said, walking by him and leading the way.

Yep. Ciaran was a strong woman.

SERYN

Ooc - hey, sorry i've been gone a while - i liked all the posts Needy! The good news is this post will bring me back into the general action - not back up to full strength by any means, and toting a baby - so don't have me leaping over tables or getting into firefights just yet, but I'm Back!.

Seryn examined all of the little tiny bits of clothing laid out on the bench - little brightly coloured frivilous romper suits bought in happier times - it had all seemed like such a good idea, to 're-activate' the pregnancy, have the tot while she was in a stable place. Ah well, best laid plans...

Selecting the stuff she needed, plus extra stuff to cater to her paranoia she stowed the rest of her belongings - her swords and pistols, the cross bow she'd stolen from the Tree's armoury, her nicer clothes and other bits of frippery in a locker. Getting dressed she did a small victory dance after fitting into her favorite pants again - ok so there was flab, but that would go soon enough surely - wouldn't it? But there they were - all supple, worn in and comfy as hell.

She picked up the significantly lighter bag - the technology that let her fit huge amounts of stuff into what looked like a medium sized satchel was great - but the wieght, although not real full weight was still considerable when everything was in it.

For now she was just gald all of the babies stuff fitted in and she didn't look like the supply wagon for an entire army.

Back in the medical bay she paused - she'd left him sleeping, but apparently now he was wide awake and at home to visitors. Little Ghost stood on tip toe, staring down into the crib Sykes had mocked up while he played with his finger and blew bubbles. Ah the cute show - at least he was capable of it. Ghost turned and her smile turned to a nervous frown. Until Seryn smiled, and came over to stand beside her. "Do you want to hold him?" Ghost looked slightly awed but more worried, and she laughed. "Ok then, don't worry - i still think i'm going to break him!"

"What is he called?"
"Well, funny you ask cause i only just decided - his name is Fin - i think you're the first person to know that!"
Ghost smiled, and started to play with Fins toes, before helping Seryn to dress him - commenting a lot on how much he wriggled and how piglets must be easier to dress. Seryn laughed, and after placing Fin in a sling style carrier accross her chest she led the way to the main room.

Where everything was in a lot more of a commotion than she expected - she caught snatches of conversation enough to know that they'd come accross a ship dead in the water, but not what was happening - she saw Soul and Safe by the airlock but the warm little lump in front of her wriggled and she realised she had no desire to be in the thick of whatever it was, so crossing through the room she walked into the cockpit and grinned as soon as they noticed her presence.

"So I go away for a day or so and all hell breaks loose - whatever will I do with you?"

Isn't sanity really a one trick pony, anyway? I mean all you get is one trick, rational thinking! But when you're good and crazy...ooh hoo hoo hoo... the skys the limit!

"Dat's not it's name," Ghost stated defiantly from her position beside Seryn, determined to protect the little things honor. She still wasn't sure what Fin was but he was sure funner than the piglets at the Carson's farm. " and you said a bad words."

Spotting Shadow hiding in the shadows, looking at the glowing control screens, Ghost ran to her giggling. "Come see da thing. I founds it" she said pulling Shadow in the direction of Seryn and the baby.

SOULOFSERENITY

The Man They Call Soul...

The airlock door hissed open slowly, and Soul and Safe peered into the dimly lit room in front of them. Suprisingly clean and organized, the room stretched out a few feet before ending in an other door, which opened even as Soul stared at it. A man walked through it, tall, discheveled, but confident. Soul and the man eyed each other warily for a moment as several more people filed into the room. Keeping his eyes on the first man, Soul took a step across the threshold, when a woman stepped out, and Soul's vision shifted to her face--

A kiss to end all kisses, his heart swelling with love. He tells her everything, all that he is, where he comes from, what he can do. He bares his soul to her, and she smiles back, tears in her eyes. But her response is muffled by the gun blast that takes her from his life. All he can see is an arm with a tattoo of a laughing skull wearing a jester's hat on a red diamond background, an image that will be burned in his mind for the rest of time. She is slipping away, and he can barely hear her last words..."You are...me..." And then she is gone. The woman he loves with every fiber of his being is gone, and his soul cracks under the pressure. He smooths her hair, kisses her cheek, and calls out her name...

"Ciaran..."

"I'm sorry," the man says. "Do you know my wife?"

Soul gulps as he stares into eyes that faded over 50 years earlier.

"Yes. I think I do."

ooc - ooooh! Soul carry on!

