Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Did you know that an IQ of 90 is well within the normal range? The normal range's 100 plus or minus one standard deviation (a statistical term in case you don't understand the phrase), or +/- 15. If you wanted to imply that even stupid people are embarrassed by Trump, you'd have to go lower.

Just for you, 6StringJoker, I found another loyalty story, also today as was the first story. Since you're betting Trump will "help" you get work, it should concern you that he does not reciprocate loyalty to those who are loyal to him. I'm not sure how to classify that. Is Trump disloyal?, or does he misunderstand loyalty?, or is he nuts? or simply a bad manager? Whichever it is would explain the chaos that surrounds Trump when he deals with subordinates.

There is this storyline about Donald Trump, one longtime Trump watcher says, that he's a loyal guy. That he sticks with his old friends and defends them and supports them. "You have it all wrong," he says. "Trump is not loyal, except to his family. He can be solicitous and ingratiating. But if there's a moment you are not useful, forget it, you're done. No matter what you have done for him." Consider: Rudy Giuliani, Paul Manafort, Chris Christie.

And one more thing to keep in mind about the President, adds an ally. He's a disciple of Roy Cohn, the take-no-prisoners New York attorney. "When you're in trouble, you double down, triple down and quadruple down. At the end of the day," he says of Trump, "it's the only way to fight he knows."

It’s now little-remembered, but a signature moment of the Trump era came back on January 11 when, shortly before Inauguration Day, Trump tweeted that in his opinion, the American intelligence services were engaged in conduct similar to the Nazi Gestapo.

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump

Intelligence agencies should never have allowed this fake news to "leak" into the public. One last shot at me. Are we living in Nazi Germany?

This is the kind of thing where, if you’d run it by a halfway competent person, you’d have gotten the advice not to say it. For one thing, the comparison is deeply stupid. It’s also incredibly offensive to Holocaust victims. From a pragmatic standpoint, the even worse thing is that it’s incredibly offensive to the professional staff of the American intelligence community, a group that you normally don’t alienate for no reason whatsoever.

It’s also a bit of a Streisand effect situation, where the president-elect’s decision to go nuclear over the story draws more attention to it.

This has been Trump time after time, day after day since taking office. Whether it’s churlish refusing to reiterate America’s commitment to Article 5 of NATO after Trump’s own staff briefed American media that he would do so, or firing FBI Director James Comey on a thin pretext that he contradicted days later in an interview with NBC News’s Lester Holt, Trump has been impulsive and self-destructive.

Trump’s existing team is fully competent to warn him off this behavior. The problem is Trump doesn’t want to listen.

Has anyone told Trump that he is responsible for running the government? There was no question that Obama was running the government, for better or worse.

On Monday, Trump tweeted something strangely irresponsible: The Justice Dept. should have stayed with the original Travel Ban, not the watered down, politically correct version they submitted to the Supreme Court.
https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/871675245043888128

You would think, reading this missive, that Trump was still a candidate for president, or a New York billionaire raging against the Obama administration. There is a powerlessness in his formulation, an impotent anger at the distant, impersonal bureaucracy he’s criticizing.

But “the Justice Dept.” is really Trump’s Justice Department. It is run by a man Trump handpicked to lead it. The revised travel ban — which was an effort to save Trump’s policy from total defeat before the Supreme Court — was crafted with the input of the White House, and only released after Trump’s top advisers cleared it.

All of which makes Trump’s tweet a very peculiar artifact. If Trump didn’t want the revised travel ban released, why was it released? Isn’t he the boss? Is he going to fire Attorney General Jeff Sessions? Or ask Sessions to fire someone else? And what kind of leader acts like this, litigating frustrations in public and dodging responsibility for the actions of the organization he runs?

Trump sees ‘the Trump administration’ as himself, his Twitter account, Jared and Ivanka, and a few close staffers at the White House. He thinks of everyone else as ‘the government’: some force that does not answer to him, and that he does not manage in a conventional sense.

This was predictable. Trump was never the omnicompetent CEO he played on television. His core business was licensing his name out to other people who actually ran businesses. He’s a genius marketer, not a genius manager. The “Trump” brand appeared on steaks, on vodka, on eyeglasses, on lamps, and on fragrances, to name just a few. But he didn’t run those companies or manage the people who did. He didn’t take responsibility for those products or those teams. Why did Trump not take responsibility?

Trump was so successful as a marketer in part because he was unusually disinterested in the companies he endorsed. One reason athletes and celebrities don’t sell their brands more widely is it’s hard to exert quality control over too many products. Trump didn’t care about the quality of the products he backed, and that let him cash a check from many, many more of them.

