My parents, in their 70's are both hilarious and annoying. At the moment they are killing me. there's alot of noise going on because the cat has hidden himself somewhere in the house. they are banging things about and shouting for him to show himself...this is annoying as he thinks it's funny and it alerts them to how close he is. He's actually hiding in my room (if you could call partial concealment under a bed with his tail sticking out hiding) which is funny as he knows they won't come in her for fear of my reaction...I'dbetter take him out before all hell breaks loose.

Same here. Kitties think they're hiding but there's always the odd bit of tail or an ear sticking out. The difference is we don't go crashing around "trying to find them." We sneak around and they get curious, then we pounce!

ours generally loves the play value of hiding and being found and all the drama that ensues. but if he's in my room it indicates he wants some peace. My parents are Sicilian a very noisy shouty bunch of people and they are both hearing impaired. my dad has a hearing aids and mum refuses to admit she needs them. plus she's one of those people that bangs things about to get attention. I've been back living with em for 4 years while I've been studying to be a Speech Pathologist. They're good people just really loud...all...the...time. I fear for the cat when I leave. he'll have no where to retreat to.

"Tail" was one of the English words my cat learned.

He'd "hide" with his tail sticking out, and I'd have to remind him. The tail would immediately be pulled out of sight.

Do they still shout about in Sicillian? I really can't imagine what kinda inflection they'd have... Sicillian inflected aussie english with hearing problems???? Wouldn't it be easier to just use sign language

Don't think these cats have learned "tail" yet, but they are quite familiar with various forms of death threat.
Last night a disturbance in the force there was - - chairs were heard, and a human oath or twenty. Lights went on. I stayed in bed. Clearly this was not a home invasion (the presence of our five and the schedule of their arrival rather suggests an infiltration, and their daily behavior must truly be that of "sleepers"), so as long as I didn't open my door I was in little danger of being included in the festivities.
An after-action report I was given this morning places blame squarely at the neat brown feet of the sole Siamese, a notorious instigator. I'll be billing him for sleeping pills.

Our cat Faran seems to have picked up the trick of hiding. When we visit my mums house she spends most of her time in my mums wardrobe sleeping on a pile of jumpers. Theres no way to see her cause she climbs in in such a way that the hanging clothes cover her, and tail gets tucked in too. It was only cause she growled once (yeah, she's got a louder growl than my mums mastiff) at my sister trying to take out one of the jumpers that we know where she is.

But she knows that we know she's in there, so this time when it came to put her in her box (which she still doesn't like despite practice) to take her home she planned ahead, found a new spot and tried to run for it when she thought we weren't looking. It was only cause Stu saw her blurr past that we knew she'd gone into another room or we would have taken my mums room apart looking for her.

The new spot was under a double bed. That was fun trying to get her out of there.

Faran sounds like a kitty klassic. I trust no animals were harmed in the course of the underbed extraction.

Closets are a cat's natural habitat, I believe. Knowing this, and detesting cat hair on his clothing, my hub nevertheless couldn't close a closet door to save his soul.
Lotus (yes, named for the car) established a hairy nest in the top of a bedroom-closet yarn-box and spent many a happy hour there, observing but undetected. His only real fear was that of being closed in. I took to leaving the door open if the bedtime cat-check was positive. We would turn off our lights and snuggle in; within a minute or two there would be loud feline pronouncements in very best Siamese. Together, we would say, "Yes, Lotus. Good night, Lotus." Peace and quiet ensued, not always as lengthy as we'd have liked, but enough to get in some sleep. If we didn't acknowledge him, he'd just keep it up. Owww.

My kitty does not hide from me. If she's not in sight somewhere I begin to freak out. Usually only to finally notice her sitting right nearby but somewhere unusual.

Though it was beneficial the one time she snuck outside and I tore the place apart thinking she must have gotten trapped somewhere. Took me probably a good 15 - 30 minutes before I realized I should check outside and she bolted in the second I got the door open. Ah cats.

Oh yeah old people. Uh...what's up with them?

Oh, that so cute, that sounds very cosy too. I imagine Faran would be a furry ball of spitting fury if we closed her in a cupboard. She got stuck in the loft once and the noises she made were unreal. (Got up the ladder, couldn't get down it)

She tends to choose our bed time as play time, and will spend 20 minutes chasing a ribbon or a sting or her tail or throwing toys down the stairs before she clams down, chooses which hip (mine or his) she'd like to sleep on and settles down.
If we're visiting often she'll do the same but go and find natives to sleep on, which confuses my brother no end cause she wont go near him when he's awake. Blessedly though she'll sleep as long as you want to sleep, unless she needs to clean, then you wake up in what feels like an earthquake, with the bed shaking and all the wierd noises.

My cousins all speak spanish catalan and english, and thats confusing enough when they're talking at normal volume - Boris I feel for ya!
