If you put a bunch of these free choice people who refuse to wear a mask and get vaccinated in a room, how many would say they believe in freedom of choice when it comes to abortion? That government should not pass laws taking away people’s right to choose? Do they wear seatbelts, or drive without licenses? Do they even fish without a license?

Do they stop at red lights? Do they teach their children to step out into traffic when the flashing red lights say not to because the government has no right to tell them they cannot?

It is also their right to be stupid and selfish. They need to take a break, calm down and look into a mirror if they dare. If they do the mirror will show them the only person on this earth they care about.

Fuck you, Ted.

If you got a vaccine, what the fuck are you worried about, idiot?

Either it works and you're fine, or it doesn't work and I don't need it. Period.

How are you so stupid?

Jeez. SIX, did you notice that KEY PHRASE that you, yourself, posted??

Strictly speaking, the Constitution limits what the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT can do. It can't even limits what STATES do (*all other powers not enumerate belong to the states*) and the only reason why you have civil rights in your STATE is bc state constitutions are pretty much based on the FEDERAL Constitution.

So, unless you can show that the Federal (or state) governments are requiring businesses to do X,Y, and Z, there is no "Constitutional" crisis.

What we have here in the USA is a classic example of FASCISM. Not the "fascism" that TWITCHY hyperventilated about so often (and mistakenly) but real, actual fascism:

Where the government runs in service to business, and businesses have all the power.

So we see that businesses can search your stuff, invade your home, hijack your communications hardware and software, stifle your free speech, discriminate on the basis of race, hold your savings hostage, and do all of the things that the Federal government CAN'T do.

If there is a "Constititional crisis" it won't be because the these activities are found "unconstitutional" but because people will feel that the Constitution itself is deficient and dosn't protect them from big business.

One BIG step would be to get rid of that "corporations are people, too" interpretation.

Does withholding funds and tax breaks count as "requiring" them to do so? If that doesn't fit your definition, maybe you need to change your definition. They do that ALL THE TIME WITH EVERYTHING.

And turning down any free money in a world of predatory Capitalism and the almighty bottom line is like whacking your own kneecaps with a baseball bat while a pack of hyenas are hot on your tail.

Strictly speaking, NO "Constitutional crisis".

What I refer to - a broadly popular movement to reform the entire Constitution - would be more like a revolt. Calling that a "constitutiona crisis" would be like calling the Civil War a "constitutional crisis".

But frankly, I don't see it getting to that point. There were widespread heavily-attended demonstrations across France about mandatory "passports". Americans can't be bothered.

What I see are (some) states diverging from Federal policy on Covid-19 and border protection. Unfortunately, not on Treasury/Fed money-printing or foreign policy or economic policy.

You don't consider bastardizing and otherwise intentionally misinterpreting the Constitution a Constitutional Crisis?

I'm in disagreement of what your definition of a Constitutional Crisis is.

Because if it doesn't protect people from this, then it's a worthless piece of paper.

And in 2021, that's a crisis.

The "Constitutional Crisis" happened 3 decades ago, with mass drug testing. Just because you didn't understand that point when I first made it doesn't make it untrue.

Since then, we've had a series of Supreme Court rulings that have gradually ruled in favor of so-called 'originalist' 'thinking' ie what they presume the 'framers'

originally meant. And that's been interpreted to mean that your Constitutional rights only apply in regard to what the Federal Government does to you directly. Everything else by anyone else, even the state, is fair game. And now, far down the road as a result of that 3-decade trend, even corporations are people, too, and you can't trample on their rights.

I understand what you do not.

And while some people may be in angst over the situation, legally speaking, the crisis was settled when you were a kid.

I have a history of coming about against drug testing for jobs right on this website, dummy. This is hardly new news.

My point is that you're more than eager to roll over now because you happen to agree with this one.

But just do what the government does and push the responsibility off on the corporations.

Guilt them.

Guilting him to guilt them.

Here's the steps, if you missed me talk about them before.

