Not Just 'Russia, Russia, Russia': Hillary Demands Criminal Charges For Americans "Engaged" In "Propaganda"24 - 06:20 PM

Amid claims that Trump is a "danger to this country and the world," Hillary Clinton - the original sinner of 'Russia, Russia, Russia'-propaganda - has called for anyone spreading "misinformation" to be criminally charged as a "better deterrence" ahead of the election.

Specifically, the former Secretary of State told MSNBC host Rachel Maddow on Monday that Americans "engaged" in "propaganda" - similar to the type that led to the Russians "boosting Trump" in 2016 - should face criminal prosecution.

"I think it's important to indict the Russians, just as Mueller indicted a lot of Russians who were engaged in direct election interference and boosting Trump back in 2016.

But I also think there are Americans who are engaged in this kind of propaganda. And whether they should be civilly or even in some cases criminally charged is something that would be a better deterrence, because the Russians are unlikely, except in a very few cases, to ever stand trial in the United States," Clinton told Maddow.

Though I'm under no illusion that foreign threats are very real, "Disinfo" or "Misinformation" is just an Establishment dog whistle for "anything outside of the messaging we want everyone to believe as truth".

Instead of using the tools that our very capable Alphabet agencies have at their hands to root this out and combat it as they always have until recently, they want to allow the threat of external influence manipulate enough of us collectively to willingly hand over the keys to the internet to them for the final time.

Iran has been sending information they hacked from Trump to the Harris campaign and media outlets. They are ignoring it and working with the FBI to help stop it. This is what Clinton is trying to make sure doesn't happen again.

Trump, literally asked Russia to help and used anything he could to help himself. Remember Wiki leaks? See the difference comrade.

Now, within the next few days you will see one of the Russian spies who tried to frame Hunter Biden, Ukraine, meet face to face with Hunter so he can apologize.

Wikileaks. As far as I'm concerned, they did everyone a favor by reporting on sleazy DNC machinations.
And if somebody has genuine information on the Trump campaign, they should send it out to the media.

The only way people in a democracy can make INTELLIGENT decisions is on the basis of solid information. Not in the dark, and not being fed propaganda 24/7/365.

Yanno THUGR, you pretend to be all about freedom, but in reality freedom scares you.

Wikileaks are heroes.

They were heroes when they exposed GWB and the Republicans. They were heroes in 2016 when they exposed Clinton and the Democrats.

Ted still hasn't put 2 + 2 together on any front.

We're talking to somebody who may as well speak a different language. He is still living under an entirely fabricated reality.

One man’s stand against Donald Trump’s election conspiracies

After Trump claimed the 2020 Presidential election was “rigged,” a short documentary shows the effect of election conspiracies in the crucial jurisdiction of Maricopa County, Arizona, through the experience of one elected official.

Donald J. Trump’s escalating calls to investigate and prosecute election officials he sees as “corrupt” are sounding alarms among democracy experts and the local and state workers preparing to run elections and tally millions of votes across the country.

In recent social media posts, Mr. Trump has said that election officials “involved in unscrupulous behavior will be sought out, caught, and prosecuted at levels, unfortunately, never seen before in our Country.” The November election, he added, “will be under the closest professional scrutiny and, WHEN I WIN, those people that CHEATED will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law, which will include long term prison sentences so that this Depravity of Justice does not happen again.”

On its face, the statements are promises to enforce the law. But coming from Mr. Trump, a politician who has repeatedly claimed to see corruption and fraud where there is no evidence of either and who as president pressured law enforcement officials to act on his complaints, the words raise the prospect that government officials could be investigated and prosecuted for conducting a fair election.

Senator Lindsey Graham admits that Trump stopped the border bill. He stopped it for the sole reason that he wanted the "border issue" to campaign on. Trump doesn't care about the border or our country.

Graham basically said the Senate is taking orders from a guy who is not currently in office.

The Border Act of 2024 was originally introduced in February by Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., following months of negotiations with Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, I-Ariz., and Murphy said the bill was also authored with the help of the White House and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

The bill quickly fell apart, however, as Trump vocally denounced the bill and urged Republicans not to pass it, calling it a “gift” to Democrats and writing on Truth Social, “A BAD BORDER DEAL IS FAR WORSE THAN NO BORDER DEAL.”

