I thought I would start a thread where we do not respond to each other, rather post questions that we can mull over. If something rubs you or you think deserves it's own thread start it elsewhere. I think this could be fun. Add a question.

I find it strange that amongst western civilized countries we have the most domestic violence(murders, assaults, etc.) Yet, we rarely have civil unrest and riots on any large scale that other countries SEEM to have frequently. Is it because we have the freedom to be so diverse socially, religiously, and politically?

I wonder why we have some of the best, most advanced medical care in the world, and brag about this fact when most people can't afford health insurance. Why brag about something that is supposed to be for the good of all, but people can't afford to use?

I wonder why MANY, but certainly not most people can't afford health insurance, including many people in the middle class, and why many, but certainly NOT MOST, Doctors (and hospitals, nursing agencies, the folk with the sleepy gas, the 'wound care specialists', etc) can't afford malpractice insurance? Seems to me that all folk on both sides of the issue have a common problem...insurance.

Why doesn’t my cat dissolve? It pukes up hair balls the size of my fist; it craps a dozen times a day and sheds hair continuously, yet never seems to lose mass. Why haven’t I come home from work to discover a trail of cat along the floor that leads nowhere?

Why are there people out there who think that the poor are lazy and deserving of their status? Why are there people in the world devoid of compassion? I know that there's a cycle of violence and abuse - but, where did it start? Is there a way to prevent this cycle from continuing? Is it feasible? Will people stop being self-centered long enough to actually implement a solution?

Think about it. What's the point in having bad taste if you don't inflict it on as many people as possible.

TAXES

The next time you hear a politician use the

word "billion" in a casual manner, think about

whether you want the "politicians" spending

YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,

but one advertising agency did a good job of

putting that figure into some perspective in

one of its releases.

A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

C. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and
20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain, let's take a
look at New Orleans . It's amazing what you can learn with some simple
division.

Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu, is presently asking the Congress
for $250 BILLION to rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number, what
does it mean?

A. Well, if you are one of 484,674 residents of New Orleans

(every man, woman, child), you each get $516,528.

(I checked this longhand, and it is true)

B. Or, if you have one of the 188,251 homes in
New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.

C. Or, if you are a family of four, your family
gets $2,066,012.

Washington , D.C .. HELLO!!! ... Are all your calculators broken??

This is too true to be very funny!

Tax his land,
Tax his wage,
Tax his bed in which he lays.

Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes is the rule.
Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.

Tax his ties,
Tax his shirts,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.

Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he tries to think.

Tax his booze,
Tax his beers,
If he cries,
Tax his! tears.
Tax his bills,
Tax his gas,
Tax his notes,
Tax his cash

Tax him good and let him know
That after taxes, he has no dough.

If he hollers,
Tax him more,
Tax him until he's good and sore.

Tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in which he lays.
Put these words upon his tomb,
"Taxes drove me to my doom!"

And when he's gone,
We won't relax,
We'll still be after the inheritance TAX!!

Why is this true?

ANTIMASON

im not sure if this is more a why or how.. but someone asked why extraterrestrials havent just made contact... or something to that effect; well i have another question: what are the odds that these extraterrestrials would be humanoid? i ask because it seems strange to me that in all the unpredictable vastness of space, and all the variables.. that another species would find us and yet share our physical stature. what does that imply? that the universe has universal laws? if so.. what created these constants..and what enforces them?

we on earth are fortunate to have been strategically(or randomly) placed just right so that life could advance to our current technilogical state... so what are the odds that another humanoid species, on another planet equally sustainable, would then venture into space and discover us?

i just think thats an odd obvservation.. as most UFO extraterrestrial sightings envolve humanoid, bi-pedal creatures.

maybe the "gods" of antiquety are indeed these same ET visitors; that these visitors are not 'alien', but were actually present from our beginnings? if anything this premise is supported by the abrahamic, aswell as the countless polytheistic faiths of history