STEP 1: Give the vaccine to the 50 to 60% of people who are terrified of the virus and would do anything to get it.

STEP 2: Give the vaccine to the 15 to 20% of people who are just so f-ing tired of how we've been forced to live the last year that they just want it to go away and will get vaccinated so they can get back to their old lives.

(Steps one and two will have quite a bit of overlap, both in the timeframe and/or like-mindedness.)

STEP 3: Guilt the shit of the remaining people. Not all of them will be guilted into it. But some of them will.

STEP 4: Ruin the lives of people who still refuse. This can be done, and will be done, in a variety of ways. (This can only begin once there is a legitimate surplus of vaccinations without any remaining demand for them).

One of the biggest will be by allowing corporations to force vaccinations otherwise face termination from your job (the article from South Carolina I posted earlier today is actually about a bill being considered in the state to PROHIBIT companies in the state from doing this).

But then there's just the general guilting that will never end until the media stops talking about it. If you haven't been paying attention to the way these things work online the last few years, that guilting will quickly turn to HATE. This is going to make for a very hostile work environment for many people at this point. Imagine the RWED, but in a live office setting... in every workplace around the country. (and with weak-minded, terrified people truly believing that somebody like me is threatening their life by my mere presence in front of them without having had the shots).

If they really want to make the issue bad, they'll start instituting an ID card... maybe even provide you with a handy little lanyard to wear it like a dog collar whenever you leave your home.

Worst case is that when enough people have already gotten it and the rest refuse that the Legacy Media starts referring to those who resist vaccination as Bio Terrorists.

I've pretty much been spot on for the first three steps.

Admittedly, I didn't see handing out a bunch of freebies and doing Lotteries to try to entice people before moving on to Step 4 though.

But we are clearly in Step 3.5 right now, and just as I predicted they're throwing away TONS of vaccines since nobody else wants one.

Is New Zealand is racing to prove me right on the predictions past Step 4 already?

Anybody else going to join the race?

Yup.

I'd say that the weakest of us here in the States are firmly planting their feet into STEP 4.

When the news broke, I did what any desk jockey would do: I turned to Facebook to complain.

?‘People who have been vaccinated are protected against serious illness and death,’ I wrote. ‘The vaccines are free and have widely been available since April. Asking vaccinated Americans to mask is meaningless theater and isn’t saving anyone’s life, vaccinated or unvaccinated. Masking and further lockdowns (which are coming to some places) are nonsense. This is not “Trumpian” and it is not COVID denial. I am a liberal and I am tired of COVID panic. I will not comply with any of this.”’

?Maybe that was a little histrionic, but it’s Facebook, after all. If you can’t bloviate like an old man at a bar there, where else can you? My feed erupted with rage heretofore unseen, as though I’d confessed to smothering people’s children in their sleep. The responses ranged from the rather mild ?‘you’re wrong’ and ?‘I disagree with you’, to full-scale CDC propaganda, to medical hearsay that I ignored, to far worse.

‘You got the vaccine to keep from dying,’ someone wrote, later accusing me of ?‘white, male, able-bodied privilege’. ?‘Wear the mask to keep from killing.’

?But, I said. I’m not sick. I’m not killing anyone.

A former neighbor and semi-prominent Austin media personality informed me he was reporting me to Facebook for ??‘misinformation’ and spent a half-hour hassling me to see if my wife shares my ??‘crackpot ideas’. He called me a ??‘big brave online man’ who was ??‘trying to get on Joe Rogan’. I wish! Maybe I’d finally sell some damn books.

Quote:

Since my dumb little Facebook post, I’ve received several hushed, whispered messages from people ‘like me’ who agree but said they are afraid to speak out because someone will report them. But they shouldn’t be afraid.

There has to be room for those who are slightly left-of-center to criticize COVID policy. I don’t want to make anyone sick. I just want consistent guidance and the ability to live freely and make my own choices. Somewhere along the line, liberals forgot that was something to value.