While Murphy told Politico lawmakers behind the bill initially believed they could get support from 20 to 25 Republicans, the legislation ultimately failed to advance in the Senate in a 49-50 vote.

Murphy then reintroduced the bill in May, but it failed again in a 43-50 vote—with even Lankford now voting against it, as Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, was the only GOP senator to support the legislation.

The $118 billion bipartisan bill was sweeping legislation that Greg Chen, senior director of government relations for the American Immigration Lawyers Association, told CNN was “probably the most extensive border funding and security package that we’ve seen in decades.”

What’s In The Border Bill?

The bill includes a number of provisions, such as imposing new restrictions on border crossings that would authorize the government to temporarily enact emergency measures and stop unauthorized crossings between official ports of entry if border crossings pass an average of 5,000 per day in a given week or 8,500 in a single day. The asylum process would also get an overhaul if the bill passed, including new restrictions, such as raising the legal standard to pass the initial assessment and giving asylum seekers fewer chances to have their case appealed before they’re forced to leave the country. The legislation would increase the use of alternatives to immigration detention facilities—like having immigrants wear ankle monitors—until their cases are heard. Those restrictions are balanced out by other measures that are more permissive toward immigration, however, like increasing funding for legal representation for minors under age 13, giving a pathway to citizenship for some immigrants from Afghanistan and increasing the number of job and family visas given each year for three years.

What the debate revealed about Donald Trump

By Mark Mellman | 09/18/24 7:30 AM ET

https://thehill.com/opinion/4885428-trump-debate-lying-gullibility/

Trump could have reacted in several ways when Vice President Harris noted that the Wharton Budget Model found his economic plan would “explode the deficit.”
https://budgetmodel.wharton.upenn.edu/

He could have ignored the attack and repeated the alleged virtues of his plan, or in MAGA style, ridiculed ivory tower academic economists, or attacked Harris’s plan, or focused on the inflation voters have felt under Biden-Harris or taken several other paths.

What was his first reaction? To lie.

“…I went to the Wharton School of Finance and many of those professors, the top professors, think my plan is a brilliant plan…”

In fact, not one Wharton professor seems to have endorsed his plan, let alone graded it “brilliant.”

Challenged in any way, Trump’s first reaction is not to survey the facts and knit them into a compelling argument. Rather it is simply to make-up a bald-faced lie.

That’s not a desirable character trait in a six-year-old or in a president.

Vance Pushed Lies About Haitians Despite His Office Knowing They Were B.S.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Vance's office reached out to Springfield officials about claims Haitian migrants were eating cats -- and ignored their denials

By Nikki McCann Ramirez | September 18, 2024

During a campaign event in Wisconsin on Tuesday, J.D. Vance told supporters that it’s not his job to check if a story is true before broadcasting it to his millions of supporters.

“The media has a responsibility to fact-check,” Vance said of false claims he’s spread accusing “illegal” Haitian migrants in the town of Springfield, Ohio, of killing and eating local pets.

Well, members of the media did fact-check Vance. As it turns out, the Ohio senator and his vice presidential campaign knew there was no credibility to the claims hours after he first aired them publicly, but chose to keep pushing them anyway, plunging the town into chaos.

According to a Wednesday report from The Wall Street Journal, on Sept. 9 — the day Vance first posted on X claiming local cats were being eaten by Springfield’s Haitians — most of which are in the town legally — his office called local authorities to verify the claim.

A Vance staffer “asked point-blank, ‘Are the rumors true of pets being taken and eaten [true]?’” City Manager Bryan Heck told the Journal. “I told him no. There was no verifiable evidence or reports to show this was true. I told them these claims were baseless.”

This is pretty straight forward, but not from Rolling Stone:

Republicans have to avoid a government shutdown this close to the election

Going into the November election, the biggest thing voters need to see is that the GOP can responsibly run the government, something they've failed to do over the last several years.

Republicans stand to lose the most if they let Donald Trump create dysfunction in the process with the election so close.

Sure, Donald, let’s cap interest rates

Donald Trump just announced that he plans to institute a temporary cap of 10% on credit card interest rates "while working Americans catch up."
https://x.com/SwissWatchGuy/status/1836587728902799635

Sigh. It just doesn't matter what he says, does it? Most likely nobody will bother reporting this. Banks won't bother protesting it. Wonky bloggers like me won't bother explaining why Trump can't do it. Conservatives will mostly ignore the fact that this really is socialism, far worse than Kamala Harris's trivial price gouging proposal. In fact, just the opposite: His enablers will suddenly produce a spate of explanations for why it's a brilliant, far-reaching, and conservative proposal.

