Trump is a psychopath...........ah, that felt good to get off my chest.

Still though, on your recommendation, I'm voting Trump all the way. Especially now
that he has chosen the homo-phobic Pence (forgive me, Pussy Pence). Yeah, that's right, the inner circle of the Republican Party have given him the nickname because
the stupid fat phuck backed down regarding the Ban on Gays in Indiana (Putz).

But, he's with Him.........so I forgive him (the putz).

The smart money's on Trump/Pence.............place your bets!

Well, thank you for your always-enlightening posts, SGG. [/snark]

I suppose that the Republican platform comes out of the convention, yes?

So let's see what Trump (versus, to some extent) the rest of the Republicans manage to craft. It should be interesting.

I think it's time you disabused yourself of that pleasant little fairy tale about our fearless leaders being some sort of surrogate daddy or mommy, laying awake at night thinking about how to protect the kids. HA! In reality, they're thinking about who to sell them to so that they can get a few more shekels in their pockets.

Donald Trump’s Ghostwriter Tells What It's Like to Spend 18 Months With Donald Trump

all

Schwartz thought that “The Art of the Deal” would be an easy project....For research, he planned to interview Trump on a series of Saturday mornings.... But the discussion was soon hobbled by what Schwartz regards as one of Trump’s most essential characteristics: “He has no attention span.”

....“Trump has been written about a thousand ways from Sunday, but this fundamental aspect of who he is doesn’t seem to be fully understood,” Schwartz told me. “It’s implicit in a lot of what people write, but it’s never explicit—or, at least, I haven’t seen it.1 And that is that it’s impossible to keep him focussed on any topic, other than his own self-aggrandizement, for more than a few minutes, and even then . . . ” Schwartz trailed off, shaking his head in amazement. He regards Trump’s inability to concentrate as alarming in a Presidential candidate. “If he had to be briefed on a crisis in the Situation Room, it’s impossible to imagine him paying attention over a long period of time,” he said.

....[So] he came up with another plan. He would propose eavesdropping on Trump’s life by following him around on the job and, more important, by listening in on his office phone calls....There was not a single call that Trump deemed too private for Schwartz to hear. “He loved the attention,” Schwartz recalls. “If he could have had three hundred thousand people listening in, he would have been even happier.”

This year, Schwartz has heard some argue that there must be a more thoughtful and nuanced version of Donald Trump that he is keeping in reserve for after the campaign. “There isn’t,” Schwartz insists. “There is no private Trump.”

....He then tried to amplify the material he got from Trump by calling others involved in the deals. But their accounts often directly conflicted with Trump’s. “Lying is second nature to him,” Schwartz said. “More than anyone else I have ever met, Trump has the ability to convince himself that whatever he is saying at any given moment is true, or sort of true, or at least ought to be true.”...Schwartz says of Trump, “He lied strategically. He had a complete lack of conscience about it.” Since most people are “constrained by the truth,” Trump’s indifference to it “gave him a strange advantage.”

....Rhetorically, Schwartz’s aim in “The Art of the Deal” was to present Trump as the hero of every chapter, but, after looking into some of his supposedly brilliant deals, Schwartz concluded that there were cases in which there was no way to make Trump look good. So he sidestepped unflattering incidents and details. “I didn’t consider it my job to investigate,” he says.

....As far as Schwartz could tell, Trump spent very little time with his family and had no close friends....“He’d like people when they were helpful, and turn on them when they weren’t. It wasn’t personal. He’s a transactional man—it was all about what you could do for him.”

Well, I've been saying for a while I think there's something not quit right about that man. You don't have a permanent case of hypomania without being a little off. ADHD also crossed my mind, which would explain the difficulties in school, complete lack of filter between brain and mouth, general sleeplessness, and need for attention.

By turning Trump into just another example of various medical conditions, you're missing the point completely, Signym. Does the USA need in the Oval Office a guy who is a nonstop serial liar with no attention span who doesn't care about other people and has no interests other than his own self-glorification?

Oh, and Trump's a mediocre dealmaker too, which you would know from reading the article about writing Trump's The Art of the Deal. Dealing and negotiating with countries that could nuke Trump in his bed or deliberately crash the US economy are part of the job of being President. Trump thinks he can bullshit his way through any deal and then take it to court later for a fix, like he does with his real estate deals. But there does not exist a court that can fix Presidential negotiation screw-ups between nations.

What do Trump and T-Rex have in common? A teeny tiny pea brain.

So, to be fair, we have to give him (and supporters) a pass. Mentally challenged.

Besides, I would love to see Kim Un JuneBug visit the White House. Both him and
Putin (a certain someone's hero).
"Golly Gee Mr. President, what Big Hair you have" (that's Putin talking),
and Trump replies,
"Why thank you Vlad, what Big Muscles you have" (he says while stroking Putin's bare chest).

And they skip off into the sunset holding hands and making goo-goo eyes at each other.

We will make new allies, which will have some here changing their undergarments.

THE END

If anybody killed anybody, that would be Obama and Bush, not Hillary or Trump. Senators and Secretaries of State and Tycoons don’t have armies working for them to carry out kill orders.

I checked at PolitiFact to see who is a bigger liar. Is it Hillary? The details of every Hillary lie are at the URL below. It just so happens that Trump is the bigger liar.

The New York Times has yet another interview with Donald Trump, foreign policy genius. Let's listen in:

Mr. Trump even called into question whether, as president, he would automatically extend the security guarantees that give the 28 members of NATO the assurance that the full force of the United States military has their back.

For example, asked about Russia’s threatening activities that have unnerved the small Baltic States that are the most recent entrants into NATO, Mr. Trump said that if Russia attacked them, he would decide whether to come to their aid only after reviewing whether those nations “have fulfilled their obligations to us.

Vladimir Putin will be delighted to hear this.
www.nytimes.com/2016/07/21/us/politics/donald-trump-issues.html?_r=0

Trump's campaign manager immediately stepped in to say the Times had botched its quotes and Trump didn't really say this stuff about NATO. Manafort says NYT misquoted Trump on defending NATO allies and respecting existing agreements.

Why Recent Child Rape Case Against Trump Should Not Be Ignored: Victim Has A Witness

www.dailykos.com/story/2016/6/29/1543742/-Why-Recent-Child-Rape-Case-A
gainst-Trump-Should-Not-Be-Ignored-Victim-Has-A-Witness

NBC legal analyst, Lisa Bloom, makes a compelling argument as to why the MSM should not ignore the recent child rape case filed by “Jane Doe” against Donald Trump.

Jane Doe reports she was raped more than once by Donald Trump when she was 13 years old. The entire piece is worth a read because it cites other rape cases filed against Trump (link below).

However, in this diary I want to focus on the recent Jane Doe case because, as Bloom points out: “It is exceedingly rare for a sexual assault victim to have a witness.”
www.scribd.com/doc/316341058/Donald-Trump-Jeffrey-Epstein-Rape-Lawsuit
-and-Affidavits#fullscreen

In relation to why the media is avoiding this story, Lisa Bloom is fair handed. But I don’t think the MSM deserves a fair shake. In my opinion, the media wants to keep Trump viable to create a high-tension, general election horse race and anything that threatens Trump’s viability is ignored.

Lastly, since Trump was a pal of convicted child rapist Jeffrey Epstein, it's not a stretch to think Trump is one too. Like my dearly departed Mom used to say, “Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are.”

Do I believe Jane Doe and Tiffany Doe are telling the truth? Absolutely — yes.

All this mental activity about "why Trump". No, it's not racism and not it's not authoritarianism. The reason why people are supporting Trump is the same reason why people were supporting Sanders: People are pissed off, and rightly so. They feel - again, rightly so- that the economy is rigged, that they've been betrayed by the political establishment of both parties, and that politics is rigged. They're 100% correct. Right now, anyone who even smells of establishment isn't going to get their vote, and the more outrageous Trump is, the more he proves his dis-establishmentarianism. (Wow, 50 years time since THAT word came up!) People are SO pissed, they'll vote for a pig in a poke over Hillary.

