Here the big cool down is expected to be on Monday. All the way at down to 86F (28C) ... woohoo!!! I can hardly wait! I just get thru each summer day by day.

Long range says August will be cooler than normal, which might make up for roasting in the last half of July.

I hope your interior gets some of that rain BRENDA. Fire is always a summertime/ early fall risk.

Cooling for your corner is good SIG.

Unfortunately the Interior of the province did not see any of this rain or areas closer to the Rockies. There is a bad fire burning not far from Cranbrook which is mum's home town. And it is still dry up in the Peace River country too.

Early fall has the Wild Fire services nervous here in BC. I expect to be reporting on fires into September.

Glad to hear your weather is finally cooling down. Wish I could say the same. The extreme heat is a lot less agreeable with me these days. I won't be getting all that much done outside for at least the next week.

My "dread project" I was talking about early this year before all the bad news with my Grandma passing and my diagnosis finally got an update.

Nothing is finalized yet, but there appears to be some good news coming and we're just working out some details...

In short, my property taxes had almost doubled this year from last year. I spent weeks putting info/pictures/videos together and also comparing my place to a couple dozen houses in the neighborhood and by far mine was higher than the average increase.

It's hard to tell with the limited info I was provided today, but I believe I cut the increase down to somewhere in the area of only 22% to 26%, and I intend to cut it down further without the need to go to court over it.

I'll never get it down to zero because too many idiots that got lied to that it would only be a $20 increase on their taxes voted for a public school referendum that raised everybody's property taxes between 13% and 16% is a thing that happened last year. How do I know that these parents were told it was only $20? Because my next door neighbor who voted for it with her husband showed me the flier her kids were sent home with when I told her that my taxes were going up $300 and hers were going up $270 because of that vote.

F-ing liars.

They also held the referendum on a mid-term primary vote that NOBODY goes to. My vote didn't stand a chance. Of the less than 2,000 people who showed up to vote, sanity lost that referendum vote by 3-to-1. That tax increase would never have passed if they did it during the Presidential General election vote.

Government wouldn't be government if it weren't scammin'.

I hear ya. I don't think anybody exactly knows how the hell I got what I got, and I don't get the feeling that anybody cares enough to figure that out either. The system got what they wanted. Another lifelong customer.

I can avoid the weather. I've got A/C now.

I've had two big wins in two days now. Those taxes I mostly fixed, and I just pulverized a mole that has been wreaking havock on my lawn with my sledgehammer. It was nice to release my inner cave man and/or Gallagher II.

I usually love animals, but I hope it suffered as much as I am. My poor landscaping. What a mess.

Hey congrats on the taxes!
And while I feel sorry for the moke, I have no sympathy for the roof rats around here. Wanna come and fix the neighborhood rat problem?

Got new locks for my doors on a great sale. It will be a while until they're all installed because the doors need to be prepped and painted first, but they're all keyed with the same key, so whenever I finally get around finishing all of that I'll only need one key for everything instead of 3 different keys like I do now.

The sale came at a great time. I'm still letting that painted porch floor cure since it's been humid and is making that process slower than it should take, but once I get that lockset installed it will be the first time I've been able to lock the porch since I moved here. Not really worried about it since I've left expensive equipment out there before and nobody's ever come in. We've got a pretty good neighborhood here and I've kept my house lit up like a Christmas tree since I upgraded all the lights to cheap LED power anyhow. Half the time I don't even remember to lock my kitchen door out to the porch at night and my brother would lose his mind when he realized that I'd leave that unlocked all night while we were sleeping when he'd come to visit.

I'm going to have a TV out there that can stream content, and that's going to be easily spottable from the street, so I figured I'd better get a lock for the door. I'm going to put up paper blinds in front for now just because they were cheap and I haven't yet made up my mind on what my permanent blind solution will be since anything beyond paper blinds will cause real damage that needs to be fixed if I ever change my mind on that.

No rush on any of this though, since it's going to be over 105-110 real feel the next few days outside and I don't want to put an A/C out there. It kind of defeats the purpose of the room. I can't wait to be able to chill out there with the huge slider windows open and have that breeze.

Won't be long now.

Yeah. It's not fun. So glad I've got A/C these days. That one window unit keeping up and cooling the whole house even in this crap. I don't think that poor thing has had a break for 48 hours straight right now. It's been hot for a week now, but the last two days and tomorrow are just obscene.

Got my new lockset on the porch door today and put one of the handles on the kitchen door to replace the old beat up knob. I'm going to have to take that one back off whenever I get around to painting the door, but with the asinine way that door was installed I've had almost everybody who's ever come hear slam their fingers in that door, and I've done it twice myself since I've had the place. Never again with the new lever door knobs.