Stuff like this is a product of intersectionality: Trump is both mentally declining and willing to say any weird thing that pops into his fevered brain. Everyone knows it, so nobody takes anything he says seriously. He's treated like a five-year-old running for president.

More at https://jabberwocking.com/sure-donald-lets-cap-interest-rates/

BY THE WAY: Credit card debt isn't even an especially big issue right now.

Trump’s health care plan exposes the truth about his “populism”

The Republican ticket is taking on Big Cancer Patient.

by Eric Levitz | Sep 18, 2024, 1:10 PM CDT

https://www.vox.com/politics/372635/trump-health-care-plan-vance-preex
isting-conditions

Sen. JD Vance has fashioned himself as a different kind of Republican.

He is an “anti-regime,” “anti-elitist” populist who believes that America’s social order is “tilted toward the few.” He has decried traditional economic conservatism as an ideology that “subordinates human life and community to a false ideal of the market somehow existing independent of our society.” His conception of a just economy is purportedly informed by Catholic social teaching — specifically, the imperative to be “sympathetic with the meek and poor of the world without treating them primarily as victims” and “protective of children and families and with the things necessary to ensure they thrive.” In his address to the Republican National Convention, Vance suggested that Trump holds similar priorities, lauding him for narrowing the “divide between the few, with their power and comfort in Washington, and the rest of us.”

And yet, many of the Republican ticket’s actual policies bear little trace of this skepticism of markets or concern for the left-behind.

This is especially true of Trump’s newly revealed health care plan — or, at least, what the campaign has revealed of it. On Sunday, Vance disclosed that the new, “anti-regime” Republican Party’s plan for fixing America’s medical system is … to deregulate the health insurance market so that insurers can refuse coverage to those who need treatment the most.

The GOP ticket’s dismally familiar health care plan tells us two things about the party’s ascendant populism. First, it is much more novel in its rhetoric than its governing priorities. And second, even where it plausibly privileges “the many” over “the few,” it does not prioritize the weak over the strong.

It’s now all fiction. Donald Trump destroyed reality

Republicans are openly proud of their lies — but our disdain for the truth is bipartisan

By Brian Karem | September 19, 2024 9:00AM (EDT)

https://www.salon.com/2024/09/19/its-now-all-fiction-donald-destroyed-
reality
/

Let’s start with Donald Trump. The former president still won’t accept he lost the 2020 election, he lies about immigrants eating pets and continues his baseless claims that women are carrying fetuses full term – only to kill them after they are born. He's also an adjudicated rapist and convicted felon, but that’s another story.

The rampant stupidity and numb ignorance from him is frightening. But Trump is just the vanguard for political hatred and violence.

(On to Democrats)

I’m still trying to come to grips with the fact that thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies blew up simultaneously in Lebanon killing and injuring hundreds of people. The targets were apparently Hezbollah operatives targeted by the Israeli government, we’re told. Casualties included children. It was an act of blatant terrorism - and apparently taken by a sovereign nation. Who knew it could even be done? Who thought it up? How insidious is it? It’s like a scene out of a James Bond movie, or "The Kingsmen." It’s real comic book crap.

When I asked a senior White House official if they could speak to whether or not similar booby traps were contained in American communication devices I was rebuked; “I can’t speak to that.” I was told. Ummm, That’s not reassuring. Neither was NSC spokesperson John Kirby’s refusal to answer any specific questions in the briefing room Wednesday about who was behind the explosions, if we are in danger, or whether or not the conflict in the Middle East is widening - even as it obviously is. That we don’t acknowledge the widening of the conflict tells you just how pervasive propaganda and disinformation are within the government, politics and the press.

The only thing we know for certain, according to Kirby, is we weren’t behind the pager explosions. Israel? Our government ain’t saying nothin’. Not making it easy.

(Back to the Republicans)

So, I’m back to this: No one is making it easy for anyone these days. Donald Trump is merely the worst offender among the worst of us. But none of us are immune from fictional fabrications, and many in public life use those manipulations to make their lives easier at the expense of others.

In one of my last conversations with Sarah Huckabee Sanders at the White House during the Trump administration, she informed me she was leaving her post to take care of her kids.

