This thread is devoted to the adventures of Special Branch, the spin-off story to Sereni-Tree.

Here you will find the guide to the characters, their description and history (as well as who would ideally play them on the screen)

I'll try to post details on the ships, as well as important events in the story's history

This is a work in progress, so at first the guide will not be as detailed, but I hope to slowly add to it to make it more comprehensive

NEEDY

List of Characters:

Special Branch/The Resistance:

Capt. Seth Franklin AKA ‘Safe’: Former Alliance soldier. Special OPS. Before the war was a Police Captain. No family. Was married, but had a messy divorce mostly caused by his being recruited for the war. She didn't agree with the Alliance Ideals, he was career soldier. Towards the end of the war, was court marshalled for killing a superior officer. Spent time as security, PI, and bounty hunter. Strong sense of loyalty and duty, but has no qualms about killing the bad guys. Had seen too much and may be get weary of it all. Athletic build, in his early 40's.

Flechette DeBeaucamp: Tough, no nonsense. Cajun ancestry. Uses a restaurant as her cover. Became part of the underground because her sister was used as an experiment, similar to River’s, only it left her sister as nothing more than a drooling husk when the Blue Sun Corp. discarded her.

Versa Lettrice: Classic bookworm, librarian type. Photographic memory. Loves digging into Alliance records and papers, breaking codes and finding the hidden stuff. Code breaker for the underground. Versa isn't really a fighter. Not that she won't or doesn't know how. It's just that she’d prefer not to. When she does fight, it shocks people. She'll just shrug it off and say she saw it in a book once.

Amy Lisse: Bubbly and a bit shy. Loves clothes. Ended up working for the underground just because she befriended Flechette and Versa.

Jack Castor AKA CastIron Jack: Soldier in the war. Served in Safe's hand picked squad. Goofy, loyal and resourceful. Seasoned soldier.

Scorpion Regent (aka SR): A really gruff war-torn space pirate. He has the ability to travel through time though it's not an ability he likes to use due to its unpredictable nature. He is wholeheartedly in love with Seryn but has taken a leave of absence in the recent chaos on board the ship(s). He is currently fighting a different war in another time, at the battle of Stalingrad.

The Being – An ethereal being that began to appear to Needy after his “death.” Taking on the form of Needy’s old friend “Serenity” in appearance, The Being sole purpose seems to be to guide the former companion in his destiny to save humanity.

Seryn Antares: “…a fighter pilot and general handywoman. Watch out for her rabbits…”.

Wisp: An “Ex military brat” that learned to fend for himself on the streets. Since his time as a teenager he’s got into scrapes as well as provided expertise to shady characters (being the electronics wizard that he is) but now he seems to have put that behind him in favour of thrilling heroics. Well, until an encounter with an old flame didn’t end so well.

Vixen Goddard: A dangerous ex-con who briefly shared a romance with Wisp, until her nasty habit of murdering people drove him away. Needless to say, their recent reunion on Boros wasn’t exactly pretty.

Needy: Former companion who is haunted by an unearthly being that only he can see. Disguised as Serenity – an old friend – he is told that he must embrace his destiny if he is to save the verse. Cue mental instability.

Soul: Captain of the ship, Soul has recently been separated (due to a certain Giant Space Hiccup) from his fiance, the mother-to-be Serenity. He might not mind, he’s got a lot in his past that needs dealing with.

Passengers:
Kyra McTaggert: News reporter with a history with Needy. Determined to make amends for the past, she is currently doing whatever she can to find the missing companion who, she believes, was kidnapped by strangers from another world.

Milton Reeve: Was a protégé of Needy at the companion house until Alliance officers arrested him, charging him with being a traitor.

Sykes:

Ghost: Shy six-year old girl, practically raised (and protected) by her older brother, Truth. She’s four years younger than her sister Shadow.

Shadow: Ten-year old runaway. She is a bit of a tomboy, and as a result gets mistaken for a boy a lot – not that she seems to mind much.