What does the right mean when it talks about “freedom”? Since the pandemic began, many conservatives have insisted that actions to limit the death toll — social distancing, wearing a mask and now getting vaccinated — should be matters of personal choice. Does that position make any sense?

Well, driving drunk is also a personal choice. But almost everyone understands that it’s a personal choice that endangers others; 97 percent of the public considers driving while impaired by alcohol a serious problem. Why don’t we have the same kind of unanimity on refusing to get vaccinated, a choice that helps perpetuate the pandemic and puts others at risk?

True, many people doubt the science; the link between vaccine refusal and Covid deaths is every bit as real as the link between D.U.I. and traffic deaths, but is less obvious to the naked eye. But why are people on the right so receptive to misinformation on this subject, and so angry about efforts to set the record straight?

My answer is that when people on the right talk about “freedom” what they actually mean is the right of certain people (generally white male Christians) to do whatever they want.

Not incidentally, if you go back to the roots of modern conservatism, you find people like Barry Goldwater defending the right of businesses to discriminate against Black Americans. In the name of freedom, of course. A lot, though not all, of the recent panic about “cancel culture” is about protecting the right of powerful men to mistreat women. And so on.

Once you understand that the rhetoric of freedom is actually about privileged white people, things that look on the surface like gross inconsistency and hypocrisy start to make sense.

Why, for example, are conservatives so insistent on the right of businesses to make their own decisions, free from regulation — but quick to stop them from denying service to customers who refuse to wear masks or show proof of vaccination? Why is the autonomy of local school districts a fundamental principle — unless they want to require masks or teach America’s racial history? It’s all about whose privilege is being protected.

The reality of what the right means by freedom also, I think, explains the special rage induced by rules that impose some slight inconvenience in the name of the public interest — like the detergent wars of a few years back. After all, only poor people and minority groups are supposed to be asked to make sacrifices.

Anyway, as you watch Republican governors invoke “freedom” to escape responsibility for their Covid catastrophes, remember, when they say it, that word does not mean what you think it means.

The same problem showed up after the Civil War. The slave-owners or wannabe owners who started the war claimed they didn't start it. They claimed their rights were violated, their property, slaves, stolen. The President of Confederacy wrote a multi-volume history about how he was right and Lincoln was wrong and that ex-slaves were happier as slaves. Every word coming out of the ex-Confederate states was nonsense and bullshit. Every word coming out of Trumptards' computers is nonsense and bullshit. So many years between the Civil War ending and Trump losing, but crazy, stupid losers never change.

You want it loud and clear?

For the record, IN THIS CASE I'm against mandatory vaccinations because

1) The vaccinations don't do enough to stop transmission but
2) They do a pretty good job of protecting the vulnerable against death

If anything in that calculation were to change, I might change my opinion depending on what other options were available. Yanno, one air pollution district had a "thou shalt not" rule. It was pretty generic. Business was not supposed to disturn the health, repose etc of a community. You'd be all for that, I'm sure. But when it comes to YOUR responsibility not to put people at risk, well, you seem to take that pretty lightly and you seem to want others to ignore it altogther.

But I agree with Signy.

I disagree that corporations and other legal fictitious entities are people.

And I abhor that private and state entities can ignore or remove our Constitutional protections.

But in addition, I agree with mask mandates, yes, even by businesses and employers. It's a long-standing right of property owners. It violates no Constitutional protection. And if you're in their place, it's at their invitation, and on their terms. It's the old 'no shirt, no shoes, no service' mantra.

Furthermore, SHOULD it become necessary to mandate vaccinations, I think it SHOULD come from the federal government.

The head of Florida’s largest hospital association warned that the skyrocketing number of Covid hospitalizations is unlike anything the state has seen before — even as Gov. Ron DeSantis downplays the spike.

The Florida Hospital Association on Monday reported 10,389 Covid-19 hospitalizations, the most statewide during any point in the pandemic. This follows Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reporting over the weekend that the state had more than 21,000 new coronavirus infections on Friday. It was the highest one-day total for Florida, which now makes up roughly one in five new cases nationally.

