I had no idea Alan was in this movie, and there he shows up, as Doc Potter!

Poor Alan. His characters are always doomed.

Rent "Death at a Funeral".

Sure, he gets outrageously high in that movie, but his part has a very happy ending. :)

Grrr. Argghh.

There's been a lot posted hereabouts , concerning that movie and Alan's role...

When I saw it in the theater , I had a virtually overwhelming compulsion to stand up and say ,

" Oh , look ! And there's something in a Jar ! "

As an homage to Wash , ya know ? The folk that've
seen the movie know what I'm talking about...

Big Browncoats shindig this weekend and we got a chance to watch both 3:10 to Yuma and Death at a Funeral back-to-back. It was a total AlanFest!
And the two movies couldn't possibly be more different. Intense, violent western and then low-brow foul-mouthed British comedy. And Alan was brilliant in both.

It's a shame -- Doc Potter only has one heroic moment in the whole movie. Kinda Wash-esque, dontcha think?

I would definitely recommend both.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I liked 3:10 to Yuma up until the last fifteen minutes, and then it was the most ridiculous crap imaginable.

Try the 1957 version of 3:10 - a much more plausible and satisfying conclusion. Not as much flash as the newer one, but a better movie all around, IMO.....

Yeah, I liked him a lot in 3:10 TO YUMA. That whole gang was an embarrassment of riches. Not only did you have Alan, you had Christian Bale, Russell Crowe (fightin' round the woild), Peter Fonda and the guy that played Sam Phillips to a T in WALK THE LINE. And the kid wasn't too bad as well.

I never really thought of Alan as a "FIREFLY actor". By that, I mean he been in so many other things and is such a chameleon that he's not tied down to one thing. To me, he was "an actor who was in FIREFLY".

I absolutely loved him in KNOCKED UP. Him and the "tighten" hand gesture did it for me. And in the deleted scenes, he and Kristen Wiig have another scene where Alan asks Kristen "Are we still pretending that we don't know she's pregnant?"

**************************************************
"And it starts with a sentence that might last a lifetime, or it all might just go down in flames. If I let you know me, then why would you want me? Each day I don't is a shame. Each day I don't is a great shame."

I concur. For all the hype I heard about this being the best western done in years, I then figured it was the ONLY western done in years.

Rent "Open Range" and "Missing".

Westerns are still very much alive at the movie theaters. These two are very recent and great films.

I also prefer the original "3:10 to Yuma" over this remake. A lot less flash and more drama. Some people don't like flash.

I watched the film with the misses the other week, she said the same thing, she also thinks that one of the characters acts just like Jayne...