Truth: 15 year old boy. Looks after his younger sisters, protecting them from the world (including their adoptive parents)

Spider:

Liam: Captain of The Dwarf
Ciaran: Wife of Liam, captain of The Dwarf, but she is not what she seems...
Colm: Crewmember of The Dwarf
Maxine:Pilot of The Dwarf
Julie: Crewmember of The Dwarf
Linda: Crewmember of The Dwarf

Outsiders:

Clayton Payne: Clayton's father was shunned from society due to his obsession with the paranormal, now it seems his only son is going down the same path. Having worked at Boros Band with Kyra McTaggert for a few years, he has actively sought out cases that defied modern science's explanation. Mocked by his peers, he is nevertheless an excellent reporter. Close friend to Kyra and associate to Robert Wu, he was also recently drafted by The Resistance movement known as Special Branch. He is currently working with Robert on uncovering the mystery of what has happened to Needy. So far he has discovered he was responsible for the deaths of several Crimson Guard officers through supernatural means and that a case involving a young woman, which resembled Needy's story in many ways, didn't end well. Deep down, he fears the former companion may be a danger not only to Kyra, but everyone else too. He has agreed to meet the mysterious bounty hunter Kurren, in the hopes of gathering more information on both Needy himself and what the bounty hunter wants with him.

Kurren: A no-nonsense Bounty Hunter of African/Chinese descent. He was trained by his father and works with a variety of weapons, but fights best up-close-and-personal, with daggers, knives and the like. His skills with other long range weaponry aren't the most accurate, but they do the trick. Currently he seems interested in the crew of the Epsilon and Needy in particular. He has arranged a meeting with the reporter Clayton Payne, in the hopes that he might gather more intel on his intended target.

Janus: Alliance officer

Phelps: Alliance officer

Bear: - The pilot of Safe's ship The Dagger. He's a big monstrous fellow you'd be a fool to mess with.

Grunt: Crewmember of Safe's ship The Dagger. He is an electronics and long range weapons specialist

Jennings: Co-pilot of Safe's ship "The Dagger". He doesn't like to be bossed about much but he's good with his hands - both with fixing things and as a street fighter. Current whereabouts: Unknown

Elise Dyan: Beautiful yet tough Elise has quite a few skills, and uses them to fill quite a few roles on the ship – cook, medic, gunman (or would that be gunwoman?). It’s possible she’s also had an intimate relationship with “Spooky” Tark. Current whereabouts: Unknown

Ellington "Spooky" Tark: Captain Soul’s right hand man is the intimidating sort of fellow: Tall, silent and deadly. Certainly not the sort of man you’d want to be on the wrong side of. Current whereabouts: Unknown

(Head of) Succatash: Pilot of Destiny’s Shadow. What his story is and why he now exists solely as a head in a jar is unknown… but he does make some small conversation and the odd quip, and that’s all that matters. Right? Current whereabouts: Unknown

Togan Hamrick: Engineer of Destiny’s Shadow and yet, despite what you would think is a grubby job, somehow he always manages to stay clean… which is probably for the best considering he’s an obsessive “neat freak”. Current whereabouts: Unknown

Citizen: Business man, and possibly weapons dealer, not much of a pilot, but that might be because of his weakness for alcohol – can’t exactly have a pilot DUI now can we? Current whereabouts: Unknown

Carl Perry: Editor of News Paper/Station Boros Band. Boss of Clayton Payne and Kyra McTaggert, and looked up to as a father figure by the latter. He is a hard man at times when he needs to get the job done, but for the most part he is considered to be a genuinely kind and level-headed guy. Currently on Boros, working hard presumably.

Rosie Walker: One of seven plant people, specially grown during a drunken stupor by Wisp. Being a newly formed sentient being, she at times struggles to understand humans. She has recently evolved so that she now resembles a human. (She still fails to understand them however). Current whereabouts: Unknown

Robert Wu: A former police officer and negotiator, who has ties to The Resistance. He has been sought out by The Alliance and various other organisations due to his remarkable skills - the ability to influence his thoughts on others, but only once has he taken them up on the offer (in order to gather more infomation on Needy, who was at one point in captivity). He is an informant of Clayton Payne and is one of the only people to witness (and survive) the full scale of Needy's powers. Currently on Boros.