Yanno, the sad thing is, the Democratic Party could have had this in the bag with Sanders. Instead, the Central Committee chose to go with someone who can't even offer the appearance of being halfway honest and somewhat uncorrupted: They decided to run THE most unpopular, corrupt, unsympathetic candidate available, which was Hillary. What is this- some sort of consolation prize for Hillary? Globalists getting their candidate on the ticket? Promises of, or payback for, Hillary fundraising for Dem candidates? Whatever the hell was behind that ridiculous decision, that must have been some backroom deal!

"if you can judge a person by their friends, can't you judge them by their enemies as well?" Not really. Not when the "enemy" is really your twin brother and you are both competing for the same prize.

My "hatred" of Ted Cruz is based upon his demand that Obamacare be eliminated. And his shutdown of the government in 2013. And his multi-trillion dollar tax breaks for the wealthy. Ted and Trump are on the same page, except Trump didn't shutdown anything and Ted is not an enormous liar. Ted and Trump are in conflict because Ted also wants the Presidency. If Trump loses and Ted supported him, Ted will never be President. By opposing Trump now, Ted increases his own chances of being President.

The reason the American system is "rigged", as you say, is because of something the little people who are pissed, as you say, don't want to give up because losing it strikes them as "communism" or as "unfair". If I'm born owning a trillion, or a hundred, in crude oil and natural gas, the trillion, or the hundred, is mine alone. I don't have to share. If I own Manhattan skyscrapers, or tiny house in Texas, I don't have to share. It is all mine. Own 10% of Amazon and Google, or just 10 shares? I don't have to share.

While the "rigged" system, as you say, protects the little people and their little amount of wealth, it also protects almost as effectively the wealthiest people. The wealthy have only a slight disadvantage: the inheritance tax, which is only paid by the wealthy and only after you're dead. All your complaining about the system being "rigged" is just complaints about protecting the wealth of people who don't have much. People with a hundred or a thousand times more wealth than ordinary people get, almost but not quite, a hundred or a thousand times more protection for their wealth.

Is it necessary to say if you have no wealth, the "rigged" system gives you no protection? Americans seem to think that is just fine so long as it is not them getting no protection. It is only those "other" Americans without wealth that should go without protection.

Trump is NOT going to fix that. He has figured out better than the people who dream he is their savior how the "rigged" system can work to his advantage.

Bernie would wilt before Trump's followers wrath at him being a commie.

Once that starts, Bernie would get less than 50% of the vote because too many voting Americans idolize billionaires and despise redistributing wealth. No one knows for sure that Trump is a billionaire because he won’t release his tax returns. Do the Trump Americans who worship at their own tiny pile of wealth remember those tax returns? They don’t. It is too invasive of Trump’s privacy to insist he release the returns. The Trump Americans are just as dishonest on their own tax returns.

I had an opportunity last week to see the tax returns of a Trump-American-Texan who I was making a loan to. Her form C for a sole proprietorship only included half of what it should have, going back many years.

I called her after writing that. She said she didn't want her tax money being used to support "those kind of people". You know the kind, the kind that don't look like her and she does not welcome into her shop because, you know, they can't be trusted.

Mark Cuban, former Trump supporter, on what he thinks of the guy now:

"There's that guy who'll walk into the bar and say anything to get laid," Cuban said. "That's Donald Trump right now to a T. But it's all of us who are going to get fucked."

None of Trump's business partners are speaking at the convention. "They’re not coming forward to speak. They’re not coming forward to give him money."

No one who does business with Trump wants to repeat the experience.

I see that Peter Thiel will be speaking tonight at Trump’s rally. He is another multi-billionaire made in the same mold as Trump. “Make sure our government puts American citizens first!” In actuality, that is exactly how the system works with the people having the most wealth being at the head of the line. Wealth is also how middle class Americans locate their position-in-the-queue way back at the tail end of the line. They just can’t seem to understand that the system middle class Americans created for themselves at the back of the line is how the system will work all the way to the front of the line where Trump and Thiel are.

Obviously, if you know nothing about Thiel or Trump but what they tell you about themselves, you will love Thiel and Trump for all the wonders they promise you.

Trump doesn’t know what an alliance is for
www.vox.com/2016/7/21/12245562/donald-trump-new-york-times-interview-f
ull-transcript

Trump does not appear to have any understanding of the general purpose of military alliances.

Here he is speaking not just of NATO but of the general American practice of forming security alliances with foreign countries — a practice he seems to think should be replaced by an imperial regime in which America extorts cash tribute from countries under our thumb:

TRUMP: If we cannot be properly reimbursed for the tremendous cost of our military protecting other countries, and in many cases the countries I’m talking about are extremely rich. Then if we cannot make a deal, which I believe we will be able to, and which I would prefer being able to, but if we cannot make a deal, I would like you to say, I would prefer being able to, some people, the one thing they took out of your last story, you know, some people, the fools and the haters, they said, “Oh, Trump doesn’t want to protect you.” I would prefer that we be able to continue, but if we are not going to be reasonably reimbursed for the tremendous cost of protecting these massive nations with tremendous wealth — you have the tape going on?

SANGER: We do.

HABERMAN: We both do.

One thing that’s particularly remarkable about this passage is that Trump specifically acknowledges that he’s talked about this before, with these very same two reporters, and that his remarks were not well-received. That earlier interview took place in on March 26, so Trump has had almost four months to devise a better-informed answer.

He just didn’t bother.

Donald Trump Lost All of These Business Deals Since June

Quote:

The final Republican presidential debate of 2015 was held last night at the Venetian Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Despite the best efforts of former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and others, no one was able to mortally wound the ascendant candidacy of Donald Trump.

Trump launched his bid to win the Republican nomination for the presidency in June 2015, and immediately embarked on a berserker-mode political campaign, in which he’s made provocative statements about Muslims, Mexicans, women and the Chinese.

None of these statements have had any ill effect on his standing in the polls. In fact, Trump’s lead over his rivals has only grown. This flies in the face of conventional wisdom, which holds that his statements should have destroyed his candidacy faster than a tweet from Anthony Weiner.

While he may not have lost any of his political supporters, some of his rhetoric has caused at least some of his business efforts to suffer, and it remains to be seen whether Trump can undo the damage when the smoke clears. Fortune takes a look at some of the business deals that have taken a hit since Donald Trump announced his candidacy.

Univision deal

I guess it's pretty clear why Univision would end their business relationship with Trump: politics. Apparently, Trump believes in what he says, enough to lose money over it. More fallout from his comments about illegal immigrants:

Quote:

Univision, the largest Spanish-language television broadcaster in the United States, announced that in response to these comments, it would not air the 2015 Miss USA Pageant. Furthermore, it would sever ties with Miss Universe Organization co-owner Donald Trump.

NBC cut ties with Trump and canceled plans to air both the Miss USA Pageant and the Miss Universe Pageant, both joint ventures with the real estate mogul. It didn’t stop there either – NBC also nixed any future involvement with Trump’s reality show, “The Celebrity Apprentice.”

NBC cited his statement about Mexican immigrants as its reason for ending its relationship with Trump. The network was also the subject of a Change.org petition with over 200,000 signatures, calling for it to cancel all three shows. Ultimately, the Reelz digital cable network carried the Miss USA broadcast.

Macy’s ... would discontinue its Donald Trump line of menswear in response to his comments. Macy’s had carried the clothing line since 2004, and Trump had appeared in television advertisements for the store.

“We are disappointed and distressed by recent remarks about immigrants from Mexico,” the store said. “Macy’s is a company that stands for diversity and inclusion.