Among the many problems with Trump’s presidency is he appears to be treating it much as he treated his branding empire. He runs his White House, and feels responsibility for certain decisions he makes personally — like pulling out of the Paris agreement, or sending cruise missiles to Syria. But the further a decision gets from his core interests and nearby staffers, the less responsibility he feels for it.

This is the difference between a CEO and a brand licenser. Trump doesn’t look at the Justice Department and see Trump’s Justice Department. He looks at the Justice Department and sees the Trump-branded Justice Department — his name is in the lobby, but no one could fairly hold him accountable for everything that happens in the building.

If this doesn’t sound like the way good chief executives run their organizations, it’s because it’s not. It has long been a trope in American politics that the government needs to be run more like a business, but no board of directors would allow a business to be run like this.

Another story about Trump using the White House to increase his family's wealth:

The Trump Organization announced on Monday that it is moving into the budget hotel business — capitalizing on Donald Trump’s popularity in Middle America.
www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/6/6/15745442/trump-american-idea-
hotel

The organization plans to launch the chain of hotels in small towns around the country, the kinds of places Trump visited during his campaign stops, according to the New York Times. This new venture takes its cues from the president’s “America First” theme — and the hotels will be decorated with patriotic flair and feature American-made products. The organization plans to launch this experiment in Mississippi, a state that turned out heavily for Trump during the election, with a Trump campaign donor.

The new venture is a reflection of how the Trump family has approached the presidency: as a way to profit from Trump’s politics. The organization has already come under scrutiny after foreign diplomats booked rooms in the Trump International Hotel in Washington, DC, around inauguration (Trump said he would donate the profits, but as of mid-March, there was no evidence he had done so) — and Trump tends to spend his time golfing at clubs he owns, meaning the Secret Service needs to funnel money directly into the president’s pocket in order to protect him.

Trump isn’t failing. He and his family appear to be making money hand over fist. It's a spectacle the likes of which we've never seen in the United States, and while it may end in disaster for the Trumps someday, for now it shows no real sign of failure.

Now it seems the Trump Organization is trying to make money from the last places in the country where the president remains overwhelmingly popular: rural, working-class America. It’s an unusual project for the Trump Organization, which until now has focused exclusively on luxury properties and hotels, many of them abroad. But right now that brand is taking a hit due to controversies over the president’s policies and conduct.

The project raises yet more ethical issues for a president whose young administration has shown general disregard for potential conflicts of interest. Trump refused to divest from his business interests when elected (his sons are now in charge of running the Trump Organization), and will profit from any new business opportunities involving the Trump Organization.

Because Trump still earns money from his business — and hasn’t released his tax returns — it’s impossible to guarantee that the president is not motivated in his policy decisions by a desire to enrich himself and his family.

Capitalizing on his campaign and presidency to launch a new hotel chain does not mean that Trump is doing anything illegal. But ethics experts have been pushing Trump to completely separate himself from his businesses to eliminate the appearance of impropriety. The director of the US Office of Government Ethics, Walter Shaub, has repeatedly urged Trump to sell his assets and put them in a blind trust:

"We can’t risk creating the perception that government leaders would use their official positions for profit. That’s why I was glad in November when the president-elect tweeted that he wanted to, as he put it, “in no way have a conflict of interest” with his businesses. Unfortunately, his current plan cannot achieve that goal."

For worse.

Not even 6 months into Trump's candidacy and we've got a list of 120 signatures of high ranking Muslim officials coming out and condemning the 3 recent Terrorist attacks in the UK.

That didn't happen once in 8 years when Obama and the Globalists had free rein of the US and the EU. Obama wouldn't even use the words Terrorism and Islam in the same sentence and preferred to use terms like "workplace violence". Hillary called anybody who had a problem with Islamic Terror attacks an Islamophobe.

You're missing the point entirely. When Muslim leaders come out and condemn these attacks and these people start being shamed for the monsters they are instead of being regarded as heroes then the attacks will stop and you won't see idiots picking up guns and randomly killing brown people. It's about damn time we're calling them out, and it's sure as hell time that the Muslim community is speaking out against these random acts of violence.

Seems to me the point is I am learning a lot about you, but not so much about how to wisely govern in a crisis.

I can see how this article would help, after the fact of a terror attack:
http://metro.co.uk/2017/05/23/muslims-unite-to-condemn-ariana-grande-m
anchester-terror-attack-6655366
/
It is about sympathy for the victims and offers of help from Muslims.

