dead moose in a car pics

I had to post this from a Bigfoot board an acquaintance of mine frequents. The discussion was about "What would happen if a car hit a bigfoot at 60 MPH or so...

And these posts followed:

Quote:

When living in Alaska, my uncle tattooed these words into my brain:

"If you are about to hit a moose, duck and roll under the wheel!"

Get this... Since moose are so tall, they very easily end up inside of cars after they are hit. They will go right across the hood, through the windshield and into the front seat. A number of times they have decapitated the driver and/or passenger

and then this was posted ...
Quote:

South River Ontario moose: Sending you some pics of a moose that went through a car
this month near North Bay. The lucky woman driver ended up with a
broken wrist and needed a good bath.

OOG

Lived in Alaska 21 years, was lucky to never hit a moose, much less even see one on the road. By the side, but never in. I was raised in North Pole, lived in Fairbanks awhile and made frequent trips to Delta Junction (2hr drive) and occasional ones to Anchorage (8hr drive).

Even the babies are quite tall. You gotta be careful when you live in the middle of "no" and "where" and nature still has a foothold.

The only large animal I've come close to hitting to date is a moose. I was nearly finished my uni degree and travelling back to Edmonton on a small two-lane highway one afternoon, when a young moose came charging out of a farmyard along the farm's driveway.

First, I was astounded because I'd honestly never seen a moose running ... I thought they were fairly quiet creatures, as I've usually seen them loitering in sloughs munching on wetland grasses and such. But this one was running so fast that at first I'd taken it for a horse, except for its oddball gait.

Second, I was horrified to realise that at 100 kmh there was *no damn way* I could stop if it kept going, and we were likely to intersect perfectly. There was a train crossing just past this point, which meant that hitting the ditch wasn't an option, as I'd slam into the train berm like a concrete wall.

Third, I could actually see the whites of the eyes of the guy driving the freakin' huge semi tractor-trailer in the oncoming traffic lane. It looked like he had come to the same conclusions I had, and we were both basically waiting those last couple of moments for total carnage involving at least me, and possibly him.

At the very last possible second, the moose veered off and ran down the ditch. There aren't the words to describe the sense of relief!

Cheers,
Annik

Broken moose everywhere!

Oh, bugger! Now I have to wait for someone to wake up!

I think I'm a fairly average sized human being - a moose's head is bigger than my torso! The whole freaking torso! We did a "behind the scenes" tour at the MN Zoo (very cool, check it out if you can) last year, and got up close and personal with the mooses. I mean - nothing between us at all, just the door to the back pen open enough to let they're heads through! Very cool!! I prefer my wildlife alive, thankyouverymuch.

I know that moose can be very territorial, and you don't want to mess with them during rutting season.

Hell - anything that size, you don't want to mess with them, period.

The only moose my hubby and I saw when we were in Ontario was a stuffed one outside of a gas station/gift store. We saw a fox walking along side the road one night, though. And no road kill on any of the roads, surprisingly! (We had to drive the entire width of Ontario for his company, checking cell phone reception. Worse trip ever!)

Over the weekend, in Wawa, Ontario, a Greyhound-sized bus full of passengers hit a moose and rolled. The moose died, some passengers died, and several more were injured.

In the same region a day later a guy in a truck hit a moose but only the moose died.

Definitely not the sort of critters to mess with!

Wow. For once, I'm glad that about the biggest thing I have to worry about hitting here in Southern Iowa is a deer. Never thought I'd say that....

"How drunk was I last night?"