Of illegal immigrants, apparently.

Turnberry deal

Donald Trump is an avid golfer, and when he bought the legendary Scottish golf course known as Turnberry in 2014 for a rumored $60 million, he did so with the highest of hopes, that in 2020 the course would host the Open Championship. Also known as the Open and the British Open, it all means one thing – one of the major championships in professional golf, and a coup for any course that hosts it.

Until very recently, those with the inside track had said that the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, the sport’s governing authority outside of the U.S., would probably hold the 2020 tournament at Trump Turnberry. However, after he had some harsh words for Muslims, Mexicans, women and China, The Independent on Sunday reported that he could now kiss those dreams goodbye, as one does an errant golf ball that disappears into the horizon

Trump didn't lose these business deals because of poor business, or because of a personal falling-out, or some financial betrayal, but because of politics. And as we all know from our experience here, it's hard to keep politics separate from anything else.

Now, while I think what The Donald said about Mexicans was intemperate, I'm 100% behind booting out all illegal immigrants and those who overstayed their visas by a few years.

I heard part of Trump's speech on my way home, and as I got in the door.

With a few exceptions, I agreed with much of Trump's sentiments:

End ridiculous wars
Refuse to sign bad trade deals
Bring manufacturing back to the USA
Stop allowing the USA to be the dumping grounds of the disaffected

Trump is a nationalist.

It's very clear - from his speeches in any case- that he intends to place AMERICAN interests first, not the interests of banks, and international businesses, the Balts, Israel, Mexico, or China.

FULL TEXT OF TRUMP'S ACCEPTANCE SPEECH
By all accounts, it was a much-longer-than-usual acceptance speech, but there is a logic behind addressing all of these points: It makes hash of the Republican platform. Whatever it was, it doesn't count any more. But for the sake of completeness I'll see if I can find the platform as well.

Quote:

Friends, delegates and fellow Americans: I humbly and gratefully accept your nomination for the presidency of the United States.

Together, we will lead our party back to the White House, and we will lead our country back to safety, prosperity, and peace. We will be a country of generosity and warmth. But we will also be a country of law and order.

Our Convention occurs at a moment of crisis for our nation. The attacks on our police, and the terrorism in our cities, threaten our very way of life. Any politician who does not grasp this danger is not fit to lead our country.

Americans watching this address tonight have seen the recent images of violence in our streets and the chaos in our communities. Many have witnessed this violence personally, some have even been its victims.

I have a message for all of you: the crime and violence that today afflicts our nation will soon come to an end. Beginning on January 20th 2017, safety will be restored.

The most basic duty of government is to defend the lives of its own citizens. Any government that fails to do so is a government unworthy to lead.

It is finally time for a straightforward assessment of the state of our nation.

I will present the facts plainly and honestly. We cannot afford to be so politically correct anymore.

So if you want to hear the corporate spin, the carefully-crafted lies, and the media myths the Democrats are holding their convention next week.

But here, at our convention, there will be no lies. We will honor the American people with the truth, and nothing else.

Decades of progress made in bringing down crime are now being reversed by this Administration’s rollback of criminal enforcement.

Homicides last year increased by 17% in America’s fifty largest cities. That’s the largest increase in 25 years. In our nation’s capital, killings have risen by 50 percent. They are up nearly 60% in nearby Baltimore.

In the President’s hometown of Chicago, more than 2,000 have been the victims of shootings this year alone. And more than 3,600 have been killed in the Chicago area since he took office.

The number of police officers killed in the line of duty has risen by almost 50% compared to this point last year. Nearly 180,000 illegal immigrants with criminal records, ordered deported from our country, are tonight roaming free to threaten peaceful citizens.

The number of new illegal immigrant families who have crossed the border so far this year already exceeds the entire total from 2015. They are being released by the tens of thousands into our communities with no regard for the impact on public safety or resources.

One such border-crosser was released and made his way to Nebraska. There, he ended the life of an innocent young girl named Sarah Root. She was 21 years-old, and was killed the day after graduating from college with a 4.0 Grade Point Average. Her killer was then released a second time, and he is now a fugitive from the law.

I’ve met Sarah’s beautiful family. But to this Administration, their amazing daughter was just one more American life that wasn’t worth protecting. One more child to sacrifice on the altar of open borders. What about our economy?

Again, I will tell you the plain facts that have been edited out of your nightly news and your morning newspaper: Nearly Four in 10 African-American children are living in poverty, while 58% of African American youth are not employed. 2 million more Latinos are in poverty today than when the President took his oath of office less than eight years ago. Another 14 million people have left the workforce entirely.

Household incomes are down more than $4,000 since the year 2000. Our manufacturing trade deficit has reached an all-time high – nearly $800 billion in a single year. The budget is no better.

President Obama has doubled our national debt to more than $19 trillion, and growing. Yet, what do we have to show for it? Our roads and bridges are falling apart, our airports are in Third World condition, and forty-three million Americans are on food stamps.

Now let us consider the state of affairs abroad.

Not only have our citizens endured domestic disaster, but they have lived through one international humiliation after another. We all remember the images of our sailors being forced to their knees by their Iranian captors at gunpoint.

This was just prior to the signing of the Iran deal, which gave back to Iran $150 billion and gave us nothing – it will go down in history as one of the worst deals ever made. Another humiliation came when president Obama drew a red line in Syria – and the whole world knew it meant nothing.

In Libya, our consulate – the symbol of American prestige around the globe – was brought down in flames. America is far less safe – and the world is far less stable – than when Obama made the decision to put Hillary Clinton in charge of America’s foreign policy.

I am certain it is a decision he truly regrets. Her bad instincts and her bad judgment – something pointed out by Bernie Sanders – are what caused the disasters unfolding today. Let’s review the record. In 2009, pre-Hillary, ISIS was not even on the map.

Libya was cooperating. Egypt was peaceful. Iraq was seeing a reduction in violence. Iran was being choked by sanctions. Syria was under control. After four years of Hillary Clinton, what do we have? ISIS has spread across the region, and the world. Libya is in ruins, and our Ambassador and his staff were left helpless to die at the hands of savage killers. Egypt was turned over to the radical Muslim brotherhood, forcing the military to retake control. Iraq is in chaos.

Iran is on the path to nuclear weapons. Syria is engulfed in a civil war and a refugee crisis that now threatens the West. After fifteen years of wars in the Middle East, after trillions of dollars spent and thousands of lives lost, the situation is worse than it has ever been before.

This is the legacy of Hillary Clinton: death, destruction and weakness.

But Hillary Clinton’s legacy does not have to be America’s legacy. The problems we face now – poverty and violence at home, war and destruction abroad – will last only as long as we continue relying on the same politicians who created them. A change in leadership is required to change these outcomes. Tonight, I will share with you my plan of action for America.

The most important difference between our plan and that of our opponents, is that our plan will put America First. Americanism, not globalism, will be our credo. As long as we are led by politicians who will not put America First, then we can be assured that other nations will not treat America with respect. This will all change in 2017.

The American People will come first once again. My plan will begin with safety at home – which means safe neighborhoods, secure borders, and protection from terrorism. There can be no prosperity without law and order. On the economy, I will outline reforms to add millions of new jobs and trillions in new wealth that can be used to rebuild America.

A number of these reforms that I will outline tonight will be opposed by some of our nation’s most powerful special interests. That is because these interests have rigged our political and economic system for their exclusive benefit.

Big business, elite media and major donors are lining up behind the campaign of my opponent because they know she will keep our rigged system in place. They are throwing money at her because they have total control over everything she does. She is their puppet, and they pull the strings.

That is why Hillary Clinton’s message is that things will never change. My message is that things have to change – and they have to change right now. Every day I wake up determined to deliver for the people I have met all across this nation that have been neglected, ignored, and abandoned.