Seryn knealt down, surprised by the little girls sudden gregarious mood, and pulled back the fabric sling so that Ghost could begin to fill Shadow in on everything to do with the baby. She watched as Ghost, solemn but proud of her important task, told everyone that his name was Fin, and that he had all the right legs and fingers and stuff.

Scorpianregent said nothing, but silently leant just enough to rest a hand on her shoulder and gently squeeze it, and she smiled at him then turned to Wisp, one raised eyebrow inviting a report.

SAFEAT2ND

As Soul had stepped through the airlock door, Safe had stepped into the doorway, effectively blocking it as Soul made contact. Wisp was on notice at Safe or Soul’s signal to pull away at the sign of trouble, while Jack and Needy manned the inner airlock door. A little caution never got anyone killed, was Safe motto, slapped or punched maybe even bruised, but never killed.

Everything seemed to be going fine until the woman walked through the door.

Safe watched in disbelief as the man, considered by the Alliance to be elusive as smoke, hard as stone and virtually uncatchable, shattered like a porcelain vase.

“Ciaran” Soul whispered.

Safe squinted at the woman and then looked back that the man, looking for some sign of subterfuge but the man looked as puzzled as Safe felt. He obviously wasn’t expecting Soul’s reaction either.

At the same time, Safe was trying to recall the files he had been given years ago on Soul’s background. The name rang a bell, but Safe's tired brain wouldn't let him remember exactly why.

“Everything ok?” Safe asked.

Soul swallowed loudly. "I...I don't know."

"My name is Liam," the man said, stepping forward into the space between Soul and Ciaran. "I'll ask you again, how do you know my wife?"

In that moment, it took all of Soul's inner strength to compose himself.

"My apologies. Your wife reminds me of someone I knew a long time ago."

Liam stared back at him for a moment, and then seemed to accept Soul's answer.

Introductions were made, between Soul, Safe and the other ship, but everyone else on board the ISSCV remained concealed. It was a precaution needed.

Finally, Safe turned and retreated, with Soul following behind; but not before Ciaran caught Soul's eyes again. Soul could see something in her eyes mirroring his own, and once again it took all of his willpower to tear himself away and follow Safe inside.

OOC: Safe, that line about Soul was awesome!

SAFEAT2ND

Once Soul cleared the hatch, Safe poked his head back in the room. “It’s Liam right? Just hang tight. We see what we can scrape up in the way of supplies and repairs to get you on your way again. I’m afraid we can’t offer much.”

Safe made a show of looking embarrassed. “Seems our trip time was seriously underestimated and as a result, the cargo master under equipped us.” He shrugs his shoulders, “What can you do eh? Good help being hard to find and all…”

Safe closes the hatch and shudders, “Cruise director I ain’t.” He turns and looks again at Soul, eyebrow raised. Seeing no explanation was forthcoming and really not expecting one anyway, Safe punches the com. “Versa, Wisp, S.R., we need you back here. Flechette, take the yoke.”

When the three arrive, Soul still stands in stony silence.

All seemed to know what was expected before Safe could ask. Safe opened his mouth to spit out orders and stopped as a realization hit him and hit him hard. This motley band of fugitives or adventurers, were fast becoming a crew, whether they realized it or not. All they needed was a leader and Safe had a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach that it was going to end up being him. When he and Jack had left the corp, Safe had left leadership behind hopefully forever. Safe had wanted to be responsible for his life and his alone. He had had enough of people dying following his orders. That had a way of shaking ones confidence over time.

“See if you can find out what’s wrong with the ship and aid in repairs. I’ll be along in a bit to lend a hand.” Safe said indicating Wisp and Versa. “S.R., Jack, nobody gets past this point. But be polite about it.”

S.R. shifts, clearly not accustomed to taking orders… at least not anymore, but as before, for reasons all his own, he goes along with it.

Safe opens the hatch and steps through with Wisp and Versa in tow. “Liam, this here is Wisp, best electronics hand there is, and Versa, our own encyclopedia. See if they can be of any help. I’ll be back in a bit.”

With that Safe steps back through the hatch in search of Seryn and Needy. S.R. steps into the vacated spot and does his best to look nonchalant.

“Ummm… S.R.?” Jack says idling up beside him, “Stop doing that. You’re scaring them.” Indicating S.R.’s attempt at smiling.

S.R. drops the shark like smile and adopts his usual glower.

“Well, that’s better… I think.” Jack says grinning at S.R. “At least now they don’t think you’re gonna eat ‘em.”

OOC: Thanks Soul!
S.R., let me know if that's not in character and I'll change it. I Kinda got this Clint Eastwood personna in my head for Scorpion. Not without humour but a loner none the less.
Needy, I hope that fits.
