This thread seems vaguely James Bond-y for some reason...

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

7/07/07 marks what would have been science fiction's first Grand Master Robert A. Heinlein's 100th birthday.

Happy birthday to Bob. Although not realy counted in the "lucky" stakes since he's dead...

Or is he?

So you've bought in to the conspiracy that he's dead.

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

Not exactly along those lines, but speaking of lucky days (not) - 07/07/07 was the day I bunged my knee and ended up going directly from the plane to the ER.

The 7/7/07 was a day lots of people chose to get married. Maybe they thought it would make them lucky.

It was also a lucky day for Chinese. I think it has to do with the number 7.

Only the Irish are lucky as they have Leprechauns. Leprechauns only come out of the forest on St Patrick's day.

I just thought it was interesting that after travelling thousands of miles my knee would pop on 07/07/07. It was definitely NOT a lucky day for me.

SignyM had a long quote (somewhere) about the Sumerians and their fascination with 7. It's from them (if I remember correctly) that we get our 7 day week. (Other cultures had 10 day weeks - 10 fingers, 10 days - but 7 days became the norm due to historical quirks.)

Hi Soup,

Thanks. I did get to enjoy a nice vacation. The weather was awesome. I don't want to describe it in detail - I heard So Cal was the pits. I did a lot of hiking - saw a lot of wildlife and birds I hadn't seen before - and the rest of the time I was reading and sleeping. My knee went out as I was getting on the plane back. From the ER I got crutches, an ace bandage and lots of good drugs. Though I think I annoyed the pharmacist when I was talking on the phone with the person who was coming to pick me up - I said I was waiting to get drugs from my local drug dealer. Anyway, all's well that ends well.

I have to say though, despite the trip back, I will probably not have another such perfect vacation any time soon. It was awesome !!

Sounds like a great trip!

You didn't miss much, weather wise: my family in Southern California was wilting. We haven't been hit that bad up here in San Jose. Got up above ninety a couple of times but we've mostly been in the mid-eighties, which is par for the course right about now. Hopefully we won't go through what we did last summer where we got above a hundred for what seemed like well over a week.