“If you’re telling me the truth,” I said to her, “then good for you. Work will always be there but you only have one chance to raise your kids. That’s a wise choice.”

A short time after she left the White House she announced she was running for governor in Arkansas. Exactly. Flash forward and over the weekend she announced that her kids keep her humble and then attacked Vice President Kamala Harris for not having any kids to keep her humble. Sanders isn’t making it easy to like her with that statement. There was little truth and no humility in it. But hypocrisy and rage is all the MAGA crowd has left – and they play the few notes they have as virtuosos.

(The American public prefers their fictional versions of truth to actual reality)

Though Trump, again, is symptomatic of the disinformation problem, he is not the cause. We all share in that responsibility. Trump is merely the man most effective at using the tools to confuse you.

Scientific American Didn’t Need to Endorse Anybody

The magazine’s endorsement of a candidate undermines trust in expertise.

By Tom Nichols | September 18, 2024, 6:51 PM ET

https://www.theatlantic.com/newsletters/archive/2024/09/scientific-ame
rican-harris-endorsement-science-covid/679931
/

I understand the frustration that probably led to this decision. Donald Trump is the most willfully ignorant man ever to hold the presidency. He does not understand even basic concepts of … well, almost anything. (Yesterday, he explained to a woman in Michigan that he would lower food prices by limiting food imports—in other words, by reducing the supply of food. Trump went to the Wharton School, where I assume “supply and demand” was part of the first-year curriculum.) He is insensate to anything that conflicts with his needs or beliefs and briefing him on any topic is virtually impossible.

When a scientific crisis—a pandemic—struck, Trump was worse than useless. He approved the government program to work with private industry to create vaccines, but he also flogged nutty theories about an unproven drug therapy and later undermined public confidence in the vaccines he’d helped bring to fruition. His stubborn stupidity literally cost American lives.

It makes sense, then, that a magazine of science would feel the need to inform its readers about the dangers of such a man returning to public office. To be honest, almost any sensible magazine about anything probably wants to endorse his opponent, because of Trump’s baleful effects on just about every corner of American life.

Strange as it seems to say it, a magazine devoted to science should not take sides in a political contest. For one thing, it doesn’t need to endorse anyone: The readers of a magazine such as Scientific American are likely people who have a pretty good grasp of a variety of concepts, including causation, the scientific method, peer review, and probability. It’s something of an insult to these readers to explain to them that Trump has no idea what any of those words mean. They likely know this already.

Now, I am aware that the science and engineering community has plenty of Trump voters in it. (I know some of them.) But one of the most distinctive qualities of Trump supporters is that they are not swayed by the appeals of intellectuals. They’re voting for reasons of their own, and they are not waiting for the editors of Scientific American to brainiac-splain why Trump is bad for knowledge.

In fact, we have at least some evidence that scientists taking sides in politics can backfire.

The Actual Electoral Map Is Three States

If the former president wins the East Coast trio of Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia, he will go back to the White House.

There are really only three states that will decide the presidential election: Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia.

If Vice President Kamala Harris can’t carry Pennsylvania, her only hope is on a Southern strategy. Harris must win either Georgia or North Carolina. She has no other path to the White House. The election could well be determined when polls close in the eastern time zone. (Well, yes, after the ballots are all counted.)

This isn’t to say the other four battlegrounds — Michigan, Wisconsin, Nevada and Arizona — aren’t important. If Harris loses Pennsylvania, which her aides acknowledge is a highly challenging state, she’d still need to pick up one of the two Western states as well as one of the two Southern states to win — so long as she carries Michigan and Wisconsin.

Yet none of those other four battlegrounds are relevant if Trump first blocks her in Pennsylvania, Georgia and North Carolina.

It’s the most obvious route for the former president and a reminder of the advantage the Electoral College can confer on a Republican. Should Trump defeat Harris in Pennsylvania, a state President Joe Biden spent much of his childhood in and still only carried by about 80,000 votes, her hopes then hinge on a pair of slightly right-of-center states Democrats have carried once each in this century: North Carolina (won by Barack Obama in 2008) and Georgia, which lined up with Biden in 2024.

“It comes down to seven battleground states, you got to win four of them in order to carry it,” Republican National Committee Chair Michael Whatley told me. “Except if you win Georgia, North Carolina and Pennsylvania, then that’s going to get you over the hump.”

