Don't have time for a full response now; I'll get to it a little later. For now, be assured that I'm not suggesting any "segregation" in the community. I'll explain what I really meant later.

And for cripes sake, will I ever escape the bad guy label?

This is false, just for the record.
(Well, there was the instance where someone got snippy because a 'D*C' thread got 'off topic' but that someone was not me, and I was quick to point out that it wasn't an exclusively D*C thread, because it wasn't.)

I never called you a bad guy, I said you were being sulky. Will you escape the 'sulky guy' label? Well, that's up to you

Oh, for fuck's sake....

You are perfectly capable of starting a new thread yourself. PhoenixRose, the lovely and inspiring visage that she is, is not the sole keeper and creator of picture threads.

And, also, for fuck's sake, D*C is nearly 8 fucking months away! Why in the fucking fuck (over-use just for fun) do you have to suggest planning ahead for a picture that may or may not be taken and posted?!?

Please, people, you're going to make my head explode.

Am too!

Nah, I was going to say that nothing was stopping anyone from doing a 'sulking because we couldn't be at D*C' picture thread, but I thought that would be mean

You know... if you said that the D*C pictures took up a lot of space, and the posters who weren't there could get lost in the shuffle, you might have an argument. If you said that I had ever at any point stated that the post-con picture threads were for con pics only, you might have an argument. You'd also be a liar, as I never said any such thing and in fact tried to encourage everyone to post because that's what these threads are about. I'm not a fan of segregation. For that precise reason, I don't see the benefit of segrating the picture threads according to who was at D*C and who was not. I would encourage anyone who went to any kind of convention to post pictures of it here to share with us and the whole community. I know it rarely works that way, but I would still encourage it.
Still, you might have an argument, and I might consider it, if you were being less sulky about not being able to be there and not willfully excluding yourself from any conversation about it or posting of pictures in the same thread. Because that, my friend, is not my problem. I love having you here, I love having everyone here, and I wouldn't exclude anyone on the basis of DragonCon, and you know that. If a made two threads for those who went and those who didn't, it would just be a means of separating the community, and I won't do that.

As an aside, before I get rolling, I have to say--I'm not sure exactly what I said that was "sulky" exactly, unless of course, it's considered sulky to suggest that the picture threads are anything other than perfection itself. I'm not casting aspersions and I'm not moaning about how terrible everything is. If I were, then I'd understand the "sulky" thing. I in fact did feel pretty left behind by the conversation last time around. I didn't say anything about it then, because I figured the D*C phase would work itself out and we'd all return to business as usual. What I did was to suggest a possible course of action. Is that not OK?

I think that somehow I have offended you personally. I have no idea how I did that, but I regret that I did, because that was obviously not my intent.

You seem to have taking me as suggesting that there be some sort of alternate pic-posting community for D*Cers, and one for non-attendees. Believe me, that is not at all what I was suggesting. I was suggesting something along the lines of a sub-picture thread (like "Browncoats--To Arms!" or "Show off your Pets" or "Browncoat Ink." Now all three of those are specialized threads revolving around some particular facet of Browncoat life (and, in particular, cam companion life). But surely no one thinks those segregated the community into ink-having and non-ink-having Browncoats. Rather, we simply participated if we had ink (or weapons or pets) and didn't if we didn't have such things. Because the conversation tends to get pretty specific in there, and if you can't talk the talk, well, there's not much for you.

Now, my experience from D*C '07 was that there was a good string there were the threads were pretty absorbed with D*C issues--may not have been noticeable to anyone who attended D*C, cause you'd all have been in on the discussions. But that was my impression. I do know that there are others who felt that way, though I'm not naming names, just in case they want to steer clear of the controversy. Suffice it to say that I wasn't the only person that had that impression.

Now, in saying that I experienced a period of feeling pretty significantly left out of conversations, I'm not trying cast any blame on anybody. I certainly understand why y'all would want to talk at great length about such an experience. I have no quarrel with that at all. My only point was to suggest that such conversations be had in a dedicated sub-picture thread (like the ones we've had before). I'm certainly not suggesting any "segregating" of the community.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Saying that the only reason you want separate threads for D*C is because otherwise you are left out is being sulky.
Insulted me? Yes, yes you did. I'm not sure if there's a point in trying to explain, again, that I actively encouraged everyone to post regardless of the time of year, but I did. Making out that I, as the main caretaker of the threads and the one who started the pic threads right after D*C, somehow left anyone out in the cold, is offensive to me.
Insisting that not only you but others were left out is doubly sulky and offensive, and forgive an old woman's memory, but I also think it's untrue.
Also, I don't know if you noticed, but those sub-picture threads? They ain't been doing anything lately. I got tired of messing with/fighting for smaller and sub picture threads that were for the most part ignored. People posted pets, weapons, sometimes hands and feet and sometimes even tattoos in the regular picture threads, regardless of having special threads for it. I tried, it was pointless, it took up a lot of my time, and I stopped trying. No one noticed or cared when they dropped out of sight. No one tried to bring them back. They're easy enough to get to. There's a link to the index in every single picture thread going back at least six months. But no one cares. So why should I?
Am I being unreasonable? Perhaps. Am I taking things personally? Yes. Should I? Well too bad, I can't change it. I pour my heart and soul into this community and these threads, I can't help but feel hurt when some efforts are ignored, or subsequently give them up as lost causes.
I have found there's little point in fighting for organization when nobody cares.
Really, there's no point in fighting for anything if no one else involved cares. It will just make you crazy.

I don't think that being cautiously ashamed, or selectively ashamed, or in any way ashamed of who I am is any way to live my life.