Serenity - Soul's fiance, and old acquantance of Needy's. A gutsy warrior woman, skilled with the use of Katanas. Oh, and she has blue-white angelic wings. Currently residing on Sereni-Tree

Currently simlar to the old list, I'm working on a more detailed profile of each character. Some of the profiles need major updating, and some characters have the most basic descriptions. I'll try and get them all done in time, but it will be a huge help if you submit your own, with as much of a backstory as you want to give - the important thing at the minute is a basic description of who the character is. Ideally, I'd like each character to have a description like that of Safe or Clayton

Also, considering all the characters that have appeared in these threads, I've probably missed some out. Do let me know if that's the case

While at the AYMA William was noticed to have an exceptional Mental proccesing capacity. Without his knowledge he was used in Project:EINSTEIN which effectivley boosted his IQ to around 200+. Unfortunately It was decided that due to his undisciplined attitude he was unfit for stage 2. Instead He was placed in a situation for him to escape so EINSTEIN could be studided in a free environment. This was known as Project:FreeBird.

FreeBird was A top level parlimentary undertaking.

After initiation William quickly shed his real name in favour of his callsign WISP. Recon showed he lived on the streets for a period of 3 months after initiation moving steadily away from The Academy Eventually reaching Shinon. Wisp engaged in several menial jobs such as cleaning, and cooking to support himself. He began stealing Parts from a technology Wholesale and creating Devices which he sold on the black market. He became a self taught expert In High Tech Crime.

After 14 months on Shinon he suddenly disappeared without trace. He was eventually located on Highgate in The employ of a Powerfull Crime lord named Vankeetsen. The 6 months he worked under Vankeetsen, Cortex crime increased by 23.7%.

Wisp however did not work by choice, he had been kidnapped on Shinon. To escape Wisp allerted the authorities of the crime ring and escaped during an alliance assault.

He was next seen on Osiris with another cadet from AYMA named Vixen Goddard. The two engaged in a spree of crimes before Wisp dissapeared again.

He reappeared on Garrison joing a crew of a vessel named the Serenitree. Reports of his activities on the vessel were difficult to track due to its mobile nature.

He was located in a Hospital On Boros after suffering sever injuries from an unknown cause. Agents were sent in to recall Project:FreeBird as it was become harder to contain and track. However during Interrogation by local opperatives while Specialists were being sent in Wisp escaped and has not been seen from since.

Project: FreeBird has been Scuttled and Project:Caged Sparrow has been launched to find and bring In Wisp.

Notes
Project:EINSTEIN- was a chemical compound combined with low does radiation that caused adult stem cells to specialise into Neural pathways resulting in Increased IQ and Mental Processing.

Ariel Youth Military Academy- Young teenagers mainly from privilaged families were trained as officers with an intense training program. The curriculum includes Hand to hand combat, Small, Medium, And Heavy arms training, Flight school, Strategy, And Computer technologies.

Vankeetsen- Powerful Crime lord controlling many illegal smuggling rings along with countless drug and fraud offenses.

Milton Reeve:

Age: 19
Occupation: Male Companion
Character: Part idealist, part dreamer. Young and inexperienced with many things in life, but will rise to the challenge when it comes to doing "the right thing". Incredibly loyal, especially to Needy.

History: Milton Reeve began his training at the Boros companion house over a year ago, under the guidance of Bernard "Needy" Needham.
Milton quickly developed a fondness for Needy, looking up to him not only for guidance in his line of work, but in every other area of life too.
At the time of their first meeting, Needy had been the subject of a major inquiry by his peers, and was fairly reserved. During this period, Milton felt very protective over him, despite his feeling that it should have been the other way around.

After Needy disappeared under mysterious circumstances, Milton was one of the few who was not only interrogated, but actually imprisoned by the Alliance under the false charge of "Accessory to Treason"
Despite their attempts to gauge as much incriminating information as they could about "Needy" from his colleague, their efforts bore no fruit.
After being paid a visit by Needy's former lover, Kyra (a woman he despised for what she put his friend through), he was later freed by members of the Resistance movement posing as Alliance officers.