Trump’s television advertising reflects his focus on the trio. He’s spent the most in Pennsylvania, not surprising given its pivotal nature and six media markets, and the second most in Georgia. Last week, he dumped $17 million in North Carolina, a state where he had not made extensive advertising buys for the rest of the campaign.

What a load of horseshit with your fake ass graphs, Kevin.

American credit card debt hit 1 Trillion for the first time this year.

So if that's 5% of American's disposable income, that means Kevin is saying that American's
currently have $20 Trillion in disposable income.

You must be including all of the billionaires and their disposable income in that figure.

I can assure you, Kevin, that outside of your lily-white gated community, credit card debt is
a very large issue for tens of millions of Americans. It's just one of a few major reasons
you're losing the minority vote and the only people who will be voting Democrat are the rich,

6ix, yesterday I loaned a Trumptard $3,500 (maximum I can send by Zelle per 24 hours) and today I will loan him another $2,500. Starting in January of this year, that Trumptard has borrowed $123,350, agreeing to repay me $1,000 per month at zero interest rate. Actual amount repaid, so far this year? $4,350. Typical of all Trumptards is to whine about not having enough money, so can't pay right now, but next month I got promised by the Trumptard to be paid $1,800. That might happen but Trumptards can't control their spending so it is 50/50 chance the promise is worthless.

The only person keeping this idiot Trumptard afloat is me. The Trumptard has got some real mental problems about reducing spending to match income. But then don't all angry poor white trash have mental problems preventing them from prospering? Trump will fix it for them. He promised to!

Half the people in Baytown Texas, near Houston, are Trumptards. The Trumptards have so many severe personal problems that Democrats either don't experience at all or only have mild cases. The Trumptards have convinced themselves that Democrats caused their difficult lives and are seeking the help of Trump to straighten out the mess the deranged Trumptards made for themselves. That won't work. Trump can't even straighten his own messed up life. His lawyers keep delaying the day of reckoning but it is coming for Trump.

Elon Musk Is Debasing American Society

Opinion by Thomas Chatterton Williams | September 20, 2024, 7:33 AM ET

To paraphrase former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, you wage mimetic warfare with the unsubstantiated smear you’ve got, not the one you want. It just so happens that the one most recently deployed by Donald Trump is the kind that proliferates these days on X.

When Trump declared, seemingly out of nowhere, during his debate with Vice President Kamala Harris that Haitian immigrants living legally in Springfield, Ohio, were “eating the dogs … eating the cats … eating the pets of the people that live there,” he drew incomprehension, followed by widespread ridicule, from mainstream audiences. What came next was a furious and revealing national conversation on important questions of immigration, race, assimilation, work ethic, diet, traffic violations, duty (to struggling native-born constituencies and to newcomers alike), the limits of tolerance, the inevitability of its opposite, the nature of truth, and much else besides. But on the social-media platform that had provided him with the paranoid talking point in the first place, the discussion and reproduction of Trump’s outburst immediately gave way to the naked and sustained expressions of racism that have become emblematic of the website over the past two years.

When Elon Musk acquired Twitter and changed its name to X, he promptly went about stripping its capacity for content moderation, reinstating extremist accounts, and boosting the reach and visibility of the worst trolls. I have heard many blithe rationalizations of the pragmatic and even salutary benefits of “knowing what people really think.” But the pervasiveness and normalization of what was, until very recently, niche and stigmatized bigotry has been astonishing to witness. Although there was plenty of racism on the internet during Trump’s first and second campaigns, it wasn’t this ubiquitous on mainstream networks such as Twitter. On Musk’s X, the racism has now become so relentless and self-confident that it amounts to a genuine qualitative difference.

“If I had to summarize the intent of X’s algorithm at this point, it would be twofold,” Sam Harris remarked this week on his Making Sense podcast. “The first is to make Elon even more famous than he is. And the second is to make every white user of the platform more racist. If you could pipe the X algorithm into your brain through Neuralink, I think you’d probably jump off the table and go out and buy a Cybertruck and then join a white-supremacist militia. That’s the vibe I get when I spend a few minutes scrolling the homepage.”