Also got my grandma's oriental rug in there and vacuumed up. I had to spray it down with febreeze and I hope the smell goes away with the windows wide open. Even though it was wrapped up, it seems to have gotten a bit of a funky smell after 4 or so years in the garage. Looks clean though.

Looks like my aunt is going to come by to visit for a while tomorrow after it cools off if the rain isn't terrible. That will be nice.

I think I can probably get her to help me move the fireplace TV stand and the futon out there. She's kind of a badass so it will be easy. I think I'll wait until my buddy can come by to help me move the big recliner out there though since that has a bit of weight to it and needs to be spun out there in an awkward fashion because of the narrow door and its vicinity to my new fridge. I think she's more than capapble of doing that with me, but because all of the floors are finished and most of the trim is finished as well, along with that really nice new fridge being right there, I don't want to take any chances damaging anything.

She's also coming with the awesome 2-wheeler dolly from my grandma's garage that was promised to me, since it's not needed to take any more furniture out of the house. Great timing there too since I can get my neighbor's stove I've decided not to try to swap out with mine out of my garage on garbage day, at which point I can put my 3rd large garbage can back in the garage and off of the concrete slab behind my porch. Then I can set up a nice little sitting/smoking area right outside of the porch, where it's still tucked away and private, but I won't be smoking in the finished porch except for when it's raining or super cold outside.

I believe that I can get money for my old fridge from the power company, but there appears to be a few hoops to jump through to get it. I have to decide if it's worth doing or if I should just put that out on the street the following week and be done with it.

After that, I'll finally have my garage more or less cleared except for some projects I need to work on, and I'll finally have access to both of my work benches back.

The dog took me for my walk, as usual, but I had to cut it short bc I wanted to get to the hazardous waste roundup this AM. So I managed to dump off the old frig compressor and a bunch of other e-waste, sharps from when I was giving myself allergy shots, and a heavy (30lb? more?) bag of soil conditioner (CaSO4) which isn't hazardous waste but I can't just throw it in the trash or green waste bc if they see a big cloud of white powder as they're dumping or shredding the load they'll have to assume it's a contaminated load. Anyway, it was close by and free so I was happy to declutter a bit more.

93F (34C), high clouds and humid. Another day in paradise!

Sweet! My aunt came over and I helped her with her tech issues and she helped me move all the furniture out to the porch. I wasn't going to have her help with the recliner, but she grabbed one end of it and right away said it wouldn't be a problem.

I got the blinds up and the new TV set up to the network. Everything is done except for washing the cover to the futon and getting the mattress out there. I even tested out keeping all the windows and the outer door closed and yes... My single A/C unit won't have a problem cooling off that room as well as the rest of my house.

Only one problem to speak of so far... The TV either isn't powerful enough to receive the network from that distance, or my router isn't powerful enough to send it out there. The streaming gets interrupted from buffering with the door open, and the TV won't even find the network with the door closed. I find that quite funny since it can find about 8 other networks in the neighborhood from through the glass windows.

Sadly, there's no closer location that I can put the thing because of where the coaxial comes in. I suppose I could probably put it on the 2nd floor. If that doesn't work though, I'm going to have to get a signal booster and in the meantime just take thumb drives with content out there if I want to watch something.

I finally got my living room back.

She brought the 2-wheeler too, so this Wednesday night I take out the stove, and one way or another I'll have the old fridge out of my garage by that time next week.

This has been like months of disarray in my life that is finally coming to a close. Feels great.

I spent a little time yesterday trying to see if I could use an old router as a wifi booster. Though that is a thing that is possible to do, I don't know if I can do it with the age of my old router... Or, if I am able to manage a way to do it if it would even be safe to do by a security standpoint.

I might have to bite the bullet and actually buy a modern device designed for that task.

It's a shame... I did take the cable router that was at my Grandma's house to try to preform a task that didn't work out at my Aunt's apartment and ultimately wasn't even necessary, but rather than keep it I brought it back to my Grandma's and it was thrown out. I guess the cable company didn't even want it back, so it was likely an old piece of garbage, but since it still did work (for whatever purpose they had it for) it would have been newer than my old one is. I just didn't want more JUNK in my house. Honestly, I don't know why they even had it. They didn't have cable internet. Maybe Dish Network gave it to them as a signal booster or something? LOL... maybe it didn't do anything at all and my aunt just said that it worked and didn't even know what it was for.

Debating on working on this now or mowing my lawn and cleaning up the huge mess from the thunderstorm the other night.

I thought my 8 hour power outage sucked, but I hear that at least as of last night there were still people in the area without power. The storm itself wasn't even really that bad and dumped a whole lot less water than they were predicting, but it came in like a FORCE. It actually ripped my 4" corrugated downspout extender off one of my garage downspouts with that wind. That's never happened in the 3 or so years I've had them up in any of the bad storms we've had before.