Believing it was this same group of freedom fighters that were responsible for the kidnapping and death of Needy however, Milton sought to bring down them and their organisation.
After being brought into their base of operations, he contacted the Alliance, hoping that the two enemies would wipe each other out, allowing him to slip out.
It was only after he realised the truth - that Needy was still alive, and that The Resistance (or Special Branch as they were known) were in fact "the good guys" - did he realise his mistake.
But it seemed to be too late, as many within the organisation were captured and presumably imprisoned by a crack team of Alliance oficers.

Milton was soon re-united with Needy and, despite his major error in judgment, was invited, along with his old "friend" Kyra, to join the crew of rebels on their ship.

Whilst trying to fit it with the crew, he befriended one of the rebels that had help break him out - the attractive and bubbly Amy Lisse.
He has since made peace with Kyra, as well as having been granted forgiveness by Needy for his actions.

Now he is doing all he can to make up for his past actions which, mistake or not, has cost the freedom of numerous members of The Resistance.

After helping to defeat the duplicitous "Ciaran" who had stolen the crew's ship, Milton found doing the right thing had consequences. During a confrontation with Needy, he was brutally murdered by his "friend".

His murder has been pinned on the treacherous Ciaran, who has also apparently died from her injuries.

Currently: DECEASED

File- Vixen Goddard

Age:21

Bio: Vixen was Born into the Wealthy Goddard family on Osiris. Her father was a member of Parliament and her mother a leading socialite. She has 2 brothers one Older, one younger. At a young age Vixen suffered from a mild hormonal imbalance leading to a more aggressive personality. She was unhappy and depressed throughout most of her young life. She fell in with crime rings and rebelious groups and was arrested several times. This culminated at the age of 15 when she killed both of her parents in a staged break in. Unfortunately her guilt was discovered but due to her age and back ground she was sent to The Ariel Youth Military Academy rather than prison in an attempt to root out her violent nature through discipline.

Unfortunately all that occured was she was trained further in the use of fire arms. At the age of 18 she was discharged from the academy but deffered her place in officer core for a year of travelling. After leaving the academy she began a violent crime spree across the outer core.

She is currently 78th on the 100 most wanted list but her location is unknown.

Bernard "Needy" Needham:

(Marc Blucas)

Age: Mid-Twenties
Occupation: Male Companion / Member of Resistance
Character: Originally selfless and idealistic, he has since become unstable and governed by an invisible Being, leading him to commit unspeakable acts in the name of Destiny.

History: Hailing from Londinium before taking to the stars, Needy eventually settled on Boros, working as a Male Companion.
A warm, considerate person with a strong sense of justice, he often got involved in situations that didn't concern him, helping friends in need and standing up against immoral "businessmen." It was during an incident with notorious criminal "Heinz" that led him to meeting Serenity, and in turn the rest of the Resistance movement, of whom he would soon ally himself.

He had only been in love once before, but soon he met and fell for one of his clients, a woman named "Grace". Only he later discovered that he had been deceived and "Grace" was actually a reporter named Kyra, who had used him to gather intel.
After the expose, Needy didn't pop up on the radar much until his help was required by old friends of the resistance.

During a firefight between The Alliance and Resistance, Needy found himself mortally wounded. After being brought back from the brink of death, he began to experience visions of a supernal being.
He soon discovers his body has not only been altered since his "resurrection", with remarkable healing abilites that rendered him practically invulnerable, but also that he may have been brought back for a reason.
The ethereal Being - a shapeshifting entity that chose to appear to him in the form of his friend Serenity - tells him that he has a destiny, and that is to ultimately prevent a major catastrophe.

Mystery seems to surround Needy's life from then on.
Upon becoming a passenger of the large spacevessel "The Sereni-Tree", he learns (and sees evidence) that "he" had already journeyed with them months previously, though he knows this couldn't be true.
Months later, whilst an annual contest was being hosted, Needy disappears before re-appearing with fellow crewmembers at the other end of the verse on The Epsilon. The true explanation for these events have not yet been unveiled, though the answers lie deep within Needy's own subconscious.
The crew become involved in various dangerous escapades whilst The Being starts to influence Needy more directly.
His memories of certain events become clouded, such as the details of how he escaped his imprisonment by the Crimson Guard, but he consoles himself in the knowledge that The Being was protecting him

Immediately after his escape, he is reunited with both Milton Reeve, his former protege; and Kyra, the woman that betrayed him.
Despite their past history, Needy forgives her for her actions and the two start to move on with their lives.