But when Trump opens his mouth, he puts his foot in it. Video starts at 44 seconds:
Trump Wants To Kill Muslims With Pig Blood

Donald Trump recently regaled a crowd of supporters with a fake story of General John J. Pershing. Trump said he coated 50 bullets in pig blood and killed 49 muslim terrorists. A comment from yesterday: “absolutely correct, sane ,rational way to eliminate Islamic terrorism ." How you see that comment all depends on how sane you are. Trump would have approved.

Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback’s signature tax reform closely mirrors the tax plan that President Donald Trump is trying to get through Congress. In fact, they were designed by the same supply-side economists.

Republican lawmakers in Kansas put an end to the state’s failed tax-reform experiment on Tuesday, overriding the governor’s veto after three attempts to pass a tax-hiking bill this year.

The new law raises income and business taxes closer to pre-reform levels — a move Republicans had been resisting for years. But pressure had been mounting to do something. The drastic tax cuts enacted five years ago left the state in a fiscal mess, unable to balance its budget and properly fund its public schools.

Kansas’s five year long tax experiment provides many clues about what could happen if Congress goes along with Trump’s vision for tax reform.

Read the letter Democratic lawmakers sent to Trump

“We believe it is crucial for you — as the President of the United States — to raise this matter with President Putin and to ensure that he hears you loud and clear — interfering in our elections was wrong in 2016 and it will not be permitted to happen again,” wrote the group, which also included Sens. “President Putin must understand this can never happen again,” they said. "Not raising this matter with President Putin would be a severe dereliction of the duty of the office to which you were elected."

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - President Donald Trump finds some of his strongest support in Alabama, but his public flogging of Attorney General Jeff Sessions is dismaying Republicans who consider the conservative stalwart a home state hero.

Trump's near-daily Twitter humiliation of Sessions, an apparent effort to force him to quit, is putting party members in awkward positions. Only weeks remain before a special primary election for the U.S. Senate seat Sessions vacated to become the nation's top law enforcer. A shareholder who bought $100 of Trump Casino Hotels & Resorts shares in 1995 could sell them for about $4 in 2005. The same investment in MGM Resorts would have increased in value to about $600. But it did make lots of money for Donald Trump. It spent more than $6 million on entertaining high-end clients on Trump’s golf courses. It spent $2 million more on renting Trump’s plane. It bought $1.7 million of Trump-branded merchandise. It bought a bankrupt casino from Donald Trump for $490 million. It paid Trump millions in salary for his work as CEO. And most lucratively of all, Trump was able to offload debts he had personally guaranteed onto the publicly traded company.

From there, Trump hopped to starring in a reality television programming and then into a lucrative celebrity brand licensing business. He also launched a fake university that had to pay out $25 million to settle fraud claims.

Anthony Scaramucci is — I mean, was — US president Donald Trump’s bombastic, foulmouthed communications director. Today, Trump fired Scaramucci, nicknamed “the Mooch,” just 10 days after he was hired. Somebody is nuts. Is it Trump? The Mooch?

Meanwhile, there’s Euron Greyjoy:

Mr. Greyjoy is a bombastic, foul-mouthed new character on HBO’s hit fantasy series Game of Thrones. Some fans of the show have described him as the show’s version of the Mooch—or, rather, Mooch as reality’s version of Euron Greyjoy.

The character’s arc so far closely resembles Scaramucci’s swift rise in politics. Having appeared seemingly out of nowhere at the end of the prior season, Euron has skyrocketed to a prominent role this season as a close ally (and possible future lover) to the flaxen-haired Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, Cersei Lannister. Along the way, he’s made a name for himself as a crude and sadistic man who takes pleasure in the deaths of his political enemies.

Virtually all of Euron’s lines on the show are reminiscent of Scaramucci’s rant to the New Yorker. But, unlike the Mooch, Euron has not yet met his end. If Euron continues to follow the Mooch’s trajectory, however, he will likely be the next character to fall on a show that enjoys killing off its main characters.

Indeed, the only TV show that kills off more major players than Game of Thrones is, of course, the reality show known as the Trump White House. The TV veteran Trump has eliminated literally dozens of advisors and staffers—most recently chief of staff Reince Priebus and press secretary Sean Spicer.

Neither Scaramucci nor Greyjoy could be reached for comment.

"There’s nothing more to be learned about Trump’s mixture of ignorance, insecurity and narcissism. Every second spent on his bluster is more degrading than informative."