I hope it goes smoothly and doesn't consume your whole day, BRENDA!

So, if you want to know 'how I spend my day'...

It's a day of little chores today

walk the dog
butcher two chickens, freeze the parts and cook two carcasses for dog food and bone broth
and start marinating 1/2 chix parts for dinner
deep- water the feijoa, cape honeysuckle and pine tree
dust the house (that's a big one!)
dog bath
dishes
fix dinner: "oven fried" chicken, green beans, cantaloupe
bus the kitchen
prepare for a meeting with insurance person and contractor

Just being an industrious housewife!

Yeah.

Kinda too hot to enjoy the room unless I want to pay to A/C it right now, but there's going to be about 6 months out of every year that I'm going to get a ton of enjoyment out of it now.

Once I get that streaming working and get myself a bigger TV out there, boy is that room going to get a ton of use.

Yeah. It wasn't the worst one I've seen since I've been here, but it was pretty bad. I've been out all day cleaning up the mess and I didn't notice any other damage. It's a two day job though, so I'll give it more time while I'm out there tomorrow to check out for damage. Spent at least 2 hours picking up sticks from all over the neighborhood and filling up more than one of the huge bins with the stuff. Front lawn got mowed, but I'm just going to wait until tomorrow to do the back. I'm going to spray for weeds and maybe for bugs too if I feel up to it tomorrow.

It went very smoothly and didn't me too long. Was just a few sentences I needed to string together about 3 different characters and a small paragraph. I will check my email tomorrow and see what this lady has to say.

Well... It wasn't ideal, but I got the streaming working.

Using the old router as a repeater was not really working. It was better than nothing, but it still wasn't pushing the signal out at a good clip with consistancy. Also, it was using old encryption security, which some people said was only a step better than not having any protection at all on your network. I think it's time to retire that box.

I ended up getting a longer coaxial cable and a longer CAT-5 cable to extend the router about 15 feet from the outlet and double back to the MagicJack that's plugged into the wall on the other side of things that aren't a tangled mess. I'd be too worried about that magic jack getting hit with the cluster of things plugged in by the TV.

Now the signal is perfect for the old FireTV stick out there. It still wasn't strong enough for the cheap smartTV to pick up, but who cares when you have a working Firestick on it. The only problem with this solution is that I've got two unsightly cables running on the floor between my living room TV stand and the table at the corner of the living room that used to house the router. Not the end of the world, but it will make vacuuming that wall harder than it needs to be.

Oh well... Beats researching and paying for a new device.

Well! I got almost everything done on my list and except watering a couple of shrubs out front. The BIG task was dusting, since I haven't done it in a couple of months and there was a gross layer of dust everywhere. I used a bucket of water with some rubbing alcohol, a few drops of dish detetgent and a sponge since no way was a dust rag gonna work, especially near the kitchen where everything is a little oily.

Plus I did more than usual including the tops of window frames, door frames, doors and windowsills. Not quite a spring cleaning but very thorough! So three bucket changes and 2.5 hours later, the house is cleaner!

Cool down tomorrow, and a few days of yardwork ahead.

Have you figured out the wonders of the microfiber rag yet?

I've had a dozen of those things lying around that I got for free after rebate years ago.

I used to use wipes, and before that I would use a spray bottle and paper towels to wipe down dust off of things. I know there was a non-feather feather duster in the mix at one point, and a swiffer thing with expensive replacement pads too. I figured there had to be an easier way to do it, so I youtubed it. Those rags are amazing. Just work your way down from the top to the bottom, then hit everything with a vacuum and you're done. Wash the rags and you're ready for next time. So much wasted time and/or living with dust all my life because I didn't know the right way to do the job.

Back from my walk and all I had to do indoors was take out the garbage and that is done.

Checked my email and the lady was pleased with what I sent her. Now, I just have to take another dip into the web site for this publishers and figure out why my book fits best with them. Then I also have to throw together another paragraph and email this all again to my helper. It shouldn't be too much longer before something else is winging its way to a publisher.

Oh, trust me, SIX, I would have gone thru about a dozen microfiber rags. If I don't let the dust build up they'd work fine, but this was not that situation! (Hubby does have some in the garage.)

Meanwhile, I sprayed the weeds between the curb and the bender board and between the front walkway pavers. I'll probably have to re-spray the Bermuda grass since it's so gorram persistent!

Will be talking with someone about a battery backup for our solar. Just in case of earthquake.

I can't emphasize enough how happy I am with the tweak I made to puppy's diet! I've been adding this and that and it's all been useful, but potassium was the magic ingredient. She's doing donuts in the yard again.
