My Mother is an uberpossessed insanely unbalanced twisted banshee spawned from the darkest murkiest depths of hell !!!!!!.... She really is unbearably insane and getting worse now that I have finnished studying and have to spend more hours dealing with her lunatic rantings. I need to get a fulltime job and move far far away. Eventually take a leaf out of my brother's book and move to the other side of the planet to get away from her when I can Afford it. Don't know what I was thinking moving back in even if it did mean I could go back to full time study. she's so mental at the moment it's alternatively making me laugh and hurting my head. Like today she conveniently forgot that I told her twice I was hanging out with a particular friend and then blasted me when I got home saying I'd never told her my plans and that she doesn't approve of the friendship coz he's a....MAN...who has a girlfriend and therefore has me around as a "commodity" whatever the hell that means in her screwed up mishmash of a mind...I'm 41 for chrissakes!!!!! And half my friends are males!!!! AAAGHHHHHHH!!!!!

I just needed to express all that somewhere where It wouldn't come back to bite me in the Ass.

In other words, any offspring's natural reaction to exposure to their parents after puberty, exacerbated by period of exposure.

When parricide starts becoming an attractive option, that's just nature's way of telling you it's time to find your own territory.

Good luck in your migration.

I don't know about that. My mom has rarely gotten on my nerves, and never to this extent. I also live at home for the benefit of full-time study, and it's mostly fine. Not getting along with parents does seem to be the main reason people move away from home, though.

What reason had proved best ceased to look absurd to the eye, which shows how idle it is to think anything ridiculous except what is wrong.

I first left home when I was 18 to get away from my mother and whozit she IS insane and I'm not the only one who thinks so. I moved back when I was 36. I thought it would be okay as i had matured and our relationship was stable...ish. Now she's at me all the time about everything. She has alienated most of her friends. My brother wants to come visit from the UK but doesent want to stay here because of her outbursts and the effect they have on his wife and daughter and is terrified of her reaction when he tells her. she says very bizzarre and unnerving things infront of people and has become less guarded or aware of who she's saying things to we are used to her rantings but they still affect us. I've had her remaining friends call me and ask if they can help or how my dad and I are doing. I've tried to get her to seek care but she is in denial. I am going to leave soon but I worry about my poor father who will then be dealing with her on his own. At least with me here he gets some relief.

With normal people, I would say be directand go to a relaxed public setting, thank her for what she has done for you so that you can study, but be firm about boundaries and ask he to please stop certain behaviors that are pushing you over the edge, but I say that with the firm knowledge If I were honest and direct with my own mother she would just clain "victim status" and turn it into a "you never do THIS, you never do THAT" weepy catfight...

I say...redouble your efforts to leave...as sooon as possible...IT'S THE ONLY WAY! That... and a short push offa long cliff

ah Wishy...you know that of which i am experiencing. She can't be reasoned with as she's completely manic and in one of her "I'm psychic and know that everyone is out to get us" cycles. I have started packing and downsizing subtly and have applied for work far far away. If only I could take the old man with me.

Buy a tent and move out to the back yard. Or a camping trailer.

Or smoke a lot of dope.

Or slip St Johns Wort in her dinner. Or ludes.

Or start wearing a gun.

I recommend a minimum safe distance of 200 miles. Too far to just pop in because you were in the neighborhood. Close enough for holiday visits. Plus, if a visit is turning to shit you can always play the "Oh, we've got a long drive ahead of us" card and bail early.

Maybe if you & your Dad could call the police & have her taken to a hospital where she could get some meds to calm her... sounds like something controllable if you can just get her some chemical assistance.

I totally feel for you, Boris. My own stepmom is sort of a cross between Mary Tyler Moore's character in Ordinary People and Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
She's a big fan of the movie Gaslight, and she's always tried to mess with my sanity in the same way: i.e. giving me conflicting orders and punishing me for doing things "wrong", trying to rewrite history by destroying evidence.
For example, she destroyed a bunch of my father's artwork after he died, then tried to convince me he never made them. Stuff like that.

I've never been able to catch her at it, though. She's really slick that way.

Hi Rose, that sounds really frustrating. I agree that maybe its time you find another place to live so that you have some space and distance from her, she sounds very difficult to live with. As for your dad I'm sorry that he has to handle her in her current state, she sounds exasperating to say the least.

It sounds like she has some mental health challenges/differences/she's totally out of control. I don't know about the rules where you live but here where I am one can't force someone to get help unless they are a danger to self or others (sometimes people can exaggerate though if necessary.) I think though that finding another place to live is a first rate idea. Do you have any friends who could be housemates with you, like you guys could live in a house together?

Could your dad go to a caregiver's support group? Best wishes and I hope you can find somewhere else to live soon and give yourself some space. take care and best wishes.
