Saw it yesterday and I totally loved it.

Visually, this one topped even the 2nd movie, and that one had looked amazing. The Singapore set, Shipwrecked Alcove, the whole fight at the end!!! WOW. The movie was a bit over-long, probably because of the uber-complicated story. I wish either they'd clarified that a bit or cut it certain things out completely but I still hugely enjoyed it. It's not like the overall plot is hard to understand, just small details!

Johnny Depp outdid himself in this movie (hahahaha), and Kiera Knightley was impressive in her expanded role, she carried it nicely. Geoffrey Rush, yay! It was really awesome to see Barbossa back and working with our guys as opposed to against them, the dynamics were different and worked well. Nice to see Tia Dalma's expanded role, although is it me or was her accent even more wierd this time round?

I like how lots of loose ends were tied up, and how there were certain nods to the first 2 movies. Didn't see the twist coming but that was great, albeit a bit tragic. And the ending is perfect, in my opinion. Cap'n Jack on his own on the open sea? That's all he needs.

Aah, I loved it all, I'll most definitely go watch it again!! One thing does annoy me a leeeettle bit though...

Did anyone catch the bit after the credits, when Elizabeth is standing on a cliff-top 10 years later with her son, and the Dutchman appears with Will, obviously coming ashore for the day? HOW did he get her pregnant if he's supposed to be all heartless and dead?!

Anyway, what did the rest of you think?

Well, Will had that one day before setting off with the Dutchman. Apparently being undead is the same as being alive, with added magic. Mayhaps the child is a half-breed, with a bit of Sea Magic in his own blood. . .

Wouldn't that make an interesting "Pirates: The Next Generation" story. . .

I loved this movie; it almost redeemed the sickening "live-action Looneytunes" that was Pirates II.

My favourite part was Jack's reaction at Will's death. That sudden pause, the way he was suddenly ready to take on the East India Company. . .

Given all the death that follows Jack around, and how he makes a great show of being only out for himself, it was great to see some genuine shock and remorse. I'd imagine there've never been very many people Jack actually cares about; Will and Elizabeth are probably at the top of that list.

And yes, I think Jack was making it up as he went along; that's why he's so unpredictable. Even he doesn't always know what he's going to do next.

Long? Yes. A proper ending to the saga? I would have to say so.

So that was what the "stay after the credits" moment was. I didn't know about it, and I was so pissed when I heard about it AFTER I went to see it.

I have to say that I was really impressed with it. I didn't go in with much expectation, but I ended up being pleasantly surprised.

I loved Jack in that purgatory desert place and how they went sort of avant garde with the whole sequence. Reminded me slightly of TIME BANDITS and just that image of all the rocks turning into crabs that carry the Black Pearl was just perfect, and with Jack trying to catch up.

I think the big thing that made it a step up was Barbossa. He was a real pirate, as opposed to Jack whose more of a pirate wannabe. And Geoffery Rush is one of those actors whose always the best part in any movie. So he was definitely a plus. And Keith Richards showing up was just the biggest wink given to an audience.

And that whirlpool at the end was just amazing.

One thing I wasn't sure about. When Calypso is released and the voodoo priestess turns into a giant and then dissolves into all those creatures, were they crabs or frogs? I couldn't really tell.

I saw this last night, and as much as I love Captain Jack, I really thought Barbossa stole the scenes in so much of the movie. He always had the best lines, the best expressions, his 'eye rolls' crack me up every time.

The Keith Richards as Captain Teague was very enjoyable as well. As well as all of the Pirate Lord's obvious fear of 'breaking the code' and facing his wrath.

Loved the twist with Will at the end, and let's be honest... he'll be a far more responsible guide for souls lost at sea than Jack or Davey ever would have! It seems like a lot of people don't like Will (or Orlando Bloom) and while I am not a raving fan or anything, I still like him.

The only downside of my watching this movie is that when we went to see it, right after we bought the tickets I had the onsetof a blinding headache which I didn't have meds to counter. So having a bad headache for 3 hours was a bit much. I will have to see it again just for that.

I call that the Prettyboy effect. A lot of guys hate Orlando just 'cause he's so easily described as the token hot guy that draws in all the airheaded teenage girls who wouldn't otherwise care about the movie (see LotR).

What this ignores is that, in Orlando's case, the guy really is a good actor, and perfectly suits the role.

I liked it, for all the reasons mentioned above, cept the tying up threads thing.

but i was dissapointed by the way they seemed to set things up and not take them anywhere - Calypso - grows big, gets angry, dissapears with just a whirlpool to show for it - where was the danger to the Pirtate Lords? Revenge? Havoc, all that interesting stuff they threatened? And The Pirate Lords, one comdy converstaion around a table, and they stand and clap as Jack And Liz go it alone. Considering it was a three hour film they still managed to miss a lot out.

And then the fact that Jack still doesn't have the Pearl, and Will and Liz ain't together after the big hooha of him 'making his choice' just makes me think they're setting it up for number 4.

And that means more piraty goodness!

Isn't sanity really a one trick pony, anyway? I mean all you get is one trick, rational thinking! But when you're good and crazy...ooh hoo hoo hoo... the skys the limit!

She would've killed them, if not for Jones being killed (she just wanted him dead more than she wanted them dead --not to mention that she probably wanted to return to her true/unbound form to begin with). Not to mention that anyone who knows anything about mariner legends knows that trying to coerce a Sea God is basically a particularly spectacular way of committing suicide. Like Callisto said, they are changeable and wrathful.

If they had ridden heroically into the breach, they wouldn't be very convincing pirates, would they? I'm kinda surprised they were still there at all when the maelstrom settled.