I have visited the laid-off factory workers, and the communities crushed by our horrible and unfair trade deals. These are the forgotten men and women of our country. People who work hard but no longer have a voice.

I AM YOUR VOICE.

I have embraced crying mothers who have lost their children because our politicians put their personal agendas before the national good. I have no patience for injustice, no tolerance for government incompetence, no sympathy for leaders who fail their citizens.

This is where I tuned in ...

Quote:

When innocent people suffer, because our political system lacks the will, or the courage, or the basic decency to enforce our laws – or worse still, has sold out to some corporate lobbyist for cash – I am not able to look the other way.

And when a Secretary of State illegally stores her emails on a private server, deletes 33,000 of them so the authorities can’t see her crime, puts our country at risk, lies about it in every different form and faces no consequence – I know that corruption has reached a level like never before.

When the FBI Director says that the Secretary of State was “extremely careless” and “negligent,” in handling our classified secrets, I also know that these terms are minor compared to what she actually did. They were just used to save her from facing justice for her terrible crimes.

In fact, her single greatest accomplishment may be committing such an egregious crime and getting away with it – especially when others have paid so dearly. When that same Secretary of State rakes in millions of dollars trading access and favors to special interests and foreign powers I know the time for action has come.

I have joined the political arena so that the powerful can no longer beat up on people that cannot defend themselves. Nobody knows the system better than me, which is why I alone can fix it. I have seen firsthand how the system is rigged against our citizens, just like it was rigged against Bernie Sanders – he never had a chance.

But his supporters will join our movement, because we will fix his biggest issue: trade. Millions of Democrats will join our movement because we are going to fix the system so it works for all Americans. In this cause, I am proud to have at my side the next Vice President of the United States: Governor Mike Pence of Indiana.

We will bring the same economic success to America that Mike brought to Indiana. He is a man of character and accomplishment. He is the right man for the job. The first task for our new Administration will be to liberate our citizens from the crime and terrorism and lawlessness that threatens their communities.

America was shocked to its core when our police officers in Dallas were brutally executed. In the days after Dallas, we have seen continued threats and violence against our law enforcement officials. Law officers have been shot or killed in recent days in Georgia, Missouri, Wisconsin, Kansas, Michigan and Tennessee.

On Sunday, more police were gunned down in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Three were killed, and four were badly injured. An attack on law enforcement is an attack on all Americans. I have a message to every last person threatening the peace on our streets and the safety of our police: when I take the oath of office next year, I will restore law and order our country.

I will work with, and appoint, the best prosecutors and law enforcement officials in the country to get the job done. In this race for the White House, I am the Law And Order candidate. The irresponsible rhetoric of our President, who has used the pulpit of the presidency to divide us by race and color, has made America a more dangerous environment for everyone.

This Administration has failed America’s inner cities. It’s failed them on education. It’s failed them on jobs. It’s failed them on crime. It’s failed them at every level.

When I am President, I will work to ensure that all of our kids are treated equally, and protected equally.

Every action I take, I will ask myself: does this make life better for young Americans in Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit, Ferguson who have as much of a right to live out their dreams as any other child America?

To make life safe in America, we must also address the growing threats we face from outside America: we are going to defeat the barbarians of ISIS. Once again, France is the victim of brutal Islamic terrorism.

Men, women and children viciously mowed down. Lives ruined. Families ripped apart. A nation in mourning.

The damage and devastation that can be inflicted by Islamic radicals has been over and over – at the World Trade Center, at an office party in San Bernardino, at the Boston Marathon, and a military recruiting center in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Only weeks ago, in Orlando, Florida, 49 wonderful Americans were savagely murdered by an Islamic terrorist. This time, the terrorist targeted our LGBT community. As your President, I will do everything in my power to protect our LGBT citizens from the violence and oppression of a hateful foreign ideology. To protect us from terrorism, we need to focus on three things.

We must have the best intelligence gathering operation in the world. We must abandon the failed policy of nation building and regime change that Hillary Clinton pushed in Iraq, Libya, Egypt and Syria. Instead, we must work with all of our allies who share our goal of destroying ISIS and stamping out Islamic terror.

This includes working with our greatest ally in the region, the State of Israel. Lastly, we must immediately suspend immigration from any nation that has been compromised by terrorism until such time as proven vetting mechanisms have been put in place.

My opponent has called for a radical 550% increase in Syrian refugees on top of existing massive refugee flows coming into our country under President Obama. She proposes this despite the fact that there’s no way to screen these refugees in order to find out who they are or where they come from. I only want to admit individuals into our country who will support our values and love our people.

Anyone who endorses violence, hatred or oppression is not welcome in our country and never will be.

Decades of record immigration have produced lower wages and higher unemployment for our citizens, especially for African-American and Latino workers. We are going to have an immigration system that works, but one that works for the American people.

On Monday, we heard from three parents whose children were killed by illegal immigrants Mary Ann Mendoza, Sabine Durden, and Jamiel Shaw. They are just three brave representatives of many thousands. Of all my travels in this country, nothing has affected me more deeply than the time I have spent with the mothers and fathers who have lost their children to violence spilling across our border.

These families have no special interests to represent them. There are no demonstrators to protest on their behalf. My opponent will never meet with them, or share in their pain. Instead, my opponent wants Sanctuary Cities. But where was sanctuary for Kate Steinle? Where was Sanctuary for the children of Mary Ann, Sabine and Jamiel? Where was sanctuary for all the other Americans who have been so brutally murdered, and who have suffered so horribly?

These wounded American families have been alone. But they are alone no longer. Tonight, this candidate and this whole nation stand in their corner to support them, to send them our love, and to pledge in their honor that we will save countless more families from suffering the same awful fate.

We are going to build a great border wall to stop illegal immigration, to stop the gangs and the violence, and to stop the drugs from pouring into our communities. I have been honored to receive the endorsement of America’s Border Patrol Agents, and will work directly with them to protect the integrity of our lawful immigration system.

By ending catch-and-release on the border, we will stop the cycle of human smuggling and violence. Illegal border crossings will go down. Peace will be restored. By enforcing the rules for the millions who overstay their visas, our laws will finally receive the respect they deserve.

Tonight, I want every American whose demands for immigration security have been denied – and every politician who has denied them – to listen very closely to the words I am about to say.

On January 21st of 2017, the day after I take the oath of office, Americans will finally wake up in a country where the laws of the United States are enforced. We are going to be considerate and compassionate to everyone.

But my greatest compassion will be for our own struggling citizens. My plan is the exact opposite of the radical and dangerous immigration policy of Hillary Clinton. Americans want relief from uncontrolled immigration. Communities want relief.

Yet Hillary Clinton is proposing mass amnesty, mass immigration, and mass lawlessness. Her plan will overwhelm your schools and hospitals, further reduce your jobs and wages, and make it harder for recent immigrants to escape from poverty.

I have a different vision for our workers. It begins with a new, fair trade policy that protects our jobs and stands up to countries that cheat. It’s been a signature message of my campaign from day one, and it will be a signature feature of my presidency from the moment I take the oath of office.

I have made billions of dollars in business making deals – now I’m going to make our country rich again. I am going to turn our bad trade agreements into great ones. America has lost nearly-one third of its manufacturing jobs since 1997, following the enactment of disastrous trade deals supported by Bill and Hillary Clinton.

Remember, it was Bill Clinton who signed NAFTA, one of the worst economic deals ever made by our country.

Never again.

I am going to bring our jobs back to Ohio and to America – and I am not going to let companies move to other countries, firing their employees along the way, without consequences.

My opponent, on the other hand, has supported virtually every trade agreement that has been destroying our middle class. She supported NAFTA, and she supported China’s entrance into the World Trade Organization – another one of her husband’s colossal mistakes.