-- David Brooks, Famed Conservative-Politics Writer, is burned out by Trump, August 8, 2017

It is no exaggeration to say that Mr. Brooks spent every hour of his professional career boosting Republicans and Conservatism, mocking Democrats and Liberals, and relentlessly positioning himself as America's Most Ubiquitous Conservative Public Intellectual. And yet, in 2017 during the Republican Party's Year of Jubilee -- the year when Mr. Brooks' Republican Party owned every branch of the federal government and Mr. Brooks' Conservative Movement had effectively conquered the media both through direct propaganda efforts (Fox News/Hate Radio/etc.) and by bludgeoning the "mainstream media" into a state of meek complicity -- Mr. Brooks announced that he was suddenly sick and tired writing about Conservatism or politics.

These are David Brook's final words to us: "One way or another I'm gonna wash that man [Trump] right outta what's left of my hair."

Thanks, David. Don’t worry about anything, we’ll clean up the mess.

“With the exception of the president, every link in the U.S. nuclear decision chain has protections against poor judgments, deliberate misuse or accidental deployment. The two-person rule, in place since World War II, requires that the actual order to launch be sent to two separate people. Each one has to decode and authenticate the message before taking action. In addition, anyone with nuclear weapons duties, in any branch of service, must routinely pass a Pentagon-mandated evaluation called the Personnel Reliability Program—a battery of tests that assess several areas, including mental fitness, financial history, and physical and emotional well-being.

There is no comparable restraint on the president. He or she can decide to trigger a thermonuclear Armageddon without consulting anyone at all and never has to demonstrate mental fitness.”

Scientific American explains why no one should have sole authority to launch a nuclear attack.

o-launch-a-nuclear-attack

In just five minutes an American president could put all of humanity in jeopardy. Most nuclear security experts believe that's how long it would take for as many as 400 land-based nuclear weapons in the U.S. arsenal to be loosed on enemy targets after an initial “go” order. Ten minutes later a battalion of underwater nukes could join them.

That unbridled power is a frightening prospect no matter who is president. Donald Trump, the current occupant of the Oval Office, highlights this point. He said he aspires to be “unpredictable” in how he might use nuclear weapons.

Meanwhile, Trump wondered aloud whether his fire and fury comments might not have been tough enough: “North Korea better get their act together or they are going to be in trouble like few nations have ever been in trouble … Things will happen to them like they never thought possible, OK?”

Nice fantasy, but I would not believe that.

Max Boot, a lifelong conservative who advised three Republican Presidential candidates on foreign policy, keeps a folder labelled “Trump Stupidity File” on his computer. It’s next to his “Trump Lies” file. “Not sure which is larger at this point,” he told me this week. “It’s neck-and-neck.”

Six months into the Trump era, foreign-policy officials from eight past Administrations told me they are aghast that the President is still so witless about the world. “He seems as clueless today as he was on January 20th,” Boot, who is now a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, said. Trump’s painful public gaffes, they warn, indicate that he’s not reading, retaining, or listening to his Presidential briefings. And the newbie excuse no longer flies.

“Trump has an appalling ignorance of the current world, of history, of previous American engagement, of what former Presidents thought and did,” Geoffrey Kemp, who worked at the Pentagon during the Ford Administration and at the National Security Council during the Reagan Administration, reflected. “He has an almost studious rejection of the type of in-depth knowledge that virtually all of his predecessors eventually gained or had views on.”

Criticism of Donald Trump among Democrats who served in senior national-security positions is predictable and rife. But Republicans—who are historically ambitious on foreign policy—are particularly pained by the President’s missteps and misstatements. So are former senior intelligence officials who have avoided publicly criticizing Presidents until now.

“The President has little understanding of the context”—of what’s happening in the world—“and even less interest in hearing the people who want to deliver it,” Michael Hayden, a retired four-star general and former director of both the C.I.A. and the National Security Agency, told me. “He’s impatient, decision-oriented, and prone to action. It’s all about the present tense. When he asks, ‘What the hell’s going on in Iraq?’ people around him have learned not to say, ‘Well, in 632 . . . ’ ” (That was the year when the Prophet Muhammad died, prompting the beginning of the Sunni-Shiite split.*)

“He just doesn’t have an interest in the world,” Hayden said.

How Trump’s paranoid White House sees ‘deep state’ enemies on all sides

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/aug/13/donald-trump-white-house-steve
-bannon-rich-higgins

An extraordinary memo by a former national security official contains a list of Donald Trump’s perceived enemies within, offering an insight into paranoia gripping the White House.