They wanted to see how it was going to play out. They were willing to stick around and watch the Pearl go up against the Flying Dutchman, but they weren't about to risk their lives helping out. Mostly I think they didn't run when the maelstrom occurred because they were bound by the Code to follow their King and her decision.

The battle was awesome. I'm glad the Jones and Becket got what was coming to them. Norrington I actually felt sorry for when he died, which wasn't something that I'd expected going into the movie. He knew what he was getting into working for Becket, but things got worse than he'd thought they would. I agree that Will makes a better captain of the Dutchman than Jack ever could. Jack just has no concept of responsibility which would cause way too many problems if he were to take over. I loved the ending with Barbossa stealing the Pearl and Jack taking the chart and setting off in the dingy. And the last scene with Elizabeth and her son waiting for Will at the end of the first ten years. Wanna bet the kid grows up to be a pirate. Anyway. overall a very good movie. I can't wait to see it again.

I love my captain

The one thing that I wanted resolved was the story between Jack an Beckett. Obviously they know each other and it is heavily implied in both two and three that Beckett is the one who branded Jack but htere;s more to it that' they just don't tell us. Will's question to Beckett in #2 was never answered. "What mark did he leave on you?" and the scene with Jack and Beckett in #3 were Beckett references betrayal and we find out that what Beckett wants most is Jack dead.
Why?? What is there between them? They taunt me with unexplained backstory!!

Heave ho. Thieves and beggars. Never shall we die.

*edit* Damn. I've seen it twice now and I hadn't heard anything about an after credits bit. Well, I'm planning to take my dad to it in the near future. I'll just have to stick around for it this time.

I saw it this past Wednesday. I was totally confused by the plot, but I'm not one for being able to follow complicate plot lines! LOL

I probably would have enjoyed it more had it not been so long! There were some good moments, but I really liked the second movie best -- because of the silly humor.

As silly as Jack is, I really enjoyed watching him deal with all those pratfalls!

I want to see the stuff after the credits, but I don't think I can take sitting for almost three hours in uncomfortable theater seats again...
Maybe if someone else wants to see it and I go with.

Thank you EvilDino! When I mentioned this frustration to my friends, I got blank looks in return. Apparently, they weren't paying taht much attention.
Businesswise though it is a smart move. Leaves something for them to explain in some format. Videogame perhaps. Somehow I don't think full fledged prequel.

OMG I LOVED this movie!!! So many great moments, and we got Mr. Rush back again

This one would have to be my favorite out of the 3 so far... and about the game, dear lord do I want to play it, but as of right now I don't have the spare cash laying around with which to buy a "next-gen" system and the game... but I could totally see them answering the Beckette/Jack connection in the game, or in a book, or... something *shrugs* The only thing that made me mad is that when I went to see it (8 o'clock showing very first day) our screen didn't start 'till about 8:45 and the screen cut out twice during the show

but that just gives me an excuse to go see it again

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I didn't think it was as good as the first two. There were moments I enjoyed, but to me, it just wasn't up to snuff.

That being said, one thing I did like was that the ending wasn't a typical Hollywood one. Sacrifices were made, and people didn't end up getting exactly what they wanted.

And just out of curosity, does anyone know the song that the little boy was singing in the beginning of the film?

The song was an original musical score for the movie, no historical basis for it. I believe Hans Zimmer made it, as he routinely sells peices of his soul to Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer to compose music for their shitty movies. It's like the unholy trinity of Hollywood.

On that note, here's my opinion of the movie. Just imagine that the ninja is actually me, because he sums up my feelings exactly.

well I had seen it before I heard about the bit at the end of the relentless credits.. (It IS a special effects movie, after all, and the credits go on for like 22 minutes!! LOL)

So today, I went to see Once.... and when it ended, I popped into the theater where pirates was JUST ending.. about 1/2 way through the credits.. so I stayed and watched the last scene..

might be a way to go for those who cannot sit through all those names....lol

BRANDONCOLLINS

I'm kind of on the fence about this movie. I really want to see it, but I don't want to go and waste my money if I'm going to hate it.

Everyone keeps raving about it, so that gives me some hope, but I can't find anyone who is like me--they just kind of like the Pirates movies, but aren't completely wildly in love with them, and don't hate their guts. I need someone in the middle.

The second one for me didn't do it. The first 30-45 minutes could have completely been cut from the movie and it would still have made sense, perhaps more so, and it would've been tons better because it wouldn't have been so long.

Critics complained that there were plot inconsistancies and the plot was difficult to follow in the 2nd one, but if you watch it twice or more, you can easily see that Jack is manipulating everyone and everything to get the Dead Mans Chest. It's not that difficult.

But, I've heard with this 3rd one, that the plot inconsistancies and plot holes are tripled and that it is very difficult to follow. Personally, I don't want to go to a movie and just see the special effects if I can't understand the story. I want to understand what's going on, because if I don't, I enjoy the movie significantly less. Basically I'm all about the writing. If the writing sucks, then the movie sucks, obviously. The second one was bearable once I stopped watching the beginning of it, and Johnny Depp really does carry these movies on his back effortlessly. If he weren't in them, I think they would completely bomb.

Also, my opinion? POTC 4 will be coming to a theater near you in 2008 or 2009.

Ok I'm going to chime in and I know I'm in the minority here so please don't anyone yell at me cause this is just my opinion.

I didn't like it. It was too long (I almost fell asleep), the plot was too confusing (I couldn't tell which side people were on) and I want my happy Hollywood ending.

That ending really upset me for some reason. Even now when I think about it, I get mad.

And now I will dare to say this; I liked the second one better than the third one. Yep I said it.

I hope I don't get shot after this.