She supported the job killing trade deal with South Korea. She has supported the Trans-Pacific Partnership. The TPP will not only destroy our manufacturing, but it will make America subject to the rulings of foreign governments. I pledge to never sign any trade agreement that hurts our workers, or that diminishes our freedom and independence. Instead, I will make individual deals with individual countries.

No longer will we enter into these massive deals, with many countries, that are thousands of pages long – and which no one from our country even reads or understands. We are going to enforce all trade violations, including through the use of taxes and tariffs, against any country that cheats.

This includes stopping China’s outrageous theft of intellectual property, along with their illegal product dumping, and their devastating currency manipulation. Our horrible trade agreements with China and many others, will be totally renegotiated. That includes renegotiating NAFTA to get a much better deal for America – and we’ll walk away if we don’t get the deal that we want. We are going to start building and making things again.

Next comes the reform of our tax laws, regulations and energy rules. While Hillary Clinton plans a massive tax increase, I have proposed the largest tax reduction of any candidate who has declared for the presidential race this year – Democrat or Republican. Middle-income Americans will experience profound relief, and taxes will be simplified for everyone.

America is one of the highest-taxed nations in the world. Reducing taxes will cause new companies and new jobs to come roaring back into our country. Then we are going to deal with the issue of regulation, one of the greatest job-killers of them all. Excessive regulation is costing our country as much as $2 trillion a year, and we will end it. We are going to lift the restrictions on the production of American energy. This will produce more than $20 trillion in job creating economic activity over the next four decades.

My opponent, on the other hand, wants to put the great miners and steel workers of our country out of work – that will never happen when I am President. With these new economic policies, trillions of dollars will start flowing into our country.

This new wealth will improve the quality of life for all Americans – We will build the roads, highways, bridges, tunnels, airports, and the railways of tomorrow. This, in turn, will create millions more jobs. We will rescue kids from failing schools by helping their parents send them to a safe school of their choice.

My opponent would rather protect education bureaucrats than serve American children. We will repeal and replace disastrous Obamacare. You will be able to choose your own doctor again. And we will fix TSA at the airports! We will completely rebuild our depleted military, and the countries that we protect, at a massive loss, will be asked to pay their fair share.

We will take care of our great Veterans like they have never been taken care of before. My opponent dismissed the VA scandal as being not widespread – one more sign of how out of touch she really is. We are going to ask every Department Head in government to provide a list of wasteful spending projects that we can eliminate in my first 100 days. The politicians have talked about it, I’m going to do it. We are also going to appoint justices to the United States Supreme Court who will uphold our laws and our Constitution.

The replacement for Justice Scalia will be a person of similar views and principles. This will be one of the most important issues decided by this election. My opponent wants to essentially abolish the 2nd amendment. I, on the other hand, received the early and strong endorsement of the National Rifle Association and will protect the right of all Americans to keep their families safe.

At this moment, I would like to thank the evangelical community who have been so good to me and so supportive. You have so much to contribute to our politics, yet our laws prevent you from speaking your minds from your own pulpits.

An amendment, pushed by Lyndon Johnson, many years ago, threatens religious institutions with a loss of their tax-exempt status if they openly advocate their political views.

I am going to work very hard to repeal that language and protect free speech for all Americans. We can accomplish these great things, and so much else – all we need to do is start believing in ourselves and in our country again. It is time to show the whole world that America Is Back – bigger, and better and stronger than ever before.

In this journey, I'm so lucky to have at my side my wife Melania and my wonderful children, Don, Ivanka, Eric, Tiffany, and Barron: you will always be my greatest source of pride and joy. My Dad, Fred Trump, was the smartest and hardest working man I ever knew. I wonder sometimes what he’d say if he were here to see this tonight.

It’s because of him that I learned, from my youngest age, to respect the dignity of work and the dignity of working people. He was a guy most comfortable in the company of bricklayers, carpenters, and electricians and I have a lot of that in me also. Then there’s my mother, Mary. She was strong, but also warm and fair-minded. She was a truly great mother. She was also one of the most honest and charitable people I have ever known, and a great judge of character.

To my sisters Mary Anne and Elizabeth, my brother Robert and my late brother Fred, I will always give you my love you are most special to me. I have loved my life in business.

But now, my sole and exclusive mission is to go to work for our country – to go to work for all of you. It’s time to deliver a victory for the American people. But to do that, we must break free from the petty politics of the past.

America is a nation of believers, dreamers, and strivers that is being led by a group of censors, critics, and cynics.

Remember: all of the people telling you that you can’t have the country you want, are the same people telling you that I wouldn’t be standing here tonight. No longer can we rely on those elites in media, and politics, who will say anything to keep a rigged system in place.

Instead, we must choose to Believe In America. History is watching us now.

It’s waiting to see if we will rise to the occasion, and if we will show the whole world that America is still free and independent and strong.

My opponent asks her supporters to recite a three-word loyalty pledge. It reads: “I’m With Her”. I choose to recite a different pledge.

My pledge reads: “I’M WITH YOU – THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.”

I am your voice.

So to every parent who dreams for their child, and every child who dreams for their future, I say these words to you tonight: I’m With You, and I will fight for you, and I will win for you.

To all Americans tonight, in all our cities and towns, I make this promise: We Will Make America Strong Again.

We Will Make America Proud Again.

We Will Make America Safe Again.

And We Will Make America Great Again.

THANK YOU.

So is the draft DNC platform, which KIKI and I posted independently. I commented at the time that it's full of "we will" and "we believe" and "we must", without any path on how to get from "here" to "there".

There are several key things MISSING from the DNC platform, however, which in my mind are crucial, and along which "more of the same" will drive the USA over a cliff.

No clear repudiation of TPP and TTIP.

No clear repudiation of Saudi Arabia's human rights failures and its not insignificant role in spreading terrorism throughout the ME and N Africa. In fact, no mention of Saudi Arabia at all.

No mention of the disaster that is Libya, and all of the other ridiculous wars that both the RNC and the DNC neocons have gotten us into.

No mention of illegal Israeli settlements which are driving violence and preventing peace.

I don't like everything that Trump said, but I like the general direction that he's pointing: AMERICAN FIRST

Trump could have said in his acceptance speech: “Unpopular TV shows get canceled. If I become unpopular as President, if I don’t keep my promises, if illegals are not all deported and I do mean all illegals, if factory jobs continue to decrease, I pledge that you can cancel me!” Trump did not commit himself to either success or resignation. He could have easily made that pledge last night when it really would have counted as an unbreakable promise from Trump to America.

Trump would be following his book The Art of the Deal: Deliver the Goods

You can’t con people, at least not for long. You can create excitement, you can do wonderful promotion and get all kinds of press, and you can throw in a little hyperbole. But if you don’t deliver the goods, people will eventually catch on.

I think of Jimmy Carter. After he lost the election to Ronald Reagan, Carter came to see me in my office. He told me he was seeking contributions to the Jimmy Carter Library. I asked how much he had in mind. And he said, “Donald, I would be very appreciative if you contributed five million dollars.”

I was dumbfounded. I didn’t even answer him.

But that experience also taught me something. Until then, I’d never understood how Jimmy Carter became president. The answer is that as poorly qualified as he was for the job, Jimmy Carter had the nerve, the guts, the balls, to ask for something extraordinary. That ability above all helped him get elected president. But then, of course, the American people caught on pretty quickly that Carter couldn’t do the job, and he lost in a landslide when he ran for reelection.

Ronald Reagan is another example. He is so smooth and so effective a performer that he completely won over the American people. Only now, nearly seven years later, are people beginning to question whether there’s anything beneath that smile.

I see the same thing in my business, which is full of people who talk a good game but don’t deliver. When Trump Tower became successful, a lot of developers got the idea of imitating our atrium, and they ordered their architects to come up with a design. The drawings would come back, and they would start costing out the job.