The author, Rich Higgins, was ousted last month by the national security adviser, HR McMaster (who is not paranoid). But the president reportedly saw the memo when it was passed to him by his son, Donald Trump Jr, and was said to be “furious” at Higgins’s forced departure.

Entitled POTUS & Political Warfare and written in florid pseudo-intellectual language, the memo illustrates the siege mentality that fuels Trump, his chief strategist, Steve Bannon, and the “alt-right” in their endless running battles with the media, the so-called “deep state” and others.

The seven-page document – leaked to Foreign Policy magazine – claims the Trump administration is suffering under “withering information campaigns designed to first undermine, then delegitimize and ultimately remove the president”.

It continues: “Recognizing in candidate Trump an existential threat to cultural Marxist memes that dominate the prevailing cultural narrative, those that benefit recognize the threat he poses and seek his destruction.”

Writing in May this year, Higgins, who was in the strategic planning office at the National Security Council, goes on to identify seven groups that he claims are part of a huge conspiracy to bring the president down.

First is the mainstream media, which he describes as “the principle [sic] mechanism for implementing narratives”. Trump frequently attacks CNN, the New York Times and Washington Post and has described the media as the “enemy of the American people”, while Bannon has called it the “opposition party”. White House press briefings have frequently involved acrimonious clashes with the CNN reporter Jim Acosta, among others. Yet Trump evidently continues to crave media attention.

Second, there is “the academy”, which Higgins argues is “a key conduit for creating future adherents to cultural Marxist narratives”. Perceived foes here would presumably range from climate scientists to liberal academics to university campuses that ban offensive speech.

Third on the list is the “deep state”. With his flair for pretentious verbosity, Higgins claims that with no considerations other than furthering its own power, “the deep state truly becomes, as Hegel advocated, god [sic] bestriding the earth”. Pro-Trump media such as Breitbart have frequently railed against intelligence agencies for leaking against the president. On Thursday, the president said he did not have confidence in the former CIA director John Brennan, adding: “I shouldn’t maybe say that, but I will say it.”

. . .

Higgins’s memo, full of academic jargon and numerous references to Marxism, concludes that the “defense of President Trump is the defense of America” and compares him to Abraham Lincoln, although the hyper-suspicious Richard Nixon might be more accurate.

The memo produced a combination of amusement and fear among analysts. Ken Gude, a senior fellow on the national security team at the Center for American Progress thinktank in Washington, said: “It’s the craziest thing I’ve seen come out of the National Security Council staff, that’s for sure. It’s the bizarre ramblings of a conspiracy theorist. It’s unhinged.”

Gude noted that the list of Trump’s foes “could be read to describe just about everybody except for loyalists. It’s quite alarming to think this is how people close to the president view the world and view the country.”

A month before Trump was inaugurated, Mother Jones looked at Trump’s many public remarks about nuclear war and noted that he’s often spoken as if he thinks nuclear war is inevitable. Here’s Trump in a 1990 Playboy interview:

I’ve always thought about the issue of nuclear war; it’s a very important element in my thought process. It’s the ultimate, the ultimate catastrophe, the biggest problem this world has, and nobody’s focusing on the nuts and bolts of it. It’s a little like sickness. People don’t believe they’re going to get sick until they do. Nobody wants to talk about it. I believe the greatest of all stupidities is people’s believing it will never happen, because everybody knows how destructive it will be, so nobody uses weapons. What bullshit.

This is a frightening thing to hear (Trump has admitted, “Look, I’m very much a fatalist”), but as the New York Daily News reports, over the years, he has actually laid out what he believes is the path to our salvation. Unsurprisingly, it involves Trump single-handedly saving humanity with his superior negotiation skills. Here’s an excerpt from a 1984 New York Times profile, in which a young Trump once again raised concerns about a nuclear holocaust:

His greatest dream is to personally do something about the problem and, characteristically, Donald Trump thinks he has an answer to nuclear armament: Let him negotiate arms agreements — he who can talk people into selling $100 million properties to him for $13 million. Negotiations is an art, he says and I have a gift for it.

Later that year, a Washington Post piece noted that Trump hoped to “perhaps one day fulfill his fantasy of becoming the U.S. negotiator on nuclear arms limitation talks with the Soviets.”

“It’s something that somebody should do that knows how to negotiate and not the kind of representatives that I have seen in the past.”

He could learn about missiles, quickly, he says.