Consider a story shared, in the aftermath of Trump’s tirade, by a woman named Rebecca Christophi posting under the handle @rquietlyreading. She generated 1 million views and 11,000 likes for an anecdotal screed about her undergraduate experience sharing a dorm room with an older Haitian student. The roommate had a boyfriend back in Haiti whom she talked with on the room’s landline until very late at night: “It was torture. I could not sleep, I was barely able to stay awake in classes, but I was afraid to say anything to her.” When she finally confronted her roommate, asking her to take the phone out the door to talk, the young Haitian woman “started to cry—how she was affecting me seemed to never have occurred to her. The complete lack of consideration and her shock when I addressed it was hard to wrap my head around. It’s just not how most Americans function.”

The post continues: “This is the issue, isn’t it? If you are bringing in thousands of ppl from other countries whose values/ideals differ drastically from yours, you are inevitably going to change your homeland.” At the end, she adds a “side-note” accusing the roommate of stealing clothes from her, and saying she “also cried when I asked her about it.”

When one user pushed back—“I am sorry that your parents did not prepare you to tell your roommate when you wanted to go to bed. They failed you. You are projecting this failure onto the American value system in a way that is quite unfair”—that response led to a round of even more vehement and explicit racial hatred. “You’re so smug when you know the problem is that blacks are loud, obnoxious, and inconsiderate. They also struggle with impulse control. You wouldn’t tell a black that was loudly and rudely blasting music on the subway to cut that shit out because he’ll probably try to kill you,” someone wrote. “Nigs are gonna nig,” wrote another account that was verified through a paid subscription.

I reached out to Christophi to ask if she’d intended her post to be read as invective against Haitians, and she replied in an email that no, it was just “a story,” its telling triggered by “the recent happenings in Springfield”; she “certainly did not expect so many people to see it or to respond with the hatred and vitriol that they did.” She said that people have since threatened her life and livelihood—which of course is egregious.

And yet, in her message to me, she also doubled down on what she said were “accurate details about the effect of mass immigration.” If, she wrote, “the details coming out of Springfield are conveyed accurately, they only support my statements, for example, the mayor and city council appear to be receiving financial kickbacks for replacing a third of the population of their town with immigrants.” This is a perfect example of the “Great Replacement” theory in action—the idea that immigrants are being welcomed as part of a plot to steal control of the country away from white voters—and it is not true. There is no evidence that the residents of the town are being in any sense replaced.

The choice of a quote from G. K. Chesterton that she shared at the end of the email dampened the sympathy her message might have otherwise elicited: “The definition of the true savage is that he laughs when he hurts you; and howls when you hurt him.”

I am far from a hypersensitive snowflake on constant lookout for racial grievance, nor am I someone who could plausibly be accused of a lack of concern over creeping censoriousness particularly on the previous iteration of Twitter. On the contrary, I believe that maximal tolerance of free expression is crucial to American democracy, and I am deeply skeptical of both formal and informal censorship. I believe that it is vital for all of us—not just college students—to be put in contact with views we passionately disagree with. But through his revealed beliefs and example, Musk has debased the argument about the value of free speech and reduced the terms of this debate to its crudest possible units. With his nearly 200 million followers—a sizable portion of whom amount to cultists—he is responsible for tuning X’s digital culture into a gratuitously repulsive frequency. Astonishingly active and available on the platform that he so bombastically controls, he not only enables bad actors; he also personally praises and promotes them.

Just a week before the presidential debate, Musk wrote, “Very interesting. Worth watching,” about a conversation between Tucker Carlson and the amateur historian and Nazi sympathizer Darryl Cooper. In that talk, Cooper claimed that Hitler had killed millions of Jews unintentionally, and that Winston Churchill was the real villain of the Second World War. Musk has since deleted the post, but such an endorsement from X’s apex user makes the spread of anti-Semitism not just likely but inevitable.

One noxious meme that has been circulating lately depicts a smirking, hook-nosed figure wearing a kippah and rubbing his hands together. Behind him is a wall of cardboard boxes labeled Open Borders, Feminism, Cultural Decay, Globalism, “The Holocaust,” Hate Crime Laws, Climate Change, Gender Bending, Usury, Porno, and so on. “It’s all Jewish. Literally all of it,” a verified account claimed.

This image, too, is a reference to the Great Replacement theory, and the idea that Jews are behind it. These sorts of grotesque posts predate Musk. But under his stewardship, they have absolutely lost their taboo. How could they not? As my colleague Yair Rosenberg has reported, Musk has endorsed that conspiracy theory himself.