What they discovered is that the bronze escalators were going to cost a million dollars extra, and the waterfall was going to cost two million dollars, and the marble was going to cost many millions more. They saw that it all added up to many millions of dollars, and all of a sudden these people with these great ambitions would decide, well, let’s forget about the atrium.

When Trump calculates the cost of his ambitious promises in his acceptance speech he will forget the promises. He won’t resign, either.

Who did you vote for?

I did not vote for Mitt in 2012, but for Obama for a second time, despite Mitt being admirably charitable. No one knows how charitable Trump is because he has still not kept his promise to release his tax returns. Yes, he has given BS excuses for why, but why believe him?

“All I did is point out the fact that on the cover of the National Enquirer there was a picture of him and crazy Lee Harvey Oswald having breakfast,” Trump said on Friday, July 22. “This was a magazine that, frankly, in many respects, should be very respected.” It was just Trump repeating another of his “Liar, liar, pants on fire” moments from earlier in the campaign.

As it turns out, Obama had a lock on CA anyway. My vote REALLY didn't count, so I was free to vote a protest vote, so I voted for Jill Stein. I figured that's more effective than not voting, and if I'm going to add my vote to any tally under those circumstances it made sense to add it to a smaller party and make a larger % difference.

ETA: If the polling had been closer, I'm not sure who I would have voted for, but probably Jill Stein anyway.

So, as I mentioned in another thread, I'll be away a lot more. Have fun!

Who else did you vote for besides Jill Stein? Because if you voted for other Green Party candidates, you really sent a protest that was noticed. I noticed that the Green Party never has been elected to any national office and has no influence on anything. The Green Party might just as well be living and voting in Argentina for all difference it makes in the USA.

You may not have noticed , but both of CA's senators are democrats. Feinstein was elected with 62.5% of the vote vs Elizabeth Emken with 37.5% (Feinstein's war-hawk, pro-Israel stance boosted her numbers, as did Emken's unknown, under-funded status), Boxer with 52.2% vs (the uber-wealthy, well-funded and well-known) Fiorina with 42.2%. There was NOTHING riding on those votes.

Meanwhile. thanks to gerrymandering, CA House seats are secure. Nothing riding on THOSE votes either!

Say, you're not still thinking that Hillary is going to, somehow, magically, help out those down-ticket democrats, are you?

As a matter of fact, I have not voted for Feinstein since she sent me a smarmy response letter, from her then-exalted position as head of the Senate "Intelligence" Committee, telling me well, I know things that you don't know when I wrote to her urging her to vote against authorizing use of force in Iraq. That was in 2002. Hey, I know an evil waste of human flesh when I see one, so I voted Green.

I'm proud to say that I have not had a hand in helping that stupid, warmongering bitch get elected since then. I may not be able to be part of the solution, but at least I'm not part of the problem.

Are you so anxious to "do something" that you can't "throw your vote away" on a losing candidate, even if it means being part of something terrible?

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

I'm probably one of very few people who watched Donald's entire speech. There were many moments where I was thinking - 'yes, but ...', or 'that's wrong', or 'his crowd sounds like it's packed with professional boosters', or 'his attempt to reach Hispanics and African-Americans is pretty transparent'.

OTOH there were many, many moments where I thought 'Hillary could EASILY' make this go away'. But she hasn't, and she won't. Which is why Donald has a lot of the support he does. He's tapped into the feeling that many have that - if they're lucky enough to be working - they're working longer hours, and doing more, for less pay. That US foreign policy has been a losing quagmire of creating failed nations, one after the other. That they don't count with the government, which ceased listening to them and heeding their situation decades ago, that it only listens to the wealthy and powerful.

As I mentioned earlier, Democrats lost a big chunk of their supporters during Reagan's second term, as the bonus of being the only industrialized nation left intact after WWII started to wane. Wages slipped and more women had to go to work to maintain the family economy. And Democrats? Well, they haven't budged from their self-serving 'business as usual' back-room deal-making of back then, except of course when they adopted the self-enriching 'third-way' new internationalism of Billary.

Meanwhile, Republicans promised a Tea Party revolution for the people, and it got co-opted, then the 'true' Tea Party politicians tried to distinguish themselves, and failed - and now, an uber-rich outsider is saying what Republicans have been aggrieved with all this time. And what A LOT of people have been aggrieved with since 2007, when the Great Global Recession hit. That they've been sacrificed to big business by BOTH business AND their own government.

And this is going to segue into Hillary, since it's pointless to talk about one without talking about the other.

Hillary, as I said, could evaporate a lot of Donald's valid criticisms of her if she would just disavow her support for 'free' trade agreements once and for all, promise to break up too big to fail banks, and admit her foreign policy failures and get the US out of nation-breaking.

But she won't.

And that says a lot about who she really represents, which a lot of people very correctly interpret. Of course, second, you could continue to blame the hundreds of thousands of former democrats for being insufficiently fervent in their worship of the DNC over the last 30 years. Or you could examine the failure of the DNC to rise to the challenge of being able to fairly represent the people of the US.

Trump positions himself as the opposite of the DNC. You'd have to be a real loser to be conned by Trump. He will not be the savior of America's losers because he does not believe in what he says. He only says it because losers will believe. The Washington Post fact-checked Trump’s speech. You can watch the video of Trump and get comments from the Post about his lies here:

Now you need to ask why Trump is so successful. Laurie Penny explains here in more poetic, less trollish language than I would ever use:
https://medium.com/welcome-to-the-scream-room/im-with-the-banned-8d1b6
e0b2932#.qzejcy8bz

Like Trump, and like a lot of successful politicians in this postmodern circus, they channel their own narcissism to give voice to the wordless, formless rage of the people neoliberalism left behind. They offer new win conditions for the humiliated masses. Welcome to the scream room. There’s a cheese plate.

I run into a British writer from the Spectator, a moderate right-wing magazine, who takes the opportunity to apologise for being mean to me on the internet. He thought that was just how you’re supposed to do Twitter. We become, briefly, allies on foreign soil. A certain school of spiteful camaraderie, of bloodless political jousting before dinner, has long been the form of political discourse in Britain, where the mainstream media is dominated by private school graduates who were trained to debate as if it were a bloodsport in which empathy is a handicap. London media wonks routinely treat one another as sparring partners and drinking buddies despite their political differences: after all, aren’t we all on the same team really? Aren’t we playing the same game?

I have never understood this game. That’s why I’ve always refused to debate Milo in public. Not because I’m frightened I’ll lose, but because I know I’ll lose, because I care and he doesn’t—and that means he’s already won. Help and forgive me, but I actually believe human beings can be better than this.

My new Spectator friend is as bewildered as I am by the way Americans take [Trump], Milo and his ilk seriously, by their willingness to take pride in performative bigotry and call it strength. It works. It sells. It’s the unholy marriage of that soulless debate culture that works so well in Britain, transplanted to a nation with no social safety net and half a billion guns. It works, in part, because of the essentially cult-like nature of U.S. culture and the structured ignorance that accompanies it. America is a nation eaten by its own myth. The entire idea of America is about believing impossible things. Nobody said those things had to be benign. [Or true.]

[The Milo mentioned is Milo Yiannopoulos. If you google him and Adam Baldwin (Jayne to the fans) you will discovery that they have a mutual admiration. ]

I'll give you more of the article about Milo:

I’m not going to quote Milo’s speech here. You can find it online if you want to. It’s a very good speech, for a given value of “very good” that’s designed to leave decent people keening in a corner over the death of reason. He tells a racist joke. The crowd goes wild.

Milo [and Trump] peddle a pageant of insincerity that is immediately legible to fellow Brits. Americans understand irony differently, and sometimes not at all. The crowd of excitable young and young-ish people gathered to hear him pontificate believe what he’s saying, even if he doesn’t. Which he doesn’t. And it doesn’t matter.