About 95 percent of those hospitalized are unvaccinated, and Mary Mayhew, the president and CEO of the Florida Hospital Association, said the Delta variant that is sweeping through Florida is infecting young and unvaccinated people and is much different than the previous strain.

“We have to convince 25-year-olds, 30-year-olds that this is now life threatening for them,” Mayhew said during an interview on Morning Joe. “That is not what they saw and what we experienced last year.”

As Florida’s coronavirus infections continue to soar, public health officials and local elected leaders have pressed the DeSantis administration to take more drastic steps to get the virus under control. DeSantis, however, has maintained a strict “no-mandate” approach to the virus, including touting an executive order last week that prohibits school districts from requiring masks in K-12 facilities. He also vowed to fight any cities or municipalities that try to institute Covid restrictions, including mask mandates or lockdowns.

Such as?

Here - in font so you can't miss it -

As I stated

I'm AGAINST private entities being considered 'people. And I'm AGAINST either private entities or states being able to get around Constitutional protections.

And I'm AGAINST private entities or states mandating the vaccine.

Let me add this too, since it's one of my tenets: I think we need to add a Constitutional amendment that ensures PERSONAL PRIVACY - which means against intrusion by other levels of government, businesses, and individuals; the same way a lot of European governments have amended their constitutions to ensure personal privacy in the age of mass personal electronic and other spying, and data gathering.

Is that, finally, clear enough for you to understand?

But JUST LIKE SIGNY I can imagine that facts may change, to be different from today. It may be some very bad version of this virus, or another future virus. But we might need mandated vaccines, the exact same way we have other mandated vaccines like rabies and mumps and measles.

However, I think it should be at the federal level, not the state, or county. IE in a country-wide epidemic, or international pandemic, the federal government should do it directly, instead of having the government hide behind corporations and states.

SIX, did you somehow misread or skip over important phrases like

"disagree that corporations ... are people"

"abhor that private and state institutions can ... remove our Constitutional protections"

"SHOULD it become necessary [meaning, it is NOT NOW NECESSRY] to mandate vaccinations ..."?

Are you SO determined to be a dickhead that you can't take "YES" for an answer? If you agree with me then you agree with KIKI. I don't see any daylight between our positions. UNDER SOME CIRCUMSTANCES, VACCINE MANDATES MIGHT BE NECESSARY. If OTOH you believe that vaccines should NEVER be mandated under ANY circumstances ... well, then, you're an idiot.

*****

I wonder on what the constitutional authority vaccine mandates would be based.

What if some deadly disease was being carried from state to state? Could the Federal government step in and mandate quarantine and vaccination measures as an interstate issue? Under "promote the general welfare"? That clause could potentially justify a multitude of sins.

I suppose the same could be said for state, county, or city mandates.

On a completely sideways note: Did you ever notice how DIFFERENT county structures are? They don't have legislatures (unlike city councils, state legislstures etc) altho they DO have courts. The elected officials are administrators, in essence, not presidents or mayors. Except in CA where measures may be taken directly to vote, there's no legislative input on county measures, altho counties do, indeed, levy taxes.

There have been city, county, and state public health departments ever since when.

At least four cities claim to be the first health department in the United States. The city of Yakima, WA claims to be the oldest in the nation, established in 1911. The city of Petersburg, Virginia, claims it established the first permanent board of health in 1780. The city of Baltimore, Maryland, claims it established the first US health department in 1793. And Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, followed 1794, claiming its Board of Health as "one of the first". Finally Boston, Massachusetts, claims in 1799 it established the first board of health and the first health department, with Paul Revere named as the first health officer.

I think pestilence and plague were always concerns whenever people congregated in crowded permanent settlements. And somebody ended up trying to keep people safe, as a whole.

I'm mostly struck by how towns run themselves. There aren't any D or R or other designations. And even though I served on a city committee for a few years, I'm not really sure exactly how city council members distinguish themselves in terms of why you should vote for them.