Last year, a Jewish user responded to anti-Semitic content on X by posting, “To the cowards hiding behind the anonymity of the internet and posting ‘Hitler was right’: You got something you want to say? Why don’t you say it to our faces.”

A small-time white-nationalist account wrote back to attribute anti-Semitism to minorities, and blaming it on the Jews:
Quote:

Jewish communities have been pushing the exact kind of dialectical hatred against whites that they claim to want people to stop using against them.

I’m deeply disinterested in giving the tiniest shit now about western Jewish populations coming to the disturbing realization that those hordes of minorities that [they] support flooding their country don’t exactly like them too much.

You want truth said to your face, there it is.

Rosenberg pointed out that “his exchange would have languished in obscurity had Musk not replied to this bigoted bromide with six words: ‘You have said the actual truth.’”

Here’s something else that Musk, Trump’s wealthiest and most prominent backer, lamented not long ago: “Racism against white people is the only kind of discrimination that’s allowed.” As the depressing discussions of Haitians—and Jews and Black people in general—have made so inescapably plain, from the top of the Republican ticket down to the most obscure account on X, that is anything but true.

America’s looming election crisis explained in 3 charts

What happens if Trump loses?

By Nicole Narea | Sep 20, 2024, 6:00 AM CDT

https://www.vox.com/politics/372863/2024-election-lies-trump-overturn-
harris

As we near Election Day, it’s well worth taking a step back and assessing the state of American democracy in 2024. One of the two major party candidates refuses to accept his defeat four years ago and shows every sign of doing the same thing again this year if he loses. His supporters are right there with him.

That the election remains close raises the risk of a true crisis but is also a reminder of how, because of Trump, what was once unthinkable is now reality.

The former president has been very consistent in falsely claiming that he won the 2020 election, and in casting doubt on the legitimacy of US elections ahead of the 2024 contest.

During his first debate against Harris, Trump again refused to acknowledge that he lost the 2020 election, walking back his comments in a podcast interview earlier this month in which he said he “lost by a whisker.” And despite facing criminal charges for pressuring election officials to overturn the results in 2020, Trump has not indicated that he will accept the results in November.

“We have to have good elections. Our elections are bad,” he said during the debate.

Trump has also threatened to prosecute “those people that CHEATED” in the 2024 election and subject them to long-term prison sentences if he wins.

His running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-OH), also said in a podcast appearance this month that he wouldn’t have certified the results of the 2020 election if he had been in Congress at the time. “I would have asked the states to submit alternative slates of electors and ask the country to have a debate,” he said.

Trump’s long-running insistence that he won in 2020 appears to be having an effect over time, with several surveys measuring greater buy-in of his lies about the election from voters today than in the past. A December Washington Post/University of Maryland poll found that 36 percent of US adults did not believe Biden was legitimately elected, compared to 29 percent two years prior. And in a Pew Research poll conducted earlier this month, 27 percent of US adults said that Trump did nothing wrong in trying to overturn the election results, up from 23 percent in April.

The pervasiveness of Trump’s lies about the election seems to have also contributed to Republican fears about the future of democracy, which polling suggests are more acute than among Democrats. Republicans were much more likely to say American democracy isn’t working and that it would end in their lifetimes than Democrats in a March Quinnipiac poll.

Overall, surveys suggest that many Americans believe there’s a real possibility that Trump won’t accept the election results. An August ABC/Ipsos poll found that only 29 percent said they believed Trump was prepared to accept the results regardless of the outcome.

Add it all up and the picture is troubling: If the election is close — and all indications are that it will be — we seem to be set up for a genuine legitimacy crisis if Trump were to lose. It’s yet another indication of US democracy’s perilous state and how Trump has bent American politics to his will.

Vance pushes racist lies, Trump just makes stuff up. Are they even trying to win?

Let’s start with JD.

Sen. Vance, you have been absolutely knocking it out of the park with the crazy stuff you’ve been saying about Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio. Super smart, totally fake and mega-hateful nonsense. We love it.

Not only have you disrupted life in a small Midwestern city and caused a bunch of legal, hardworking immigrants to live in fear, you even got The Wall Street Journal to write an entire piece showing every claim you’ve made has been fabricated. You know our slogan: If the news media and readily available information say we’re lying, we’re winning!