It doesn’t matter that he doesn’t mean it. It doesn’t matter that he’s secretly quite a sweet, vulnerable person who is gracious to those he considers friends. It doesn’t matter that somewhere in the rhinestone-rimmed hamster wheel of his mind is a conscience. It doesn’t matter because the harm he does is real.

He is leading a yammering army of trolls to victory on terms they barely understand. This is how we got to a place where headline speakers at the Republican convention—one of the most significant political events in the national narrative of world’s greatest superpower—are now actively calling for the slaughter and deportation of foreigners, declaring that Hillary Clinton is an agent of Satan, and hearing only cheers from the floor.

They ventriloquise the fear of millions into a scream of fire in the crowded theatre of modernity where all the doors are locked, and then they watch the stampede, and they smile for the cameras.

You keep forgetting, I'm not pro-trump. But even if I was, it could be purely tactical way of being anti-Hillary. You don't have to believe in what he says to understand his usefulness as an alternative.

In any case, second, what I was trying to point out is that the system has left A LOT of people behind. And that it's Hillary's failure to address their suffering that's left that arena open for Donald to exploit.

Maybe you need to look to the DNC to figure out how it got itself in the position of losing the support of many disenfranchised.

"The labor participation rate has dropped under Obama, from 65.7 percent in 2009 to 62.7 percent, but experts say just over half of the post-1999 decline in the participation rate comes from the retirement of the baby boomers. Economists estimate that just 15 percent of the drop in the labor force stems from people who want a job and are of prime working age (25-54)."

Wait, am I to understand that if I retire because I can't find work, or if I'm between 55 and 65 and can't find a job, and I leave the labor force, I don't count? Especially when it's older workers who will have the most difficulties finding new work? It's crap like this that has people so disgusted with the same-old-same-old, second. But your misunderstanding is illuminating. I can see you're an unhinged fanatic for the cause. Trump can say anything his audience wants and they don't care if it is true or not. They want promises of violence: water boarding, killing Hillary, bombing Arabs. That is their Trump representing their inner passions.

Your mention of "uncontested coronation" is not happening. Johnson is predicted to get 8%.
http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-election-forecast/

Does Rudy Giuliani strike you as an extremist? Or can he be reasoned with?

There have been many occasions in many countries when the voters got what they wanted, but it didn't turnout as well as the voting majority imagined.

Do you remember the American Civil War? Lincoln had not yet been inaugurated, but South Carolinians could not tolerate Lincoln's election. They had demonized him with their talk of "He will take away our private property! He will destroy the very social fabric holding society together!" South Carolinians did not imagine their inner passions would cause so much damage in their state. If only Lincoln had just minded his own business and stayed in Illinois and left the reasonable and serene people of S Carolina to live life as they have always known it.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Civil_War#Outbreak_of_the_war

From the safety of 166 years later, I think we know South Carolinians were extremists. Perhaps in your state there is no doubt who started the Civil War and who was in the wrong, but not in Texas where Republicans see merit in the arguments of both sides of the Civil War.

Today's Republicans are especially concerned about the sanctity of their property. Did you know that slaves were property where Southerners stored their wealth? Kind of like owning real estate and government bonds today.

Today's Republicans are also very concerned about blacks, Mexicans, and Arabs running free and killing police and nightclub customers. In 1860 the concern was about Lincoln's freed slaves killing plantation owners and white women.

What’s happening to this country has happened before, in other nations, in other anxious, violent times when all the old certainties peeled away and maniacs took the wheel. It’s what happens when [Trump's] weaponised insincerity is applied to [Republicans'] structured ignorance. Donald Trump is the Gordon Gekko of the attention economy, but even he is no longer in control. This culture war is being run in bad faith by bad actors who are running way off-script, and it’s barely begun, and there are going to be a lot of refugees.

I can see you are under the impression that a properly run country owes everyone a job. Trump knows that about you and your kind. His campaign sales puffery is about him bringing jobs to America by the force of his personality.

Actual politicians have difficulty convincing taxpayers and voters that it is worth spending their money to create jobs for losers (of jobs). Hillary talks about spending trillions on infrastructure. That would create millions of jobs in great outdoors, but Hillary will have an impossible task of getting even $275 billion from a Republican controlled congress.

The Federal government never has felt that it was the employer of last resort, except when FDR was President. Not oddly, FDR was a Democrat. At that time the Republicans were utterly opposed to the Work Projects Administration. Not oddly, the Republican party hasn’t changed much since 1936 as far as creating jobs by building within the USA. There is another way to create jobs, but it requires war.

WWII over revved the economy, which Republicans completely approved of once they saw the benefits. Many fortunes were made from war spending and are still being made. That is second way of creating jobs – by destroying cities.

I’m not certain Americans want more spending on war to create jobs. Check the news, but I don’t think that changed.

I am not certain that millions of Americans want to work at government paid infrastructure jobs because it is outdoors in the heat and cold. Americans want to work in air-conditioned rooms.

I am absolutely certain Americans don’t want the government to just give money to the unemployed.

Americans hate the unemployed for weird reasons. The hateful majority of Americans limits what a truthful politician can promise to do for the unemployed. An untruthful politician can promise anything, ANYTHING, even to make America great again without spending any taxpayers’ money to do it.

Then there are Trump's tariffs to create jobs. Eventually citizens would see it for what it really is, just another way to tax them indirectly. Mr Untruthful Trump doesn’t talk about who is paying for his tariff schemes. He is assuming that tariffs won’t need to be paid because just announcing a tariff is more than enough to create millions of American factory jobs. Trump would be wrong about that.

Over the next decade, nearly 3.5 million manufacturing jobs will likely be needed, and 2 million are expected to go unfilled due to the skills gap. 80 percent of manufacturers report a moderate or serious shortage of qualified applicants for skilled and highly skilled production positions says the National Assoc. of Manuf. That limits how many jobs can be created, unless the Fed government pays to educate factory workers despite the objections of the Republicans about wasting taxpayers’ money on education.

Or you could vote in the Primary election for anyone but Boxer and Feinstein. Or put hundreds of bumper stickers on cars parked in shopping malls protesting Boxer and Feinstein. Or be Zoe and shoot to wound Boxer and Feinstein. Or Jayne and shoot to kill. You did watch Firefly, didn't you? It's your choice of how to protest against the democrats. But voting for Trump is not a protest against the Democratic Party. It is supporting Republicans. Voting for Green Party is not a protest against Democrats. It is the same as not voting.

SECOND, you've become totally unhinged. I hope you realize that. You're telling me that the ONLY "legitimate" choice is to vote "Democrat" in general elections?

But, yanno, the only real way to get Democrats (or Republicans, for that matter) to change is the real fear of not getting into office. The BEST protest is the one that puts real pressure on the political parties. And that is the one legal power we are given, as citizens, to express our legitimate desires for change. And as far as you're concerned, that is the one thing that any right-minded citizen shouldn't do.

Your fanaticism has been duly noted.

By the way, you keep asking if I really think Trump will do this or that, and my answer is "no". I have said, more than once, that he's a loose cannon. A VERY loose cannon. But I'm so disgusted by "more of the same" in terms of jobs and warfare and finance - which has led us to where we are today, and will lead us to even more dire situations in the future- that I'll vote for anyone who promises to be NOT "more of the same". Judging by the number of people who hate Trump, he's definitely not "more of the same".

If only it wasn't for those damn voters, looking for a candidate who at least says they'll represent them, Hillary could get her uncontested coronation! Right second?

Trump can say anything his audience wants and they don't care if it is true or not. They want promises of violence: water boarding, killing Hillary, bombing Arabs. That is their Trump representing their inner passions.

Your mention of "uncontested coronation" is not happening. Johnson is predicted to get 8%.