SIX: Your problem is that you still think this is only about vaccination.

YOUR problem is, you think everyone is stupid unless they reflexively turn everything "they" say 180deg around. But that's as mistaken as believing everything "they" say. In both cases, your thinking is defined by what "they" say.

"They" don't need a pandemic to stampede people into compliance. If they don't have a real event to weaponize (911) they'll make one up (RUSSIA!RUSSIA!).

"Never let a good crisis go to waste" - Rahm Emanuel (Barack Obama's former Chief of Staff)

But just because they're good at weaponizing events and turning them into crises - or even whipping them up out of thin air - doesn't mean that events, or even crises, don't exist. The problem is separating out the (few) grains of wheat from the (much) chaff thrown into the wind. If you want to know what's REALLY going on, you have to insist on EVIDENCE. REAL evidence. And blanket denial isn't evidence. Neither is fear-mongering, and you're doing both.

The pandemic is just one tiny instance of our fascist - and I mean truly fascist- corporate/centralized/globalist's drive to control everything.

Focusing on vaccinations is not only self-defeating (bc you will drive away potential allies who have real reason to worry about getting sick with Covid-19, such as myself) ....

You will fail to see the truly awful scope of what's being done, which should horrify anyone at this point, if they've been paying attention.

Forest and trees, yanno?

You're fighting the wrong fight. It's like the anti-war protesters who put so much effort into demonstrating in 1968. By 1975 they had turned into corporate droids. Don't turn everyone who is concerned about Covid-19 into an enemy because 1) we have real reason to be concerned by being in a vulnerable population and 2) you'll drive away people who fundamentally agree with you.

This is not the hill to die on, and even if you manage to win your quixotic fight against vaccines and masks (and any other measure of self-protection!) nothing else will have fundamentally changed.

In New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio correctly said masking is a secondary concern
when "the whole ball game is vaccination." And he is acting on it, announcing Tuesday
that the city will require proof of vaccination in the form of a health pass for entrance into
gyms, restaurants, and indoor entertainment venues. The city will begin enforcing the program
-- the first of its kind in a US city -- on September 13, he said.

It's a necessary and overdue step. But why aren't more cities and states taking it? And more
importantly: Why isn't President Joe Biden?

Quote:

The latest example is New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who on Monday said that he is asking
private restaurants and bars to require proof of vaccination for entry. He's right -- they
should. But why place the burden of creating sensible public health mandates on private
businesses? Cuomo is, after all, the governor. If he believes, as he says, that it is in the
"best interests" of these businesses -- and ostensibly the public -- to have inessential
indoor events reserved for the vaccinated, why not make that the policy of New York state?

I can't even finish this article. It's so fucking bad.

That's a rarity. I can even make it through most Vox and Salon articles I read.
At least they're usually unintentionally funny.

This dumb bitch actually thinks that calling them "health passes" instead of "vaccine passports" will
make them work.

I bet this no-doubt-woke-as-fuck-dummy doesn't even realize that what she's suggestion means
that almost no black people in New York would have any freedoms at all if it came true.

Or maybe she does and she doesn't care. Democrats are racists after all.

Walensky on vaccine mandates: "You know, that's something that I think the administration is looking into. It's something that I think we're looking to see approval from the vaccine. Overall, I think, in general, I am all for more vaccination. But I have nothing further to say on that, except that we're looking into those policies."

"As that science evolves, I evolve, with our -- with the CDC, the guidance," Walensky said. "What I will say is, I continue to be humbled by this virus. I have no interest in continuing mask guidance. And the best way to stop a new variant from spreading is to have less virus out there."

Are you saying you think that every bit of evidence is suspect that comes from every country on the planet, researchers, doctors, and hospitals around the globe, and even ordinary people who talk to each other about dead family members (people who've talked to me, for example) - that everyone who says COVID-19 is real and kills people - are banded together in one giant conspiracy to fabricate nothing into something?