Recently, overcome with the need to find answers to the mysteries that plague him, Needy gives himself over to The Being.
From then on, he's not the same - manifesting even more strange abilities and even ruthlessly murdering his friend Milton - all in order that he might fulfil his destiny.

The Weapon aka Fifteen aka Blackout

Age: Twenty six
Occupation: Former Spy/Assassin
Character: Patriotic and driven, The Weapon will fight for what he believes in, even if it means self-sacrifice.

History: Growing up, "Fifteen" was a boy of morals and ideals, although he may not have been strong enough to stand up for them. When he turned 18 however, he was recruited by The Expendables for a special training program. Truly believing in their vision for a better future, "Fifteen" made significant progress in training, being the first to complete the seven trials, seventeen hours ahead of the other members of his group.

Soon his superior, Colonel Styx enlisted him for special missions within the organisation, infiltrating and gathering intel from The Alliance and several of is secret splinter groups, before being sent deep undercover for Operation Blackout.
Whilst attempting to recover intel of the experiments Blue Sun Corporation were conducting on innocent civilians, the young operative was captured, and subjected to the same experiments.

After a year of detainment and experimentation, followed by further months of reprogramming, Fifteen was finally allowed to return home. His loyalties now though were not they were, a fact made abundantly clear when he completed his newly assigned mission by assassinating six of his fellow officers, including Colonel Styx.

Now a wanted enemy of The Expendables, "Fifteen" carried out further missions for Blue Sun as well as its subsidary organisations before he was captured and detained, charged with the attempted murder of the President of the Colonies.

Spared execution due to his inside knowledge of two of the most dangerous groups in recent history, "Fifteen" was deprogrammed and kept safe from those that might try and suppress the information he holds.

Now, his presence is requested from the President's office itself. Finally the secrets he's been forced to conceal for years will be unveiled, and those that have maintained their influence over the verse for years will be exposed.

Problem is, the ship intented to deliver him to his destination contained a spy, a woman named Ciaran, whose allegiance was to the Expendables. Although Ciaran is now gone, the crew that they have now alligned themselves with are fugitives - members of the Resistance. And one of whom also used to be a member of The Expendables, a man named Soul - the very same man that sent him on Operation Blackout in the first place.

Can Soul really be trusted?

NEEDY

The road to Hel is paved with good intentions

The Carson Children

Adopted and raised by Mr and Mrs Carson, Truth soon learnt that being taken in by a family wasn't all it was cracked up to be.
Mistreated and uncared for, living in a dark and dank basement, he realised that the sole purpose he was there was not out of love, but for the monthly cheque the government paid his "parents"
When the couple decided to take in two more youngsters, sisters, the twelve year old boy knew it would be up to him to make sure they were cared for.
The three of them lived an unhappy childhood it was true, but Truth made sure that at the very least they would have each other.
He gave the sisters names other than the deorgatory titles their "parents" bestowed upon them. The oldest of the two, whose boyish looks was often the cause of much jeering, he named Shadow. Whilst the shy but pretty six year old, he named Ghost.

They embraced the time they could share together, away from the restrictive and harsh rule of their parents. Often Truth would take them places that were "safe", places where they could be themselves and perhaps even have fun, swimming or fishing. It was these moments they cherished.

After finding a man washed up on the river, Truth made sure he was taken to hospital. But the young children soon found themselves mixed up in dangerous business. When an injured Ghost hid in one of the Crew's vehicles, she was discovered and looked after by the crew.
Soon all three children find themselves free of their abusive parents, and finding safety with their new family - the crew of the Epsilon.

Currently:
Truth, Shadow and Ghost are currently with their friend Spider on board The Epsilon, being watched over by Mr Sykes, whilst the remainder of the crew deal with the aftermath of Ciaran's betrayal.
