I was looking at what's open now, and nothing really grabs my attention. Then I looked at what's coming out.... meh.

A couple of titles , here and there are somewhat interesting, but nothing l'm really looking forward to and counting down until its release.

IronMan2 was pretty good. Worth my time and $$, imo.

But to be honest, the last real cool flick where I was pleasantly surprised was last summer's MOON.

So far all I've seen is the "A-Team", it was so-so. I wanted to see "The Runaways", but it was in select theaters and none of the theaters around here were selected.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

The only one I can think of right now that I'm looking forward to is Inception, which opens July 16.

I'm trying to remember how many times I've been to the theater this year, but the only one I can recall is The Road, but that was at the discount theater and it's regular (and very short) run was late last year. I have watched quite a few things on DVD, mainly from Netflix, a mixture of old and new(ish).

The average for me is probably somewhere in the vicinity of 1% of all films made might be watchable.

Kickass was wildly entertaining. Can't wait for Robert Rodriguez's Machete in September. I'm sure the other six people who viewed Grindhouse in theaters will agree with me. I'll probably give Predators a whirl since he is also attached to that project, plus the cast is quite impressive. Above all others I really can't wait to see Tron 2.

I normally see 1-3 flicks per week. Looking forward to that Stallone/Schwartzenegger flick, looks like all-star casting.
Been out of it a bit, looked at the theater and am likely to see Airbender, Kinght and Day, Grown ups, Maybe New Moon. Not interested in Iron Man2 or Shrek.

There's not really that much catching my attention, too.

And often enough, it is a disappointment.

Or let's say, it doesn't lives up to the expectations.

The last film I enjoyed was How to train your Dragon.
I liked the twists, it wasn't your standard animation film.

None.

I don't have time to go sit in a theatre and do nothing.

That and Kick Ass are about the only ones I'd consider paying movie tic prices to see.

LWAVES

Hard to say but as a rough guess for cinema viewing:

15-20 probably interest me when I first hear about them.
That goes down to about 10 by the time I've seen a trailer and know more about the films.
This will go to about 5 or 6 after it's release and reviews are in.
And I'll probably end up seeing 3 or 4 at the cinema.

Take this year, for example, and this is based on first viewings. Some of these will be bought on disc if I ilke the movie enough:

From the start of the year I was interested in Toy Story 3, The Losers, Inception, Harry Potter, Iron Man 2, Remember Me, Robin Hood, Kick Ass, Tron Legacy, The Runaways, Alice In Wonderland, Book Of Eli, The Lovely Bones and Shutter Island

Iron Man 2 and Kick Ass are my only cinema viewings so far but I will see Toy Story 3 and Harry Potter on the big screen as well once they are out.
Alice In Wonderland, Remember Me and Shutter Island I waited for retail release before watching.
Book Of Eli and Lovely Bones were rentals. The Runaways will probably be a rental.
Robin Hood and The Losers lost me by the time I'd seen a trailer although I'll probably catch them once they're on Sky or something.
Inception will probably be a straight buy but it depends on what I hear about it after it's release.
Tron Legacy is too early to say, could go any way with this one.

IMO cinema is just too expensive to risk watching a lot of films on the big screen (as much as I'd like to). That and the fact that I've been disappointed with some cinema films in recent years that it has put me off going.

KWICKO

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

I'm trying to remember, but I don't think I've been in a movie theater since September of Ought-Five, when I hit a certain movie twice on opening day...

I do tend to rent quite a few movies, though. The problem with this summer, as I see it, is... it's summer. Very big time for sequels and movies with lots of shit gittin' blowed up. Neither of those automatically make for a good movie, in my book.

Just watched Book of Eli over the long weekend, and it was okay. So-so, anyway. A bit cookie-cutter, and the "twist" is one of those where you go, "Oh. Yeah, that makes sense."

Green Zone was good; I liked it. Had much the feel of the "Bourne" movies, for obvious reasons.

Youth in Revolt was cute and silly. Michael Cera can still pull off that geeky kid act, but it's getting long in the tooth.

Most movies today are computer-predicted successes that FAIL.
"Moon" was a quirk that slipped under the radar, hence its greatness.
Iron Man 1 & 2 have a brilliant director behind them.
Most else is committee approved garbage, I'm afraid.

Non-Holier-than-thou-types like me prolly found it just okay, but it could have been so much more without the "Whoah, GOD" thing.
Just sayin'.

I usually see maybe one good movie a year. The rest are either uninteresting, generic, or only okay. Too many movies nowadays are excessively fanservicey, and it seems like they don't even put effort into the plots.

I did really love Toy Story 3 , but I also think that people in my age group (ie. people who were kids when the first two came out) enjoyed it more than others.

Sherlock Holmes was great too, especially since it was somewhat more true to the books than other Holmes movies.

I've been having a good year at the movies.

Date Night was perfectly pleasant--a good use of Tina Fey's and Steve Carrel's time.

Ghost Writer--a perfectly miserable film about how bad it's gotten, well played by all.

Sherlock Holmes--as previously stated.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo--enjoyed the book more, but that's 'cause it's an amazing book. But the movie's really good anyway.

Knight & Day--it was nice to like a Tom Cruise movie again--best since Minority Report.

Toy Story 3--c'mon, it's freakin' Pixar! And it's Toy Story!

The A-Team--my personal favorite movie of the Summer thus far (totally did not expect that)! Everything a person with even a mild affection for the old tv show could want.

Prince of Persia--okay, I didn't really need to see it, but hey, it was better than Clash of the Titans! (Did anyone see Clash of the Titans? Oh my gawd, that was a bad, bad movie--like watching Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes doing an elementary school Xmas pageant on a budget of a gazillion dollars--quite funny, actually.)

And why isn't Inception nullifying your need for this thread?

HKCavalier

Hey, hey, hey, don't be mean. We don't have to be mean, because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

Well, a big issue with it, besides the application of Sturgeons Law, is that most of the movies I WOULD watch receive little or no promotion, as that is reserved for whatever recycled tripe-trash their shovelling, and folks miss out on a lot of good stuff that way, yanno, like Serenity.

IF you can find a theatre carrying it, you could take a shot at Winters Bone although it's a hard story about some hard people, and not to everyones taste.

Very, very wrong. I'm so tired of the promotion of that movie intruding on everything in the world. Hopefully now that it's come out I can have my life back, free of chittering yellow blobby things with goggles.

That does look interesting. I am a Joseph Gordon-Levitt fan, I hope his part is decently prominent.