I hope you have enough oars in the water to understand the difference between government pronouncements backed up by ZERO evidence - like for example Iraq WMD, and how RUSSIA!!! RUSSIA!!! RUSSIA!!! done doed every little and big thing possible since 2016 - and evidence about COVID-19 coming from everywhere.

Did you read all of their research personally, or are you reading what the CDC, WHO and John Hopkins tells you are in there?

Have you done any research on whether or not any of that data or those studies are legit science and not politically or monetarily motivated?

Everybody in those organizations has been lying to us about things like where the virus came from since the beginning.

There's not much of a difference.

Not when the US has a dollar tied to Oil and has printing presses running 24/7 and we're giving money to almost everybody else in the world with very little oversight and zero chance anybody is ever going to trace it all.

Has Covid-19 really made you forget about US Imperialism, multi-national corporations that have no loyalty to the US or the US Constitution, or the fact that we're essentially a one-world government at this point with just enough autonomy to give the illusion that this isn't already the case?

vaccinated against Covid-19 OR be frequently tested
mask guidance
colleges demand that students, faculty and staff have their shots
Corporate America (Google) is beginning to follow suit (for those returning to the workplace rather than working from home)
universal vaccine mandates at hospitals, clinics and other health-care settings

Well - AHEM ! - as mentioned previously, employers have the right to demand employees do anything legal as a condition of employment. I'm not saying I support it, but it's a bit hard for me to be outraged about a ship that sailed over 30 years ago.

And schools have always required a certain level of vaccination for attendance. Again, I'm not saying I'm for it in this case, but unless laws are changed substantially, this is a done deal.

Federal workers have a choice - vaccine OR testing.

Finally, healthcare is one area where I might support universal vaccination. One should recognize that the population potentially being exposed is already extremely vulnerable, and that they're in a situation about which they don't have a choice.

But I would think that before vaccination, N95 masks should be a requirement.

YES, I read original research to form my opinions, and not stories ABOUT research. I make a point of tracking down original research for important events. And while I haven't read ALL research, I've read hundreds of research papers to date.
Quote:

or are you reading what the CDC, WHO and John Hopkins tells you are in there?
NO. I don't want to read stories ABOUT research, I want to read research, and I seek it out, and fault stories that don't link it. Honest reporting should always include links to original information.
Quote:

It's like global warming. If you don't understand the basic science, you can imagine that there is all sorts of nefarious misinformation, instead of what is in reality well-demonstrated fact. And yes, I know enough to separate out the BS from the legit.

Where the virus really came from is still an unknown. Just FYI. And nobody is on the same page, like they would be if they were in a grand conspiracy.

Well - not EVERY country is financially tied to the US (City of London). Not Russia, or China, or Vietnam, or Cuba, or Venezuela, or Burundi, or ... and the US is certainly not spreading around enough to buy every research group. every hospital, every health care worker, every news service, every government, and private citizens by the thousands of millions around the globe.

You confuse "the west" with the entire planet. Believe it or not, there are whole countries not enmeshed with "the west".

KIKI doesn't get her "info" from Memeology 101 - which I personally find is not any better (as a source of data) than the cartoons that THUGR posts. It's just really highly filtered opinion.

China just closed down Beijing because of this "hoax" that you keep insisting on.

If you recall, it was China going thru the expense and effort of building large, "instant hospitals" in Wuhan that - for me - was the "tipping point" between "is this really something, or is this nothing?" Whether they were really a functional response to the virus or a giant publicity stunt didn't matter, because they were responding to SOMETHING that was roiling Wuhan and sickening/killing people.

It is really something. Iran, China, Russia, N Korea, Cuba ... nations for whom no love is lost between them and "the west", and who have absolutely NO interest in being, or appearing to be, weak- economically, socially, politically, heathcare-wise - are ALL responding to this "hoax" in one way or another. If it were truly a "hoax", they wouldn't be participating bc it would only make them look weak.