“It would take an hour-and-a-half to learn everything there is to learn about missiles … I think I know most of it anyway. You’re talking about just getting updated on a situation …”

And despite access to the world’s top nuclear experts, the New York Times reported that Trump’s improvised threat to Kim Jong-un last week was the result of his belief that he alone understands how to deal with the dictator:

The president, people close to him say, believes he has a better feel for Mr. Kim than his advisers do. He thinks of Mr. Kim as someone used to pushing people around, and Mr. Trump thinks he needs to show that he cannot be pushed.

Joseph Cirincione, president of the Ploughshares Fund, an anti-nuclear-proliferation initiative, said Trump’s comparisons to the business world don’t make sense and that Trump’s view of nuclear weapons is deeply troubling.

“He doesn’t understand their role in our security policy. What he’s saying? He argues purely from a good gut instinct. Is that the way you make nuclear policy?”

Under President Trump, apparently the answer is yes.

The America First president just announced he's escalating the Afghanistan war.

And Trump's Afghanistan plan looks a lot like Obama's, with one major exception and one minor.

When Obama ordered reinforcements to Afghanistan in 2009, he said they’d start to be withdrawn within 18 months — a fixed deadline that infuriated critics from both parties. Trump, by contrast, repeatedly stressed in his Monday night address that there was no timetable for how long American troops would remain in Afghanistan. That effectively means the longest war in American history will extend into the indefinite future.

“Conditions on the ground -- not arbitrary timetables -- will guide our strategy from now on,” Trump said. Trump brings out his famous deal-making skills:

"In this struggle, the heaviest burden will continue to be borne by the good people of Afghanistan and their courageous armed forces. As the prime minister of Afghanistan has promised, we are going to participate in economic development to help defray the cost of this war to us."

That zipped by mighty quickly, didn’t it? Let’s rewind and pause a bit. What exactly does Trump mean? What does he plan to extract from Afghanistan to help “defray” the cost of the war? From the wiki that extract would be Afghan handwoven rugs and hand crafted antique replicas as well as leather and furs. The wiki notes that GNP data excludes opium production.

That is hilarious.

There's only 3 possible outcomes of this.

1. He goes blind and everyone has to admit to Second that he was right and Trump is stupid.

2. He was wearing some sort of special contacts from new tech that were made just for him, and looking at the sun and knowing what a media rage it would create in the aftermath was just another big fuck you to the MSM.

3. The eclipse making you go blind is just an old wives tale and the same people that tell new presidents all about Area 51 let him know about this too.

I seriously doubt he goes blind.

Anybody have their own speculations here?

P.S. I have to apologize to Brenda for saying "Video, or it didn't happen". I can't prove that these pics were actually from the eclipse, but Miliana is wearing pretty dark shades. I'll play.

He is blind to what happens around him. I seriously doubt Trump will be winning Afghanistan and there are thousands of days of video showing losing.

As a candidate, Trump argued for a more isolationist approach to foreign policy.

Recent foreign wars, he told his supporters, had drained America of blood and treasure at the expense of efforts such as education and infrastructure at home.

“So we’re on track now to spend, listen to this, $6 trillion — could have rebuilt our country twice — all together, on wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the Middle East,” Trump said during a speech in Cleveland during the campaign. “ Meanwhile, massive portions of our country are in a state of total disrepair.”

This Thanksgiving, It's Grim in Trump's Swamp

If you're associated with the administration of President Donald Trump, there's not much to be thankful for this week. With the exception of Defense Secretary James Mattis, no insider has elevated his or her standing in 10 months and no superstar has emerged as in previous administrations.

Already, Trump’s chief of staff, national security adviser, press secretary, communications chief and Health and Human Services secretary are out, none leaving with dignity intact. His former campaign manager and a deputy have been indicted along with a campaign foreign-policy adviser. Michael Flynn, the shelved national security adviser, is in the crosshairs of the special counsel investigating Trump’s links with Russia, Robert Mueller.

I don't see what the problem was with him saying what he did here. He didn't sound like it was said in an insulting manner and Pocohontas was well thought of enough to be put on a US dollar coin for a time and have a Disney movie made of her.

Anybody remember Trump saying “They will be met with fire, fury, and, frankly, power, the likes of which the world has never seen.” North Korea launched another missile, today, and Trump made another threat. I suspect Trump has got something planned and North Korea almost certainly has plans on firing missiles during the Olympics in South Korea. Trump could start a war during the Olympics, which begin Friday, Feb 9 and end on Sunday, Feb 25. It might be the most intense Winter Games of all times, thanks to Trump, if he pulls the trigger on N Korea's missile program to get maximum TV coverage.