The current inspirational topic for the camcams is "Freedom". "Let Pictures Ring" is (I'm just guessing here PR, correct as necessary) taken from the phrase, "Let freedom ring."
Which may be an Americanism...

We have the Liberty Bell in Pilladelphia, Pennsylvania; the Freedom Bell in Charlotte, North Carolina; the Peace Bell (largest swinging bell in the world until recently) in Newport, Kentucky (though claimed as a Cincinnati, Ohio 'regional attraction'), and I imagine several other bells of significance scattered around the country.

Back in the day, bells were used to summon the militia (every male able to carry and/or load a rifle) to impress upon the British army the fact that we wanted to be free from their monarchy.

Sorry for the history lesson.

Never... NEVER appologise for a history lesson where I am concerned, Honey! I live on History like I live on air and coffee! (and cheese... and... oh you get the picture!)

I hadn't heard that one, and I suspect it is an Americanism... to my shame I know little about the Revolutionary war, much more about the War between the States of the late 19th Century... Now that you mention it 'let freedom ring' does ring a bell (pun intended ) from a scrapbooking page I saw in an American magazine once! I didn't know the bit about the bells being rung to summon the local militia though!

In Australia we didn't ever bother fighting off the British - we might just let them know we're going to be a republic one day... but we'll see if we care enough about that... Of course we never had the same issues you guys did... we just took on board the convicts and used them to build our nation.

HK... You are so sexy you make all other browncoats fade into the background... and since we know the browncoats are the sexiest fandom in the world, that's saying something!!

Seconded.

Also HK, I really like that pic of you in the goggles.

This is for MsB and HK and any others who may find it funny:

Perhaps one of the most interesting words in the English language today is the word fuck. Out of all the English words that begin with the letter "f", fuck is the only word that is referred to as the "f" word. It's the one magical word. Just by it's sound can describe pain, pleasure, hate, and love.
Fuck, as most words in the English language, is derived from German; the word "fleckin" which means to strike.
In English fuck falls into many grammatical categories:
As a transitive verb for instance
"John fucked Shirley."
As an intransitive verb
"Shirley fucks."
Its meaning's not always sexual
It can be used as an adjective as in
"John's doing all the fucking work."
As an adverb
"Shirley talks too fucking much."
As an adverb enhancing an adjective
"Shirley is fucking beautiful!"
As a noun
"I don't give a fuck!"
As a part of a word
"Absofuckinglutly!"
or
"Infuckincredible!"
And as almost every word in the sentence
"Fuck the fucking fuckers."
But you must realize that aren't too many words with the versatility of fuck. As in these examples describing situations such as
Fraud
"I got fucked at the used car lot."
Dismay
"Ah fuck it!"
Trouble
"I guess I'm really fucked now."
Aggression
"Don't fuck with me buddy"
Difficulty
"I don't understand this fucking question"
Inquiry
"Who the fuck was that?"
Disatisfaction
"I don't like what the fuck is going on here."
Incompetantce
"He's a fuck off"
Dismissal
"What don't you go outside and play hide-and-go-fuck-yourself?"
I'm sure you can think of many more examples. With all of these multipurpose applications, how can anyone be offended when you use the word?
We say use this unique, flexable word more often in your daily speech. It will identify the quality of your character immediately. Say it loudly and proudly:
FUCK YOU!

Not that I don't use the word a great deal my own self, but it's making the thread a lot less fun to partake of (esp. knowing that there are probably younger age groups and their conscientious parents reading it as well).

OK, it's getting on toward three-digit posts. For the next thread theme, might I toss 'crazy' out there? Like 'cute' and 'freedom', it's a continuous undertheme in Firefly.

HELL'S KITTEN

the bomb-bay is never empty,
i will never curb my vocabulary for the sake of the internet,
and i will not apologize for it.

conscientious parents shouldn't be too upset that we're just using the "F-word", when a certain someone could still be "accidentally" posting pictures of his penis in these threads.

posting more pictures may, however, help reduce all the talky talky.

All this bickering initially makes me wanna react like:

And then I realise that it's all just part of a shiny group's dynamic.

Shine on, ya crazy cam-companions.

Dude, jerking off on my mom is one thing. But banging your grandmother and her roommates? That's like... legendary.

Um wow (thought about dropping an F-Bomb here). I must have been AWOL that day. Glad for it too!

Dirty bastage! How do you "accidently" post a pic of that? Not to mention why would you even have a pic of that? Fuckwad!

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

'Crazy' sounds good to me. I can call it 'a few pictures short of a load'. I like these themes because they make it a little easier to name the threads. (And yes, let pictures ring came from let freedom ring )

I fuckin love you, Kitten.

Kel, for your reference, someone who shall remain nameless took a picture of himself in the mirror and posted it here, apparently unaware of what had snuck into the bottom of the frame (though I imagine he was fully aware of his lack of pants) It has been removed long since.
I'm sure everyone remembers the total disaster of a certain site full of cat pics being hacked and replaced with truly disgusting porn. No one here was to blame for it, but it happened nontheless.
So yeah.

Anyway, pictures!

My assignment for this week in photography is 'color'. Here's one of the pics I took for it:

I don't think that being cautiously ashamed, or selectively ashamed, or in any way ashamed of who I am is any way to live my life.

Hmm... very unaware of said incident.

As for the cat pics.... luckly I was one of the few to miss that horror when it happened and have not wished for any details either.

Very cool pic PR me I would have re-buffed the teach for assigning a pic of "color" in the winter and just taken a pic of snow and titled it "anti-color"