What does that have to do with anything, second? Hillary's main opposition isn't coming from Gary, it's coming from Donald. Meanwhile, Hillary is not supposed to be in this position, one of facing a very concerning challenge. How did that happen, second? What did the DNC and Hillary do wrong? What is Donald doing right? But you can't answer those questions second, because it would involve two things not in your thinking - that Hillary is doing something wrong, and that Donald is doing something right. Until you can get beyond your limited thinking, your only answer to reality is to pretend that no Donald supporter has a legitimate grievance that Donald addresses, and that no Hillary protester has a legitimate criticism of her.

From the safety of 166 years later, I think we know South Carolinians were extremists. Perhaps in your state there is no doubt who started the Civil War and who was in the wrong, but not in Texas where Republicans see merit in the arguments of both sides of the Civil War.

And many of the people who voted for Brexit were equally surprised and unsettled to find it had passed. But nothing has said at this point that it'll end up badly. No, we have to go into the future doing the best we can with what we know.

I keep coming back to that one mistake you're making as you drift away from reality, which is thinking that what people want doesn't count. That you can safely ignore the people indefinitely, even in a democracy. It's a blindness shared by Hillary and the DNC.

As I said earlier, Hillary could make A LOT of this go away by disavowing 'free' trade policies and her neo-CON war-mongering. And those SHOULD be no-brainer positions for a democrat, since democrats claim to be looking out for the little guy.

Where do I say that a properly run country owes everybody a job, second? Is that strawman argument the best you have to offer, second? Because strawman arguments are not only dishonest no matter where they're made, in this context yours is borderline crazy. So I'm not going to repeat myself that the 'let them eat cake' presentation in support of Hillary is dishonest, infuriating to those who've been so casually dismissed, and also destructive to Hillary (if you care about that). And I'm not going to make the case that historically, that attitude hasn't played well with the aggrieved masses. Nor am I going to point out that in a democracy, theoretically the people run the government which in turn helps run the society, and that if people aren't in society for mutual benefit there's no point in that society at all. And finally, I'm not going to repeat myself for the nth time that Hillary doing something as simple and common sense as disavowing those 'free' trade agreements could reassure a lot of people that she's prepared to at least not make their situation worse, even if she can't make it better,

No, I'm not going to make all those sane, common sense arguments about what Donald is doing right that Hillary could emulate.

And once again, you seem to think that the only option for creating jobs is massive public spending, and ignore the one simple, common sense thing Hillary could do - which didn't make it into the platform - which is to disavow those 'free' trade agreements. Why is that, second? And why can't you admit that Hillary has genuine, workable, choices in front of her, that could garner her a lot of support from the disenfranchised, choices that are both humane and common sense, choices that should be no-brainers - and that she and the DNC refuse to consider?

So, btw, I just want to make my point again that the only concessions Bernie's people were able to get in the platform were the ones that will never, ever, come to pass. Where the DNC really stuck to their guns, and stuck it to the people, was on 'free' trade agreements, and war-hawk foreign policy. GO DEMS!!!

Just announcing a tariff is a change in policy, second. Now either you think it'll be completely without effect, or that it'll have some effect. You're arguing both. Which is it?

Now that's an interesting set of unrelated claims. The only way to stitch them together is to make some assumptions, so let me make them overt. (1) Over the next decade (2) no one will seek to acquire those skills (3) on their own to get those jobs, and (4) the skills gap will remain exactly the same as now.

How likely is it all those assumptions come to pass?

You need a tag line, second. Since you're a globalist-Hillary supporter, I suggest 'let them eat cake' or perhaps '“Freedom (n.): To ask nothing. To expect nothing. To depend on nothing.'

You might want to explain this away, 1kiki. Your best gambit is to say Putin denies it; Hillary is a liar; there is no connection between a Russian autocrat and Republican autocrat running for President.

www.motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2016/07/are-donald-trump-and-vladimir-p
utin-really-bffs

Today brings one of the weirdest stories of any recent presidential campaign: Hillary Clinton's campaign has essentially accused Donald Trump of being a pawn of the Russians. Not in hints; not from an unaffiliated Super PAC; not in a deniable statement from an arms-length surrogate; and not in vague "doesn't put America first" terms. Friday's release of hacked emails from the Democratic National Committee, says Clinton's campaign manager, "was done by the Russians for the purpose of helping Donald Trump." And Trump intervened to change the Republican platform last week in a way that "some experts would regard as pro-Russian."

Believe it or not, though, that's not the weirdest part of this story. The weirdest part is (a) Clinton's campaign might be right, and (b) this is not really getting an awful lot of attention from the media.

Let that sink in: the Clinton campaign has explicitly accused the Russians of being on Team Trump and suggested that Trump might be on Team Russia. And although the media is covering it, it's not the top story anywhere. Seriously. WTF does it take these days to lead the news?

In a nutshell, here's the evidence. A few months ago, when the DNC's email was hacked, outside experts immediately said it looked like it had been done by the Russians. Here's the New York Times:

Researchers have concluded that the national committee was breached by two Russian intelligence agencies, which were the same attackers behind previous Russian cyberoperations at the White House, the State Department and the Joint Chiefs of Staff last year....Evidence so far suggests that the attack was the work of at least two separate agencies, each apparently working without the knowledge that the other was inside the Democrats’ computers.

....The experts cited by Mr. Mook include CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity firm that was brought into the Democratic National Committee when officials there suspected they had been hacked....Officials at several other firms that have examined the code for the malware used against the Democratic National Committee and the metadata of the stolen documents found evidence that the documents had been accessed by multiple computers, some with Russian language settings.

Eventually the email cache ended up in the hands of Wikileaks, which published it on Friday. "The release to WikiLeaks adds another strange element," says the Times, "because it suggests that the intelligence findings are being 'weaponized' — used to influence the election in some way." Other similar stories include this one from the Washington Post and this one from Defense One. Beyond that, Russian media has become conspicuously pro Trump over the past year.

So that's the evidence that Russia is backing Team Trump. But what about the evidence that Trump is on Team Russia? This is a little trickier, but it turns out Trump has an impressive number of pro-Russian views:

The Washington Post: Trump didn't bother much with the Republican platform, but on one topic he pulled out the heavy artillery: against the advice of virtually all conservative foreign policy analysts, he insisted on gutting a plank that said the US should provide weapons to Ukraine. Also: for many years, Trump's campaign chair, Paul Manafort, was a lobbyist for Viktor Yanukovych, the pro-Putin former president of Ukraine.
The New York Times: A few days ago, Trump told David Sanger and Maggie Haberman that he might not defend the Baltics if Russia invaded them. He also suggested that the US had little moral authority to condemn human rights abuses in other countries—a decidedly unusual view for someone running on an extreme nationalist platform.
The Wall Street Journal: Trump has also suggested that NATO should reorient itself from defending Europe against Russian aggression and instead place more emphasis on Middle Eastern terrorism.
Josh Marshall: "Trump's foreign policy advisor on Russia and Europe is Carter Page, a man whose entire professional career has revolved around investments in Russia and who has deep and continuing financial and employment ties to Gazprom."
Slate: Trump has teamed up with Russian investors frequently on projects, and for years has lavished a surprising amount of praise on Vladimir Putin.
The Washington Times: Trump has been unusually sanguine about Russia's intervention in Syria. "Let Russia fight ISIS, if they want to fight ‘em," Trump said last year. "Why do we care?"

Needless to say, there could be innocent explanations for all these things. Still, they add up to a suspiciously large number of positions that are not just pro-Russia, but unusually pro-Russia. Item #1 has no support among other conservatives, and items #2-6 have no real equal in either political party.

So what's going on? The evidence the Putin would like to install Donald Trump in the White House is pretty strong. The evidence that Trump would pursue Russia-friendly policies in return is much more circumstantial, but still pretty substantial. Manchurian candidate jokes aside, this is something that deserves a lot more coverage than whatever Trump happened to tweet last night.