Let’s have a big round of applause for JD, because even in the face of withering criticism and facts, he has pushed forward with this inhumane, ginned-up story, likely helping us lock down the votes of men age 40 and over who no longer get invited to family Thanksgiving dinners.

On Wednesday, when presented with the so-called fact that the Haitian immigrants in Springfield are in the country legally, JD told both reality and basic human decency to shove it and said: “I’m still gonna call them an illegal alien.”

BOOM! Any avowed racists out there who were undecided just moved right into the Trump/Vance column, baby. This is right in line with our primary campaign motto: Facts are stupid, you whiny losers!

Anyhoo, let’s get to the big man, President Trump, who has been out there winning over absolutely zero new voters.

Wednesday night on Fox News, President Trump talked about his debate with Kamala Harris and complained that the moderators were correcting him too much, saying “the audience was absolutely, they went crazy.”

That was genius. Since there was no live audience at the debate, his new comment leaves voters wondering if President Trump is now seeing things or suffering from short-term memory loss. Perfect. It's a real alpha move.

You missed the point that Trumptards and many other Americans can't control their spending when given borrowed money. This is one of many reasons their lives are hard. (Other reasons are uncontrolled eating causing obesity and early death. Uncontrolled alcohol consumption causing liver damage and early death. Uncontrolled smoking causing cancer and early death. Uncontrolled stupidity causing unemployment and early death. Uncontrolled sex causing divorce and early death. etc.) Electing Trump won't fix those personality defects that run rampant through American life, especially the lives of Trumptards.

Why are those numbers important to you? Trump had numbers. Why were his numbers important? (Trick question.) A judge ordered the former president to fork over $355 million of his fortune, plus interest, finding he lied for years about his wealth on financial statements he used to secure loans and make deals.

Trumptards don't see why Trump shouldn't be President. But that is not surprising since Trumptards don't see why their bad behavior causes their troubles.

In Trump's legal case “The frauds found here leap off the page and shock the conscience,” the ruling found but didn't shock Trumptard consciences because theirs don't work.

I've got an 825 credit score with TransUnion and an 828 credit score with Equifax with over 100k credit available to me and zero balance on any of the cards, and I haven't worked since 2019.

Why are those numbers important to you?

Because they're just one part of my life of Freedom where I get to do whatever the fuck I want, whenever I want, without the need of ever having to answer to anybody.

Hmmmmmmmmm....

Sounds like your fictional Trumptard is strip-mining you.

Make sure you're not standing in front of any fictional open furnaces when you're alone with this fictional person.

You know full well that I've had consequences from my actions. You take every opportunity you can to remind me of what I already know every time you are losing an argument.

We all have consequences for our actions. Every single one of us.

You missed my point...

When was the last time you were able to wake up one morning and realize that you had zero debts and zero obligations to anyone, even just for that one single day?

Now imagine living 5 years of that straight with only unexpected external situations like people you care about getting sick or needing help with one thing or another getting in the way of that from time to time.

Imagine not having to set your alarm more than 3 or 4 times per year.

Imagine getting anywhere or getting around to doing something whatever time you feel like doing it because there is absolutely nothing preventing you from doing everything on your own time table.

I think a lot of seniors have probably felt that after retiring well. Great for them. But they do it in the twilight of their life.

I've been living this way on and off since my early 30s because I'm better with money than almost anybody on the planet.

I may never have figured out any of the ways to make the money quickly or efficiently, but that hardly matters since I'm better than everyone else at how to use what's left of my meager implied income coming my way for the rest of my life. I learn best when I'm teaching myself something I'm interested and/or something I need to learn... Like all the stuff I know about cars today because I managed to keep a shitbox running for the better part of 20 years. I never bothered learning how to make a ton of money because I've never needed it. I don't have a lot, but I've got more than enough.

Enjoy your weekend buddy.

House Republicans are typically hesitant to defy Donald Trump. But on the latest federal spending standoff, GOP lawmakers are telling their presidential nominee that his approach won’t work — and rebuffing his demands to shut down the government if they don’t get a partisan immigration bill.

Trump wanted to use the issue as a cudgel in the final throes of his presidential campaign as he calls the security of elections into question — an echo of his false claims that Democrats stole the 2020 election. But Speaker Mike Johnson and leading appropriators have made it clear they aren’t willing to risk their House majority on a shutdown that would kick in just weeks before Election day.
